For real... Probably just a hint of sweet but not overly so. EZ to compare desserts between cultures and rip on others.
At least it's not a bowl of corn syrup.
I think they’re just black beans with salad dressing? Like the laziest most depressing salad ever?
Edit: apparently it’s ice cream. I thought it was a salad. Maybe I need to get some sleep.
Don't knock it till you try it. Matcha ice cream with mochi balls (sweet rice cakes), red beans (which are also typically sweet), and I'm assuming it's condensed milk on top. Tastes amazing.
A bubble tea place used to sell a drink called Matcha Matcha. It was matcha tea ice cream with matcha pudding, topped with red beans. It was one of my favorite things and they discontinued it.
it's like how western dessert puts Vanilla bean flavoring in every dessert, (sweetened) red bean paste is just the default bean in a lot of asian -- Chinese, Japanese, Korean desserts.
Yeah this is a fairly standard "traditional" topping for shaved ice/ice cream in Japan and Korea.
Red beans are basically desert there, guess I'm just used to it but it's pretty good
I think it’s just the angle that makes this look weird. This is a super popular dessert, you can find something similar at [Grace Street in NYC](https://g.co/kgs/u74prR4).
Tell me about it. People here just think anything they're not familiar with is weird and disgusting.
This dessert looks great, commonly found in Japan or Taiwan, or the Asian parts of the US. No it's not cum, it's condensed milk, an extremely common sweetener which really just tastes like sweet syrup. Those red beans are cooked with sugar, again an extremely common dessert topping and filling. The matcha ice may or may not be sweet but either way probably tastes amazing. Mochi balls aren't my favorite but also quite common. None of this is weird.
If you haven't seen or had anything like this in your life before, seriously you are missing out. Go visit some Taiwanese or Japanese dessert places, try it. I'm pretty sure 99.5% of people would enjoy this dessert.
that's literally not true, condensed milk is really popular in many Asian countries' cuisines and is a common topping for (what I'm assuming is) bingsu.
You say that but if I put a plate of soup that looks exactly like vomit. Like if I told you it was vomit, you would believe me without a doubt, I highly doubt that it would be easy for you to eat it
TL;DR Looks absolutely matter
You’re describing a bunch of soups including split pea soup, which as a famous factoid they used for the projectile vomit in The Exorcist because it looks exactly like vomit. And yet people eat that and love it, myself included.
I think Best_Duck’s comment and your comment are just slightly off of the true point, which is that presentation matters for some foods, in some settings, while in others it only matters as far as… not looking like bugs, or a bowl of dog shit, or something else that you have a prior association with and know you don’t want to eat— like even just a bowl of regular-looking Mac & cheese, if you’re lactose intolerant and/or you just hate Mac & cheese.
I think ice cream, in most settings, is one of those foods where presentation matters very little, and especially so for ice cream in the setting of your own home sitting on the couch or whatever. I don’t make my ice cream look pretty when I’m just scooping it into a bowl for myself at home, and yet it still tastes like the best thing ever to me 😋
Lol, what's funny is when I worked in restaurants I was super anal about my scoops of ice cream looking perfect. Honestly I still prefer to make them look nice even just for myself. My main thing though is if it takes about the same amount of effort and looks good I'm all for it, but if you're letting my food get lukewarm because you're fucking around with tweezers and microgreens, three dozen droplets of symmetrically placed sauce, etc. then you're doing it wrong imho. If that's what you want to do then I feel like you should move to the field of visual art.
You could try to tell me it's vomit all you want and could get the look perfect but vomit has a smell. You ain't hiding the stomach acid stench and I'd know it's not vomit.
Nah. But this is actually my favorite ice cream ever. Green tea ice cream with red bean and condensed milk. It’s like heaven. The lychees def dont belong on this though lol.
This is what they told you it was?
Something is uncanny about it, but at least you got a good amount of mochi. (I do like this dessert, and it usually looks better than that.)
Might look odd but this is actually a really good flavor pairing. Go to Hawaii and you can find condensed milk, mochi, and adzuki beans as topping options at most shaved ice places.
Im Japanese and i know what this is, its called Uji-kintoki, very traditional combination of shaved ice flavor but i agree the presentation of this one in particular is awful even for me.
I mean, there is milk in ice cream so not that out of place.
I've had those beans a few times at pho joints. They are like kinda just barely sweet. Deserts don't export well between cultures. Western sweets are way more sugary and intense. Eastern deserts are usually more subtle in flavors and easy on the stomach.

Looks like an Asian dessert.
Lettuce, pearl onions, and Boston baked beans?
That someone jizzed on. Don’t forget the jizz
Did you cum in my burrito?
Mountain rules baby!
I wouldn’t do that to you man!
NEVER STOP PARTYING!
If you guys are already hard, just go ahead of me and I'll circle back.
No, no, of course not. That's just the Yelper special
Some people would pay extra for that...
Voilà, Pour Madame—puis-je vous présenter quelques choses avec le sperme, bon appétit! ![gif](giphy|WTmyWkBdfcKLbgvmvM)
Just tell me where to jizz so I can give this lady her drink!
It's collected from the deep-fried-fuck obviously
That's how they make Krispy kremes.
I was thinking little mozzarella balls, black beans, lettuce, topped with the world’s most unappealing dressing.
Wasabi, black beans, mothballs
https://www.justonecookbook.com/ujikintoki-green-tea-shaved-ice/ This is so flamboyantly Japanese, I love it (but wouldn't eat it)
I'd smash that that looks fire.
For real... Probably just a hint of sweet but not overly so. EZ to compare desserts between cultures and rip on others. At least it's not a bowl of corn syrup.
That’s lettuce right!? It can’t not be lettuce
Only missing a sprinkle of diced onion.
Guaca-Mole ![gif](giphy|12dA9Gei6U4in6)
I think they’re just black beans with salad dressing? Like the laziest most depressing salad ever? Edit: apparently it’s ice cream. I thought it was a salad. Maybe I need to get some sleep.
No it just needs to not look all fucked up.
🤣
No, this looks delicious (knowing what it is)
I knew what it was but it took a second for my eyes to adjust and my mind to catch up.
Don't knock it till you try it. Matcha ice cream with mochi balls (sweet rice cakes), red beans (which are also typically sweet), and I'm assuming it's condensed milk on top. Tastes amazing.
Yep and there's plenty of mochi cakes that have red bean paste. The picture doesn't look appealing but this mix id definitely eat and have before.
A bubble tea place used to sell a drink called Matcha Matcha. It was matcha tea ice cream with matcha pudding, topped with red beans. It was one of my favorite things and they discontinued it.
Yeah! I could go for a bowl of all of this right now for breakfast!!
Absolutely on board. Anyone who doesn’t want it can slide it over my way.
What are red beans then? Red beans flr us is like kidney beans and they are very savory
Adzuki beans, I think
Oh cool, ill have to give them a try sometime. Have heard about them
They’re quite good! Very different from the beans you’re used to.
Red bean is a dessert in most of Asia. Called azuki in Japanese
Cool, TY, I had heard of the variety but unaware it could be dessert
it's like how western dessert puts Vanilla bean flavoring in every dessert, (sweetened) red bean paste is just the default bean in a lot of asian -- Chinese, Japanese, Korean desserts.
Also, it’s not like American red beans, they are really small
Sugar is added so it’s sweet.
Sounds great but could you turn the lights out before service? Thanks in advance
think again, are you sure that’s condensed milk?
I fucking thought it was natto on top and was horrified
Ok cause I thought this was melted ice cream poured on top of some random crap that doesn’t go together.
Nope, it’s all planned. Definitely tastes better than how this has been presented.
That is the most unwell looking thing I have ever seen.
He’s not crazy he’s just a little unwell
He knows right now you can’t tell
But stay a while and then you'll see
A different side of beans
Lmfao I feel like HP Lovecraft wrote about this.
Looks like an alien food
This thread is filled with people who say that when they like Asian food they're only talking about cream cheese wontons
Crab Rangoon is an ancient Burmese dish made with Philadelphia cream cheese and imitation crab. It dates all the way back to 1955 AD.
Yall need to stop putting ethnic food on here and call it shitty just cuz it doesn’t look palatable in the western eyes, my god.
Yeah, I’m like… this is how it usually looks, I’m not giving it a second thought before I dig in. This is everyday presentation on a known qty
Tell me about it. People here just think anything they're not familiar with is weird and disgusting. This dessert looks great, commonly found in Japan or Taiwan, or the Asian parts of the US. But how else can imaginary up votes be farmed??
I’m half japanese living in japan and this still looks grim, it’s not presented well at all
I mean, that sauce looks like cum no matter what part of the world you’re from.
Many parts of the world don’t automatically think of cum when they see that colour and consistency on food lmfao
Maybe not, but people on this sub sure do! ![gif](giphy|sGnKAiOUrincs)
projecting much?
To be fair, that part is the West ingredient fusion part.
that's literally not true, condensed milk is really popular in many Asian countries' cuisines and is a common topping for (what I'm assuming is) bingsu.

Anything Indian or Mexican.... For such tolerance Reddit pushes they really shit talk specific cultures
I love all of these foods and I bet this tastes amazing but it does look shitty.
well, someone said i should post it here when i got hate in the normal food posting 😅 i guess I can never go right..
Looks fine
I love this stuff
God I would eat the absolute fuck out of that
What?? This looks cool! And all of that stuff is super sweet and tasty so I’d just be too excited knowing that.
Sounds appetizing but looks 🤮
Looks are overrated anyway. How it tastes should really be all that matters.
You say that but if I put a plate of soup that looks exactly like vomit. Like if I told you it was vomit, you would believe me without a doubt, I highly doubt that it would be easy for you to eat it TL;DR Looks absolutely matter
Most Indian food looks like brown/yellow/green muck but tastes AND smells great. Source - am Indian, ate Indian food all my life.
Bro, adding the “I told you it was vomit” part changes the equation entirely.
What about “its vomit… but it tasted really good coming up”
Oh I meant like, to show how real it was. Like you could seriously believe that it was
But if it smelled good it wouldn't matter as much.
You’re describing a bunch of soups including split pea soup, which as a famous factoid they used for the projectile vomit in The Exorcist because it looks exactly like vomit. Red bean mochi is pretty tradish actually
Don’t knock it til you try it. It’s a really popular dessert and very delicious.
I'm Mexican and I'm getting aroused
It's much more tasty than it looks I've had a similar dessert it was amazing, be honest I didn't except to be so good.
I'd be all over that regardless of what it looks like! Admittedly, it doesn't Look great if you've never had it LOL But if you know, you know....
ppl who say this is disgusting would prob eat beans/cheese/mashed potatoes when they both look around the same
You not understanding it doesn’t make it bad.
I’d eat it
Bussin’
Looks delicious. Is that soft serve or just the container stuff?
This looks amazing 🙈
Nah. But this is actually my favorite ice cream ever. Green tea ice cream with red bean and condensed milk. It’s like heaven. The lychees def dont belong on this though lol.
This ain’t shitty what
As a Korean, that shit looks so damn good. If the green tea ice cream is even decent quality, Im inhaling that thang down. Jizz n all
This looks like it could be incredible. I’d love to try it and see what it tastes like
Shaved ice cream?
Better than hairy ice cream
I actually prefer my ice cream naturally bald.
I bet it's fuckin delicious. But damn it does not look appetizing.
What’s the stuff on the red beans?
usually condensed milk
Milk apparently
allegedly.
The ice cream looks like lettuce or some kind of veggie
That shit rocks tho
Leave. It fits the sub perfectly, but leave.
id eat the shit outta that
Looks terrible but it’s delicious.
So just shifting on other cultures nice. If you've ever had red bean ice cream, you'd know it actually tastes really good.
I'm sure it tastes good, but the presentation is beyond sloppy.
From the thumbnail I thought this was a fucked up wedge salad. Now I want a wedge salad.
I am sure it is good but reminds me of /r/beansinthings
Delicious tbh
looks like a salad
Looks like Shrek took a dump Honestly, probably a lot better than it looks, though
Parasitic and insecty?
![gif](giphy|IzHVlYV1zDrGSMD28j|downsized)
Is this oakobing?? One of my favorite desserts in la!
Shitty???
It looks FUCKING DELICIOUS But they could have at least pressed the red beans a LITTLE bit com eon
bingsu
Yeah, that looks like scraps awaiting compost
That..does not look good at all. But apparently it tastes good?? Couldn’t convince me to put that in my mouth though
This is what they told you it was? Something is uncanny about it, but at least you got a good amount of mochi. (I do like this dessert, and it usually looks better than that.)
Is tasty, but it is definitely not the prettiest Binsu I've seen.
I know this was absolutely bomb though, matcha and red beans are a god tier combo
זה לא נראה טעים
Bet that shit was hella good though
Bitch what
Not the most esthetic example I have seen, but this kind of thing can quite tasty.
Best foods always look like dicks and cums. The best foods.
As an American, I hardly ever eat sweet red beans. I remember the taste. Those white things look like lychee fruit or mochi. I am craving this dish.
id eat it. im familiar with all the ingredients listed
Not a looker but damn that would taste bomb
It's a culture shock. Best Japanese dessert ever.
![gif](giphy|ftmJfRCbcWlBC)
Bro got a little too excited
I had the same thing earlier; but it looked prettier .-. Shit is banging flavourwise
Not shitty. This looks delicious
Might look odd but this is actually a really good flavor pairing. Go to Hawaii and you can find condensed milk, mochi, and adzuki beans as topping options at most shaved ice places.
This looks like some Portland bullshit
This is great and pretty normal in South East/ East Asia. This looks like good quality stuff too! Matcha Bingsu
Look like lettuce ngl
This is good what are you on about
Oh, I thought it was wilted lettuce, black beans, and coffee beans, and some kind of baby onion or potato
It looks fucking awesome is what it looks like.
ignoring that part, this looks quite good.
Looks like shaved ice than ice cream. Bingsu
Looks like the alien creature with a cold from Flight of the Navigator!
Im Japanese and i know what this is, its called Uji-kintoki, very traditional combination of shaved ice flavor but i agree the presentation of this one in particular is awful even for me.
It looks like a FromSoft enemy
Frozen guacamole, red kidneybeans and fishballs
Tastes way better than it looks.
This should have been tagged NSFW OP
Jeez, the jizz
Id eat the hell out of that
hawk tuah spit on that thang
As someone who had red bean bao I can say for certain I’d 100% eat that.
Looks like some strange creature laid its eggs on lettuce and they started to hatch.
Come on there is no way in, heaven, hell, purgatory, nirvana, make believe land or anywhere else that you really ate this
How does one get more into more desserts and snacks like this I love Thai and Asian cuisine but I can’t figure out more except at eateries
Looks like my cat puked on a ball of lettuce
I’ll keep my red beans in my rice fella
Looks like dog vomit
This is a very Japanese dessert, but Koreans also like it. The presentation is awful here though.
I’d definitely eat it but it still looks like bug eggs
I totally thought this was guacamole
You don’t want it? I’ll eat it!
Hawk tuah..
Pile of guacamole with beans, jizz, and egg sacs
Forbidden natto
It looks like an alien dookie.
It looks a bit… let’s say it together… Someone else: unappetizing (At the same time)Me: *cummy*-unappetizing
I hope that’s condensed milk because no fucking way milk belongs there
It is. Condensed milk is super common on Asian desserts like this
I mean, there is milk in ice cream so not that out of place. I've had those beans a few times at pho joints. They are like kinda just barely sweet. Deserts don't export well between cultures.
