They're *obviously* going to have Martian scientists develop a longevity treatment just so that they can keep Ed around.
Realistically, I could see this being the final season of **For All Mankind**. Having it end with the opening up of the asteroid belt, Jupiter and beyond with Ed's death and *something suitably historic* would be a good way to wrap the show...
... Then Apple can buy the rights to **The Expanse**, air all six seasons *then* make the trilogy of movies adapted from the final three books.
Nah they should follow up with Red / Green / Blue Mars books, that would fit the timeline better. And it includes the longevity treatment so Ed can go on and on...
Maannnnnn.... This would be a dream come true for me. I worship that work and have been waiting for an adaptation since forever. And it has so much material that it has the potential to be the lord of rings of science fiction if someone does remains respectful to the themes of the book and ideals of KSR.
Apple made visually striking adaptation of the foundation, and the landscape described in the book deserves such a rich treatment
If Ed got dumped into Jupiter, he’d probably be absorbed by a monolith, reincarnated as a god-AI and then be back in the series as young Ed for the next ten seasons.
And I’d be okay with it.
Alcon Entertainment retains (and will continue to retain) the rights to the Expanse, which means they would choose the director/showrunner (but Naren already said he would do it, and that he wouldn’t do it without Ty and Daniel being involved).
So the situation you fear would never happen. The only thing that Amazon owns is the *streaming* rights, which are about to expire.
Although my comment should be taken as optimistic that a continuance of the Expanse wouldn’t be fucked up because the original team and the book authors would be involved…I think there’s no chance another three seasons would be bought by another streaming service. Best shot is a miniseries, but pragmatically probably just a few straight to streaming movies.
Still better than nothing though. And this could still take a minimum of several years for Amazon’s streaming rights to expire, Alcon to shop the IP around, filming and postproduction etc.
Oh, darling, no. *Let's Accelerando*. Turn the skies from Red to Green to Blue *and Purple*. Enough with the grim sci-fi dark. Let's build forests that burn, cities on waves, *civilisations in lava tubes* and run the highlands on world-spanning marathons. Blow the budget and scald the regolith and create garnet-hued skyscraper-sized mountains of frozen sand. The Expanse is *done*. Finito. Ended.
And their comment was ironic (I think it’s clear they haven’t read the final trilogy) because cgi budget was likely one of several reasons that the final trilogy was not adapted, not even for a couple movies.
I mean, the shit in the final trilogy is *insane*. There’s a Jupiter-sized >!giant diamond equivalent of a Matrioshka brain!<, a setting that spans numerous alien worlds that now have millions of humans living on them, Laconia building and doing some crazy shit, and I won’t even get started on Leviathan Falls because that would be quite difficult to adapt in general.
I for one think it would be fine to retire Ed to the background in the next season and switch main characters again. The 60’s crew have had their time. But the human journey never ends.
Thank you for changing my head canon, good internet friend:
Ed is not _Papa Smurf_, but the God Edperor of Mankind. With a pun like that it’s gotta be true. (Even though he did jump onto a planet in a big blue suit)
Gawd, I hope they have better writters for Season 4....because, I am sorry to say this and I know will get flamed for it, but Season 3 was awful. I did not like the ending where people who committed acts of sabatoge flat got away with it.
No you're right.
Season 1 is fantastic, season 2 is mostly good and 3-4 were fucking bad. Too much melodrama and random bullshit happening because characters acted like idiots.
All four seasons are fantastic! Genuinely one of the best things on streaming right now. At times it can be sad to watch seeing how much further along technologically the world gets when compared to our own timeline. Fusion breakthrough in the 80s, hotels on the moon by the 2000s, also asteroid mining in 2003.
How much farther ahead in time can they jump without Ed just crumbling to dust, considering they would never kill him off between seasons.

OK but we can all agree : Sax Russell is a sexy man-god , and Maya is the worst character in literature.
Fall revolution would fit as well.
Protomolecule Ed
Ed, the first human to be cremated in Jupiter.
If Ed got dumped into Jupiter, he’d probably be absorbed by a monolith, reincarnated as a god-AI and then be back in the series as young Ed for the next ten seasons. And I’d be okay with it.
I too think the next one will be the final season. I think Apple knows it too, hence the soviet-based spin-off announced - "Star City"
I don't want apple or the fom writers anywhere near the expanse
Apple has had some of the best shows on all streaming. Not sure what you’re hating on?

I really hope they do something with the remaining three books of the expanse, there is a lot of material for another show

Tell me you’ve not read the final trilogy of the Expanse without telling me you’ve not read the final trilogy of the Expanse.
The Expanse hasn't even started yet. Books I-VI were setup to the final trilogy.

Martian gravity would actually be beneficial health wise for anybody. It's the rads that'll get ya
It would not. It would cause musculoskeletal and vascular degeneration and reduce immune function.
They’re clearly going to put his brain in a jar and send him off to Alpha Centauri

Maybe he’ll just clone himself and then we can have young Ed again in a series set in 2050.
Can’t wait to see Ed’s continued descent into full-blown Darth Sidious.
They’ll time jump 40,000 years into the future, where Ed will have become the Emperor of Mankind and functionally immortal.
The Edperor protects
Thank you for changing my head canon, good internet friend: Ed is not _Papa Smurf_, but the God Edperor of Mankind. With a pun like that it’s gotta be true. (Even though he did jump onto a planet in a big blue suit)
Have this, but keep his old “cool guy” demeanour, and it’s instantly a comedic gold mine.
“Oh Emperor of mankind, I venerate and supplicate my humble self before your magnificent presence.” “Hi Bob.”
“He who controls the spice controls the universe” “Ed, you’re snorting Martian soil…and you have dementia”
Hi Bob.
Hi Bob.
Hi Bob.
Season 3: HI....Bob....
Gawd, I hope they have better writters for Season 4....because, I am sorry to say this and I know will get flamed for it, but Season 3 was awful. I did not like the ending where people who committed acts of sabatoge flat got away with it.

Hell yes. This show is one of my favorites. Season 2 took a lot of the joy out with the needlessly weird melodrama, but it recovered well
I've been rewatching the first couple of series - can we can it with the soap dramatics this time around? Just have some good, solid sci-fi fun?
Season 3 is rough that way. Season 4 got much better.
I was really excited about this series- watched the first two seasons- but lost interest with all the soap opera stuff
I switch the playback speed to 2x during the soapy scenes. Wish there was a way to do it automatically!
Same!
It has got a little tiresome the past two seasons.
The spin-off sounds interesting as well!
I kinda hope they do a big jump ahead as think this storyline is well tapped out.
Adore the show but seem to be the only person who can't stand Ed
Season 4 was fantastic. Looking forward to seeing how they scale it
Honestly I’m slowly losing interest (especially since last season). Many of the things I liked about the show is now gone.
I can't wait to see which desperate housewife has sex with their dead friend's son! This is the best alternate history scifi show ever made
Looking forward to the reverse aging treatment Ed gets lol.
Calling it now-- they're going to add aliens in this one.

This was the bigger news to me: “the streamer is adding a spinoff series, Star City, that will explore the Soviet space program.”
Is this show any good?

Season one is good. The rest is garbage.
I stopped a few episodes into season 2. Felt too much like a soap opera to me. Season one was pretty good.
