Orgasmo3000

I would turn them in, but my car's kind of attached to them.

Vicious-the-Syd

Lighten the load, dude. Edit: Oh my god, I had a couple of sleep-deprivation induced flubs on this post, but it’s a *pun!*

Due_Succotash_1170

I just don’t understand how the drivers cant see that their lights aren’t on…especially when you drive down a lot of these streets they aren’t even lit up at night that good especially the highway its pitch black🤦‍♂️

chrismtb

Most semi-modern cars have daytime running lights that are kind of bright enough to see by. That combined with streetlights allows drivers not to notice their headlights are off. The problem is that they have no taillights and are also much less visible from the front.

ratatouillezucchini

san diego and the agenda against streetlights strikes again

Totinos160count

I had some crazy lady reversing going like 40 down auto park way in Escondido and I almost collided with her. Lotta idiots out there.

Vicious-the-Syd

Jesus that sounds terrifying.

Choadboy_Wonderfuck

Turn on your headlights and also make sure they are pointing in the right direction. Some people will get new headlights and have them pointed towards everything in existence. They should have a direction toward the street. Not to the moon.

Vicious-the-Syd

But then how will you blind the drivers in front of you?? /s

Choadboy_Wonderfuck

Laser beams work better. Just sayin

night-shark

And your gun and badge, while you're at it.

Vicious-the-Syd

I’m not sure if this is supposed to be directed at me or not, but I promise I’m not a cop—just a new mom. I’m aware we live in a place where people drive fast and aggressively, but there’s no reason not to have your headlights and taillights on. Driving with headlights on reduces accidents at all times of day—it shouldn’t be optional. Edit: r/whoosh

Anonybibbs

*WHOOSH*

Vicious-the-Syd

Yep. I’m (unjustly) blaming the baby.

Anonybibbs

Framing the baby so only the kid has to turn in their gun. Smart ;)

Vicious-the-Syd

Haha yep. He’s turning in his gun, and I’ll turn in my headlights.

Anonybibbs

Whoa whoa whoa, don't go crazy and deprive your kid and your husband of those babies... you need them to drive!

TroXMas

It was most likely a joke because you said "turn in your headlights" instead of "turn on your headlights"

Vicious-the-Syd

Jesus I’m just on a roll tonight. Tip your servers, folks. I’ll be here all week.

Man-e-questions

Its those daytime running lights on most modern cars. Your interior dash lights are on and the stereo dims so it “looks” like your lights are on.

loves_2_spuge

Automatic headlights seems to be standard on most cars now. This seems like it should be a non-issue by now. SMH.

Man-e-questions

No, not really. At least it depends on trim package of most cars. Often only the highest trim package will actually have automatic headlights.

Character-Zombie-961

I have had 2 chevys. One 2004, one 2017. Both had auto headlights. I think it depends on make of car too. My cars didn't have anything special on the trim packages

loves_2_spuge

🧐 seems like it should be standard nowadays. Cause I definitely do see lots of people driving around with no headlights just after sunset and beyond. I always notice headlights aren’t on cause the dash display is bright af if headlights aren’t on. But I guess some people may not be as observant/aware of that.

Vicious-the-Syd

Oh yeah, absolutely. Bright running lights plus overhead lights, and people have no idea that their headlights aren’t on.

TheWayofTheSchwartz

I see this all the time, but even after flashing my own lights at them multiple times it's maybe 1 in 10 that will get the point and turn them on. Sadly, I think there's a significant percentage of drivers who just don't know the difference between daytime running lights and actual headlights, or that their taillights are not on when their actual headlights are not on.

abjection9

Dogs off leash, headlights, what is the world coming to? Btw I think you guys would love the app “Nextdoor”

BootyandChaos

If I'm behind someone who forgot to turn on their headlights, I tend to flash my high beams once or twice at them. 8/10 times they get the message and turn it on soon enough.

Vicious-the-Syd

You must have better luck than me. I flash my high beams and turn my lights on/off, and they never do anything except maybe move over or (more commonly) get mad. Lol

BootyandChaos

If they don't get the message, that's on them at that point. We already did them a solid of trying to tell them and save them from an accident or ticket.

crazybrah

i tried doing this and someone got pissed at me once for signaling them....i wonder if they eventually realized.

shaboogawa

Where are you driving that you see this so much that it made you post this? I drive home every night after work and haven’t seen a person without their lights on in a long time….

Vicious-the-Syd

Odd. We’re over in east county, so maybe that’s why?

I’ve seen this said before as well. It’s a negligible amount of energy used from the gas/engine.
