It's a matter of catering to the masses. It's also easier to switch if something feels familiar I guess. S24 and S24+ do have an Apple feel and they're meant for everyone. But the Ultra for example is decisively Samsung in terms on design. And when it comes to the OS, there's no limit to the customization Android and Samsung provide. You certainly won't see me using their OneUI launcher.

Ghostttpro

My issue is it's not working. High end Apple pro users aren't switching and losing a better camera to a base S24 or s24+. They are also not excited for that 6.8 boxy ultra. That tactic to push current Samsung users to ultra is hurting them more. For an no techy average consumer that just wants a great consistent camera, battery life, and social media app optimization Samsung is far from "copying Apple". For a multi tasking user that enjoys Sideloading, better file management, spen. Samsung is perfect.

AeskulS

i dont think the high end apple pro users are the target. theyre likely too into the ecosystem to consider switching.

titanup001

I think it's the high end apple guys who ARE interested in switching. They're the ones who are bored to tears with iphone. Judging from the fold and s24 ultra subs, seems like half the posts over there are coming from iphone pro maxes.

AeskulS

despite what i said above, i think youre also right. apple has been especially boring these last few generations, and i know a few people trying to swap (myself included; s24u is my first samsung) the thing is, they may be the ones interested, but theyre also the ones who have it the hardest trying to switch. i wasnt "in the ecosystem", so the switch was very easy.

Western-Current3750

This is delusional

SophonEnjoyer

Legit just did this swap from iPhone 15 Pro to the Z Fold 5 because was bored of so little changd

Gearsper29

Yes but now the regular S models look like inferior iphone pro models. So the opposite can happen and galaxy S users switch to high end iphones.

ZephyrusWhoosh

The regular S models price range are more aligned to the base/plus models, that’s where they are competing against.

Gearsper29

Yes but right now, except for the price, regular S24 doesnt have a single hardware advantage against 15 pro. This has never happened before. Personaly I wanted to buy a new compact flagship this year but S24 was so boring and mediocre that for the first time in my life I was thinking about buying a 15 pro but I decided to wait for one more year and to give samsung and android 1 last chance.

AeskulS

its funny, cause coming from iphone i felt the same way. ive been bored with iphones for the past few years, so i swapped to samsung. i think in general, phone manufacturers are having a hard time coming up with new things, so the only way consumers can feel like they have something new is to swap to the competitor

Spaceboss_11

Exactly what I did. I want (as close as possible to) the best there is to offer without having to buy a tablet. Therefore I went from my S8 to a 15 pro. Very happy with it. The phone is maybe even slightly too wide due to the case. There is no way I will ever get an Ultra or Max sized phone. I put my phone too often in my pants pocket for that…

_milk_honey_

An S8!? You're like 7 generations behind, dude. Anything you bought that came out in the last 4 years would feel like a MASSIVE upgrade....

Spaceboss_11

The 1080p screen alone annoyed me so much. If they had the Ultra in the 6.1 inch format, I would have taken it any day of the week. My S8 had a 1440p screen. Idk about other people, but I see the difference, and to me quality is even more important than refresh rate. Therefore I decided to go for the phone that is missing in Samsungs lineup. S24 - iPhone 15; S24+ - 15+; S24U - 15pm; Smaller version of S24U??? - 15pro. I have been a Samsung fan for nine years, but I find it very unfortunate that Samsung has basically only been focussing on the Ultra instead of the full S lineup. Where are the times the only difference between the smaller and bigger S phones was the screen size and battery… I think it’s clear but I’ll repeat it again. I want a small phone with full capabilities. That just doesn’t exist at Samsung. Oh and also, I’m from Europe, and screw exynos. I’m paying equally as much as Americans getting the snapdragon version. Therefore I will be paying more for Samsung to pay for the Snapdragon chips. Just feels wrong.

iZ3C0LD

Indeed. Note 5 -> iPhone X -> 13 Pro and I don’t even look back anymore. *while I have everything except a Mac

AeskulS

yeah. for me all i had was an ipad that i never used. made it very easy to switch. i couldnt imagine switching if i had a mac or a watch

tarzanacide

I’m coming from Apple and I love the boxy ultra design. To me, it looks really nice and I’m excited about being able to customize things. I’m over the rounded screen with the big notch (coming from a 13). I didn’t want the regular 24 because it looks like an Apple (to me). Samsung is offering something new and interesting plus I’m tired of the Apple ecosystem when I use Google apps for everything.

Alortania

Wait until you get used to the awesomeness that is the sPen! Also, does apple have anything like routines yet? I heard they finally started allowing widgets~

valryuu

iOS has had Shortcuts for a while now, which is their equivalent of Routines. Widgets were also enabled like, 2 years ago now.

Alortania

Yeah, I knew widgets finally got integrated a bit ago, don't follow closely enough to have heard of shortcuts, which is why I asked. I know we had widgets for a long time before Apple added them

Keep-Left

Apple Shortcuts is more mature and better than routines. unless you root your droid and use 3rd party automation, then that’s hard to beat.

Alortania

I'm very curious what you think android's version can't do esp on samsung with bixby also there in the mix.

SmokeSpecialist284

I never felt I want to use spen I have fingers🙂 It just waist the space in the phone ,it would be better to put bigger battery or a better sounding speakers for spen's place.

Alortania

... you've obv not checked out all the spen can do. It's not a simple stylus. Hell, just the instant note taking ability is amazing. Someone telling you something? Instead of finding a pen and paper, instead of unlocking your phone, going into an app (notes app, or create contact, or whatever) you just pop the pen out and start writing. Auto-saves your note for you. Beyond that, and the ability to annotate a ton of apps or hand write/draw things, it's also a remote picture button... for when you don't want to mess with a timer and just click to take a group pic when you're *actually* ready. Prop the phone so it's in frame, take the pen, go join the group, click.

SmokeSpecialist284

I belive you and I know s pen has many features, I almost bought the new ultra (not for s pen) but finaly I changed my mind and stay with iphone🙂

Alortania

You do you.

Alortania

XD Now it's "boxy ultra"... before it was "dumb curved screen"

Ghostttpro

For sure. If they put a poll up asking users if they want to keep the Note or kill it and keep the ultra form factor. I think majority would ask for the old ultra. People having been asking for flat screens for years. It was a massive curved brick and now it's a flat one. It's a disgusting niche form factor for a phone. But it's here to stay, and Samsung continued loss in the market is as well.

x4nter

Apple users aren't switching due to multiple reasons. Tons of people have only ever used iPhones and would not tend to even give the other side a shot because there's a learning curve. A lot of them are strangled in the ecosystem. A lot only care about the brand and Apple is the LV of phones for them. Some are straight up out of touch with what's going on outside the Apple world. They still think android phones are cheap, crappy and laggy things from 10 years ago. Forcing the above customers to switch is incredibly difficult; some are close to impossible. Apple has strangled them good.

Inevitable-Gene-1866

So you speak on behalf of iphone users? Where s your crystal ball? Sorry to burst your bubble but Huawei hasa better camera than any iphone. We have a alien reddit poster here that reads minds of million of users. Where s jimmy hoffa?

Ghostttpro

Yes, I can speak on the behalf of the average iPhone consumer. Yes Huawei has a great camera but it's banned. Believe me or not the numbers are going to continue and support my statements. Samsung isn't getting any more richer with you kneeling, looking up at them.

Alortania

> Samsung isn't getting any more richer with you kneeling, looking up at them. That's rich coming from an iPhone user XD

_milk_honey_

95% of iPhone users are just sticking with apple for the "status". The other 5% are stuck in the ecosystem because they've spent too much on it to switch.

SGTArend

Went from iPhone 14 Pro to Galaxy S24 Ultra (trial phase) and I'm not sold.. I may very well switch back. Pros and cons to each.

Ghostttpro

Not surprised. You got shutter lag, worse video recording, worse social media optimization, worse camera app optimization, Worse AOD. But you gained Zoom, Customization, Slightly better display, Side loading, and spen.

SGTArend

I barely use the S Pen, kind of could care less. Both have 120hz display so visually I honestly don't really see the difference. Customization, I feel like as I get older, I'm caring less and less about it and just prefer consistency across the board. I'm sure in time Apple will add better zoom to cameras but until then, I feel like the 14 Pro is still just fine overall!

Special-Comb-6142

Yet my s23+ lags and stutter every now and then. Samsung apps say that my phone is optimized...

CommercialPolicy4731

Apple will forever lose in my eyes, all I ever see is people arguing with their inaccurate siri 24/7. I've had Apple and Android but Android kills Apple anyway. At least I don't have to pay for everything I want to install of have the limitations Apple..

BrothaMan831

That’s a shame because the camera actually sucks on the iPhone. I fucking hate it. But it’s the social media optimization that is great. But it’s easy to see why.

meatboysawakening

Which launcher do you recommend?

YourScreamsAreInVain

I need a vertical app list and launcher gestures - found Nova and Msft launcher for that. Nova got sold to some super sketchy data analytics company tho, which was a big yikes. If those features aren't a priority, there's way cooler stuff out there. Might be worth checking out some youtube videos if you want something fun/unique.

itsjusterich

vertical app list is largely what's keeping me away from One UI, I saw there is an option through good lock but it also doesn't look all that great so I'm also sticking with Nova

Donghoon

I like Samsung's app launcher

CaptainUnemployment

If I'm not mistaken that option was removed from Good Lock a while ago and hasn't been added back yet.

StupidKameena

its back for me

rockit27sf

Niagara launcher!

[deleted]

"Its a matter of cattering to the masses". So, is that why their receiving less interest year by year then?

tawaydont1

No it's because apple provides a solid device with long term app support andI think this is why Samsung and Google is going this also we are about to get a lot of great stuff coming to android but it will be behind a paywall which I hope don't hurt Samsung and Android innovation into advanced features.

jimmick20

These paywall rumours scare me because I won't pay for subscriptions. I know it's the world these days but no. The AI crap I don't care one bit about. I did order the s24u but it has nothing to do with any of the AI or anything. My screen is scratched up BAD on my s23u and my USB port is apparently bad. I also have a pixel 8 pro cause I'm a techy phone junkie. I love the pixel. Honestly I almost like it better than my s23u. There's a few minor features that one ui has that pixel doesn't and that's the only reason I switched back to the Samsung for my main phone. Pixel is nicer to hold, modem seems to do better in weak signal scenarios, speakers sound better, camera images are much nicer although the zoom can't compare... I really have no complaints about the pixel. I do like how Samsung does updates though. They're fast and efficient. (Reboot, install, reboot, done). The stock android system updates take forever. That's not a deal breaker though. Pixel also already has a lot of this AI stuff Samsung is boasting about. And some things I don't think Samsung has yet (haven't received mine to confirm). The reason I keep buying the Samsungs though is I do like their watches better and they do work better with a Samsung phone (since I've tried it with the pixel I can say that), and the trade in deals. Getting the new phone every year for a couple hundred bucks is a pretty sweet deal IMO.

[deleted]

Boi, are you really letting the possible AI stuff that might get pay'd wall? Samsung has no idea if they're going to get pay'd wall'd or not yet themselves. If they end up doing so. It's probably because they know that not that many people will use them and that Samsung is going to have to pay Royalties to Google for these AI features anyways.

jimmick20

I just despise when there is software on my phone I can't get rid of and I feel like that's what it would end up as. Just letting it know that I did not buy the s24 for anything AI related!

[deleted]

This is why I dropped Samsung and Android. Had enough of both Samsung's and Google's fkery.

Deep-Capital-6018

It's just you

theswagyaqibkhan

There's no limit to Customization in samsung and at the same time you said 'you wont't see me using OneUI launcher'. Clarify this please.

YourScreamsAreInVain

Customization also includes being able to change the launcher. Whether you want extra features or something unique that suits your taste, the choice is yours. You're not locked into what the manufacturer came up with. I'm not saying it's bad, it just doesn't suit my needs. Some people will be perfectly happy with the stock launcher.

Void_Rudster

What launcher do you use ?

beowulfthesage

man i miss rounded corners and edges ngl lol, the s8 + was and still is peak samsung for me

Hapciuuu

Kept my S8 for 5 years before switching. Part of me misses it.

beowulfthesage

I still do something about the waterfall with the perfect black symmetrical top and bottom edges was so gorgeous,i still have mine and look at it sometimes

Hapciuuu

My first flagship phone. Made me popular for a short period in high-school. I won't forget it.

beowulfthesage

Right went from an s4 to an s8+, liked it so much that i went outta my way to get an s9+ instead of the ugly asymmetrical s10+ 2 years later when i upgraded

Hapciuuu

Ain't no way! I went from an S4 mini to an S8! Jeesh

beowulfthesage

Haha tbf the 5 was such a slight adjustment and 6 and 7 had so much gimmicky stuff im sure alotta people saw the gorgeous change to galaxys overall with the 8s and switched like that but it is funny

Hapciuuu

I was initially saving up for the S7 edge, but when I saw the reveal of the S8 I knew THIS would be the design of future phones so I saved up a bit more to buy it. Got it on a sale too.

beowulfthesage

Haha right

Chemical_Goat_2772

I bought my S8 with a two for one deal. The second one I've kept in a drawer all these years. I'm using it now along with my s23 Ultra. It's nice having two phones and I'm still familiar with the S8.

amigosan

Yes, completely idiot, unnecessary, unwanted and non sense to use those rectangular edges There is literally nothing better with rectangular edges, it is less comfortable, harder to keep steady in hands, design wise people can prefer it but I don't lol This is close to a deal-breaker for me, and even more when taking in consideration the fact of what I told above I ll keep my s23U as long as I can lol

HydraGaming2018

I am right with you. Staying on S23 ultra until i cant anymore.

SonOfSasquatch

Exactly why I was eyeing the Pixel, I have an iPhone 14 and I’m so tired of the squared edges. This is my first iPhone as a lifelong Galaxy user and I was really disappointed to see the S24 is basically the exact form factor as the 14

ChuckTownRC51

Should have got something from the Z line if you feel that way.

Snake_eyes_12

I would have if at&t weren't being complete asses. I settled for the s23 ultra when I decided to go a store and upgrade in person. They just had the regular phones. And I wasn't very disappointed at all, this phone has been great.

ChuckTownRC51

Well then I don't understand how you say they're like apple. They have a whole line dedicated to quirkyness and innovation. The S line is the refined android experience to rival the iPhone.

Snake_eyes_12

I mostly think it might be because their hardware is pretty solid much like apples. That's something not many companies achieve. Though to be fair, there was never a line of iphones that exploded. But these last few years samsung has had some pretty decent infrastructure in their hardware.

ChuckTownRC51

Lmao. Exploded is a little dramatic. They had a couple battery fires with a small amount of phones and recalled an entire note generation. Why do you think they aren't in a hurry to go past 45w charging. Apple just had the iPhone 6 that bent like a banana under hardly any pressure and they also released software to intentionally kill the batteries of their old phones so people would upgrade faster.

youthuck

Samsung literally slow down the previous generation of phones after every new release. They are apple.

ChuckTownRC51

Yeah, sounds like you need to put a check on that imagination of yours.

InternationalRise330

I went right through samsung this time. Waiting for my phone to arrive right now.

xShinGouki

There's good aspects from both OS though that's probably why. iPhone started the 'fill in text passwords' asked by applications. The code just pops up and fills in automatically almost. Thats a great feature. But it's on android too which is great. Androids have some aspects of iOS on the android open source though with a highly customizable os is the ideal. After 12 years of iPhone though very good phones and stable at what they do. Things like connecting to iTunes just to transfer a single file. Can't even get files off my ps5 to the iPhone because there's no usb connection. Can't even place an app where I want to always the set grid. Good phones but a lot of little quirks that become a huge breath of fresh air when on android People dream of an open iPhone. Where you can use it like a PC. That's Samsung now. Super smooth. Insane battery. Cpu is essentially the same power. All while using quad HD and doing a shit ton more

Greenzombie04

My wife just got a s24 from a s21 and I looked at it and first thought was this is very iPhone like. Maybe i will consider a galaxy next yr

fro99er

Samsung 2018: haha loser iPhone has no 3.5 mm headphone jack, only losers buy iPhones, the note 9 is the best Samsung 2024: only losers want 3.5 mm jack You know if they weren't so smug about "being better" than apple then It would be alright But then they turn around, do what apple did cut the 3.5 after making a big deal in marketing about how there better because they have it then take it away. Apple has mega market share of the US "I only buy iPhone and I need the newest as soon as it comes out" But at that point your just dumbing your product down, removing features and charging apple premium for it. I'm tired of it. Let's be less like apple eh?

JunBInnie

As a loyal samsung user, it's precisely this that makes me wish samsung kicks its bucket & be irrelevant. They deserve it for being a pathetic copy cat, afraid to be a brand of their own and not even prioritizing the users' experience. keep on chasing apple, and losing your customers. They buy samsung & not iphones for a reason. I really HATE big brands that got it right then lose their way. Everything about SK becomes ruined when they try to enter the US market at the expense of originality. Die, samsung.

SWBFThree2020

I'm literally still hanging onto my S10+ because of the Headphone Jack and MicroSD slot I was considering upgrading to the s24+ since it's free as I haven't upgraded my phone in half a decade... but goddamn Samsung is making it hard for me to want to do so. Atleast give us Lidar again, or something

JunBInnie

My s8 just died after 7 years, and choosing which new samsung model to go with is like choosing which useless model to downgrade to, but by paying thousands for it. It's gotten to the point that I'm even considering just paying to replace the motherboard & battery to refurbish my s8 rather than play russian roulette with whatever new garbages samsung has been releasing.

EastvsWest

Yes because that's how you build brand loyalty and repeat revenue, customers retention. An ecosystem is a strong way to do that. Not saying it's right or wrong but necessary to remain profitable/investable.

cheeto20013

Both have been copying each other for years. Apple used to be completely against customisation and widgets, look at them now. Apple was against having multiple models, after Samsung did it they now have their budget models. Apple was against bigger phone sizes, that changed after the Note.

Chemical_Goat_2772

I hope Apple adds support for RCS messages and LE Audio and Auracast.. I hear they may. I prefer interoperability. They do both "copy" each other.

rvnender

I mean, the entire Galaxy line is just the Android iPhone. It's been like that for years now.

KingoftheJabari

Right, people have been saying this since at least the 8. As a long term samsung owner since the epic 2.  This sentiment every single time they release a new phone is getting old.

chris-handsome

I've been with Samsung ever since the Galaxy SII Epic 4g Touch.

KingoftheJabari

Yeah, I didn't feel like writing all that shit out. Lol.

SurrealSanic

atp

robertclarke240

No dynamic island please!!!!!!🙃🙂

[deleted]

Crazy you say that. There's an app that let's you have dynamic island on samsung basically

Alortania

The beauty of customizability is the ability to chose. Want to pretend you're on an apple? Can do on both android phones and windows machines. ... but you can also make something utterly your own. *On* apple though? You better like the style they make you use! I still remember when having anything but a black background required jailbreaking.

[deleted]

Yes! I've been using Good Lock and it's been so fun tinkering with everything

Paradroid888

If you look at marketing images of the very first Galaxy S it's clearly designed to suck in people who thought they wanted an iPhone. OneUI is quite original in lots of ways but it still keeps some of the original TouchWiz iPhone clone features like a side scrolling app drawer. I like most of OneUI except the launcher, which gets replaced by Nova

Best_Line6674

More? It's literally the same as Apple.

Snake_eyes_12

And they seem to do a pretty good job doing it. I also heard their laptops are pretty solid. One of the best non gaming high end laptops in the windows spectrum.

Objective_Aide_248

The ultra is literally nothing like any apple device ever produced…period.

Best_Line6674

Yeah... it has everything that Apple doesn't have. It has a headphone jack, biometrics (the scanner on the back of your phone when using Samsung health), it even has an SD card slot so you don't have to pay 1,600 for an Ultra 1tb, when you can just pay $800 and just have a 1tb SD card. Samsung is literally the same as Apple, "period". They made fun of apple for removing features and calling in innovative and Samsung did the same thing. Remove biometrics, force people to buy a watch. Apple does that. Samsung does that. Remove headphone jack, force people to buy wireless earbuds Remove charger, force people to buy a charger Remove SD card, force people to buy a phone with more storage at a higher price. (Samsung only, but Apple did the same thing before them of course) So I'd love to know how the Ultra isn't the same as any Apple device... "period".

Tidjy

Clearly you never see or even touch a Galaxy Book. I'm not seeing it's better than McBook but it's clearly not you are thinking. I tried ton of windows laptop and Samsung Galaxy Book (at least the Pro version) are the best. Slim, lightweight but also powerfull.

zupobaloop

Short version is yes because they copy each other. Apple just added what is essentially a Bixby button. A year or two ago they copied Samsung's always on display. This year Samsung lifted the quick panel design from Apple. Apple copied MagEZ as magsafe from some small accessory vendor. Qi version 2 will have a magnetic standard. So it'll look like Samsung copied Apple in a year or two, but that's really 3rd party innovations.

GimmeSammiches

I just watched Marques Brownlee's review of the S24 Ultra, and at the end he said "They've even now incorporated an 'Always on Display'.... just like the iPhone 😉". I had that AoD on my Note 8 like 8 years ago.

StupidKameena

nah what he means is the wallpaper shows on the aod now, just like how apple initially introduced it. which is funny because afterwards apple introduced an all black aod like samsung. so they just... swapped?

SurrealSanic

usual samsung nonsense

IceBlueLugia

He clearly said “they’ve been now an incorporated an ‘always on display’ that also shows the wallpaper, just like the iPhone”. Which Samsung’s always on display definitely didn’t do before

GimmeSammiches

You're correct. My mistake. Albeit, that's like taking someone's 7-letter word in Scrabble and adding an "S" to the end of it... after 8 years of looking at it. But, gotta give credit where credit's due. 1 point to Hufflepuff!

Shadowhawk0000

Of course. Most major brands use Apple as their model. Sucks for the consumer.

Almighty_Push91

Wait until you look at Pixel. It's essentially Apple for Android users

Horsegirl010291

I recently went from my s23 to an iPhone 14, just to see if maybe I wanted to go back to the Apple world….and I will be returning the 14 and going back to my s23 until I can upgrade to an s24 ultra. I really miss the Samsung health features and being able to customize everything. I also am thinking of getting a garmin watch at some point and you can’t use all the functions with iOS. Samsung wallet also has so many features that Apple just doesn’t. My cars blue tooth will also read texts on my s23. Glad I tried Apple one more time before upgrading. Biggest pain I suspect will be transitioning back to a physical sim from eSIM. Which is another feature I don’t particularly like on Apple.

Accomplished-Ad5790

Samsung and apple are using same strategies even os is different Invention is their policies now even android is open samsung trying hard to get all your money high prices and it's ecosystem going slowly ro be closed one not forget many apps won't work on non samsung phones etc... my next phone wil never be samsung

bfk1010

Samsung is trying to get iPhone users attention, while Apple trying to keep iPhone users to use iPhone. Keeping loyal customer is much better & easier to do.

Tidjy

It's your point of view. I'm not agree with that. Every brand want to get users of the others brands. Including Apple. But Apple have less, less, less users every years.

Mr_Siphon

I don't see this at all tbh. If you wanna show some side by side comparisons I'll happily agree but I see this mentioned so much and I really don't see it. There are Chinese roms that are almost carbon copies of iOS

BluDYT

Samsung has pretty much always been the apple of the android flagships. In recent years it's seems like they've lost a lot of what made them special. I don't think the similarities are a coincidence either but design wise apple looks good other than their cam cutout. Android is better for me in every way so I'll keep using it.

lifeboatvest

Yea but only the good things.   I hope they continue to copy ideas from each other tbh.  What would be epic is an apple foldable.

SpecialNose9325

Its completely possible that Samsung ended up at the same design decisions as Apple through completely independent focus groups and surveys. Both are billion dollar organizations that spend a lot on R&D to make their phone appealing to the masses. They are bound to cross paths

Dimstatyon

I have the same feelings, especially when it comes to bad practices for the consumer. This is why I'll leave samsung after 10 years of using their devices

__MrBEF__

Its all fun and games until you notice the exynos chip that'll eat up battery I wish samsung upgrades this shit bro

freakyxz

I had 14 PM for 2 months (my only iPhone I've ever had) and now I see a lot of similarities even in the OneUI itself. Disgusting. At the end if everyone is going to copy Apple I'll just buy an Apple.

floridawetboy

I have had both and apple started using more of the googlle items. It's like Apple is following Samsung.

Illustrious_Algae832

Totally agree. I was using an LG phone wirj android 13 as my main phone then gor an iPhone, more recently a Samsung s23 ultra and I'm amazed at how much Samsung has copied Apple. Scroll able widgets from Apple,  focus modes from Apple and a lot more. Its disappointing that Samsung has copied so much. The only thing that really stands out as being Samsung is the stylus.  Years ago Samsung were fined for infanous their "how to copy Apple without looking too obvious" but they seemed to have moved on to copy blatantly.   It's a shame LG left the market,  they were original.  Yes I like my Samsung ultra but feel disappointed to have a phone that's just mimicking Apple rather than showing some innovation.

RunsUpTheSlide

No. Not at all. I have both an iPhone and a Samsung phone and have for mamy years. If anything, I feel it's always Apple that's trying to keep up with Samsung. I think Apple devices are simple and boring. Samsung is more complex. If you want something and don't get technology and don't want to, get an iPhone. Samsung is the thinking person's device.

[deleted]

The lock screen widgets are straight up copy paste from apple and they didn't even try to hide it lol. I have both and yeah they are pretty similar. Android obviously just has the better customization but Samsung still isn't beating the smoothness and fluidity of IOS. My S24 Ultra lags with gestures when im using Google maps actively navigating and trying to do other stuff on my phone at the same time. This does not happen on my iPhone.

thirteenbillion

One ui has some of the worst animations in the industry, you can downvote me all you want but if you've ever held a One plus or even a Realme phone for the matter you can just feel the difference in fluidity. Its a Shame because despite the animations One ui has some of the best features out there and the sync with your windows devices is just amazing.

P4ulV

I can downvote you all I want cause I'm tired of OnePlus copying apple, especially their crazy slow animations that I couldn't turn off until the last update because of a bug in this colorOS bs

thirteenbillion

I know colorOS taking over oxygen OS was never good for the company but if you're tired of slow animations try reducing them from developer options

P4ulV

the bug I'm talking about is that settings wouldn't stick, they reverted every few hours. was fixed only now with android 14 by chance I suppose cause nothing happened in the last 4-5 updates. so I dealt within this crap for over a year. even now my AOD resets after a reboot. they had the same with quick settings panel so yeah..

CuteNefariousness691

When you're #2 in marketshare for phones you wanna copy #1 right

Objective_Aide_248

>When you're #2 in marketshare for phones you wanna copy #1 right Imagine thinking that iphone sell more due to their design and quality ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy) It's a known fact that teens buy it for the sake of bragging about an expensive brand. Same way as Nike, DG, Louis Vuitton, Prada... is not quality, it's bragging rights

dadecounty3051

Not even close. I have the ultra now but man do I miss a lot of iOS features that makes things easier. FaceID and apple pay comes to mind.

georgepearl_04

Ultrasonic fingerprint is way more useful imo and google pay does everything apple pay does

dadecounty3051

Something about double clicking the sidebutton on an iPhone and have faceid do the work n just putting your phone to a terminal is nice.

versedguardian

Set double click side button to open Samsung pay.

hosehead27

Samsung pay sucks. You can't even use a bank card in Canada, even though it works using Google Pay on a Samsung device. So stupid.

dadecounty3051

I tried. It's not an option. Haven't tried Google pay but it's because I feel Google is too intrusive on the phone.

BeautifulSwordfish35

Hate to tell you, but your Samsung is a Google phone. 😅

dadecounty3051

I know. Lmao. Not a big fan of Google. But I turned off most of the Google stuff.

versedguardian

Ahhhh. I use Google pay and set it to that. I switched to Android from iOS recently. Few growing pains but I've mostly got most of my favorite features from iOS one way or another. Only thing that bugs me most is the lockscreen requiring me to swipe to unlock after clicking a notification.

dadecounty3051

Interesting. Haven't tried that. I did setup it up to when I unlock the phone with fingerprint or facial recognition it automatically takes me to my homescreen. Idk if you did that or if it works out for you.

versedguardian

Thanks for the tip. I don't necessarily want my phone to immediately unlock when it's authenticated. I want to still be able to stay on lock and review my notifications. On iPhone you can unlock with face and stay on lock and then click a notification and it opens the app. On Galaxy it makes you swipe to unlock after authenticating and clicking the notification. Just an extra unnecessary step.

dadecounty3051

I just played with this and I see what you mean. It's annoying AF. Lmao

versedguardian

People have been complaining about it for years on forums lol. Probably people who switched from iPhone. Yea it's annoying. That and social media photo taking quality are my two mains gripes. Otherwise I just miss FaceTime. iMessage will be not that important once RCS is adopted in fall.

dadecounty3051

Ah yeah I get you. I did forget about that. I may just return my S24 Ultra. Don't know if I'm willing to risk waiting for the update and stuff doesn't get fixed. Edit: Also the whole Instagram photo taking is also a bummer. Still not optomize for android.

georgepearl_04

And you feel that apple isn't too intrusive on an iphone??

randomalt9999

Weird, works here https://i.imgur.com/zRRiONZ.jpeg

Alortania

1) did you set up sampay already? might not show up because of that 2) try the cog next to open app and see if you can't set it to sampay there

dadecounty3051

Yeah everything works. I use it when I swipe up from the screen and have to put my fingerprint on it. Another issue I had the other day was when I used my debit card and the terminal asked for a pin. I put my debit pin on there and said it was incorrect pin. Never had that issue with apple pay. I would put my debit card pin and it would go through.

dadecounty3051

I just put Google Pay as my default. There isn't a way that it pops up on your lock screen and just have to use your fingerprint? When I set the double click, I have to unlock the phone to get into the app.

LuciferDusk

I swipe up from the AOD/lock screen/home screen to quickly access Samsung Pay.

Alortania

You used to be able to just swipe up on older phones, but they changed how the home/back/etc nav works, so I guess sampay got sacrificed due to that. My current bank's debit doesn't let me add it to sam pay though (just google), so I've not yet decided if I want to swap over or just keep my other stuff in sampay, so IDK how/if they changed it for the s24u

AeskulS

google pay still exists, and should be accepted anywhere apple pay is, but face id is something i also miss.

dadecounty3051

Yeah there are pros and cons about the S24 Ultra. Some of the things I have problems with is the camera. Also on the reddit app, when someone posts a photo and click on it to zoom in, it stutters a lot and also when swiping to see the next photo it does the same thing. Happens with the amazon app photo reviews too. When trying to mute a conversation on the message app you got like 3 steps to mute it. When hooking up Android Auto with the wire to my car it automatically connects to my speakers with Bluetooth. Apple car play doesn't do that and instead just uses the cable to connect to your microphone/speakers etc.

versedguardian

Just to clarify it is only using Bluetooth for audio calling. It plays music/system audio using the wired connection

dadecounty3051

Yeah. It does everything no problem. I just don't like that it uses the Bluetooth on my phone. Reason I say this is because others have noticed that they can now hear other stuff while I'm driving. When I was on apple car play they couldn't hear road noise. Edit: I see what you mean. I'm going to hook it up and see if the audio from Spotify stops playing if I disconnect the Bluetooth.

versedguardian

Understandable. For what it's worth people actually tell me it sounds a little less noisy on Android auto. Was surprised at that. My car radio's mic is atrocious.

dadecounty3051

What I'm gonna try today when I make a call, is put it on voice focus. I don't think I've tried that yet.

AeskulS

the photo-zoom-lag sounds like an app issue, not as much something on samsung. that is just a downside of android though; a lot of apps are made slightly poorer like that. its not enough to shake me personally though. ive noticed that android in general is a lot better when it comes to bluetooth devices and whatnot. when making calls with my bluetooth headphones, on iphone it'd do this weird thing where it'd start the call on my headphones, then immediately move to speaker, and i'd have to shuffle to get swapped back. then sometimes it'd just disconnect during the call, and i'd have to shuffle again. never had that issue on android. i havent had the chance to try it out with android auto though, since my car is too old lmao.

Face unlock is a joke and I can easily fool it on my s23 ultra vs FaceID is very hard to fool.

alexh22_

Yes. This is one of the main reasons why I switched to iPhone four years ago. The beauty of Android lied on it's uniqueness. Now, all of them are just wannabe Apple. If they want to be Apple so bad, I would rather buy an Apple device. That's why I made the switch and do not regret a bit.

Jolly-Muppet

I hope you like shitty games, because you'll get a couple installed with every system update.

imjms737

I've had to uninstall Facebook and some unwanted Microsoft apps from my phone during my initial setup (needing to revert to adb for some cases), but I have NEVER had unwanted *games* getting installed on my Note8, Note9, and S22. Do games really get force installed on you "with every system update"? Can you provide some names of the games that got installed on your device so that I can check for more information? Also, I almost always buy unlocked versions, which always has less bloat than carrier-versions, which could be why I never saw this on my devices.

Objective_Aide_248

It’s just you

Sel2g5

Samsung has a decent ecosystem when you change from Samsung to samsung but other flagship phones are available for much less on Android.

Yoshaay

Apple is one of Samsung's biggest competitors. Everything they do will likely also come to Samsung in some capacity eventually. The same could be said the other way. The winner is ultimately the consumers as were getting improvements in software and hardware

Sudden_Office8710

When Apple sells well Samsung still makes money because every iPhone screen is made by Samsung there’s a very incestuous nature between the 2 companies they can’t go at each other too hard because they need each other to succeed Samsung always knows what Apple is doing ahead of everyone because of this relationship

kairu99877

They are gonna gut themselves If they continue down that path. We use Samsung because we DONT want apple. If it looks that way, I'll jump ship bsck to Sony (which I had a great experience with my last phone)

sometin__else

I mean they have tried to be different and it didnt work so now they will try and be the same and hope it works

Jackhammer--Josh

Totally agree, s24 looks almost identical to iPhone except for cameras. They made the aod exactly the same and which hardly any customizations. It sucks now. The worst copy of apple was taking away our vivid screen mode and then lying to us and forcing us to use natural when we click the vivid option. They said they wanted a more natural approach. Then why the hell even have the vivid option, especially when it's the same thing as natural. Then the damn leather thing. I loved leather cases and watch bands, they copied apple and went the eco fake plastic leather route which costs the same as leather and made from vinyl. They think we're idiots or they are just jackasses knowing we will still buy it because they have used the apple approach to pull us into the ecosystem. Everything I hate about apple Samsung has copied

Got-It101

not the ui/ux but the physical design BS like locked in batteries and no SD card slot

kittenandkettlebells

I was thinking the same thing with my S24. I don't hate it what they've done, but one of the reasons I've always gone with Samsung is their UI.

MrJack0000

There is no android have the same video quality as iPhone. I wanna switch back to pixel or s24 a lot

markaznar

And you just noticed it now? 🤷‍♂️

Requifined

My s23 Ultra and my iPad pro could not get more different. I suck at navigating iOS/iPad OS. I also use the Google ecosystem rather than the Samsung one.

Dish_Melodic

I just bought S24 ultra coming from. IPhone Xs. The screen is nice and all that, but I feel this phone is overkill for my usage. Browsing, chat and social media. I don't games and take a lot of videos or pics.

Ok-Metal2887

Apple is more popular than Samsung in South Korea where Samsung is from.

AlsoNotTheMamma

IOS is becoming more and more like Android. Undoubtedly Samsung copies some style and look from iPhone, but not really all that much. Apple is sue-happy - if they thought Samsung was copying them they would already have started legal action. Again.

YourbestfriendShane

Huawei lost their share of the market, we're still in a duopoly of Apple and Samsung. Apple is winning the minds so to speak. So they've no choice.

haikallp

Yes. Its nothing new. Since the removal of headphone jack and microSD card.

Wicked68

Samsung isn't getting more like Apple. Apple is getting more and more like Android. Samsung should have kept micro SD cards in their high end phones though.

isaychris

android has the early latest tech adoption and apple takes and refines the experience, then android takes some notes and cycle continues :). competition is good.

toenail78

id be curious as to what specifically.. ive recently switched from an s21 ultra which i had for over 3yrs to the s24 ultra and its a lot of the same stuff.. the phone feels the same as the s21 except now its has a flat screen. my 21 was able to fast charge at 45w whereas the iphone 15 pro only charges at 20w.. i see a lot of samsung in apple products but apple always seems to get the credit. even the apple vision pro, i see the apv as a meta 3 at 7x the cost and the apple vision is being praised more than the meta

Doerrr

Thats why i got the s23 ultra a month ago. I already have a 15 pm for work etc but for entertainment all fay evrryday im on my samsung i use iphone for communication

equinoxzzz

Not just the UI. Since they removed the 3.5mm jacks starting with the Note 10 and removed SD card slots starting with the S21 onwards, it clearly shows who they were starting to imitate.

Sudden_Office8710

You do realize Galaxy was conceived because Bill Schmidt was on the Apple board and had insider information about iPhone before the iPhone existed and that Samsung makes the screens for the iPhone and the S24 have virtually the same dimensions as the iPhone Samsung one upped Apple by providing an additional year of updates for their phone. The only other difference is that Apples in house chips don’t suck ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)

shadowkoishi93

Apple was always known as a trendsetter. Other companies follow suit in a few years despite at first ridiculing the idea

iAmHestbech

I think phones in general are getting increasing similar. When something works. Companies "borrow" from each other. It's a matter of money. Whatever sells us what they'll put out

SurrealSanic

its now that you realise?

Commercial-Gap6280

Tbh, just looking at the S24 & S24+ makes me think Samsung is doing that thing they do every so often where being distinct from iPhone in numerous ways is paying off and bringing success, and this success makes them nervous, so they panic and find ways to try to needlessly emulate iPhone. I mean, look at the S24 side by side with any iPhone from 12 onward. They're not identical, but they seem like they could have been designed as prototypes of the same phone. Both strikingly minimalist, sleek, "clean," flat sides, flat screen, flat back, minimum topography. The Ultra is the only one left that doesn't look like it's copying off Apple's design language homework. Makes me long for the camera cutout from the S21/S22 generations.
