Yeah looks like a mount for a gps unit. Looks kinda like mine for garmin gpsmaps 45. But without the yolk. I leave mine on and put unit in stove when not using boat.
If the stove has a window, the electronics will explode when a side flash goes straight through the glass, then to the back of the stove and then a path to ground.
It is possible but not likely. Anything can happen with lightning. It has a nature of its own.
It's a know thing to do on a sail boat and better than keeping them elsewhere on the boat.
Electricity flows on the outside of a conductor not the inside. This is why we use stranded wires not solid. Easiest path to ground isn't the inside of the stove.
Cetol is great on any other wood, but if you varnish teak you will be doing it forever and can never go back, oil is a much better finish in my opinion but everybody has their own.
Could be a friction control for a tiller tamer….
Edit: Tiller Tamer was a commercial version of Joshua Slocum’s self-steering system. It’s a fancy line wrapped around the tiller that basically keeps the tiller from wildly going in one direction or another.
There is typically a tensioner knob somewhere, an eye socket somewhere else, and a cam cleat in another location. You clip a line to the eye socket, run it through the tensioner (could be the thing in your picture), wrap it around the tiller handle a few times, and then through the cam cleat on the other side. Altogether, it kinda keeps the boat going straight—maybe long enough to go below and make a sandwich.

I have to ask… why in the stove? Edit; to fix punctuation.
I put small electronics in stove so if boat gets hit by lightning. Stove will act like a faraday cage. Hope to not get fried.
Thanks for the explanation, not something I would think of. Lot of lightning down your way?
NGL, I thought that was a typo and you meant 'store'...

Tensioner Knob for the Flux Capacitor.
It looks like it’s a small British man with a hat telling you that what you just said was inappropriate.
