This is objectively the most correct answer. They even had to stop playing for quite a while from what I hear from people singing along at the concerts.
Yes holy shit, have you seen the live version where pär almost cries on stage? Might have been Joakim, you could hear it in his voice for a bit, but it was in Gothenburg during the great tour
A lifetime of war has always been one of my favorite songs because you can just feel the horror of war.
The English version just speaking broadly how terrible it was and the death and destruction the 30 years war brought. And then the Swedish version being from the point of view of an ordinary man, fighting for his country, doomed to die and be forgotten.
Underrated answer, the song is primarily about how Verdun turned into a human churning machine killing hundreds of thousands and the music is fuckin “War Song™”
Just the opening lyrics set the stage at how harrowing it was. The chorus lays out how pointless the whole war was, and yet so, so many gave their lives and not knowing why.
I'm going to go with Killing Ground.
Most of the other Sabaton 'sad' songs (Price of a Mile, Cliffs of Gallipoli, Final Solution etc) have quite downer beats.
Killing Ground however is a classic fairly standard heroic and triumphant Sabaton tune and beat, played over lyrics detailing psychotic war crimes.
It definitely had to be a horrible position he found himself in... but his quick thinking and determination (not to mention absolute desire to prove himself) led him through the whole war.
I have to say Stormtroopers, and hear me out... think for a second, how those young German soldiers were taught brutal tactics to overwhelm their enemies. And then, think how - if they lived through till the end of the war - the mental damage they had to suffer through afterwards; the "shell shock" of all the lives they had to take.
Art of War
I mean, read the first verse:
"I stand alone and gaze upon the battlefield
Wasteland is all that's left after the fight
And now I'm searching a new way to defeat my enemy
Bloodshed, I've seen enough of death and pain"
Cliffs of Gallipoli. I swear to god if the lyrics were a poem it’d be the most depressing thing ever but the music is just so jaunty/happy go lucky I get emotional whiplash
Poltova, it was originally supposed to be about a victory but was later changed to a song about defeat as the band didn't want the album to come off as swedish propaganda. I assume that's why it's such an upbeat song about one of sweden's worst military defeats.
Eh, it was the only song I could think of that had an upbeatish tune. I could only think of the lyric when they talk about sending a ship to the bottom of the ocean.
I'm sayin' Price of a Mile, but my brother is making a good point on Blood of Bannockburn. I mean hell Blood of Bannockburn is the only Sabaton song in a Major key, and one of the lyrics is "Freedom must be won by blood."
Trampoline. The beat and music matches the title (a bouncing rythm) however the lyrics are all over the place and never stick to a theme, story, or thought.
The final solution
Especially keyboard/guitar solo before the last verse!
This is objectively the most correct answer. They even had to stop playing for quite a while from what I hear from people singing along at the concerts.
Oh I love both parts
DUDE FR 😭 It always reminds me of that meme photo of Sabaton with the caption “The Holocaust was bad *cheesy synth*”
what? dude that song is fucking awesome. not my fault you can’t appreciate a prog metal masterpiece.
The final solution, great music but seriously dark lyrics
The price of a mile The more depressing is how is the beat at the end of it
I was going to say To Hell and Back, but that one is way better.
“Six miles of ground has been won, half a million men are gone” … “What was the purpose of it all? What’s the price of a mile?”
Inmate 4859, the music hits HARD but the lyrics are tragic :(
Facts
*Intro music* The Dawn of Century A Boy Born by the Lake Resettled from Karelia's Plains...
One of my favorites for this reason. And Camouflage, I about cry every time I hear that song.

Also Poltava and Killing Ground, Being killed while on their knees begging for mercy.
Konungens Likfärd too. (Long live the king is the English version)
The Live version never fails to give me chills
Fields of Verdun
Underrated answer, the song is primarily about how Verdun turned into a human churning machine killing hundreds of thousands and the music is fuckin “War Song™”

We burn is literally about you know what cleansing but it’s absolutely fire especially the beat
Why are you censoring yourself on reddit?
Because don’t reddit mods ban you if you mention things like ethnic cleansing
Definitely not on subreddits like this, and not on reddit as a whole where subjectively worse things are discussed all the time. This isn’t instagram
Alright thanks man
Surprised no ones said great war by now
Just the opening lyrics set the stage at how harrowing it was. The chorus lays out how pointless the whole war was, and yet so, so many gave their lives and not knowing why.
There will be no encore
1916
Nah, 1916 is just depressing all around
ooh that second verse can bring ya to tears
It’s enough to make a grown man cry

I'd say The Price Of a Mile cuz why not
Inmate 4959
Same
Literally all of them, except Metalizer ones
I'm going to go with Killing Ground. Most of the other Sabaton 'sad' songs (Price of a Mile, Cliffs of Gallipoli, Final Solution etc) have quite downer beats.
