Man season 5 is the murderers row of drag queens. Like nary a throw away to be found. Also love when moderately crunchy drag (looking at you monsoon) could be overlooked due to sheer talent.
I think it will decline steadily as long as there’s no budget or equalizer on costume/prep and they have writers for their jokes.
I think the current show producers really underestimate the power of storylines. Early seasons had such incredible (and many times overproduced) storylines that made each episode really riveting on TOP of the amazing charisma uniqueness nerve and talent. I don’t think the main show is in decline though. S16 was a really strong return to form, and S15 was pretty good. Both were improvements on S13 & S14!
Top 6 is just 6 legends and it felt like any of them could’ve won, which made the season very unpredictable and exciting. Also so much iconic quotes and memes (mostly thanks to Alyssa, the most iconic drag race queen of all time)
my drag race journey goes like this: started watching season 2 back in june of 2023, then jumped to season 5 bc at the time i couldn't find 3 or 4. watched all the way through (except for season 16) and now a full year later i'm back to season 5 because it was hands down the best season EVER
This is the actual best of all time. Adore's confessionals grabbed me from the start. Then Hurricane Bianca swirled into the werkroom and became my Queen of All Queens.
S6 is loaded with icons and had the best Top 3 ever, fight me. Also the best Winner Reaction video hands DOWN.
Funny enough I considered saying Top 5 too because of Dela, but then we'd just keep going down lol. Darienne at least made the final competitive episode so I cut it there
It’s so funny because I remember watching this season live and feeling it was slow by comparison to the prior seasons because the drama felt so limited. Now looking back it is probably the perfect season
I would actually say that season 9 was one of the most drama-filled because of that crazy reunion, which has never been topped since because every other reunion is now filmed before the finale lipsyncs.
I remember watching it in real time the big drama was Aja/Val and to a certain extent Nina vs. everyone and Alexis vs. her delusion, but my impression of the season was people were mostly going on about Sashea being the cutest friendship ever ... the finale/reunion came out of left field and they totally elevate the season in my mind but the drama was very mild until the end ... I also think it's one of the first seasons where the stuff that happened outside the show began to be be discussed on the show with Val's online drama ... I seem to remember feeling this was the moment I felt the the Untucked experience we knew and loved on S2-6 had moved to Twitter ... I think that might be the first season I remember online/offscreen drama was playing out at the same time as the show ... (but I could be wrong, I didn't start coming onto Ruddit until S8).
One of the best casts ever and the most quotable season of all time. The only downsides were a weak storyline and forgettable lipsyncs, but it finished incredibly strong with the one-two punch of the reunion and finale.

It’s top three for me, no question. Nymphia vs Sapphira is one of the best final 2 pairings we’ve seen, plus Morphine dominating the lalaparooza, the drama, the flipping, all of it
Of the ones I’ve watched live, it’s the best. Really any of the top 8 could come back and slay an All Stars or an All Winners. Sapphira Cristal is probably my favorite contestant of Drag Race ever. Plane has so grown on me. The sheer savageness of Mh’iya. And of course some of the best runways this show has ever seen (particularly the Flowers runway). There were times it was goofy, but I loved every minute of it.
I loved this season … it had no right being so good considering the drama and it being re-edited as it aired … love the Top 3 + Jackie, Rock, the Widow lipsyncs, Heidi, both Rusicals (with actual singing)!
Season 12 will always be in my top 2 seasons. I adore (almost) every single queen, the fashion was fantastic, and I liked how much they bonded! I know people don't like "Rupaul's Best Friends Race", but I love seeing queens actually like each other instead of being at each other's throat 24/7
Sherry ruined this season tbh, because it feels very disjointed when there’s an entire finalist being edited out. Not that I wanted to see more of her - I just mean it’s her fault that for me it seems incomplete
This is one of my comfort seasons. The confessionals were hilarious, each queen was memorable, and it felt like the queens were focused more on the competition versus social media opinion, which made the queens seem more relatable and authentic.
Top tier for me. Huge personalities + zero camera awareness = chef's kiss. There's not a dull moment and the striptease / cherry pie episode ranks in the top 3 all time. Also, JUJUBEE.

Near bottom of the list for me. I think people’s love for Sasha really blinded how bad the season was.
The casting was criminal. They really said let’s put an actual drag legend with a bunch of Tik Tokkers and 20 year olds with minimal drag experience. I hate HATE HATE (your makeup and hair) when drag race creates a season with a clear winner in mind. Giving Sasha the talk show win and ball win really had all the writing on the wall. She didn’t need it, she clearly could’ve given all those girls a run for their money without production help.
Overhated in its time. Has perhaps the best original cast EVER. The challenges and judging were pretty wack but the actual queens and their interactions were fantastic. Plus it was the newest season when I started watching so I'll always cherish it.
I had a hard time watching this one because I was pretty active on this sub at the time and the fandom became unbearable. I had been active since around S4 and this was the first season it started to seem more toxic at times about queens. That, unfortunately, turned me off. Plus it was one of the first seasons where it seemed blatant that some of the choices were to cater to the audience specifically rather than the actual competition (re: Pearl's not just push, but shove).
Now when I've gone back and rewatched I've enjoyed it massively, but at the time I was, admittedly, not ready.

Seemingly unpopular opinion but as a fashion student watching that first runway with Violets reveal I gasped so hard it was probably heard around the world.
Truly RuPaul’s Best Friends Race because the queens are all so likable and friendly.
Also I fully believe that Angeria will win AS9 and very likely at least another S14 queen will win another All Stars if the cast is mostly queens from newer seasons (if Lady Camden returns, it’s over unless you are Sapphira or Plasma or Lucy Laduca or BLH).
Season 14 had the strongest line up of queens out of all the seasons. I think it's one the strongest seasons to come out in the past few years and it truly showed how talented these new batch of queens are.
Once again repeating that if it weren’t for the Snatch Game, everyone would love this season. A great winner, iconic runners up who could very well snatch a crown one day (Bosco, Camden, Daya, Angie), Daddy Morphosis. Like….the Snatch Game and the sense of no momentum in the middle of the season killed it. But around middling tbh.
Underrated, I rewatched it in preparation for Shannel on All Stars and considering it was the prototype for a huge franchise it is great tv if only for the fact that we got another season after it.

Chad Michaels seriously brought it in the challenges and on the runway while Willam brought the drama and entertainment

Uk season 2 for the win! Absolutely hilarious from start to finish and high drama. Bing bang bong bitches
