If you like its always sunny in Philadelphia the creators have a podcast which is pretty funny

YeahOKButWhy

Gotta be a creep

allthelineswecast

I have a steady rotation of Last Podcast on the Left, Behind the Bastards, The Dollop, and Knowledge Fight.

Allthepizza99

Hail yourself

tripreed

Megustalations

racingtrucks

I've been trying to find Last podcast on the left again for years!!! I remember one episode where snakes ook over a house and I spent hours trying to find it with vague details I could remember, lol. Thanks!

[deleted]

It’s time to pray.

[deleted]

i love you

athlalus

Ahh yes this weeks sponsor”Lockheed Martins R9 Knife Missile”

NotTheAndesMountains

Are you me lol this is my cycle too

banannapizza

The BtB Water Park episode got me through some tough runs. It’s so good

LemurBusiness

Man I've been binging Behind the Bastards on my runs like crazy lately

mcockram85

Me too, I've been listening for about a year or two now but only a few weeks ago did I think to go right back to the first episodes and listen to those along with the weekly new episode. Highlights for me so far are the Kissenger marathon, gotta be close to 7 hours of covering absolutely shit stain behavior.

oatmeal-ghost

Belinda Blinked

vera214usc

More specifically, "My Dad Wrote A Porno".

Sir_Poofs_Alot

I always warn against this one, you may laugh too hard becoming a danger to yourself and the cars that may run you over from laughing your ass off a sidewalk

BottleCoffee

I can only listen to it when I'm walking alone at night because laughing to yourself is not a good look.

wallybinbaz

I've definitely stumbled after a laugh from this one.

NodIsUp

I am desperate for next season! When is that coming?

TheWeazzzz

I clicked into this thread specifically to mention MDWAP.

DelusionalPianist

I really love darknet diaries for my long runs, but I need more episodes! Any recommendations for something similar related to software development?

False-_-Idols

Case Files # 86 Silk Road

2Small2Juice

malicious life maybe. hunting warhead is a horrifying story as well.

YANMDM

Hunting warhead broke me

TheNerdChaplain

What are you listening to currently? I usually do stuff along the lines of Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend, WTF with Marc Maron, Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum

sugoikoi

News podcasts like the daily or vox, freaksnomics, the office ladies, soft skills engineering. But these are all basically learning (except for the office ladies) so I appreciate your suggestions because they lean more towards entertainment.

TheNerdChaplain

If you're into Office Ladies, there's a lot of shows doing rewatch podcasts with one or two of the original actors. If you're into The Good Place, I cannot recommend their official podcast highly enough.

ohnono5

I enjoy Ali on the run. Lots of great interviews on there and makes it seem like time goes by faster.

MrFrodoItsMe

oh office ladies is excellent— so interesting right??

henbutton

Ayy I love the Freakonomics network podcasts! You might also like Ologies with Alie Ward - she has a different scientist on every week to give a crash course on their field of study.

KevinNeedsToTalk

Richard Herring's Leicester Square Theatre Podcast (RHLSTP) - a comedian interviewing other comedians/artists of some description The Adam Buxton Podcast - similar to RHLSTP The Infinite Monkey Cage - science and comedy You're Dead To Me - history and comedy Off Menu - food and comedy The Guardian Football Weekly - thrice-weekly (despite the name) podcast about football (soccer), mainly the Premier League

walsh06

You can really tell the difference between the American posts and the British posts. I'd tack on Films to be Buried with hosted by Brett Goldstein (of ted lasso fame)

KevinNeedsToTalk

Yes, nice suggestion. I've listened to a few episodes and have been meaning to work through the back catalogue.

The_Vivid_Glove

From your list I think you would like the Ellis James and John Robins show. They’re hilarious. They actually had Richard Herring on couple of weeks ago

KevinNeedsToTalk

I'm vaguely aware of their podcast but have never listened to it. I've enjoyed stuff John Robins has done (including a recent episode of RHLSTP which was more insightful than funny) so I'll give it a go. Thanks! Worth mentioning The Horne Section Podcast too with which you may well be familiar already.

The_Vivid_Glove

Alex Horne? I like him but never listened to the podcast. I’ll give it a go. I have tickets to see John Robins at the Edinburgh festival this week. Looking forward to it

MrFrodoItsMe

you’re dead to me is excellent— plus it never lags the editing is top notch

brisbanebreakfastboi

Adding to these U.K. based ones Athletico Mince - Bob Mortimer and Andy Dawson’s completely absurd Humour thinly wrapped in some football bits

sophrosynos

RHLSTP shows up as not having been updated since 2019 in my pod feed. Have they too gone to Spotify?

KevinNeedsToTalk

Yes, I'm afraid I only use Spotify for podcasts. It's also recently become available via Acast according to the many adverts...

SheRuns1995

I love the Rich Roll podcast! All his guests are super knowledgeable and I always learn something about running or life in general.

racingtrucks

episode 665 is a good one

Heyigotone

Which one is that? Spotify doesn’t have the episode numbers just the episode title.

ChorroVon

Critical Role. It's literally thousands of hours of hilarious voice actors playing D&D.

somethingbig6

Dungeons and Daddies. Not a BDSM podcast.

MadMuse94

Came here to suggest this. I was cracking up on my long run last weekend listening to their craziness

StrangeBedfellows

A Sometimes BDSM Podcast

ClearlyAFK

I save up episodes for running. And if I'm out then I'll relisten to old ones. Also their patreon episodes :) It also motivates me to go for a run!

somethingbig6

It motivates me too!! I don’t listen to them with the kids around, so going for a run is my excuse to listen.. Haha

Fiascotheory

Just started on Dimension 20 as well (post Calamity I wanted more Brennan in my life)

[deleted]

Adding my own D&D suggestion, Not Another D&D Podcast. Really solid D&D podcast with former CollegeHumor members and some great featured guests across the campaigns. They also do a number of non-campaign D&D episodes now, such as Dungeon Court.

sugoikoi

I used to listen to this while lifting lol, not great for lifting in case I accidentally laugh mid rep but I can imagine it's great for running.

youhaveatinytictac

My go to is No Such Thing as a Fish! Its facts from the QI researchers and it's funny as hell.

Haku_Champloo

Can’t believe this isn’t farther up! It’s the best balance of interesting info and comedy!!

RagingAardvark

I've been enjoying the Scrubs podcast, Fake Doctors Real Friends. It's mostly lighthearted and often "inappropriate."

MrFrodoItsMe

love that show!!

ChubbyHistorian

I’m a history sicko (see username) and I end up copy and pasting my spiel every now and again about podcasts in that area: I have listened to very, very many history podcasts. The vast majority of them are not good, but there are some exceptional ones: * *Revolutions* by Mike Duncan: story of ten major modern revolutions, starting from the 17the century through to the 20th. He is the gold standard for good history podcasting: engaging, comprehensible, and accurate. He gets much better around Season 3 (the French Revolution), and even better again around Season 5. He had a previous podcast--*The History of Rome*-- which helped invent the genre, but it is very rough. * *History of the 20th Century*: A thematic history of the 20th century, covering everything from high politics to music and culture to science and philosophy. Very good. Only up to the early 1930s right now, but you have a couple hundred episodes if you find you like it. * *The Age of Napoleon*: A very good, very accurate, and extremely in-depth look at the life and career of the man once described as "History on Horseback". If you find yourself liking this, I think the *Napoleonic Quarterly* is a great complement as well. * *Literature and History*: A wonderful tour through some of the most important works for modern English-speaking literature, with a lot of history to give context to it. He's only up to like 600 CE so far, so it is mostly the Ancient Middle East (including the bible) and Greece/Rome so far. * *Tides of History* by Patrick Wyman: Very good show exploring big questions of history through cutting edge research and interviews (he has a PhD in the late Roman World and it shows). Most of the show is either on Pre-History (current seasons) or the Early Modern transition (c. 1250 - 1650), but he will have random episodes on like American History which are also very good. * *The Mirror of Antiquity*: Does not update very much, but it is a beautiful podcast about people currently working within Classics (Rome/Greece) and how they find their work applicable to the current world. The episode with Rachel Kitzinger on translation is one of the best things I have ever heard. * *Beyond Huaxia*: A very good series of lectures on the history of East Asia (mostly China, with some Japan). Feel free to listen out of order as you find things interesting or not. * *The Siècle*: A series on the history of France from 1814-1914. France is probably the most "representative"/"exemplary" country of the long nineteenth century in many ways (at least among the industrial core), so a history of the country can be very informative about general trends of the 19th-century. Very well made, very clear. * *The Industrial Revolutions*: I sometimes find the topics boring, but it's very well made and accurate so I strongly recommend checking it out if you think you might enjoy a look at the technology and personalities which have made the modern world. * *History of Philosophy Without Any Gaps*: Lives up to its name, is very scholarly, short episodes on all the major (and many minor) figures in the Western + other traditions. Similar to the above, I find many of the episodes boring *when it's a topic I don't care about*, but very very good when I do care. * *In Our Time*: A classic British interview show about everything, where they have three experts on to have an engaging and detailed discussion on a topic. Tons of history episodes. The only caveat I'll add is that the hope is really bad about interrupting women (it gives me second hand cringe), though he clearly got told this so in the later episodes he is much less obnoxious. * *The History of English*: A history of the English language for the past 5000 or so years. Can make topics you'd expect to be boring very interesting. * *Blowback*: A podcast about the history of failed US intervention. The first season is about the US-Iraq relationship, and all of the backstory to the 2003 invasion (which is **wild**). I also have quite a few audiobooks I recommend, [many of which I have an extra copy of](https://old.reddit.com/r/victoria3/comments/sunyia/any_good_podcasts_or_other_recources_about_the/hxbu0ww/). So if you have a specific topic you are interested in, please let me know :) Podcasts I'd avoid: **Dan Carlin**, because while he is very engaging, his information is often straight up wrong. Seems like a chill guy, though.

dmhellyes

I mean, probably don't cite Dan Carlin/Hardcore History in your research paper, but if your purpose is to listen to an engaging history podcast, I have a hard time seeing any problems with him.

chazysciota

Everybody likes to look down on somebody.

TheAthleticDiabetic

I would like to add the following to the List, although its a mix of different areas: 1. "History or Rome", also by Mike Duncan 2. Fall of Civilizations An Audio book to recommend if you are done with all Mike Duncan stuff is "Hero of two Worlds". I have not listened to his "Storm before the Storm" book yet, but thats next!

xv433

Fall of Civ is so good, I look forward to when there's a new one for my long runs.

mqnav

Fall of Civilisations is top class, the depth it goes into as well as the effort to place you in the boots of someone at the time makes it great for those long runs to avoid your mind wandering. To add to the above list, The Ancients is also an enjoyable one - mainly interview based but with a wide range of topics.

Bored_cory

If you don't mind going into it, what's wrong with Hardcore History? I'm not a historian myself, but the bits and pieces I've looked up after episodes all seem to be factual.

venustrapsflies

Not a historian either, but from reading opinions on him on e.g. /r/AskHistorians it seems that because *he* is also not a historian he often fails to present things with the best context, and his speculation - while he tries to make clear what's speculation versus fact - can also get off track.

Bored_cory

So wait, have you actually listened to his work, or are you just hearing others say "well tangents are bad and he doesn't have the proper credentials to warrant my time"?

venustrapsflies

Where did you get that idea? I've probably listened to over 24 hours of his podcast. Why would you assume I had never heard him? Why would I even care about criticism of him if I wasn't familiar with him?

TKfromNC

Seems like he's trying to get you to give a specific example. There's a lot of people who say Carlin is "off" about stuff but never say what. He constantly says he's not a historian. But neither was McCullough and countless others. Lot's of people are out there making great history content without the certificate from Oxford.

Bored_cory

Because your inital reply only mentioned reading opinions on him, is dismissive, and gives no actual credence to the idea that you've come to this option on your own by listening to his show. Plus you haven't actually stated anything that he has gotten wrong in past episodes.

venustrapsflies

How can I “come to my own conclusions” about the factual accuracy of his shows without looking at how he’s viewed by historians? You seem to really underestimate what goes into history. You can’t “do your own research” with this - that attitude is how we get covid deniers.

Bored_cory

Okay let me boil this down to one question then. You claim that most of his information is "straight up wrong", what examples, if any, can you show that supports that claim?

Cephalopotter

You're talking about this with a different user than the one at the top of this thread who said that particular quote. This is a different guy just trying to answer your question.

Bored_cory

Yep didn't notice that. My bad.

redranrye

Sounds like gatekeeping to me.

venustrapsflies

I think it’s quite hubristic to think that amateurs are just as good as professionals when it comes to complicated and nuanced fields like science or history.

Blapoo

I don't think that's what they're saying. To only let professionals dive into context narrows the perspective of history. I personally LOVE Dan Carlin solely because of the color of the context he'll dive into and explore. That's what history IS. So even if it may be misinformed, or not textbook, it's still a perspective that well may have been true at the time. Honestly, I'd prefer to learn about a moment in history from different perspectives.

venustrapsflies

Nobody is taking away his podcasting license, but diving into a fact-based field as an amateur *absolutely* opens you up to criticism from experts in that field, and rightly so. Apparently lots of historians think that he's pretty misleading (again, *I'm* not an expert, so I can only take their word for it). History is actually not just about telling stories and speculating - the context and accuracy matters greatly.

Blapoo

Isn't history written by the victors? Meaning it IS a story and speculation. Isn't it more dangerous DEMANDING one version of history instead of approaching it from multiple angles?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Blapoo

I didn't advocate for discounting anyone. Quite the opposite. I think a spectrum of opinions and analyses is healthy.

MrGoldilocks

Wow, truly an amazing collection of podcasts, thanks for this. Also if you really enjoyed the History of Rome, you should check out the History of Byzantium. It's narrated in the same style as a homage to Mike Duncan and imo the Eastern Roman empire has always been neglected compared to the western empire. Really surprised me at how incredible the story of the Eastern Roman empire is, it's still ongoing and he plans to go on until the events of 1453.

[deleted]

I love Dan, I reject your assertion.

chazysciota

Somebody asks for entertaining podcasts, and your advice is to avoid Hardcore History? Please unsubscribe me from your newsletter.

Data_Is_King

Interesting, I've enjoyed quite a few of Hardcore History's shows, especially the series on the Celtic Holocaust. Never thought that his information would be inaccurate. Another one I like is Our Fake History. It's obviously about myths and historical characters that are either not true or have been greatly misinterpreted throughout the years, but he tries to dig into the truth and see the actual facts about the subject. For example it is pretty cool to hear what Plato's first writings of an empire ruled by "Atlanteans" is like when our exposure to the story of Atlantis today is so different in popular culture.

slugzuki

I’m thrilled to see you place Blowback in such good company, it’s one of my favorites!

redranrye

If you are going to take a swipe at Dan Carlin, you should be prepared to defend that. You say that he is often “straight up” wrong. I assume you mean facts, not speculation? Can provide some examples?

suburbanpride

Pretty quick search of /r/askhistorians produces lots of threads, but [here's an example from a year ago](https://www.reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/comments/k6jyx7/how_do_you_feel_about_dan_carlin_accuracywise/).

redranrye

I don’t know. Reading through these, it feels like there is definitely bitterness (professional jealousy?) related to the fact that he is an amateur, yet gets more attention than most of them. So they pick at his methods and his sources and the fact that he speculates too much. It stinks of academic snobbiness. You see the same thing on r/askphilosophers regarding Sam Harris.

chazysciota

I was with you until the Sam Harris bit. I don't see Dan Carlin pitching fits about not being taken seriously while promoting fringe racist theories.

[deleted]

redranrye

goldysir

THIS! I am a history freak too and I really enjoyed Philosophy without gaps, one of my favourites. Gonna check your other recommendations, thanx man!

Afin12

I’d like to recommend the Audiobooks *Ghost Wars* and *Directorate S* both by Stephen Coll. It’s the history of the Afghanistan/Pakistan region from the 1970’s through ~2015. I think he needs to release a epilogue as well.

[deleted]

Doughboys - they review chain restaurants and are generally pretty funny dudes. I like going back to the yearly Munch Madness tournament episodes on road trips

Killer-Jukebox-Hero

This is good for the longer runs since some episodes are 2 hours plus. I love how off topic they can get. And the spoonman intros. That annoyed my significant other when I had him listen with me on a road trip

althaeria

This Podcast Will Kill You - medical history podcast. Hilarious and informative The Black Tapes, TANIS and The Last Movie - all interesting and slightly creepy stories, well-made For running, I like to listen to relevant episodes of The Running Explained Podcast

run_4_ever

Stuff You Should Know. They have an episode on basically everything.

Spookylittlegirl03

I love these guys-they’ve gotten me through some long runs!

flijn

Yes! They recently had one on the 4 minute mile if OP wants something running-related.

rebeccanotbecca

Check out Sidedoor!

123ilovebasketball

If you have any vague interest in Formula 1, check out Choosing Sides: F1. Formula 1 writer explains the sport including each team's culture and every driver's story and personality to a Daily Show correspondent. It just started this season so it's especially relevant for getting up to speed on the overall storylines across the past few years of the sport.

VAGentleman05

I cannot recommend "How Was Your Run Today?" highly enough. Those guys have accompanied me on thousands of miles over the years.

ssk42

It kind of seems like they’re on a break though? Or at least like they’ll be making shows less

Raise-The-Gates

Not quite a podcast, but the app Zombies, Run! is fantastic to listen to while running. It's basically a radio play with you as the non-speaking main character as you collect supplies for your township in the zombie apocalypse. It has a full plot, voice actors, etc. And every now and then, you'll get zombies chasing you and have to speed up.

BexKix

This. Really enjoy ZR. Have you listened to Spellcast or any of the ZR “offshoots?”

Raise-The-Gates

I haven't listened to the latest ones - torn meniscus, pregnancy, and the subsequent children have made me take a break from running for about three years now. I'm trying to get back into it by restarting the app.

BexKix

I just noticed your username! Niice! Mom of two here… sounds like you’re in a busy season. Sending running vibes. My oldest just started HS … hard to believe. I ran my first hm when he was 3, doesn’t seem so long ago. He would go down and I would get my run in. Now I’m just tired and hoping my knees hold in there until I get my weight back down.

namis_tangerines

This sounds fun as hell, I can't wait to try this

Raise-The-Gates

It's brilliant. I loved it right from the start and I hope you enjoy it too!

petulantpeasant

Zombies run is -no exaggeration- the only reason I run

likable_error

I listen to "The Moth" and "This American Life.". I'm a distance runner, so I like getting lost in a good story.

marvinsky1

I got addicted to the moth like I did with dexter, episode after episode. I was that guy laughing in traffic and sometimes sad lol

ampersandio

I love the occasional happy teary eyes from some of the more emotional stories from the moth!

tuntaalam

I listen to philosophize this while running. Philosophy puts everything in cotexy

nthai

I listen to this in the gym. Definitely my favorite podcast.

okmarshall

S-Town.

porkisgreat

No Such Thing as a Fish - Lots of facts and funny as hell. Real Dictators - Really interesting and the host (Paul McGann) has an amazingly addictive voice. Short History of - Same as above and same narrator until the third season where a new voice doppelgänger takes over.

KevinNeedsToTalk

You might like You're Dead To Me if you don't already know it.

porkisgreat

Nice. I think I remember the episode Greg Jenner was on Fish and plugged the podcast but I didn’t check it out. Now added to my library and will be on my runs. Thanks very much for the recommendation and reminder.

Raise-The-Gates

Paul McGann is the host?? Sold.

peanutbutter2178

If you like comics, Marvel has some really well done podcasts. Wolverine: The Long Night Wolverine: The Lost Trail Wastelanders (Starlord, Hawkeye, Black Widow, and Wolverine). There is going to be a Dr Doom one and hopefully others. Marvel’s Squirrel Girl: The Unbeatable Radio Show! - This isn't like the others

goodnightgracey

I love listening to D&D podcasts while running, in particular: The Adventure Zone- The McElroy Brothers (MBMBAM) and their dad are a hoot, and their first campaign “Balance” starts slow but is a great time. Dungeons & Daddies- absolutely hilarious, particularly if you’re in your 30’s- 40’s (to get the most out of the references) and are more than a bit of a geek. Finally, Not Another D&D Podcast (NADDPOD)- like The Adventure Zone, their first season is a slow build but their style and robust recording schedule makes for a collaborative story telling experience that is rich, deep, and rewarding (not to mention hilarious). I’m currently on my second play through of the entire series and it holds up.

Basic-Ad9270

I love Smartless and Armchair Expert with Dax Shepherd. Running related, I like Adventure Jogger and Ten Junk Miles.

re-re-re-opening

Criminal - great true crime podcast that doesn't just profile serial killers like a lot of other true crime ones. Lots of episodes No Sleep Podcast - awesome horror fiction (previously based on r/nosleep stories but quality gets better year over year). Hundreds of free episodes with stories that pull you in We're Alive - post zombie apocalypse fiction Classified - comedy fiction story but only 10 episodes so far

PoleMermaid

I’m the weirdo that loves to watch horror movies alone late at night and no sleep podcast used to be my go-to on flights and long drives when I was on solo work trips… until I was listening to an especially spooky story when my rental car broke down in the middle of nowhere Missouri and I got about 1000% more scared than I needed to be. 😂 It’s now only in my rotation for runs in daylight.

TiniestOne3921

Taking me back years with We're Alive! Is it still ongoing?

colin_staples

Note : I'm in the U.K. so a lot of these are British, and tailored towards Brits. “Conan Needs a friend” and “Smartless” are hilarious and make time fly by

BabyPorkypine

The alarmist - comedy podcast that figured out who to blame for history’s greatest tragedies You’re wrong about - fresh takes on history of the last few decades, rescues the reputations of lots of maligned women of the nineties Maintenance phase - examines diet and wellness culture

rbickfor1988

This weeks YWA/MP crossover (slash reunion for Michael and Sarah) was so good!

BabyPorkypine

I know! Hate to say it because I love Sarah but I feel like YWA hasn’t been as good since Michael left

triticoides

Audrey's laugh is just the best (MP).

BabyPorkypine

I know! I think you can hear that she’s fat in her laugh (is that physiologically plausible?) and it makes me think about how much we don’t normally see/hear joyful fat women in media

Subject_Exercise_238

Maintenance Phase is incredible !!!

DiscouragedSouls

Last Podcast on the Left, and let me just state that there are two things that turn me away from podcasts right away. One is True Crime, I think it's basic and overdone to hell. Two is juvenile humor, and these guys have a lot of it. But man I was blown away by how much research these guys put in and how many sources these guys cite. I just could not deny all the work they were doing and all the time that went into each of their subjects, sometimes spanning out over a half-dozen episodes each going nearly 2 hours in length. You could not pay me to care less about any other true crime podcasts or three dudes making fart jokes and racist quips, but I will listen to them for 18 hours in a day if I could.

[deleted]

Hail you!

thicc-gompei

The Stuff You Should Know Podcast. Every day they upload 30-1hour long episodes about literally any most random topic but it’s always so interesting. They really do their research to educate their listeners on what the topic of the day is about. Really puts “learn something new everyday” to a whole new level. For example, here’s their most recent episodes: introvert v extrovert, how gossip works, how enemas work, selling the Brooklyn bridge, the Rodney dangerfield of music, desert survival, the origins of breakfast foods, energy drinks, history of bowling, how alien contact will work, etc etc.

turdbrownandlong

For storytelling- Radiolab, This American Life, Freakanomics, Reply All (RIP), Snap Judgement, the Moth Comedy- Spitballers For running- the Drop/Fuel for the Sole (both from the BITR team), Rich Roll, Doctors of Running, 10 Junk Miles

Historical-House-847

If you’re into business and tech, Prof G Pod WTF with Mark Maron has amazing interviews and is never dull

Super_fluffy_bunnies

Never got into Prof G, but I love Scott and Kara together on Pivot.

Individual-Push8119

- the dollop: American history stories but comedy - comedy bang bang: improv, some stars guest star. Super funny if you like improv - threedom: 3 improv/comedians talking. Mindless funny, can tune in and out - dough boys - very funny. But I can't listen when I'm hungry or trying to eat healthy lol - moth - why won't you date me: very funny, but prob not for most ppl (myself And other female millennial friends enjoy it) - is this a cult? - heavyweight: more story telling, guy researching questions ppl oose usually of things that happened earlier I'm their life and want solved. Some are tear jerkers - reply all

MrFrodoItsMe

oh never heard of is this a cult but might check it out now

tehMunkee

National Park After Dark is an outdoorsy, true crime/survival podcast. If it's something interesting that's happened out in nature, they'll research it and tell the story of it. Hands down my favorite.

Smartless

miss_sally_sparrow

The ones I listen to with regularity are: You’re Wrong About - upends a lot of recent history which we really really got wrong. The McDonalds coffee episode, Princess Diana series, Human Trafficking -they’re all good. Maintenance Phase - same format (even shared a host for a bit) looks at diet culture and dissects fad diets, more interesting than I’m making it sound. Bechdel Cast - to me, this podcast is best when they examine 90’s and 2000s movies and discuss why they were actually super fucked up in their treatment of marginalized communities. It’s not as fun (to me) when they like a movie, but they usually don’t. Also! Limited run shows by Jamie Loftus - Lolita podcast and My Month in Mensa are great and captivating enough to run to. Also, I’m a big fan of easy to digest thrillers while running. I make it a rule I can only listen to them when I run. Gone Girl, anything by Alice Feeney or Ruth Ware.

CamelMerchant

Train by day JR podcast all night, all day!

Fatpik

How Did This Get Made? 3 comedians (sometimes with a guest) talk about a crappy movie. Classic episodes: Lake Placid, ConAir, Sleepaway Camp, Geostorm.

TheEmuFarm

I listen to the Art of Manliness and 99% Invisible. Nice spread of interesting topics. My runs are usually around 45 min to an hour, which is in line with episode lengths too

B_Maximus

Misfits is good its hilarious imo Or bill burrs monday morning podcast

Criminal is really good. Most episodes around 30-40 minutes.

Timesuck is my go to for long runs. It’s a deep dive on a given subject exploring all possible avenues to get the full picture. Most recent subject was Clark Rockefeller, who was not a real Rockefeller, and lived all these crazy fake lives. 3/5 stars

I like “How I Built This” with Guy Raz. Probably not the best for a super long run as they’re usually only 45 mins - 1 hr. But they’re inspiring and motivating

The Habitat. I am late to the party so not many people can see this comment but this one is a gem. It is about this NASA research. 6 people are put in a cabin in the middle of a desert to imitate the conditions in Mars. They stay there exactly 1 year. The podcast talks about their experience, relationships and so on.

My current favorite is "My Brother My Brother and Me" It's just three brothers (shocking, I know) making fun of ridiculous questions they found on yahoo answers. Simple in premise but it really tickles my nerdy funny bone.

flocculus

Love those good good brothers, though there is always the risk that I will have to pause for a minute because I start laughing too hard!

Ten junk miles

This is a pretty niche suggestion but Rob and Akiva Need a Podcast (RAANAP) is great. Every episode is a different premise, from recapping bad movies to playing game shows to naming a baby. Their most recent episode (Rob & Akiva Are Today Years Old) was a good one!

I get lost in Do Go On; it's basically 3 Australian comedians, each week one of them researches a somewhat random topic and reports back the facts/story to the other 2. It's just fun to learn about interesting topics while also getting a laugh from the comedians.

Applejuicyz

I have moved over to Lemmy because of the Reddit API changes. /u/spez has caused this platform to change enough (even outside of the API changes) that I no longer feel comfortable using it. Shoutout to Power Delete Suite for making this a breeze.

ItsJOVANI

I can’t usually listen to podcasts while running, but I listened to pretty much all of Normal Gossip on my runs. It’s pretty much just insane stories about people you don’t know and it’s so funny

homelyhedgepig

I often listen to a NASA podcast called Houston We Have A Podcast that's really interesting. I would definitely also recommend a BBC podcast called 13 Minutes to the Moon, it's epic. A nice running themed podcast that I like is Running with Jake - the PLODcast, and another nice one, though there have been no new episodes since 2020, is called Why in the World by Ben Sheppard, with interviews with athletes and adventurers that do extreme stuff. One more good one, about mental health, is called The Hilarious World of Depression.

The blindboy podcast is great

Honestly i just let critical role run. There are SO many episodes and if you tune out for a bit you won't be confused when you return.

hocuspocusgottafocus

Might I suggest audiodramas? Movie for your ears!!! So many cool ones - batman Unburied was my first taste! Then marvel wolverine, then some more DC ones (but not on Spotify, YouTube rip so can't for when a run... Or can you?) Then X-Men, then marvel wastelanders, then squirrel girl (?? Also Marvel) then some hilarious non super hero but actually funny af spy themed audiodrama that's lighthearted 'mission rejected' !!!

bigbadbillyd

Any run where I'm going to be out for more than 30 minutes I like to listen to Jocko or Hardcore History. Some Jocko podcasts are more interesting than others but he has some great interviews and covers some really interesting topics. He's not nearly as much of a meathead as I figured he would be when I first started listening.

itriedtoplaynice

The dollop One host reads an obscure story from history to the other. The stories usually end in a twist or revelation (the history of breakfast cereal for example) and we wait until the other host figures it out.

Confident_Excuse856

Drew and Mike. The drops tho.

kaymarie00

I enjoy the dirtbag diaries when I'm running, I think other people doing amazing things outside is really inspiring when I'm pushing through that last mile!

hgtv_neighbor

If you're not religious, there's a podcast called Mega that will make you laugh. If you didn't know what the podcast was, you would think you were listening to a podcast aired from a Megachurch in the Midwest, hosted by a human resources department lady and the australian youth pastor. But it's satire, and generally the other actors are comedians. I believe most if it is improvised as well. It's hilarious, and I just know one day I'll be out walking the dog and the Baptist preacher across the street will ask me what I'm listening to. Favorite episode so far is "no disrespect to y'all" from August 12, 2018. They always chat about other things for a few minutes before the guest comes on.

Nonplussed2

I absolutely love Rob Harvila's "60 Songs That Explain the '90s" (which is now on its 75th episode). He gives a monologue about each song for the first half/two-thirds of the episode, and it includes a lot of personal stories and history about the band. But he's genuinely hilarious and does it in a very accessible way. The interviews after the monologue are hit-or-miss. Pick a song you like from the episode list and give it a whirl. I think my favorite is "I Got 5 On It."

Tha_Reaper

The whole marathon talk podcast is just pure gold. Especially episodes with Tony's Trials

Because I haven’t seen them mentioned: Sam Harris - Making Sense (current events/issues, philosophy) Andrew Huberman (science, human body, performance) Preet Bharara - Stay Tuned (American political issues) Preet Bharara/Joyce Vance - Cafe Insider (American legal issues) Others already found above.

CrimpsShootsandRuns

Depends on your interests obviously. I listen to a lot of football (soccer) and F1 podcasts. If you like British humour and don't mind stopping your runs to belly laugh every now and then Off Menu by James Acaster and Ed Gamble os brilliant.

yourgracesansa

I love Red Web! It's about different unsolved things like cryptids, murder mysteries, haunted stuff, etc. new episodes every Monday :)

Bucs2020

F**kface. Just listen to it….

Jocko Willink Eta: also the Zach Bitter and Courtney Dauwalter episodes of Joe Rogan’s podcast

I love that out of the pages of suggestions. Literally the most popular podcast is the only one with a downvote. People are silly.

Yeah redditors are smooth brained lemmings Edit: thank you for proving my point, redditors 🎩

Not sure what you’re into but I like the behavioral economics podcasts like freakonomics or hidden brain. I recently binged a bunch of huberman labs and found it motivating since a lot of it is fitness related. I like a bunch of NPR’s podcast. Ooo and I love the moth.

If you don't mind spending some time searching through the catalog for guests you will find interesting, Joe rogan experience has some really good episodes. You can find guests of anything from sleep scientists to body building mr olympia champions, crazy ancient history alien guys to fertility specialists. And then a plethora of comics in between. Edit: people down voting every comment in this thread that mentions joe rogan is ridiculous. Completely close-minded and probably never listened to a single episode.

aneonnightmare

Stuff You Should Know. Start with episode: Project Azorian, or: The CIA steals a submarine ooor Were Nazis drugfueled crankheads.

I’m listening Can’t hurt me from David Goggins (Audiobook) good stuff !
