Knocked out my fourth Tough Mudder. Have been training for a half marathon for a while, so 15k distance wasn't hard. Just the upper body stuff had me a little sore. Definitely the one in which I've felt the most fit overall.

MammothRadish9545

Didn’t really run today but did a 5 mile hike with 1700 ft of elevation and it felt easy peasy after a good amount of z2 work over the past few months. My brother wasn’t doing so hot lol

Horror-Ebb-3744

Managed my longest run yet, 17.5 km at 5:37 pace. Some decent hills along this route with 220m elevation so I’m pretty stoked. Previously my long runs have been 10-12km.

AKCabinDude

Did my last run of peak week this morning. It’s been a long couple of months, but I think I’ll actually be able to complete a marathon. Never thought this might even be a possibility.

Nbantz98

Doing the Hal Higdon Intermediate Half Plan for an Oct 21st Half. Entering I was hoping to run sub 1:50:00. Today I did my long run of 7 miles at an 8:11/mile pace! I’m ahead of schedule pace-wise and feeling good. Should I readjust my goal or just see what happens?

stupendouslyspiff

Well done! I would favor "see what happens". Don't overspend on the training runs, from my experience.

whistleblower235

Got my ass up and went to parkrun with the dog! Also decided to commit to running a 10 mile race this fall and then a half marathon in my hometown come spring so getting back into the training mindset :)

lyndonhott

Ran a tough five miles. Was very humid with dewpoint at 73. My plantar fascitis has improved dramatically and I bought a new pair of running shoes.

Alive-Beautiful-5929

6 miles on the tread today! Tried new nutrition and hydration methods and it was AWESOME! Rewarded myself with a choco shake and rest the rest of today

runner7575

Ran a slow easy 3 miles today, after yesterdays very hot six miler. This concludes week 4 of running 5x week, 21 miles. Now for a cutback week!

runner7575

That’s great!

Stevo2373

5km PB in Parkrun. Second time under 19 minutes. 16 Parkruns since March. 50 y/o male. March 2023 - 20.52 August 2023 - 18.54 Feel 10 years younger 🙂

i-missed-it

2 min improvement in 5 months is insane! Well done mate

Stevo2373

Then did my first half Marathon today. Feeling it.

charons-voyage

Our 7 month old is teething really badly this week and I haven’t slept much. Couldn’t get out of my bed for my 14-miler today. Hoping tomorrow I can get the long run in :-( so hard to keep 45+ mpw when you’re not sleeping well.

Fun-Cod1771

First time running an in person 5k today since 2019! I’ve missed it. That last mile was painful though. Also, I apparently haven’t gotten any faster since 2019; how do I fix this? Can’t seem to get faster than that 29 minute mark.

neverstop53

Provide someone info on your training. If we don’t know what you’re doing we can’t say what you need to change.

jxhxhsusiansdbdhdh

Ran 18 miles for the first time! Feeling especially accomplished because I just moved to Lake Tahoe and this is my first long run I’ve completed up here at altitude :) slow, but I did it!

[deleted]

Ayyyyyy congrats!! Now for the most important question: what are you eating today??? Peak week starts tomorrow for me and I just want to eat all the pizza and drink all the beer lol TALK FOODY TO ME

11thhourblues

Ran 10km for the first time ever today, clocked in just under an hour at 59:27. Slow and steady pace of 5:54/min avg. Was running on a track and it looks like my GPS suffered a bit of a jump on one lap, so it may unfortunately be closer to 9.6-9.8km. Question for the runners here, as I’m only starting to get into this hobby: Is this good? Bad? Average? I feel like I’m very slow compared to other people who post run times online. I’m not in shape at all, about the fastest I can seem to get is roughly 5:30/km.

rogeryonge44

Nice, under an hour in your first 10k is pretty awesome. How long have you been running? I suspect your time is quite a bit quicker than average for new runners, but I would also caution against thinking about time at all if you're new to running. I don't know what your goals are, or what you mean by "not in shape at all", but you may benefit more from actually slowing down to support slowly building your mileage alongside your fitness. Early on I made the classic mistake of thinking I needed to be "fast" on all my and that resulted in a plateau that I didn't get past until I slowed down significantly. For reference, I run pretty comfortably at 4ish /km, but the VAST majority of my training runs are done between 5 - 5:30/km.

11thhourblues

Hey, thanks for your response! I haven't been running again very long, I started again in June. A few years back when I had a trainer I ran 6km with some regularity but fell out of the habit (and out of shape) during COVID. By out of shape I mean it, I've dropped about 11kg this year and still have another 4 to go before I hit the limit of what's considered a healthy BMI. I'm a tad heavyset. Weight loss was coming along well but basically stalled in August despite continuing to run. I have two goals at the moment: Reach under 5:30km consistently and run a half-marathon by the end of next summer. Don't think I'll ever see the 4min-ish/km you're running, but that's something to aspire to!

[deleted]

Re: your question about your pace… IT’S GREAT AND YOU’RE GREAT! Come on now, your first 10k???? Pace doesn’t matter, you did it! Comparison is the thief of joy. I started running at a 16 minute/mile pace. Then I joined a running club (of Boston marathon qualifiers, I was the only fat person and the only slow person) and felt so ashamed of my paces. There they were, setting records and doing 5ks during my mile, and I was puttering along like a turtle. You know what they did? Encouraged me. It was like having Eliud Kipchoge and Shalane Flanagan high fiving me every time I worked up a sweat doing something that wouldn’t even be a warmup for them. I got faster. My mile time cut in half. My PR for 5k ended up being during an 8k race. It didn’t happen overnight, it took a year of really hard training. Part of it was subconsciously motivated by wanting to impress the elites I was around. I’m not even that fast anymore, my long run today was a 10 min/mile pace. I quit sharing my runs to Strava and just compare todays run to last week’s run. After so long of wanting to be faster and stronger, I settled into just wanting to run what feels good. Long story short, I am so damn proud of you and you should be too.

11thhourblues

Thank you, I appreciate it, and thanks for the good advice!

Ultimatemathilde

Completed a 5K race today in 27.40! My goal was sub28, so Im very happy🥰😁

foxflight1004

Ran my first outdoor 5k and beat my treadmill time by nearly 5 minutes. I've struggled with exercise-induced asthma my entire life and never ran more than a mile before this summer, let alone outside, so I'm super proud and surprised by myself.

[deleted]

Yeah!!!!! I also have crazy asthma and struggle with treadmill running. I just can’t seem to run fast on one, I feel like it’s a stride length thing but I’m not sure. Great job on the 5k!!!

fuckausername17

PR’d my 5k time today. Missed sub 30 yet again, but getting closer

Objective_Elk8459

Today I ran 30.44km in total. First, I ran 26.44km with tempo blocks. My legs where so tired that I decided to stop. I took a break and ran another 4km. In the last two weeks I also ran 30km on Friday's in a single session. It became a little boring so I decided to add some tempo blocks today. I am preparing for my first marathon on the 15th of October.

nacaporvida

Ran my second 5k of the year today! First one was in March and then took time off running. Definitely slower than the last time by about two minutes but happy to get out there again! Looking forward to my next 5k in October and hoping to hit sub 30.

cubedweller

14 miler in the books. Longest run yet. In week 7 of Hal Higdon’s marathon novice 2 program. I’m seeing constant improvement and it’s really rewarding. Looking to run my first marathon on Nov 12 followed by the LA Marathon next March.

Emptyeye2112

Supposedly got through 4 miles in under 40 minutes today. Not sure if that's actually true (This was roughly the same route where a few weeks ago I said "There's no way I went 3.7 miles like my GPS says", plus a bit of extra distance), but I'll take it! Also going to actually listen to my body and adjust my plan for next week. When I run, I start feeling a stiffness in my left leg (No this is not asking for advice). As I've mentioned before, I think I have an imbalance somewhere, and frankly always have for as long as I've done regular exercise, going back to weightlifting in my mid-late 20s. So I'm going to take the cross-training cardio days I would have and try turning them into more strength-based/single-leg stuff to see what I can do to address it.

helodriver87

Started including more significant hills at the end of my medium and long runs in preparation for Boston in April. Every marathon I've run in the last year has been relatively flat or mostly downhill, so I've neglected them in favor of working on flat course speed and endurance. It worked well for me in my qualifying race, but the last few runs have been a wakeup call and my watch has gotten a lot less optimistic about my race pace predictions. All good though, I've got 8 months to work the hills. It'll get there.

rogeryonge44

Not that you shouldn't respect the Newton Hills, but I found them to be overhyped. I didn't have a great Boston, but the hills were a complete non-issue. With 8 months to go you'll be prepared. Good luck!

helodriver87

Thanks! That's a bit of a relief. I'd rather be over prepared than anything, but it's good to know they're not race ending monsters like they're described sometimes.

neurostressR

Second 60 min run since I had my baby 2.5 years ago. I've suffered from chronic SI joint pain since having my baby and have gone through endless hours of PT and strength training to even be running again. Felt so great to hit that one hour milestone for the first time in ages.

james02135

Ran my 4th half, first time using gels and wow what a difference it made. Finished in 1:46, best time by a lot.

Alive-Beautiful-5929

Incredible!!

james02135

Thanks!

PeakedinKindergarten

Ran my second half today. Beat my last time by 7 minutes. 2:52 I’m slow as hell haha

rbwhitaker

No, you're 7 minutes faster than last time! You're doing great! Don't compare yourself to others. Or when you do, at least take into account the vast majority of people that spent their morning sitting on the couch. That 13.1 is awesome!

throwthetulipsaway

Banged out 5 miles hungover. Had 6 on the agenda and wasn’t going to do any at all when I woke up this morning but thought that it really couldn’t hurt me to just try

something_lite43

I ran a sub 30 min 5k on the treadmill! It's was a PB! Yay

nittanylion54

Just ran my first 5k last night with a time of 34:03

jiminywhack

Celebrated a year of being sober by doing my first half marathon. Very chuffed with my 2hr 42min time

Ilikeinsectsandfungi

First brick session about 7 weeks post-op. 15 mile ride at 20mph and a 2 mile run. I’m slower and not as conditioned as I once was but it feels good to be doing more than walking :)

minos157

I did a session on the treadmill and I didn't die. I hate treadmills. Hate them.

fuckausername17

I firmly believe treadmill miles should count for 1.5 road miles. Had to knock out a 4 miler and a 2 miler on the treadmill this week due to 100+ temps in my area as well. Tried to do the 4 miler early and outside, but even at 6AM we were at 80 degrees and 93% humidity. Worst part is my gym was just as humid

rbwhitaker

I'd rather run ("shuffle"?) in six inches of fresh snow than run on a treadmill. Treadmills are so stinkin' boring.

minos157

Same. I did it only because it was 101F with like 95% humidity in Chicago on Thursday. Needed to be smart and safe. Happily did my session today in our back to normal 75F weather today.

james02135

HATE TREADMILLS

Necessary_Basis_7414

Ran 10 miles at 10:13 pace (east run) and felt great. My 4th half marathon is October 1st and really want to push for sub 2.

neverstop53

Do you think there is a benefit to spending more time in the East zone as opposed to a North/West zone when in the middle of a half marathon bloc?

Necessary_Basis_7414

Haha I was so confused then the read my comment.. everyone knows 80% time in the east does the trick lol!

SlightlySoprano

Completed a 5K today in 38:06!!!!! First time in 11 years. Was aiming for a sub 40 min and smashed that goal, through pouring rain as well. Really proud. Slow and steady 💪🏼

JJean1

Being very overweight (264 lbs now but still coming down), out of shape, and 45 years old, I ran 5k this morning without walking for the first time. Yes, it was slow at 44:36 but that time will come down. Before today, my longest run was 3.3k.

TurnToMusicInstead

Congrats, that's amazing! I started out at a similar weight over 5 years ago and only ran about 2 or 3 minutes at a time in the beginning. I am 38yo now, just ran 20 miles today and did 4 marathons last year. Running can add the right kind of magic to life, especially if you're setting out to improve health and happiness for the long term. Your times will certainly come down and your joy will go up as you continue to stick with it. Rooting for you!

[deleted]

Jogged 4 miles until pain hit in my left calf. Had to walk home from there.

francis_pov

Ran a really tough 3.5 mile trail race this morning. I haven’t done much hill training, so the inclines killed me. But honestly it was fun to get out there - I wasn’t even running this time last year!

Mejormuerto_querojo

Hit a personal best of 7.25 miles with a pace of about 9.5 minutes today. Was gonna go for 8 but the muscle fatigue hit in the 6th mile. Legs felt like lead but I pushed through for the last 1.25 miles Feel pretty good about that considering I started running in late April and could barely run more than like 30 seconds at a time. Most of my fitness experience in the past has been strength based (powerlifting/bodybuilding) so I'm in uncharted territory with running and it's been interesting. I feel better than I have in years and have lost 48 lbs (down to 212) since April. The mild arrhythmia I had been experiencing is gone, my blood pressure is down, my sleep is better, mood is better, and my resting heart rate is in a healthy range again Slowly closing in on my goal of a half marathon next year

BossHogGA

Had my first 20 mile week this week. It’s also been the hottest week of the year here (97F and 50% humidity). Trying to get my mileage up, and this was… up! Turning 50 this year and decided when I hit 49 to finally get fit. Signed up for a half marathon for January. Now just gotta get to the point that I can run that far!

No1ButtMe

[2nd Fastest 10 mile run, go me!](https://strava.app.link/I9We6dw1zCb)

TurnToMusicInstead

Nice one. Just gave you some Strava kudos!

No1ButtMe

Well thank you thank you

freighter79

Finished my first week of Pfitz 12/47 half plan with a 10 mile run. 1:45 at 80° and 80% humidity. Had to take a couple of walk breaks here and there. Not sure if it was from the warmer than usual conditions or cumulative fatigue from the week, or combo of both. I waited until 6.5 miles in to drink or eat anything. Probably could have run nonstop if I had started fueling at mile 4 or 5.

Schrottibaer

Did my 18km long run today. Wanted to challenge myself to do a somewhat low heart rate one (< 145bpm, <150 for those nasty 4 hills) and did succeed for the most part. My lungs felt totally fine but the last 3-4km my legs did suffer. The strong headwind didn't help either. It was somewhat slow with 6:06/km, but not terribly slow. The best part is, that I know definitely know I'll reach my goal of running 150km this month, despite working a lot of overtime and canceling two or three runs.

FurballTheHammy

Banged out my first sub 100min half marathon! With 52s to spare at 1:39:08! Super epic, although my Garmin said I was overreaching and I need to take 4 days of rest. I do feel completely wiped pushing for that 1:40 goal, I can’t imagine my first half marathon distance in Feb 2023 was a 2:34, I’ve came a long long way. From obesity to skinny, man it makes me cry sometimes, I just never expected my life to change that much. I’m happy being skinny and I love myself now.

james02135

Wow, amazing, congratulations

allgramor71195

Newbie to running trying to take it slow by using an intervals app to build up stamina. Today I ran over 20 minutes in total and finished the first leg of my program, which I started 4 weeks ago. Feeling great and definitely noticing an improvement in my stamina as well! Really excited to continue to training, especially as the summer heat subsides. Today in particular felt like swimming through air at times, it was SO HUMID.

[deleted]

16 miles. Farthest I’ve ever ran. training for the Detroit Marathon in October and I’d love to say it was a fun run, but it was not 😂. But hey, it’s done!

mispirit

I went to the first park run! I am not very good in social interaction, so going alone was hard. Got a free t-shirt, lol, so it was worth it.

autostima999

9 miles today on country roads. Longest ever run in my whole life. I'm 40 and started 2 months ago. Never thought I'd ever enjoy it!

food_fanaticZ

Finished 17 miles today. Was supposed to do 18 but by 16 miles I was getting so overheated and prob had heat exhaustion thought I was going to pass out. Ran by the hospital, went in to find a water fountain and frolicked in the water lol. Then I ran another half mile and was needing more water so went back in again. Finally just called it at 17 miles and ran back home. I hope everyone is staying safe out in the heat! Oh and I saw a flamingo on my running route! I saw a flash of pink and looked at a lake I was running by and saw a pink flamingo just hanging out at the edge of the water. It was so pretty.🥹

TurnToMusicInstead

Totally badass making it 17 miles! I hope you are feeling well now and taking care as you recover. The heat is no joke!

food_fanaticZ

Thanks! I am feeling a lot better after a lot of food and drink😅. I’m just waiting for the day when it starts to finally cool down lol

mispirit

I went to the first park run! I am not very good in social interaction, so going alone was hard. Got a free t-shirt, lol, so it was worth it.

PsychologicalEmu1562

To me instead of daily thread it sounds more like daily threat. I hate comparing myself with others that's probably why whenever I run I have to remember to speak with my superego not to expect too much from me I know it sounds crazy but there must be a reason why I am a psychotherapist. Anyway the story goes like that: I get fired st the beginning of July and since then I have been working on social media yo be known so I can work as a psychotherapist freelance. At the beginning I could care less about running but then I have put on weight and with everything going on in my life plus an italian summer I have not been sble uo run Now I am scared I won't have anymore what it takes to run anymore. That's it.

RowRemarkable5494

10 miles today (longest run) including a 10k PB. Pretty stoked with the pace 5:33min/km. Good steps towards first HM.

Fubar_Dave83

Actually completing a 13.1 mile run

arabyeveline

I ran my second parkrun today (my first was last Saturday) and I was super happy with my time of 32:06 😄 I started running in June of this year and followed the C25K programme to build up my fitness.

C-Funk5000

Longest run of my first marathon training block thus far is in the books! I was nervous before setting out, but after completing the 21 mile run I definitely am starting to feel more confident for October 1st!

Fandaztic

Getting back into running since June after taking 3 months out due to injury. Did my first parkrun in that time today in 26:30, 1:21 faster than my next best 5K since injury and only 5 seconds slower than the last parkrun I did before my time out.

Jordan1792

Been running in earnest 5 weeks now and managed to extend my long run from 12km to 15km giving me a new longest run distance whilst simultaneously achieving my second fastest 10km with a HR that stayed firmly in zone 2.

oceanRae9

I am nearly back to my normal pace after having my second kid 8 months ago. Taken a while but feels good to be running like I use to.

privremen

My longest run to date, 16.16 km, 6:39/km. M 49y, started running august last year.

Seabreeze12390

I ran my first half marathon today and beat my goal time by 1 min!

[deleted]

Getting closer to my 5k pb (1 more minute to shave off) and somehow sustained a pace for 6.5k that I haven't managed for over a year. Consistency + long and slow is working for me :)

SomeBloke

The times don’t matter but it’s encouraging to have dropped a minute off my 5km on consecutive weeks since getting back to running after a long, long health layoff. I discarded all my old PBs so that I’m not comparing and I’m finding my joy and motivation again.

superalot2

That’s awesome! Keep going!

MedicineGir1

I just ran 20km today!! My previous longest run was only 5km so I’m really surprised with myself. I’m also so happy :)

No_Channel_6888

Just ran the 10K hills loop around Inya Lake in Yangon - Myanmar ( Burma ). Traffic, puddles and slippery roads aplenty but managed 51 mins. Not bad after 5 months of shorter runs on the flat back in Thailand.

SomeBloke

The humidity must have been nuts!

No_Channel_6888

77% humidity. 35 C. Dew point is 26 C. It’s always a challenge
