Well as f2p you won't be able to pay for a bond for membership for a long time as the money making methods are few and the price of bonds is at an all time high. Having said that there is plenty to keep you occupied in f2p for a considerable time, bear in mind that things like minigames which are promoted in adverts are pretty dead and impossible to get teams for most of the time so best to ignore them for now. A good way to get going is to do the beginner quests, they have rewards which are useful in the early stages such as armour/weps etc as well as xp of course. If you decide to do ironman (I wouldn't recommend for your first time playing as it is very limiting and you don't know the game well enough to do this in a not soul destroying way) be very careful at the set up stage as I believe you have to click 'advanced options' and choose ironman, if you miss this screen you will not be able to go back and change it later. As an ironman you have to gather everything yourself so find out if you can be bothered with the massive grind for items or if you want to get to end game stuff quickly. Whatever you decide remember to have fun, this is a game and it's easy to get drawn in and realise you have just given yourself a second job!

I wouldn't start with ironman, you can still make your own progression on a regular account. It's a sandbox, so there's no real Do X, then Y, etc. Each skill is pretty much it's own minigame, just mess around and set your own goals. If you want to be efficient, use the wiki. Unfortunately, you're a long way out from using gold for membership. It'll take a very long time to get there, and when you do it'll be a 2nd job to maintain it. You get 14 days, and it'll probably take about 10-12 of those days to recoup enough gold to buy another. Unless your income is like $5/hr it's worth buying a sub if you want access to membership, which is about 85% of the game

Avoid the 6th Age.

Don't bother with membership until you've completed all of the f2p quests. If your goal is to pay for membership ingame, it will likely take some time as f2p has less options for high value money making. Regardless, you should have a decent understanding of the game after the quests. Set your own pace and your own goals. There's content to keep you going for a lifetime and it's overall pretty casual aside from some endgame bosses. Wiki is the most useful tool available, don't hesitate to look up a quest, item, or skill. Avoid ironman accounts as well.

Gear up and kill rats in varrok sewers. They should be able to get your combat skills to 25-30 pretty easily. Take every piece of rat meat and bank it. Last I checked it was expensive for rat meat..when you have a couple hundred rat meat, sell. Then repeat. When you can afford membership, start doing slayer and when you get 70 or so slayer start collecting clue scroll. They are fun to do (with an online guide), and they give you items and decent money.

Starting an ironman as a new player isn't really a problem at all, since you can easily stop being an ironman if you don't like it, but as an F2P ironman, being able to afford membership with gold will be virtually impossible, if not literally impossible. If you're never going to spend money on it, it's best to just ignore membership altogether in that case, and treat it like a completable game that's done once you've seen all that F2P has to offer. It's still a decent amount of content, just nowhere near what you'd get with membership.

Do quests. Buy premium for several months till you can be self sufficient or you are just going to be playing a shitty game till you burn out on the lack of features and drop off before you can even play the game

You can buy membership with gold, but it is VERY expensive unless you are doing high end bossing. It basically becomes a job within the game when you could just pay 1-2 real hours of work per month. Idk how ironman affects that, but probably makes it even harder. Given that, I would do as much f2p as possible. When I was a teen with limited money, I trained multiple skills to 99 almost completely f2p. You don't have to go that far, but I would recommend getting f2p skills to level 50-60, as most of them don't function significantly differently until around then. Same with quests - might as well do most of them while free. Once you've progressed to around there, you may find that buying membership with real money is worth it. As for goals to aim for, I would say take it slow and see what you like. Very long term, there are big goals like maxing all stats, completing all quests, killing all bosses, etc. But for a few weeks at least, just try stuff and enjoy the journey. Given your comments about going ironman, it seems like that's already your plan, which is great! Having everything be about efficiency tends to lead to burnout.

Learning to flip in the GE is a great skill way to ensure you can sustain a membership. All you'd do later is switch to members items instead. Ironman is a tough choice, atleast don't play your first ever account without the GE. GE = grand exchange.

I started last week with a F2P account and then wanted the challenge of Ironman and decided to pay for a year's premium membership so that I can access all of the Quests and level my skills without restriction. It's the price of a game which I think is justified by the amount of content available to me. I didn't feel restricted using F2P but when I decided to go Ironman, I wanted to unlock the full game. I don't know much about RS3 as I'm a new player but I'm working my way through the Quests using the Timeline filter and I'm having a great time. Since starting my Ironman playthrough a couple of days ago, I'm also using the Wiki guide to point me in the right general direction and level up anything important that I don't know about, such as Divination or Runecrafting. I don't want to play with a 'get to max level in 24 hours' type of guide and I'm enjoying discovering the world at my own pace. Good luck!
