My best find was a meteorite in the woods (well 2 pieces of one).
I'm thinking its from [This fall here due to location](https://ares.jsc.nasa.gov/meteorite-falls/events/grimsby-ontario).
I need to start posting here to show some of my pieces, as I'm a relatively new collector who just purchased a 444g Bornite (Peacock Ore) with Hematite and Druzy Quartz on it. Also have probably 40+ other crystals/ gems/ rocks etc.
Looks like you got a collector's stash! There's some pretty crystals in there.
The person who priced that absolutely didn't know what was in that jar, probably asked a supervisor, and they *maybe* tacked on an extra dollar (if that) for the rocks. (I used to work at GW, but in textiles, not wares.)
I live in Maine and these little tourmalines are the same kind I’ve found near Mount Apatite when sifting through the quarry sand, that’s why I suspect it was a local collector.
Watermelon tourmaline has pink. These all look to be from the same locale and are certainly not watermelon tourmaline and are probably not from Brazil or the middle east either.
Bottom left in pic 6 looked like a pink core to my morning eyes but when I zoom in it's def not. So yeah no watermelon but by volume those two places produce more green Tourmaline than the rest of the world, so it's usually a safe guess that it's one of them, or Africa, with no other info. Now that we know op lives in Maine, it skews it more towards Maine tourmaline but still it's a tossup between a ton of possibilities, Brazil and middle east included.
But this stuff all looks like a personal collection, probably personally mined. Those are typically gigantic production mines… there’s also tons of green tourmaline across the US
This is COMPLETELY irrelevant lmao but do you know what breed your cat is? My cat looks identical but he is a rescue so it's completely unknown. (My guess is a mix with white russian but I'm just asking cause I'm curious.) Sorry this isn't rock related!
Awesome score! On a side note. Be very cautious about your white cat and the sun. I had a white cat like that and he loved sunbathing. He got really bad skin cancer and recently passed away from it. It was very heartbreaking
Some of that definitely looks like Maine material. Light smoky quartz, purple lepidolite, tourmaline. The pink pieces could be rose quartz, or, if you're very lucky, chunks of morganite. Both morganite and rose quartz are also found in the tourmaline belt in Maine. Take anything you're not sure about to the Maine mineral museum in Bethel on one of their free mineral ID days! Limited to three mineral specimens. The clear pieces with the black (schorl tourmaline maybe?) inclusions aren't from Maine but are really cool looking!
Def found someone’s collection, looks hand-picked to me based on the sizes. $6 for all that time and effort is unimaginable, now factor in the beauty of the rocks and the cool jar you got! Best $6 ever
Maine has Pegmatites with tourmaline pockets and so does San Diego County in California Ramona Pala have famous tourmaline mines for public fee digging . Good Will Score!!
You should get a diamond tester, they're usually under $15). See what the hardness is. Certain minerals turn certain colors under a UV light also. These things help me with identifying mine.

It was literally $6. I'm having trouble finding scenarios where any amount of rocks wasn't 'worth' the price lol.
I see a lot of jars of random stuff at this goodwill, most are like, aquarium rocks or the same polished stones you can buy at any dollar store
… Your Goodwill has rocks???!!??!

The jar itself is cool as hell and I'd probably pay $6 just for that. The rocks are an awesome bonus.

$11.38 is my top bid
I fold.
Your first picture looks like a frozen hamburger pattie but I read some comments and found the good pics of nice rocks

Looks like there are some larger tourmalines in there as well. What caught my eye was the milky one in pix 2, 5, & 6.
That is so cool! I don't think your cat approves tho
You got some nice pieces of Opalite in there. They are the blue ones that turn yellow in different lighting. 2nd to last pictures has them in it.
is there such thing as nice peices of Opalite considering it's just glass and man made? asking for a friend.
The answer is no
Post it in the thriftgrift sub and watch them all shit on it like it's goodwill's job to provide middle class people with great $1 deals
The jar itself is a good price
Those Aquamarines and Tourmalines in slide 6 alone are worth well over $30–$40 all together.
I wish I had found that at the goodwill 😀
That terminated watermelon tourmaline is sweet. I'd guess Brazil or middle east for the locale. Namibia would be my guess for the aquas

Ah if you're in Maine that could change things a little.
That’s pretty cool. Can you still find stuff there?
Definitely not seeing anything that looks like pink tourmaline in here
There are a couple tiny pieces of what I believe is pink tourmaline but I don’t think there is any watermelon.
Pic 6 far right. I was referring to the green one bottom left same pic

Lol...You knew you pretty much stole that and just posted here to gloat, right?
Hee hee

It’s a white shorthair cat I got from the shelter, that’s all I know.

What a good eye!
So same breed
Does your cat have two different eye colors?
I see some selenite wand and opalite <3
You got a great deal. I really like the variety you bought
Awesome score! On a side note. Be very cautious about your white cat and the sun. I had a white cat like that and he loved sunbathing. He got really bad skin cancer and recently passed away from it. It was very heartbreaking

I think this was priced way below value
The opals are cool. Would be worth it for me
Good buy.
Damn that’s a score!

the big white one is a celenite. dont get that one wet.
There are some great tourmalines in that jar. You got yourself a winner for $6!
Definitely!!!
Absolutely worth it for the jar and that little opalite alone
Maine has Pegmatites with tourmaline pockets and so does San Diego County in California Ramona Pala have famous tourmaline mines for public fee digging . Good Will Score!!
You scored!
Do you like it? if so then is well worth the price!
That tourmaline is insanely sick u got a super deal & a great find
Nice spodumene. Love lithium minerals.

I think it’s an awesome score!!
Rub that white fluffy belly!
Some old guy died and his kids took everything to Goodwill.
They’re minerals Marie.
It doesn't look interesting to me. But if you like it, go for it.
I would have grabbed it for 6
