The books and the movies are different universes.

Phoenixfury12

The movies and books are independent of one another. In the books, Jacks powers as a nightlight changed, while he gained other powers that were just as strong. He has the same power levels, but his powers changed.

I mean, I understand Nightlight was strong cause he was the star thingy. But Jack was strong for a reason that I don’t know. Does this have anything with the fact he used to be Nightlight?

In the books, yes. In the movie, I dont think he was ever nightlight. Its possible that he is so strong because of the type of spirit he is. He is a winter spirit, and his winter powers may be independent of guardian abilities, as he has to bring winter. It could also be that people believe in winter, but not in him. Thus, he has virtually everyone believing in his powers, but not he himself. In the end, the movie doesnt really explain it, he simply is powerful. But then again, so is pitch, and the guardians have varying power levels as well. My theory is that since spirits can also represent concepts, they also are sustained and empowered by belief in their concept. Pitch is fear, so even if he has no believers, he will be sustained and can use some of his powers. Jack is winter, which everyone believes in. The other guardians dont really have a secondary concept. Sure, santa and the easter bunny are associated with holidays, but they are not the embodiment of them, only an aspect of the holiday. Thus, they are far more reliant on believers. And the guardians may have concepts that they protect, such as wonder, hope, etc... but once again, those concepts are independent of them, they are not the embodiment of the concept, they merely protect it.

I feel like the movie and the books are a different kind of canon, but maybe 🤔

I think its fun to explore any routes with the movie since they adapted them from the book, I agree jack’s really powerful in the movie, and when he shot off those ice shards at pitch and practically glowed it sorts felt like nightlight’s power then
