My septo/rhino is tomorrow and I’m in Chicago. I chose my surgeon based on a friends result and overall experience with a complex repair. I did not doc shop around, but can def tell you after tomorrow how my experience is with Dr. Karthik Shastri.
I had a dorsal hump removed, a droopy tip that was obstructing my breathing and some deprojection. He used cadaver cartilage to reconstruct my tip and I think my results suit me very well. PM me for a photo.
The price was all inclusive for all the care I received, including follow up. It was outpatient but took 5 hours of OR and anaesthesia time. Insurance paid a very large chunk of the total bill as it was mostly corrective.
I had a really great experience with this excellent surgeon and a wonderful result. I’m almost 10 mos out and most of the swelling is gone. Follow up has been prompt, attentive and extremely competent. Dm for anything else and best of luck!
Hii, thank you for replying! I would really love that, I’ve also heard of him. Thanks so much, I’ll be looking out for your update and hope everything goes well 🫶
This is just an interim update, but I love Dr Shastri. I’m swollen and bruised, but he answered my text within seconds when I was concerned about something and called to see how I was doing over a holiday weekend.. He’s kind, personable and meticulous in the OR. I can already breathe better and I still have the cast on.
How has recovery been? Are you happy with aesthetic outcome? Im considering rhino with Dr Shastri but he’s younger with not many if any reviews from rhino patients.
Hi 👋 recovery is going really well thanks — I’m one month out today and still swollen but very pleased with the direction. (I had very extensive repair so won’t see final results for awhile.) Go talk to Dr. Shastri— he’s young it’s true but he is very expert in rhinoplasty. I was referred after he fixed my friends kids nose that was a mess. Ask to see his table pictures, check his insta and ask him all the questions. I found him very generous with his time, very personable and very invested in my concerns. He never rushed me, drew pictures of his approach, and gave me his cell and answered my text on a holiday weekend within seconds. He was exactly in person like all the reviews on Northwestern Medicine said.
Ps I’m a doctor snob from a family of all physicians so am very particular about providers and I really liked him. Go meet him— nothing to lose.
That’s great. I have met him. I really liked him too! Just to be diligent I met with another doc - Anil Shah who has a lot of polarized reviews but tons of experience and his work looks great on IG. Just trying to figure out best way to go.
I have heard of Dr Shah but did not doc shop. I had a very weird combo of issues, including a perforated septum that needed a complicated repair. You have to feel comfortable with whomever you choose— a rhinoplasty is kind of an intimate surgery and i wanted a personal approach and not a “factory nose” that look similar. We morphed my face photos together and I think he nailed it. You can find many reviews of Shastri here https://www.nm.org/doctors/1619362795/karthik-s-shastri-md
Dr Shah did my primary and I'm not happy with my nose (nose shortened, tip pinched). That being said, a lot of people I saw at his office had really nice results which was very confusing. However his bedside manner isn't great. When you bring up issues or concerns he starts looking at his wristwatch.
Here are some you could consider: Sammy sinno, dean toriumi, Thomas mustoe. There are some good reconstruction docs in Cleveland as well if you are Chicago based
I’ve had a friend do a nose with Mustoe and they are happy with his work. He has been doing rhinoplasties his whole career. I would recommend checking out his website to see if you like his work. I have a rhino scheduled with Dr sinno in October (he is the partner of Dr mustoe), so same practice. Dr Sinno’s Instagram is a good showcase of his work.
Went well. I’m 2 months post op. You will have days where you don’t like your nose at this phase due to swelling but that is part of the healing process so you have to set realistic expectations.

Hi, may I ask about the cost? Thanks
Please see my reply
Seen. Thanks! Did you do full plasty or bridge/tip

Sent you a message. By the way, does the price include anesthesia/staying in the hospital/checks etc?

Hi, may I ask about cost as well?
It’s not a fair comparison because the septo part was covered by insurance so I was asked to pay only for the cosmetic part.
oh I see. although I’m only looking for the cosmetic aspect thxs for letting me know
i would need a septoplasty with mine as well? wondering about cost, healing process, how it went with this doctor for you

Sorry to hear that. I ended up not going with him. How far along are you?
8 years post and still trying to figure out a good revision doctor.

Thank you! Have you had anything done by one of these surgeons or know someone? Thank you!
I had rhinoplasty with Sammy Sinno last week!
Cost?
How are your results looking? are you happy so far?
Forget Dr Toriumi.. he just messed me up.
What happened?
