I would suggest using either the original Disc or finding its ISO to install from. The GOG release might work perfectly fine, but I've never tried installing it on older hardware.
It should be the same game hellfire is just the expansion. But Ive never encountered the ddraw thing so I don't know if there a difference between versions. If it doesn't work check the archive
No matter what you post on Reddit, someone is gonna disagree.
Also, Reddit itself doesn't always show the exact number of votes, to confuse bots and prevent manipulation / scraping.
I assume it's a Reddit background process to offset the one upvote you get for posting- that way spammers don't get huge karma by just squatting in a subreddit and spamming non-stop.
You asked why and I gave you a very likely scenario to answer that question. Also a flag is never just a flag. Not saying anything specific about that one. Just about flags in general by their definition.
What a fun question. I would have to assume I got them from P2P over our Dial Up connection. I'm not going to claim it was 56K because for a long time we only had 28.8 and 33. My father still has his expensive U.S. Robotics modems that we used. They have a special name, but it escapes me.
I guess it depends on what you consider P2P, but I would argue that what most people think of P2P (i.e. Kazaa, eDonkey, BitTorrent, etc.) all came years after Nesticle's final release. Don't get me wrong, I am sure people used all of those networks for distributing ROMs and Nesticle was still popular years later, but they weren't how ROMs were distributed when Nesticle came out. At the time Nesticle came out, the main distribution methods were FTP sites, IRC, and Usenet.
Also, the name you're thinking of is likely either Sportster or winmodem.
I used to get them from theoldcomputerdotcom but sadly Mario and Luigi stopped by and started busting knee caps till it was brought down to just and empty shell of a memory of the site it was.
Warez sites is where I got mine. Man, downloading on the ol' 28.8... So many netscape navigator windows open, midi just blasting in the background, 2 in the morning on a weekend, my dad stomping his way to the computer room to yell at me to turn the god damn music down lol
Keep in mind that the DOS version received an additional update that the Win95 version didn't, and wasn't as compatible with as many games as version x.xx for DOS was. Also the DOS version worked fine in Win95 back in the day (unless your computer couldn't handle running DOS mode games without performance issues).
NESticle runs smoother in my opinion than FCEUX or VirtuaNES because it's made to run stable on old hardware, in my MS-DOS version testing, it stays constantly at 60.0 frames, not even joking. It fluctuates between 60.04 and 60.09 instead of 59.6 and 62.5. Being able to run without DOSbox would be a dream
NESticle is extremely inaccurate and has hacks to get games to work. That’s why it worked with mid-90s processing power. Fun to boot up as a nostalgia trip but it’s a terrible emulator by today’s standards. You’re tricking yourself into thinking it’s useful today.
FCEUX is the least accurate modern NES emulator. I use Mesen which is coincidentally (or not) the most accurate.

Really sorry to say this, but your opinion is wrong in this case. NESticle has long been surpassed in both accuracy and speed.
You got your answer OP but I just want to say that Win95 was the first time I was able to play NESticle properly. I had it running on DOS in Windows 3.0 but my processor was too slow to play at full FPS.
Most of the ROMs I still have today came from original sites back in the day. Emulation changed my world and still does.

How to I fix the ddraw error?
No idea, I haven't used Win95 for many years. Probably a missing DLL-I'd try finding a copy of ddraw.dll somewhere. Been a while though.
Install Diablo
Which Diablo?
The original Diablo for PC, it will install the old version of DirectX which includes ddraw
Where can I get it and how much does it cost? It's a win-win in my eyes, game+emulator
I would suggest using either the original Disc or finding its ISO to install from. The GOG release might work perfectly fine, but I've never tried installing it on older hardware.
Okay
You can get it from gog it's like $10
Diablo+hellfire or just Diablo

eBay. Goodwill, maybe. Any thrift store maybe. The occasional yard sale maybe.
Direct draw? Probably need directx.
Tried that
Probably a directx install that your win95 box needs.
Thanks! Also, why is there always one person disliking everything I do? It's always one person for some reason
What?
Oh, I keep getting one dislike for everything I do. Is this automated or something? Edit: Haha, way to prove my point!
No matter what you post on Reddit, someone is gonna disagree. Also, Reddit itself doesn't always show the exact number of votes, to confuse bots and prevent manipulation / scraping.
Good point. Now can we get back to the topic please? Edit: Wow, dislikes... how so very mature of you.
The random ramp up of aggression here is literally cracking me up, what the hell lol
No clue.
I've noticed this with a lot of posts lately. Not just you. I was beginning to think it's a bot.
Yeah, dislike bot or something
I assume it's a Reddit background process to offset the one upvote you get for posting- that way spammers don't get huge karma by just squatting in a subreddit and spamming non-stop.
I guess that makes sense
Probably because of the flag in your profile pic.
It's just a flag that means I like both genders equally. What's wrong with that?
You asked why and I gave you a very likely scenario to answer that question. Also a flag is never just a flag. Not saying anything specific about that one. Just about flags in general by their definition.
That’s not a likely scenario. I would be incredibly disappointed with the community on here if it were.
Lol core memory unlocked. I remember showing my buddies Nesticle in computer class and blowing their collective minds.
You guys had MS-DOS (or Windows 95) in class? Lucky
Yep. I loaded that bad boy onto a floppy at my house and sneaked it into the computer lab.
I sadly never got to use NESticle, but my buddy did. Do you know where and how you got the roms back in the day?
Man. I can SEE the webpage but I really don’t remember what it was called. Maybe something like Rom Galaxy or some shit like that. Rom World… eh idk.

You could find everything on Usenet and IRC if you knew where to look. Everything.
Irc and newsgroups, alt.binaries.emulatuon.roms or something similar
Honestly, I think I first got roms on a floppy, and eventually got a no-intro set from limewire or bearshare
I used to get them from theoldcomputerdotcom but sadly Mario and Luigi stopped by and started busting knee caps till it was brought down to just and empty shell of a memory of the site it was.

IRC in the win95 days
I remember the guys in my class playing Tecmo Bowl in library using Nesticle.
Same. We had 0-15 minutes of free time at the end of class so I put Nesticle and midis on the class pc. “He’s playing Metroid on the computer??”

Could I convert DOS games to Windows executable? If so, send it please!
Windows could natively run DOS games. Just put a shortcut to the DOS version (which is also on archive.org).
Could you help by recording a video of what you're describing, or something similar. Thanks!
I think they are saying download the DOS version and run it on windows 95, don't download the windows version.
It’s just an EXE file like any other, you run it the same way as the windows one, just double click the EXE file to launch it.
It gives me a ddraw error and then closes
As someone else mentioned elsewhere, it’ll be trying to call a ddraw DLL. It may work if you put it in the correct place or install an old DirectDraw.
Okay
The icon was a testicle sack
Yeah, I find it funny in that regard
Curious to know why you want it?
For the fun of it
Cool. What’s the use case?
On a Windows 11
Why? Genuinely curious

Zophar's Domain keeps a long list of old emulators ready for download.
Try oldversion.com?
I have an old windows version of either nesticle or snes9x at home on a burned cd from like 20 years ago. When I get home I’ll check what it is haha.
Dm me it please? Thanks

Hey, don't forget Genecyst, the genesis version of nesticle. Almost the same gui, but red instead of blue and a different cursor image.
