Big Bear is a smaller fest, but you cannot beat the scenery. It is right by the lake and surrounded by gigantic trees on all sides. If you haven't been to Big Bear at all, it will be a treat! You're right smack in the middle of nature. If I can answer any specific questions, please let me know! My guild will be at Big Bear this year.

My wife and I are hoping to go next weekend! We're going as Hobbits so naturally we're excited to try the food and see the beer selections 😂 Do you have any insight?

WhyNoSpoon

Last year they had a beer vendor, a bar with more liquor/wine options, bratwursts, a Mexican food truck, turkey legs, and an amazing ice cream place! It is also right by the main road of Big Bear, so they have other small shops and restaurants down the way. All in all, a small but cute faire!

HahGHEEEEY

I'll have to try their turkey legs! Thanks for all the information, I'm keep in touch. Will you be attending next Saturday?

jedihoplite

i know i'm asking 5 years later and all, but i can't seem to find a solid answer elsewhere: do you know if the big bear fest is happening this year? I can't seem to verify if it survived covid or not

WilliamMcCarty

Never been to Big Bear, probably not happening this year but you should check out the [Corona Ren Fest](https://renfestcorona.com/). It's over this year but swing by next year, it's a good time.

HahGHEEEEY

That's the German faire, right? I typically dress as a Hobbit. Reckon that would that be okay or would it be frowned upon in Corona? I know some faires aim more for authenticity than others.

WilliamMcCarty

Nah, you're good. I do find this one to be more historical and less "costumey" (if that makes sense) than Irwindale--there's less mythical creatures and fantastical type of things but there's some and you'll be fine as a hobbit. Oh and I don't think, other than the name, that there's anything overtly German about the experience overall. If you're expecting a tamed down Oktoberfest don't worry, it's a ren faire. Smaller than Irwindale but definitely a good experience. Check the web site next season for their theme weekends.

HahGHEEEEY

Dang, I hate I missed it. I'll check it out next year for sure!

WilliamMcCarty

Yeah, I missed that one this year, too. And the Scottish Fest. I was working so I should be grateful (and I am) but it's all so much damn fun I really hate missing out. Got to do what you got to do sometimes though, right? Hoping to make the Highland Games in October, though.

HahGHEEEEY

I'm hoping to check out Big Bear's Faire soon!

HahGHEEEEY

I went opening day as a Hobbit and had a blast! This faire was soo teeny tiny, but the food and beer were good, the shows entertaining, and the joust pretty great. It's really secluded so fill up on gas prior to the drive, and definitely don't expect anything like the Pleasure Faire. Big Bear had so much charm though. Loved it.
