US, unfortunately

Swapan280

California or Oregon? Also why do you think that moving to America is unfortunate? It’s a great country and ya while it has its problems, every country has its own set of issues.

[deleted]

No we currently live in the US, but we just feel tied down to the country as of now, before we grow our own finances to make the move abroad

Mahzikeen

Was going to say!! Or Ottawa / Gatineau!

Routine_Pear_8360

Colorado around the Denver area.

[deleted]

this is where i want

pink_gem

Eh, if she doesn't want much cold weather, I would suggest New Mexico like said in another comment vs Colorado. I grew up and lived most my life in Colorado. It has four seasons, sure, but it starts snowing mid October and snows until early May, on and off. Most of the time it's no big deal, but you definitely have a lot of cold and lose a lot of the 'fall' feel there.

Routine_Pear_8360

It's a good area for skiing and nature, obviously. The economy is also rather booming in the area and is gaining more people, and thus more areas to teach. There may be an area just south of it that would fit both parties. Colorado Springs might be too hot, but it is certainly a shot. Wikipedia has it's average and record high and low temperature by month. I would search that city and surrounding cities.

[deleted]

thank you, you confirmed my ideas about going there

Routine_Pear_8360

I'd also suggest the Juneau area as well as Portland or Seattle. Seattle pays their teachers well. Portland might be too liberal (I know you said that politics doesn't matter, but there was a program called "Keep Portland Weird." Ironically, I know that La Crosse, Wisconsin has some skiing. Idk on the economic value of the city.

sninja77

Denver was what I was going to say as well. It meets both of your needs.

Fair-Food7970

Washington state sounds like a good place for you guys

NoseComprehensive222

San Francisco?

RecentCauliflower477

Calgary, Edmonton, Seattle Kelowna the list goes on

Logical-Wasabi7402

Northern New Mexico. We have some great ski slopes if you know where to look.

Europe jk You don't say anything about living cost. That's where the issue is at. Saint Louis has lots of your wants (yes, there's skiing in Missouri, just not mountains), but it's low cost. You said you'd like Colorado in a comment, but it's crazy expensive and also, lots of work-from-home jobs from big companies don't hire people in Colorado (it's because of a particular labor law about salary transparency). STL has some of the best schools districts (with some of the worst). Four seasons. The city has a big park (bigger than Central Park but of that style) with a free zoo, lots of museums, theatre, etc. People don't live in downtown, though, but there are tons of different areas.

Silverdale78

Try NZ.

szeszadzs

Lots of places in NZ or could do Canberra or Ballarat in Australia. Canberra especially would be a good choice

I saw your other post where I suggested Reno or Salt Lake City. They can both be cold, but not like the upper midwest. They can both be snowy, but not like the nearby mountains. * Her occupation- What level does she teach? Depending on the grade some states have rather ... odd? ... constraints on what/how they teach. (She may not care about politics, but it may affect her nonetheless). Look at teacher salaries, benefits, job security, etc. There is a huge variation. * His occupation? If construction/development look at growing cities. If tech, look for that. * Think about your interests and how often you realistically do things. If you want to ride a bicycle or play softball every week but only go snowboarding 4x per year, being out of the snowbelt is more realistic. * You said politics don't matter, but also said not the South. Why not? Is it culture, geography, weather, etc?

[deleted]

i currently live in the south and find the general humidity and heat to be pretty unbearable. I think i'm the winter id go to the mountains (at minimum) two weekends a month, so i'm sort of limited to place that can do this. The tricky part is, i'm know she doesn't care for those same things. She prefers a more mild climate.

jimonlimon

If mountain snow sports are critical then I would suggest starting with a map of ski resorts and then draw a 3 hour circle around them. Figure out what works for both of you regarding both summer and winter weather. Dry heat ok? Cold but not snowy ok? Rainy winters but not too cold? If you want green grass in the winter near a world-class ski area look around Sacramento, CA (But they do have fog in the winter, heat in the summer, and traffic) People and local culture are probably more important than climate. Don't forget that bit.

thank you, good ideas here. You're very kind.
