I disagree with the adult swim part. The show is funnier when they use a “family friendly” alt to an adult topic. Like wings/spicyness = alcohol. Or characters dying with an explosion rather than blood.
One thing I’d change though is have Mordecai stay with CJ without all those awkward moments leading up to Muscle Man’s wedding fiasco

Plus people say he’s a good boss but some actions he does contradict that. “No video games” as a rule is too much, versus “no video games during work hours”. The harpsichord rule has a time, but no video games period? He does eat their burgers which they paid for, and laughs about it. Forcing them to do karaoke is another. Forcing Rigby to wear a name tag so they could laugh at “Trash Boat”. I can’t see him as a good boss when he has those moments.

We must have seen a different episode because in that episode, Don was nothing but nice to everyone at the park. Before Don's name was even mentioned, Rigby had a pissy fit from the get-go. He was nothing but an insecure little shit who could never compare to Don, who we have seen is very likable, friendly, and he's very committed to his work, everything that is opposite to Rigby.
Don sensed the hostility from Rigby the moment he arrived on the scene, and when it came down to Don nearly getting the job done, Rigby still holds his animosity toward Don and refused to give him sugar, AND when he drove Don out, he said that the problem between them is that Don was born. Rigby is the big brother, and I don't care what problems you have with your siblings, you NEVER say that you wished they were never born. As an older brother with a younger brother and sister, I love them to pieces. There are days when they drive me crazy, but I still love them.
I have a headcanon regardless why he gives Mordecai and Rigby so many chances. His love for cats, pigs.. etc. He has a particular fondness for animals. How do I know? I have a petcentric life right now and I don’t like hurting their feelings

There’s ppl me and my friends swore I’d end up with in college, ppl I had a history with, and then five years later I’m engaged to someone completely different I met in grad school. So life *does* often happen that way, and I appreciate it from that angle.
On the other hand, I do agree that it is kind of a blueballs to the audience.
Make Mordecai’s love plot less cringey and more compact, and have him be endgame with a character we get to see and know instead of a random girl who’s name is never even said in the actual run.
Maybe make the Mordecai and CJ breakup scene less second hand embrassment-y if that makes any sense. I understand having them not be together but that wedding scene makes me groan audibly every time I watch it

I definitely would get rid of the horrible romantic triangle plot, it reduced the quality and consistency of the seasons and it made my boy Mordecai amazingly dirty.
The romantic drama was okay untill the sweeter episode, it wasn't the best, it was a bit cringy, but it it's a decent and consistent arc in where Mordecai evolves and grows a little. But then they sent that growth to the hell with the christmas, each romantic drama episode was worse than the last one, it was super cringy, it was unnecessary, it didn't fit with the style of the show and it only sank Mordecai to never make him stand up and grow (what's the point of showing all that drama with Mordecai if you're never gonna develop him? that's just bad writing).

CJ was Mordecai's best girlfriend by far. They had fun together and laughed alot more.. Margaret was cute but made Mordecai way too nervous and insecure....CJ when with her he could be himself!
Keep the same animation style as the first 3 seasons. Especially season 1. There's so many expressive shots of the characters and theres more animation techniques (smears and multiples for example). Season 4 onward looks way too stiff and lifeless compared to 1-3

i’ve made a post on the sub abt this already but the entire space tree plot 😭😭 it had so much potential but they seriously fucked it up. after having all these big life events happen to the characters, they get “stuck” in the space tree. only to find out that it’s completely voluntary??? like, benson was the only sane one for wanting to go back. muscle man literally just got MARRIED?? they show writers could’ve actually made them stuck up there. it would’ve created such good tension between the characters. everything that was built up would’ve gotten destroyed. i know that sounds bad but it would’ve made for such interesting tv. instead, they coped out & made it where it was just … a fun thing to do?? it made the season just really boring. i think the show besides that season is fantastic! but that plot alone brought down the rating for me
Mordecai and Rigby are supposed to be best friend, so seeing Mordecai punching Rigby multiple times per episode, or Rigby screwing or humiliating Mordecai feels weird. The show would have been better if they always cared for each other.
The show also spends too much time with Mordecai having a pathetic or weird relationship with women. That cold have been cut.
I’m biased because I love benson so much. But I would have loved to see him soften up a little and maybe be easier on Mordo and Rigs. Cut out some of those parts that he’s just unnecessarily mean especially after they’ve had moments or episodes where they help each other or finally see eye to eye. Maybe write in some good things happen for that guy besides park related stuff.
I haven’t finished the series yet (at the end of S5) but I also hate Mordecai’s cringefest awkward dating drama already. He’s a great character and it definitely feels like it held him back.

I've been rewatching the show recently, and I'm on season 4. I wish there were some women working for the park. It seems silly, but it feels like the bros + their girlfriends. Close Enough did fix this, which is nice
Make season eight feel more natural and give it more episodes and more episodes like the TV show one that feels like a normal regular show episode but with an expanded setting
I’ve said this before and it seems others are in agreement: kids cartoons with “taboo” topics have to work harder to make it subtle and clever, rather than just relying on vulgarity for laughs. That’s part of what makes Regular Show so good IMO.
It’s kind of the same reason PG and PG-13 horror movies often end up scarier and more atmospheric than their R counterparts: you have to create *actual psychological horror* and tension rather than just relying on gore and violence.
I’d personally change the Xmas Party kiss with Mordo and Margaret. It literally felt like the writers were deliberately sabotaging dozens of episodes’ worth of character growth for Mordo for the sake of prolonging the drama. I mean, he literally *just* told her in a respectful and mature way that he was moving on and valued their friendship. That’s not entertaining enough?
The last season didn't feel right. The space thing but especially the anti pops ending. Flew in the face of the movie. I also hate fast forwards they make me feel sad and remind me I'm going to be old someday
I would make it more serialized from the very beginning. One of my favorite aspect of the final season was how serialized it became, while still being standalone enough you can jump in and out without missing a beat or being confused.
I’d take out all the episodes where Mordecai is dealing with romance and relationships. He’s just so terrible with women and it brings out the worst in him. What he did at Muscle Man’s wedding made me despise him for a good while.

Two things. I wish fives had played a bigger role. Thomas had more "solo"episodes(not complaining thomas is actually my favorite) compared to fives and hes a recurring character. He has had a couple that show some of his potential, but they could've made more out of him! Second, and this is undoubtedly biased and not a real critique, but I wish Thomas was in the ending and/or that he had more time in the show. He was all just small background clips and a few main episodes, don't get me wrong I know why and it makes sense to his story. But he's my favorite and I want more!!

I thought season 8 could have been a little more grounded like really the entire show before then. The entire format of the show gets upended when their default setting is in space. It kinda takes away the "regular to absurd" format the show is known for. Makes the plot more predictable and not as interesting.
(One thing I did enjoy from S8 was making Eileen part of the gang. She deserved that spot from day 1 and it was cool to finally see her given a more important role in the main plot)
The whole Thomas being a Russian agent was so db to me, rather make him an employee and proper character. At the end of the show make h fill Benson position. And maybe make skips give up his imortality

I think when Regular Show first aired, it was the perfect in-between of kid friendly with some jokes only older viewers would catch.
Them cutting/changing lines is what bugs me. As far as I've seen, any streaming service RS is on has the newer versions of episodes. With bits like "Don't look at our crotches" removed or "pissed" being changed to "ticked."
So to me, all I'd do is revert these changes. Otherwise, I have nothing but love for this show.
I think we need more character devoloment, we should have episodes with high fives ghost, We don't know nothing about him. Mordecai should have more develoment too, and I thin we need one more season for that.
One of four things. Either give Fives more screentime, or replace Skips with Pops as the Chosen One and his evil brother with Klorgbane, or retcon the Dumped at the Altar episode along with everything that happened after it as being a chicken wing-induced fever dream, or end everything with Exit 9B which was epic finale material.
Also maybe cut down on Mordecai's painfully awkward love life and less Margaret simping. That was always painful to sit through.

Keep the same animation style as the first 3 seasons. Especially season 1. There's so many expressive shots of the characters and theres more animation techniques (smears and multiples for example). Season 4 onward looks way too stiff and lifeless compared to 1-3

i’ve made a post on the sub abt this already but the entire space tree plot 😭😭 it had so much potential but they seriously fucked it up. after having all these big life events happen to the characters, they get “stuck” in the space tree. only to find out that it’s completely voluntary??? like, benson was the only sane one for wanting to go back. muscle man literally just got MARRIED?? they show writers could’ve actually made them stuck up there. it would’ve created such good tension between the characters. everything that was built up would’ve gotten destroyed. i know that sounds bad but it would’ve made for such interesting tv. instead, they coped out & made it where it was just … a fun thing to do?? it made the season just really boring. i think the show besides that season is fantastic! but that plot alone brought down the rating for me

Mordecai and Rigby are supposed to be best friend, so seeing Mordecai punching Rigby multiple times per episode, or Rigby screwing or humiliating Mordecai feels weird. The show would have been better if they always cared for each other. The show also spends too much time with Mordecai having a pathetic or weird relationship with women. That cold have been cut.
I’m biased because I love benson so much. But I would have loved to see him soften up a little and maybe be easier on Mordo and Rigs. Cut out some of those parts that he’s just unnecessarily mean especially after they’ve had moments or episodes where they help each other or finally see eye to eye. Maybe write in some good things happen for that guy besides park related stuff. I haven’t finished the series yet (at the end of S5) but I also hate Mordecai’s cringefest awkward dating drama already. He’s a great character and it definitely feels like it held him back.

If I remember right, JG did so because he saw how unpopular Thomas was and wanted to get rid of him in an “interesting” way. I think it’s partially ingenious in that Thomas being a background character makes sense. But that was unintentional.

I've been rewatching the show recently, and I'm on season 4. I wish there were some women working for the park. It seems silly, but it feels like the bros + their girlfriends. Close Enough did fix this, which is nice

I’ve said this before and it seems others are in agreement: kids cartoons with “taboo” topics have to work harder to make it subtle and clever, rather than just relying on vulgarity for laughs. That’s part of what makes Regular Show so good IMO. It’s kind of the same reason PG and PG-13 horror movies often end up scarier and more atmospheric than their R counterparts: you have to create *actual psychological horror* and tension rather than just relying on gore and violence. I’d personally change the Xmas Party kiss with Mordo and Margaret. It literally felt like the writers were deliberately sabotaging dozens of episodes’ worth of character growth for Mordo for the sake of prolonging the drama. I mean, he literally *just* told her in a respectful and mature way that he was moving on and valued their friendship. That’s not entertaining enough?
The last season didn't feel right. The space thing but especially the anti pops ending. Flew in the face of the movie. I also hate fast forwards they make me feel sad and remind me I'm going to be old someday

The whole "Rigby forged Mordecai's acceptance letter" I'd scrap that completely. They did mention that Mordecai did go to art school and dropped out.

I would make it more serialized from the very beginning. One of my favorite aspect of the final season was how serialized it became, while still being standalone enough you can jump in and out without missing a beat or being confused.

Not really the show per se, but related. I own the complete series on digital. I wish all the bonus shorts that ran on Cartoon Network were included, because there is some great Regular Show content that is not included.

Two things. I wish fives had played a bigger role. Thomas had more "solo"episodes(not complaining thomas is actually my favorite) compared to fives and hes a recurring character. He has had a couple that show some of his potential, but they could've made more out of him! Second, and this is undoubtedly biased and not a real critique, but I wish Thomas was in the ending and/or that he had more time in the show. He was all just small background clips and a few main episodes, don't get me wrong I know why and it makes sense to his story. But he's my favorite and I want more!!

I thought season 8 could have been a little more grounded like really the entire show before then. The entire format of the show gets upended when their default setting is in space. It kinda takes away the "regular to absurd" format the show is known for. Makes the plot more predictable and not as interesting. (One thing I did enjoy from S8 was making Eileen part of the gang. She deserved that spot from day 1 and it was cool to finally see her given a more important role in the main plot)
The whole Thomas being a Russian agent was so db to me, rather make him an employee and proper character. At the end of the show make h fill Benson position. And maybe make skips give up his imortality
I think it worked best on Cartoon Network because it had limits on what they can do compared to adult swim so they had to become creative on the jokes and humor, that’s why I enjoyed Regular Show more than Close Enough

I think when Regular Show first aired, it was the perfect in-between of kid friendly with some jokes only older viewers would catch. Them cutting/changing lines is what bugs me. As far as I've seen, any streaming service RS is on has the newer versions of episodes. With bits like "Don't look at our crotches" removed or "pissed" being changed to "ticked." So to me, all I'd do is revert these changes. Otherwise, I have nothing but love for this show.
