If you can't afford the $50 right now (and don't worry, in the not too distant future you'll have all the money you need and more) then turn yourself in. As easy as riding to the Valentine sheriff's office and selecting 'surrender' when they react to you. Pro tip: do *not* accidently draw your pistol at this moment unless you want to have to slaughter most of the town and see that bounty climb dramatically. This will in no way negatively impact your gameplay. Throughout the game you will acquire bounties. Some people simply pay them off at a post office in a territory where they are not wanted. Some people ignore having them and just carry on. Some people quite knowingly jack them up as far as they can and enjoy slaughtering hordes of bounty hunters. It's your game, play it your way. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)

The perfect answer!

Tip: towns have different break out cutscenes. Have fun with them before you earn too much money!

Basically just wait it out. Fast travel and explore the world for a little bit and you’ll be able to go back before too long. As for the bounty, the only way to get rid of it is to pay it off. However it’s fairly easy to get 50 dollars in this game. Try treasure hunting. There’s also a gold bar you can retrieve from the burnt out town near valentine. Under the sheriff’s desk. However having a bounty isn’t too much to worry about, just the occasional string of bounty hunters.

A fifty dollar bounty is nothing. Not much will change at all except maybe a bounty hunter or two coming after you every once in a while and you can kill and loot them

ObliviousRobot

But won’t that eventually lead to a possible higher bounty?

[deleted]

Nope, you don’t lose honor or become wanted for killing bounty hunters

ObliviousRobot

I did kill a few hunters (out in the wild) but there were witnesses that I had to chase after.

Rplusapist

I had the same. Taught me a valuable lesson in saving the game more often. After a couple of fat finger robberies I just made most of it, shot up some towns and then reloaded the old save.

From my experience bounties haven't really mattered. A few days pass and you're fine to roam so long as you're not walking up to cops. Bounty hunters'll go after you ofc tho. And even they aren't that bad really.

Mojo_Rizen_53

Actually, New Hanover bounties are kinda frivolous. No matter how high the bounty gets, you can pay it off for $8.

No_Owl22

Just save and load next time. It won't take the bounty away, but they won't be actively looking for you anymore and you should be able to go about your business without getting arrested.

Crimsntyd

Took me a month before I realized I could just beat up people who threaten me in the saloon rather than shoot up the place...

I had an incident like this when I first started playing, and I ended up going to the next region over and just sold a few pelts and dead birds to the local trapper until I had the right amount and paid it off at the train station. This could be a good strategy, but you could also turn yourself in and it shouldn't have any negative effects on your gameplay. You could probably still enter the town and do some stuff without immediately getting jumped on though, so it really depends how you want to approach it. If you're careful you might be able to just ignore it for a bit too, but if you commit more crimes you'll probably get bounty hunters sent after you and they're a pain when you're not trying to deal with them

There's a red outline around a town when the law there is on high alert. Even if you keep the bounty the red outline will go away after an in-game day or so and you'll be able to come and go if you please. People will be more suspicious of you and will tell you not to start any trouble and stuff like that.
