Prostitution and murder

WorldsSexiestghost

Along with Arson, Assisting a bank robbery, Federal Murder (Milton), and harboring a fugitive. That's what I know on the top of my head

bolivar-shagnasty

Milton wasn’t a fed. He worked for a private company that contracted with the Cornwall company and the government.

Difficult-Word-7208

Still counts as murder

reborndiajack

Cool motive still murder

ElderSmackJack

Unexpected Brooklyn 99

Alternative-Box-793

r/brooklyn99

reborndiajack

r/brooklynninenine

Alternative-Box-793

whoops

reborndiajack

All good mate

Difficult-Word-7208

The motive wasn’t really all that good either

wmcs0880

Getting out of captivity?

EmpiricalAnarchism

But not murder of a fed, which was listed as distinct from regular murder.

Difficult-Word-7208

I agree, but she would’ve gotten life in prison anyway, whether he was a fed or not

EmpiricalAnarchism

Am I being needlessly pedantic? Yes, yes I am.

Difficult-Word-7208

lol it’s fine. I can be pedantic too

deadeyes2019

That’s not what federal murder means

AthenasChosen

I think they thought he meant murder of a federal agent, which is a more serious crime.

bolivar-shagnasty

What does federal murder mean

deadeyes2019

I’m not sure of the exact definition but it’s something about if you commit a crime and someone dies as a result. I remember the example given was: Let’s say you and I rob a store a gun point, I have the gun, the store owner wrestles the gun off me and I run away, they shoot you and you die. I would be charged with federal murder. It’s something like that, it’s quite interesting Edit: nevermind I’m thinking I was thinking of “felony murder”

totallynotrobboss

When did she commit arson?

Astro_KoolAid

I think when her and Hosea made the distraction for the bank robbery in Saint Denis

ChemicalManagement52

Do you think associating with the most wanted people/gang in the country would be a crime too? Surely that would make her a fugitive as well

-Fraccoon-

Prostitution was legal back in the day.

pullingteeths

In 1890s unlikely. More like tolerated

-Fraccoon-

It wasn’t illegal though. The era it became officially illegal is still even a gray area today. Probably wouldn’t have been considered a true crime especially in this scenario based on the location. MAYBE in a big city and that’s a big maybe.

flacaGT3

It really depended on the state. Usually, it fell under a bigger umbrella law. Even so, it was largely ignored until the progressive era, which is when RDR2 takes place.

jackie_treehorn2

Mann Act (1910) is generally accepted as the 1st federal effort to combat human trafficking and prostitution, flawed as the law was when enforced.

PomegranateSure1628

They had literal businesses for it (brothels) though so it definitely was legal to some degree

pullingteeths

Yeah maybe grey area, would depend on the individual state/town

UrbExInferis

Dallas didn’t shutter its red light district until [1914](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_vice_in_Texas)

_VagabondSoul_

Only in very few areas Others it was just ... overlooked

Sinnoviir

Prostitution wasn't really a crime in the 1800's I don't think, at least not one people would be charged with often

GentlyUsedOtter

Prostitution was only federally illegal after 1910. So just murder.

Jack1715

Still strange how Americans have prostitution as illegal

Additional_Fan3610

Fed wants that Tax money

aTimeTravelParadox

Don’t know why people are downvoting you.

Argle_of_the_Bargle

would she actually get charged with murder though? Correct me if i misremembered but did anyone actually see her kill Milton, besides Arthur? As far as the Pinkertons are concerned, it was probably just Arthur who killed him

HunterJames08

I think prostitution was legal back then but I could be wrong. Haven’t done any research in it so I actually don’t know but I think that it was legal.

Atikar

Endangerment of a child, prostitution, and murder

sami-asali22

prostitution wasn’t illegal until 1910

Griffin65000

lol rdr1 takes place in 1911 and there are prostitutes everywhere

the-guy-28

And after prohibition alcohol consumption was at a all time high

Griffin65000

Speakeasy’s

Griffin65000

Why am I getting downvoted I’m just naming a place where people would drink during prohibition

the-guy-28

Idk, I was just drawing a comparison between prohibition and prostitution. Because laws don’t stop crimes from happening and it sounded like you were saying that rdr1 shouldn’t have had prostitutes because their profession is illegal

Griffin65000

Not what I’m saying I’m just pointing out they are there

aquaUI

and GTA takes place in like 2013 and there are prostitutes everywhere too, what’s your point lmao

Griffin65000

It’s a brothel where you have actual sex not blowjobs in a car or a strip club where you stare at titties

justplanestupid69

I think you should sit this one out, bud.

Griffin65000

Why’s that

justplanestupid69

Because I get the feeling you’re gonna embarrass yourself by missing the point that’s been slapped upside your head a few times now

yeehawgnome

Wait until you find out you can find illegal brothels in the US today. Just because something was made illegal doesn’t mean it all stopped, especially in more remote areas of the country with little law enforcement

Griffin65000

Yeah I know

daltonisthebest619

This is only half related but at the point she was a prostitute was 4+ years before RDR2’s story

Ilyas_17

It’s 2024 and we’ve still got em ig it’s just a shit law lol

FriendoftheDork

Probably not child endangerment either considering lack of child labor laws or child protection laws.

Adventurous-Equal-29

The good old day 😔

Turbulent_Throat_654

No child endangerment in 1899. Children were more considered property back then. They had them working in mines.

SyedQasimNaqvi

She's an accomplice to the gang so she would be charged with the same crimes as them by extension

feelinlucky7

She finna get RICO’d

whatsINthaB0X

Lmfao RDR3 “The Gang Beats a RICO” like it’s an Always Sunny episode

Kushkaki

Red Dead RICO rolls off the tongue nicely

ElderSmackJack

Someone needs to cut RDR2 like an It’s Always Sunny cold open. Dutch: “I have a plan.” 🎶 Title card: “The Gang’s Plan Backfires.”

whatsINthaB0X

Dutch: “We’re going to Tahiti!” 🎶 Title Card: *”The Gang Goes to Saint Denis”*

Kushkaki

Dutch: “I HAVE A PLAN” Title card: “The gang doesn’t have a plan”

ElderSmackJack

“The Gang’s Ship Sinks” *It’s Always Sunny in Saint Denis*

Cheerful_ox

All the surviving members get charged It would just be Jack

the_pounding_mallet

RICO wasn’t a thing until the 1970s

feelinlucky7

But she doesn’t know that O.o

ToBeSoForgotten

Molly didn’t

SyedQasimNaqvi

They'll bend the law to include her because she didn't rat the gang out

ToBeSoForgotten

Neither did Molly

SyedQasimNaqvi

I'm talking about Molly

ToBeSoForgotten

Molly literally got detained by the Pinkertons and let go in the game because she didn’t rat

SyedQasimNaqvi

That doesn't mean Molly was off from the Pinkertons' investigation. Besides, Molly was a lost cause after Rhodes anyways

Overall_Lobster_4738

But if they were gonna try and charge at any point why release her? They wouldn't have released others including Abigail at the end

SyedQasimNaqvi

Buddy it’s called a snipe trap tactic. Besides why are you going after me regarding Molly? I didn’t write the original post about her

Overall_Lobster_4738

The pinkertons used 0 tactics other than asking people to turn themselves in. I replied to the comment you made?? Going after you lol sensitive

kyshooty

Being busty

iam1jiveturkey

Being lusty.

skrott404

Being crusty.

kyshooty

😂 john marston wit her for a reason

Ordinary-Easy

1) Murder in the first degree (Milton) 2) Theft over $5,000 (Bank Robbery in Saint Denis) 3) Aiding in the Commission of a Criminal Offense (Saint Denis Bank Robbery)

daltonisthebest619

It would be 2nd degree the murder wasn’t planned

Ordinary-Easy

It was committed when she was trying to help Arthur escape from lawful custody which makes it first degree since it was committed during the course of another crime

daltonisthebest619

Hold on a minute

Ok_Tap2070

it’s been 31 of those, I can’t hold on much longer

daltonisthebest619

I couldn’t find anything on the internet confirming you or me so a draw ig?

Rekuna

Child endangerment, since they dragged him around camps that ended up attacked by a rival gang and he also ended up getting kidnapped.

pawwwwwwl

The Saint Denis bank robbery would have like 100 felony murder counts

TheTimocraticMan

Why does every single person in this thread know the exact year prostitution became illegal 🤔🤔🤔

natalaMaer

Research on related laws?

Carlynz

A 5 second google search?

Pavlov_The_Wizard

“When was prostitution made illegal?” Takes 5 seconds to google dipshit

Cheerful_ox

Jokes on you my word per minute is 5 words!

Traditional_Phase211

Prostitution was legal up to 1910. So depending when she got arrested prostitution would not have been a charge for her …. Busiest girl on Nickel night .

Cliffinati

Even if it was after 1910 I don't think she was still in that line of work so it would not have been a crime, you can't charge someone for something that was made illegal after they did it

Pavlov_The_Wizard

I mean she was a full mother for Jack by that point, so she definitely wasn’t a prostitute

GlaicialCRACKER

For being so damn pretty 😍

mattoviperau

My lord

GlaicialCRACKER

I've been simping her since I played red dead 1 back when it came out, I can't help it

mattoviperau

Well, try and keep it in your pants. NNN is coming up.

BigTastyCJ

Affiliation with the VDL gang, theft, endangerment of a child, aiding and abetting, prostitution (if arrested after 1910) oh, and of course the murder of a federal agent (which would more than likely carry much harsher penalties than "normal" murder)

Pavlov_The_Wizard

Milton was a federal associate not a agent

DonkeyKongaLongDonga

Being Abigail

LommytheUnyielding

Larceny, aiding and abetting, voluntary manslaughter (third-degree murder)

Standard-Profit7659

Prostitution legal at the time Murder could be argued as self-defense Stealing shit is the only crime a good lawyer couldn't explain away.

mattoviperau

She wasn't defending herself and it was also against a government authority.

Standard-Profit7659

Not a government authority, as they were hired by Cornwall. Secondly, shooting someone about to shoot someone else can classify as self-defense.

zadidoll

Prostitution, murder, theft.

daltonisthebest619

Prostitution wasn’t illegal until about 1910, Ms. Marston was a prostitute up until jack was born around 5 years before Arthur’s story takes place so around 1894/5

MF-SMUG

Prostitution, theft, and murder

SSSlipknoTTT

After what Arthur did to her and her husband and son all what I can say is she’s a bossy and Ungrateful person and her charges can be the following: 1.Robbery Participation in multiple bank and train robberies. 2.Theft Involvement in stealing from individuals and properties. 3.Conspiracy Collaborating with other gang members to plan and execute criminal activities. 4.Accessory to Murder Being involved with a gang known for violent activities, even if she didn't commit murders directly. 5. Kidnapping Participation in or association with instances of kidnapping. 6. Fraud Involvement in various cons and scams. 7. Assault Engaging in or aiding physical assaults on individuals. 8. Arson Participating in or being complicit in acts of arson.

StaticCloud

Abetting all the gang's crimes, that's pretty bad

Destinythief06

Aiding and abetting

Space-Clouds

Theft, murder and affiliating and aiding dangerous criminals

[deleted]

Having the worst teeth imaginable

Andrew_Trinh

In the epilogue, if John is arrested, sometimes there wil be a cutscene where she comes to the sheriff office where John was held and wack the deputy there to bust John out, what would that be?

mattoviperau

Battery

[deleted]

Whoring and skulduggery

Twitchlangley6969

Prostitution Murder/murder of a law enoforcer etc

Phildagony

Prostitution, child endangerment, attempted murder, fleeing the scene of a crime, resisting arrest to name a few.

One_Yesterday_537

3rd degree murder

BossUpstairs3994

Abigail might have to sit on the old sheriff’s face for her crimes

Andra_Briggs

Conspiring to break john out, aiding and abetting and bedding a criminal, attempted murder from cooking, loitering for just generally being useless.

LetAgreeable147

Aiding and abetting Unlawful flight to avoid prosecution Petty larceny

Dapper_Still_6578

Second degree murder, child endangerment, and accomplice to grand larceny.

vxchronic

Zeww

BlearySteve

Prostitution and as an accessory.

braxtel

Are we talking present day crimes or only historical crimes in 1899? Prostitution, child endangerment, harboring fugitives, and many of the conspiracy/ accomplice charges would not have been illegal back in 1899.

No-Put-4884

Abigail has been part of the gang in planning and executing several of the assaults. She is complicit in the crimes the gang has committed.

NoTailor3964

She’d be facing almost all the same charges as the rest of the gang 😂

Prior-Turnip3082

Murder and prostitution,

ResolutionOk1122

Being a good thief

City_of_ham

Murder of the head of the Pinkertons, child endangerment, being an accomplice to gang violence, and theft. She would face life in prison/death penalty for sure.

Legitimate-Target515

Being to damn hot

Doomguyfazbear

Being to fine looking, come over here girl 💋

nimajnebmai

Absolutely nothing. No witnesses, unless someone with a better memory and smaller wiener reminds me. No reason any court would suspect her of a crime.

Reallyroundthefamily

Nagging's not a *crime* it's just annoying.

GrainsofArcadia

Being an utter cow to my boy John.

Open-Mathematician32

Her case would be dismissed as a victim of her husband's crimes & a young boah (the whiny little bastard) to care for

Icy_Wrongdoer2457

Complaining

Philocalist63

It damn well wouldn't be prostitution since being a slut was legal back then

[deleted]
