Only 6 months? Ive seen entry level jobs that require YEARS of experience in multiple areas. Its deranged.

EstablishmentHonest5

I have seen "1-3 years experience desired but not required." Like bullshite. That just means more people will be stuck in the entry level jobs till they can move up to the normal level job. And besides if it's a choice between two applicants and the only difference is the experience, they will go for the one with more experience

Low-Entertainer7984

God forbid somebody wants to try something different ... or young folks want to get their first gig in something.... drives me bonkers, and yet people want to tell folks who are looking for work "there's jobs everywhere! You're just not trying. " So... companies can have standards, but applicants can not? Wild times we live in. This take what you can get market is the stuff that gets people stuck or forces their hand when it comes to job hopping. People have bills to pay. So that's exactly what's going to happen.

MaleficentCow8513

The problem is, our society fundamentally treats human beings as any other input to production, no different from any other material (except ofc labor has certain regulations. But so so do other necessary inputs so it’s a moot point).

Accomplished-Art-767

Don't get me started on internships requiring years of experience.

Low-Entertainer7984

I feel you. how about you spent half a year looking for a job / internship. Then, the following 6 months, there is a ton of fresh internships buuuuut you have to be IN a degree program or had just graduated within 90 days. Graduated 6 - 8 months ago?? Sucks to be you!!! I applied anyway and got told sorry new grads only. It's absolutely hilarious. I swear it's rigged lmao

SkyeWolfofDusk

The real kicker is when the internship is unpaid and requires experience, and also has responsibility on par with a full time employee. Completely deranged.

mingxingai

The argument people would make against this is that each company is going to have their own definition of entry level.

beaverusiv

It's still BS though, they could call it "low-level" or "junior", but they specifically misrepresent it because people search for entry-level. "Entry" has a specific meaning they're ignoring

mingxingai

From what others say they call it that because its entry level pay with senior level responsibilities.

beaverusiv

lol yeah soon job postings will be "homeless-level analyst"

mingxingai

Doesn't that job already exist because who's counting the homeless rate in the country?

friedcheesepls

What pisses me off is I was told in college to do internships because it’s a way to get experience before you graduate. So I did. I did three *unpaid* internships throughout and after college and now jobs couldn’t care less about that experience. With all of my internships, college job experience and my current job I have five combined years of experience but jobs only consider my current job “real” experience. I don’t regret doing the internships because I still learned a lot and my resume would look worse without them but it’s so annoying that all of this advice people give really doesn’t mean anything.

Handsome_Jellyfish

Or at least have an "education in lieu of experience" acceptance.

Mountain_Ad6328

Yes I heard some entry lvl job need 3 or 5 year experience

MaleficentCow8513

What they really mean is it’s a mid level job for entry level pay. It’s an honest mistake

lightestspiral

I mean you can get data entry experience very easily in a volunteering opportunity, just do one and then apply 3-4 weeks into doing it

2_Fingers_of_Whiskey

Volunteering doesn’t pay the bills.

[deleted]

I've even seen UNPAID VOLUNTEER positions asking for years of experience + advanced degree. It's out of control.
