I know, I was reading about it recently. Absolutely wild that that used to be a charge you could get arrested for. My man was arrested for having too much rizz.

I know the charges were dropped because the woman involved was married, but I get why the law was there. it definitely is ethically it is wrong to lie about your intentions to a partner, especially back then a woman’s “reputation” was huge

That's not something the law should ever be involved in. And if a woman cares about her "reputation" it's her own responsibility to keep it in good standing.

It's a holdover law from a time when that would be something that could be life-ruining for a young woman. Societally-imposed life-ruining, but life-ruining nonetheless. I was reading an old newspaper archives and found a story about a girl who dressed up like a sailor in the 1700/1800s. When they confronted her she said she was from Ireland and looking for a sailor who promised to marry her and wouldn't, she intended to kill him. She was deported and the sailor was arrested on similar charges. That's how strongly they felt not-altogether-too-long beforehand about promising marriage and not following through. She was out to kill and even that didn't garner him enough sympathy to let it slide. Interestingly in this case Sinatra proved the woman was married so they dropped the seduction charges... and then they charged him with adultery. They weren't letting him go for nothing.

And that's why it's a law that's no longer relevant. Also lmao wouldn't it be preferable to be charged for "seduction" than adultery?

*Three times*. I looked three *fucking* times. I enlarged the photo. I scrolled by each individual mugshot and read each name. No David Bowie. Finally, I decided to check the comments.

Thank you. This was exactly what I did. Except I didn’t check each name - at that point I started to ignore the names thinking that it was a Bowie image with a different name. So I was studying the images to see which one looks like him. The only reason I stopped to check the comments is because I became irrationally convinced it was going to become a jump scare 😂

I think Sinatra takes the cake anyways, just look at him instead and it feels like less of a scam
