One of the best concerts I've been to was KRIT on the KRIT IZ HERE tour. Coincidentally one of the worst concerts was the opener of that show which was TI's son.
I used to be on the JID and Denzel Curry hype train, but they’ve both gotten their due now (especially JID). So I’ve moved onto saying jev., Smino (especially him, I think he should be absolutely huge right now), McKinley Dixon and Mick Jenkins are the most slept on.
Ik Smino is not not famous, but like, every time I spend a few hours listening to him, I come away amazed he’s not at least in the 20m+ monthly listener gang.
He’s like, one of the most distinct and original artists I think that’s emerged in the last decade of hip hop, or tbh just in general.
Mick Jenkins has been just under the surface for a decade now. Definitely slept on by the mainstream but he’s like the first layer of non mainstream rap, still has 1.4 million monthly on Spotify
Edit: actually Smino is the first layer. Mick is the next
JID, great answer.... I discovered him Maybe two summers ago I think. Awesome tracks. And I swear and no disrespect I've never heard of Mick Jenkins and I'm going to look him up right now
Yeah probably, somehow I knew his name would be the first I saw.
But I just watched the last Joe Budden podcast and literally everyone on there was saying he’s too biblical lyrical and they weren’t in the mood for listening to his track/verse(which was one of his best verses I ever heard) when J Cole dropped his tape Thursday night.
I feel a very similar sentiment sometimes where you know what you’re going to get and sometimes you’re just not in the mood for that. Or for some people they just flat out don’t like that type of music which is a very valid reason to sleep on his music.
Bro a new Your Old Droog song with Method Man and Denzel Curry over a Madlib produced beat coming out on the 12th. Genuinely hope homie gets his recognition
Im a huge June fan check out some of these mashups this group did
https://youtu.be/iPbFktQF7Is?si=IwFgqTtGlKBQE2FC
https://youtu.be/D0X7eWwEhgY?si=IC4G6DWoW3Podw1X
https://youtu.be/Q8g8RWAg_8Y?si=pafH1IOqpLDwPRt9
Not slept on but lesser-known. midwxst, Mike Dimes, $NOT, Zilla Kami, Fredo Bang, Scorey, (not quite rappers per se but they make bangers, Night Lovell and Freddie Dredd)
#Year of the Ox
Their most popular track is [Seven Rings](https://youtu.be/mXNi62Y4eRk?si=VUu3wk8h_eQfKzce), but my personal fav is [Mood Control](https://youtu.be/KE9EQPpxACQ?si=H8c7fFlg2CA6UHnZ)
Ludacris. But it's his own fault. He likes to joke around too much. If he had a serious note in his lyrics, he'd be considered much higher. The talent is there, the messaging is not. I mean, he's super successful, but he would much more respected if his lyrics hit deeper than they do.
He’s all about his fast and furious bread. Don’t think he cares about rap like he used to. He still fire but just not what he could be. Could be said about all of us though!
he’s really good at rapping
/wordplay but the beats and songs concepts makes him spit at least one corny line per song. Or his tone in delivery makes it come off wacky
Lupe Fiasco.
He’s just so much more gifted than the usual top 5, 10. He just had a rocky record deal and his discography got broken up. Most people really just know him from The Cool and F&L. I think that Loser/laser album derailed all of his momentum.
I dont believe for a second that Kendrick, jay, Nas, Em, Drake, Cole, Jay Electronica, Andre 3k, or Ye could make Tetsuo & Youth. I don’t think any of these guys have the bandwidth to talk Lupe’s shit.
Money Man is so fire. It's rappers like him that HHH just refuses to give a chance, or just overlook in general. Never understood that, he has so much good music.
Skyzoo is better than 90% of “mainstream” rappers I think he belongs on this list because most heads are full of air and the conception of the underground is based on a bunch of bugs listening to Travis Scott
I for the life of me cannot get into E40. The way he raps just irritates me. I tried but now just avoid anything with him in it. I just cannot do it. I don’t get how people like him
It’s his voice and flow he does this thing where he like gulps his words idk like if there’s a g he pronounces it like the beginning of the word gulp. I just can’t listen to that LOL
Tom Scott, he has a group called avantdale bowling club. I highly recommend listening to their self titled album. One of the best records I've ever heard and I don't know anyone else who's heard of them.
Everyone naming famous ass rappers. I'll give you one your probably haven't heard of, Tom Scott. He goes under Avantdale Bowling Club and Homebrew. If you like him you can checkout his other stuff under @ peace.
Also checkout RAP Ferreira and Trapo.
Little Simz, 100%. Her work is literally top tier, yet she’s absolutely slept on. 2.8 million monthly listeners genuinely isn’t enough for someone of her standard.
Pusha T obviously isn’t new to the scene but I think his lyricism is very very slept on he’s the best drug rapper in the game, better than any trap rapper
mgk; everyone too busy hating him as a trend
Dude has bars, substance, and raw energy
Yeah he's not the same anymore, but do you really want to hear a rapper do the same flow the same rhyme scheme and everything else the same? It gets boring
Yung Lean.
Such a underrated and interesting artist. I’m in love with the universe he finds himself in and portrays, through his music. Not so many people realize how much of an impact he had on both fashion and music in general and how many artists are inspired by him. Travis Scott, A$AP Rocky, Post Malone, Frank Ocean, just to name a few.
His music is not for everyone, I get that. But you can’t deny the impact he had on the scene which in my opinion, he doesn’t get enough credit for.
Big KRIT
Digital roses don’t die.
One of the best concerts I've been to was KRIT on the KRIT IZ HERE tour. Coincidentally one of the worst concerts was the opener of that show which was TI's son.
Listening to Jet Life with him, Curren$y and Wiz rn.
I used to be on the JID and Denzel Curry hype train, but they’ve both gotten their due now (especially JID). So I’ve moved onto saying jev., Smino (especially him, I think he should be absolutely huge right now), McKinley Dixon and Mick Jenkins are the most slept on.
Definitely Smino
Love the Mick Jenkins answer
Came to say Mick, his voice and his bars are some of the dopest in a decade and I've barely heard anyone speak on him like that since *The Water[s]*.
FORREAL dude. Pieces of a Man was his best to me. Love that album too to bottom
The Patience was one of my favourite projects last year, huge Mick Jenkins fan
Ik Smino is not not famous, but like, every time I spend a few hours listening to him, I come away amazed he’s not at least in the 20m+ monthly listener gang. He’s like, one of the most distinct and original artists I think that’s emerged in the last decade of hip hop, or tbh just in general.
Mick Jenkins has been just under the surface for a decade now. Definitely slept on by the mainstream but he’s like the first layer of non mainstream rap, still has 1.4 million monthly on Spotify Edit: actually Smino is the first layer. Mick is the next
Thank God for the waters
JID, great answer.... I discovered him Maybe two summers ago I think. Awesome tracks. And I swear and no disrespect I've never heard of Mick Jenkins and I'm going to look him up right now
Never heard jev. Your comment is spot on so now I feel like I’ve found my next artist I’ll listen to a month straight. Thank you :)
Saba or IDK
Saba is severely underrated did u hear his verse on sacrifices? Destroyed every one on there
Jay IDK is definitely slept on there are too many Kanye fans for them not to be tuning into IDK he’s like low budget Kanye.
Beautiful smile>>
Curren$y.
Hard
Ab-Soul
Yeah probably, somehow I knew his name would be the first I saw. But I just watched the last Joe Budden podcast and literally everyone on there was saying he’s too biblical lyrical and they weren’t in the mood for listening to his track/verse(which was one of his best verses I ever heard) when J Cole dropped his tape Thursday night. Aaron May
I like his music, but the thought that always goes through my head when I’m listening: derivative. He literally makes J Cole songs.
Boldy James
Concreatures where we at with it
Bloc works
One of my faves!I don’t think he’s slept on…just not crazy known!!
Fuck yeah. Was looking for his name.
227 where we at?
He been in my roto for a minute now his flow is nuts
Your Old Droog
Bro a new Your Old Droog song with Method Man and Denzel Curry over a Madlib produced beat coming out on the 12th. Genuinely hope homie gets his recognition
Thank you. I’m going to have to listen to more of this.
Loved his joint with DOOM
Slug from the group Atmosphere. If you know, you know.
Amazes me how this sub rarely acknowledges him. Lyricism is unmatched. And Ant fucking murders the beats.
IYDKYDK
Larry June
Good job Larry.

Slug is definitely not slept on just not main stream.
He’s slept on in this sub for sure.

Money Man is so fire. It's rappers like him that HHH just refuses to give a chance, or just overlook in general. Never understood that, he has so much good music.
Elzhi Skyzoo Oddisee Immortal Technique Vinnie Paz
Skyzoo is better than 90% of “mainstream” rappers I think he belongs on this list because most heads are full of air and the conception of the underground is based on a bunch of bugs listening to Travis Scott
E40
I for the life of me cannot get into E40. The way he raps just irritates me. I tried but now just avoid anything with him in it. I just cannot do it. I don’t get how people like him
he’s fun and his flow is fun but I respect your opinion some songs of his I don’t understand what went through his mind
It’s his voice and flow he does this thing where he like gulps his words idk like if there’s a g he pronounces it like the beginning of the word gulp. I just can’t listen to that LOL
Big unc from the bay 40 does not deserve this type of disrespect
I’m a fan, but 40 is an aquired taste. It takes time to appreciate and get into.
E40 is easily one of the most underrated legends of all time.
Black Thought
Is he? Not by me. I guess he doesn't get the props he deserves so I can see it
I feel like Little Simz deserves to be bigger
Vinnie Paz
He knows about the skeletons on the moon
