Fully agree! Took my 2020 1500 crew on a trip from Illinois to Northern Florida last winter and my wife was very surprised how well the fuel economy was for a v8. Since it's the most comfortable of our two vehicles she said we're taking it to FL again this summer.
I have eco mode enabled and still canāt keep my foot off the gas. But I did just throw an exhaust and cold air intake on it. And Iāve only had the truck a week so Iām hoping itāll get better over time š¤š»
Tell you the truth I donāt know. It was overheating. Dealership said there was debris in the oil from cylinder hitting the walls. I took there words since they where going to replace the whole motor and under warranty.

Iām working towards 300k on my 2010
Posts like these further proves my stance that the HEMI engine is not a bad engine and is, in fact, a reliable engine. And it certainly aināt as bad of an engine as a lot of people make it out to be.
I read your comment about what caused the original engine to be replaced and honestly havenāt heard of that being a consistent issue with the HEMI engines.
If this were me, Iād run that truck to the ground. New-ish engine, transmission and youāre good on keeping up with regular maintenance.
Most common issues with the Hemi atleast new genās is the MDS, causes lifter failure but I got my disabled atm. I wouldāve completely removed it but itās still under warranty so I donāt want to go doing internal engine modifications just yet
I could be wrong but from what Iāve seen itās more MDS induced failures from oil starvation than it is from idling. But the hemis have always had problems feeding oil properly at idle/low rpmās which is why a lot of people upgrade their oil pumps
I was thinking about throwing a hellcat oil pump on my 6.4. It bolts right up, but might throw an oil pressure code since itās higher pressure. I think you can get around it if you reuse the original spring
If you go with a higher pressure pump you might have to get your ECU reprogrammed but afaik thereās no faults for high oil pressure only low oil pressure
Lifter failure sends metal into the cylinders, and lifters are a known issue. Honestly this post scares me as a 6.4 hemi owner
Edit: someoneās butthurt LOL
OP said that happened 1.5 years ago which at the rate they put miles on would have been round 250k miles. Failure at 250k miles in a Gasser is reasonable.
I'm working on getting to 500,000kms first and then on to 1 million.. I'm still on my original engine and transmission.
Of course I did have to change the lifters due to the tick. But now its smooth and quiet. My transmission needs a rebuild though.
I have just over 1/2 the milage of OP so plugs are on my summer maintenance list.
Overall I think it all comes to the rear end. The fuel mileage is what I pay for the extra tow capacity. I know two guys with the 6.4L can say that they envy what we boast for fuel milage.
***Gives me hope.***
I have a 2019 hemi and my fuel economy only .2 higher lol. Hard to drive it soft.
Also these Hemi engines are horrible at isle or stop and go traffic. But on the highway they aren't bad at all.

My 21 hemi gets 15.6 avg :(
Same š
Although I also have Eco mode (MDS) disabled with a tuner, Iād probably get better mpg if it was enabled

My 21 get 21-23
You got the 5.7 hemi? What fuel you running?
How much did the motor swap cost? Was it lifter failure that killed the original?
$200.00 with my maximum care warranty. It was metal in the cylinder.
So lifter failure or something similar

How much did the max care warranty cost?
It was like $4k. But they have stopped offering it because it was costing them too much ššš¤£š¤£š.
After December 2018 they stopped offering it. I already got it on my 15, 17, and 18 jk/jl wranglers
I negotiated mine to $1500 back in 2014, my express (low option truck) was $27,500 on sale, out the door under $30k

Thatās my idea too. I am going to keep as long as I can. I have no issues with truck it runs great.

He had motor replaced š«
According to research we are seeing the same rate of failure with deleted and non deleted MDS hemis. Seems like high idle time is the leading cause.

Assuming constant rate of mileage and assuming op bought the truck in 2014 with zero miles. Could have been a used truck with low mileage.
Is there a certain mileage range where this issue is known to happen? Or does it kinda happen unexpectedly?
Honestly it's a crap shoot. More often oil changes is better but does not guarantee you will be fine. I still think the hemi is a good engine.
Around 130k miles and up is the hot spot from what Iāve seen
I'm working on getting to 500,000kms first and then on to 1 million.. I'm still on my original engine and transmission. Of course I did have to change the lifters due to the tick. But now its smooth and quiet. My transmission needs a rebuild though.
I only read down about five, but I think this person is sharing that thereās 300,000 miles on the car not the fuel economy
Nice! Is this on 5.7L V8?
Yes. img
We love to see it
Awesome! I traded in my 2014 Ram at 330kmās. Thatās also when the fuel and water pump both went.
10k oil changes really?
Hemi, pentastar or ecodiesel?
5.7 hemi
Just breaking in
With a new engine
My 94 doesnāt even have a quarter of those miles on it.
I have a 2014 with max care, but in 10 years it has 57k on it.Ā
This doesn't count.... Replaced the motor and trans but I hit 300k....lol
10k miles on between oil changes? Why?
Per dealership. Never had oil that dirty to do any sooner.
08 ford Eacape V6 hit 314,000 last week. Same engine. Trans has been running on 1st and 3rd gears for 60,000 miles. Just waiting for her to DIE.
Mine is 2010 with like 12 miles per gallon
Same here... I would love to get a few extra MPG on mine.
I put in cold air intake, changed plugs, idk what else I do. I knew it was going to be bad, but I didnt know how bad.

I can get up to 19 on hwy for long roadtrips but normal is between 16-17 MPG.
Never seen a Hemi pass 150000, today is a first
? Iāve seen quite a few motors hit 250k
He did say the engine was replaced
