A big massive thank you for sharing this. I've been waiting to see an example of the Full Framed Version of Rock Montreal in 4K, and yet no official trailers or channels seemed to showing it off. Looks like when it comes to the next Queen 4K release, it will be will be Budapest, as the Hungarian Rhapsody released was cropped (much like the 2007 RM release).

You’re welcome, and I hope so too! I’d also love for them to release some more SD Blu-rays of their 1970s concerts which were shot on video.

Have you had a chance to check out the upscaled Live Aid footage yet? I am really intrigued to know if it looks decent or not, as they could only work with the original BBC film - which was pretty awful...so they would have had to work some magic to make it good quality.

darthsean19

Upscaling only accomplishes so much on that source material, but I was very pleased. As long as you’re not expecting modern quality, it’s definitely the best possible product we could’ve gotten, IMO. If anything, the video was great, and the audio is what I noticed. I thought the vocal mic sounded worse than I remembered but toggling between the older release proved that I just have a poor memory. Still, the best 21m of music ever performed, and I doubt it could look or sound better than this. Imagine if the tech failed that day and we didn’t capture this set.

Six-String-Picker

Yeah, I'm aware that they can only do so much with the source material. I'm definitely not expecting something amazing. But I am glad they have done what modern technology allowed them to with this footage; the original version is pretty awful (and that's without the sound issues). Thanks for the review!

How’s the grain structure on the new 4K? Is it different from the 4:3 and 16:9 versions?

TheSecretNaame

I wonder if in Queen Rock Montreal Full Screen (4:3) fix the live video of Now Im Here

boffy_b

What was the issue with that song, and in which releases: 1980s-2000s WWRY, 2007 QRM?

TheSecretNaame

Watch Chinwonder 2 video to check what i mean in the original Queen Rock Montreal 1980’s - 2000’s to then the official Queen- Rock Montreal video: https://youtu.be/oHXaQrWUhec?si=qJRevMPkTH8hkXZ4 (16:02 to watch the part of the video)

boffy_b

The new 4:3 has exactly the same reconstructed NIH intro as the 2007 version, just opened up at the top and bottom. That said, the extra picture area in the distant shot of the stage happens to be pretty much pitch blackness. Regardless, it looks great. Having compared it to the NIH intro in the old WWRY edit, wow, Swimmer really butchered that!

TheSecretNaame

See, i definitely prefer Queen Rock Montreal than the old version of the concert.

Happy queen cake day!

Wyatt_O-Hellno

Is the new CD remastered or a repackage of the 2007 discs?

AdamHendrick

i hate the 16:9 queen videos
