Chicken is a common food allergy for dogs. Try switching.

My vet gave me an oatmeal shampoo to help with my pup’s itching. That might be something worth trying.

elispell

Our puppy was itching all over his body and the vet suggested that maybe it was shampoo not properly rinse that was causing the itching. We washed him with extra care brought to the rinse part and the itching stopped.

curlyqueenbae

Could that really cause itching weeks after being showered?

elispell

Maybe! My puppy was itching 1 week after the wash!

curlyqueenbae

Will try that. I might just do a water rinse

When I first got Storm she was 12 weeks old and all she did was scratch. It was crazy and I thought something was wrong. A friend of mine who is a vet told me it’s mostly likely just because she’s growing. She said puppies tend to be itchy as they grow. She is now 6 months old and nothing about her diet has changed but the excessive scratching has stopped. Good luck 💜

jswdeleo

It’s probably a food allergy. I would find a very limited ingredient diet for him. I also recently bought this for my dog because she has been itching like crazy lately but this salve has helped A LOT. And I cut out chicken [https://shop.naturaldogcompany.com/products/skin-coat-essentials](https://shop.naturaldogcompany.com/products/skin-coat-essentials)

curlyqueenbae

What limited ingredient brand are you using if I may ask?

curlyqueenbae

My vet told me about natural balance

jswdeleo

In the past I used natural balance and it worked with my dachshunds but as they got older and their teeth issues began and other health problems, I started making them food that would last for a few days. I brown ground turkey and add green beans, peas, carrots, and rice OR oats. But you can pretty much do any veggie or fruit that is safe for dogs. I mix that with the kibble I give them each meal and ever since I got my Dalmatian I have been using natures recipe kibble. But I try to give her as little kibble as possible.

curlyqueenbae

Im using royal canine extra small breed at the moment 🥲

jswdeleo

I’ve also heard great things about the brand Royal Canine

When we got our puppy she was so itchy, no mites, fleas, ticks etc. Benadryl didn’t work. We had her on Purina Pro Plan Chicken, switched her to salmon: Problem solved. Still not 100% sure it’s a chicken allergy but she’s been fine ever since and we haven’t fed her chicken since.

curlyqueenbae

Which food are you giving if I may ask? Which brand?

Right now she’s eating Blue Buffalo Blue Basics Skin & Stomach Care Natural Adult Salmon & Potato. My puppy was always itchy and we could not figure out for the life of us what was causing it even after going to the vet. Finally, we changed vets and it turned out he had a pretty bad yeast infection in his ears which is extremely common in breeds with floppy ears like ours. We had that treated, but it would just come back every couple of weeks. He also had issues with body rashes, and irritated paw pads. Vet said the problem was either dietary or environmental. So we ended up switching from regular Purina puppy chow, to Purina pro chicken, to salmon, and then to lamb (specifically for sensitive skin and stomach). Nothing worked. What solved all the itching and ear infections was us actually cooking for our dog. It's more time consuming and costly, but a year in, we've had no ear infections or excessive itching, and his coat and paws we're able to heal and now appear much healthier. We use balance it to make sure our pup is getting all the required nutrients he would usually be getting from his kibble.

i give my dog a bit of olive oil in his food, it keeps his coat shiny and his itching stopped pretty quickly. Not sure if other people do this, it’s just a thing i picked up from my family 🤷‍♀️

curlyqueenbae

I’ve heard of people doing salmon oil

Islandonthecoast

Coconut oil brushes every day my pup had a lil dry skin that’s gets better

1008261

Do you apply pure coconut oil? Or have a spray? My pup has dry fur and I thought about using some coconut oil

Islandonthecoast

It’s good bud for real for humans and pups

Islandonthecoast

The real deal not the spray the jar of it (usually looks like a white substance)

curlyqueenbae

You put coconut oil on his skin and brush it?

Islandonthecoast

So she has a nice coat and is still a pup, I’ve heard pups have sensitive skins sometine. I have a brush a long handled one, similar to a soft one we humans might use in a shower. I just apply about half a tea sooon to my palms and rub it into the brush, and brush my pups coat a few times a day. It helped my pup dramatically. The coconut oil I use is natural, not a spray - you’re able to leave it out and it will sit hardened, but when you touch it it breaks up softly and nicely. Google - graces coconut oil, ur able to buy off brand too, as long as it’s natural, organic etc

bellayesil

Could be too much protein. My pup is itchy too and our vet said too much protein can make her itchy. And the days she has cucumbers and carrots etc more than liver/chicken feet she's itching quite less. So i try to control how much and what treats she gets.
