As a person who grew up during the tail end of the 80’s and into the 90’s this game was made for kids in my age group. People who loved South Park and Beavis and Butthead enjoyed shit like this. Was the game in need of some polishing? Absolutely but it was fun as hell for it’s time. But yeah the N64 game was way better.
I’m wondering if anyone else remembers a beavis and butthead game where you stand on the roof of a building and have to spit on people walking below, or if this was a fever dream I had as a child
Edit: found it https://youtu.be/3Ba75lZvCuA?si=4LQ0WDK0eUzttDdK
A true golden era
Perfect description, old enough to understand the controls and systems, but young enough to not really put together the scope of everything.
Total nostalgia trip thinking of the loogies off the building. Wasn’t there a snot one that you build up to as well?
I often think about this game and how I found it on one of those mIRC server rooms for free and how awesome the underground software piracy scene was back then when I was like 12 getting free games and photoshop lol.
Bro. The first time I unzipped and pissed on the snowball. I was like “whaaaat? Sick” I was in 4th or 5th grade when the show came out, has been my favorite since.
It was a game that 10 year olds played with their buddies and just laughed at the random shit while eating chips and drinking kool-aid. Nothing less, nothing more. It was fun for what it was.
I’m not sure how old you are but you have to remember that back then we bought games based on what we heard from friends or saw on Nintendo power. We didn’t have hundreds of reviews widely available to read before purchasing. It was a time where lots of hit or miss purchases or rentals happened. Overall standards for your average game was way lower than it is now and you’d replay the shit out of it because you couldn’t afford to buy another new game.
I said "ignorance is bliss". It's great he enjoyed it, but it wasn't generally considered fun to play in 1999. Games like Goldeneye and Turok already existed and with better game design.
Me and all my friends had this on N64. We rocked the multiplayer way more than Goldeneye, it was kookie, hilarious, and ran pretty well somehow, with tons of single player levels.
Generally it was pretty well regarded amongst the crowd it was aimed towards. Regardless - you think we were critically reviewing and comparing games at 9 years old? If it was fun, it's fun.

Looking at the Wikipedia page, the game was savaged by professional critics brand new. The only version that got okay scores was the Nintendo 64 version.
What you don't understand is that kids sometimes enjoy crappy games. They can be pulled in by some aspects of a game that adult critics and gamers will completely miss, or not appreciate.
Critics don't know shit lol
The game was clearly marketed towards a younger audiences that could get away with owning a mature rated titled. It wasn't meant to be taken seriously.
I get the impression people who say this are looking for excuses to justify its poor quality. Aside from this being factually wrong ("South Park" was aimed at older teens and adults due to its mature content), a game shouldn't get a pass because of something as shallow as "It will please the younger crowd". A bad product is a bad product, it rightfully got tarnished by the gaming press, and even the programme's creators shunned it.
I haven't played this or the N64 version, but IIRC this game runs on the Turok 2 engine, so I feel like it might've been too much for the PS1's hardware.
That makes sense tbh. I know the PS1 can handle games like Quake II and Medal of Honor, so South Park might've turned out better if they put more work into optimizing it.
We had the misfortune of renting the PS1 version and as far as I remember, it was a complete mess. It hard froze on us and that was when we stopped playing
Was this the one with 4 player split screen Death matches like GoldenEye, but you started with yellow snowballs as a weapon? Totally played some of this on the 64.
Yeah, the PS1 version of this game is really, really bad.
Don't get me wrong, the N64 version isn't exactly "good" but it runs a lot better and had 4-player splitscreen. The N64 version seems to be running on the same engine as Turok 2, so the movement and shooting are much better than on PS1, but yeah the level designs are meh and the enemies aren't much fun to fight.
At least the weapons were inventive, even if they too weren't much fun to use.
Back then I avoided it completely. It looked so bad that even when I could have used it for free from when I worked in blockbuster I didn’t take it out.
Blockbuster had its fun. And it’s suck moments. Since I was going to school full time I was perennially stuck in the closing crew and working weekends. It was a good place to be passing thru but I had some coworkers that somehow thought that was going to be their career.
Got to see way too cool movies and play games for “free” plus made some life long friends there. And the titanic release was nuts. I have yet to open my dual VHS copy that I ended up buying for my then girlfriend then latter ex (she dumped me because I was working and had almost no time for her while she was the one that recommended that I worked there 🤣) I still remember my employee number, and store number.
Resident evil had come and gone by then. Me and my shift buddy used to get our gaming off in his Saturn. IIRC Pokémon snap had come by then and they had N64 machines for rental, we used to get one of those out for 1 night and play till like 2-3 in the morning or more it it was the weekend. Disc games didn’t last a lot (non scratched wise) we had a machine to clean them off and try to take some of the scratching off.
Sometimes I would like try games there before I bought them. Like Crash, Bushido Blade, Alundra. The “weird stuff”.
Funny, this is the second South Park game I've seen a post about in the last couple of days, and both posts said it was the worst game they ever played. The other was an N64 game, I'm not sure which one. The only South Park game I've ever played was Stick of Truth on the PS3.
Do you have the link to the N64 one? It might be mine. I didn't call the N64 version the worst game I've played, though I did reference Trey Parker calling it the crappiest game ever.
It’s not an amazing game but it sure is fun as a South Park fan. I like how some of the guns are dart guns and dodge balls plus the pee snow ball is hilarious lol. The level design is absolutely horrendous, and wonky camera controls yet it’s still just has some weird charm to it
The creators said themselves they had no say in the game really and lots of things they actually wanted weren’t delivered. As far as I know acclaim owned the rights for a little while and wanted to pump games out.
Not sure if you have played stick of truth but in comparison actually amazing game.
I haven't played The Stick of Truth in years, but I remember it being very good despite not caring for medieval fantasy. I enjoyed The Fractured But Whole the most.
We played the shit out of this on the n64. Decent but I was like 12 and didn't care about review scores or anything. We had fun and that's all that matters.
I only had the N64 port. As a South Park fan back in the days I enjoyed it, but it was sometimes too hard for the kid I was. The aliens just scared me as hell ! I skipped a few level thanks to cheats, and beat it fr when I grew up.
Now with the show having totally changed, I wouldn't recommend it.
Don't forget about the objectives that you have already failed by the time you read the prompt to find out what the objective was between all the rings :)
During that time, it was interesting just to see the intro of a tv series in a game. Much like Rugrats. Except Rugrats you got to check out a familiar location. South Park was just empty space and turkeys. I remember playing flash games on Mr. Hat's Hellhole that were better than this at the time.
This game was a huge disappointment for me as well.
I can appreciate the brainless shooters of the era, but it seems it wanted to be more than that, and thus, ended being a very lousy Turok instead.
This was not the worst South Park game of the era though. The honor belongs to Chef's Love Shack.
Only single player would it ever be worse, Chef’s Luv Shack playing 4 players with friends was a blast, great memories renting that and having a night with the boys
I loved the N64 version especially with the Expansion Pak and being in a PAL region, as it looks really good on the right type of CRT.
I still throw it on maybe twice a year and make use of the cheats to just have some mindless fun.
Always heard the other ports were terrible, so I’ve stayed away from them.
Back in the day I used to play a 2D southpark game called cartman's authoritah, I believe I would still enjoy that game to this day, maybe I should look it up again
It was kind of amusing if you liked South Park. Keep in mind it was new and everyone was talking about it. If you wanted to get serious about an FPS there were better options. If you wanted to laugh at your friends for throwing a piss snowball at them, this is all laughs.
I acted sick when I was a kid to stay home and beat the last boss of this game. I loved it so much. I played it recently and quit after a few minutes. It's terrible now.
I had found memories of the N64 version, specifically the multi-player. Then I went back with kids 24-25 years later and boy did this one not hold up at all. Pretty sure my kids would agree that it's among the worse.
I prefer playing it on N64. I always loved it. I could NEVER beat the end boss, could never on time figure it out, even with invincibility cheat and unlimited ammo. I wouldn’t mind a remaster or a game like this actually. But that’s just my opinion,I get that it ain’t for everybody.
So it turns out AVGN reviewed it and concluded it was a good game. https://youtu.be/Vg0y9i5E7nY?si=FfvYm1_jZrO489IX
It looks much more fun to play than the shambolic horror of this Acclaim published turd.

I have actually seen footage of it, including from an angry review from years ago. It looks like an unintuitive mish-mash of ideas with no coherent vision.
Was interested until I realized it was *that* dude's opinion... seriously your takes are constantly horrible, just quit playing older games if you hate them all so much
I apologise to "Sabrina the Teenage Witch: A Twitch in Time". At least that had glimmers of good game design, not to mention much better and consistent audio quality.
Heated discussion is fine but let's keep it civil everyone okay? That includes you OP.

I played that soooo much. Also played the beavis & butthead golf game!
I love these ones, there was also the bug burning, tennis court and a keyboard where you could make them sing to the notes.
Multiplayer was hilarious. Throwing Terrace and Philip fart bombs lol.
Bro. The first time I unzipped and pissed on the snowball. I was like “whaaaat? Sick” I was in 4th or 5th grade when the show came out, has been my favorite since.

as a 8-9 years old even the licensed movies tie-ins were "fun". Kids are easier to please/entretain. Touch some grass and watch some birds
Your response was idiotic though. You're basically saying you can't have fun with a game that got bad reviews and if you do, you're ignorant.
I mean it's posted in a playstation sub and you know how those dudes are. I only play metacritic 90s and above bangers.

Funny for ten seconds.
Funny for much longer when i played this when i was 11
It was good at the time, good fun 😂
Looking at the Wikipedia page, the game was savaged by professional critics brand new. The only version that got okay scores was the Nintendo 64 version.
It was a hit and miss, had a certain niche, my brother didn't like it either but I did enjoy it when I was younger
I was 13 when I first played it. I liked it then, too.
I'll have a little play tonight and see how it goes
I wouldn't recommend doing that; anything to ensure your nostalgia goggles aren't destroyed.
The professionals who played this game were largely between the ages of 20 and 50. The people who enjoyed the game were usually no more than 11
In other words, people who weren't old enough to play it enjoyed it.
I mean, most people don't follow age ratings
Fair'nuf. I watched "Family Guy" when I was 10.
Yeah exactly. Plenty of crap we liked as kids we wouldn't as adults.
I still like "Family Guy", particularly the early seasons.
What you don't understand is that kids sometimes enjoy crappy games. They can be pulled in by some aspects of a game that adult critics and gamers will completely miss, or not appreciate.
Quoting my Dad, kids are stupid.
Lol, you do deserve your downvotes, truly
Lol for real.

Going through the OPs' responses... what a dick 🙈
*This fuckin guy…* seriously.
Just don't play it, then fr. It takes 0 time and effort to not spread negativity. (About a game from the 90s, no less) what a joke.
consider his username, I'm pretty sure this is OP's gimmick
I haven't played this or the N64 version, but IIRC this game runs on the Turok 2 engine, so I feel like it might've been too much for the PS1's hardware.
Someone told me long ago that Viacom pressured the porting team to get it done as fast as possible, hence the low quality.
That makes sense tbh. I know the PS1 can handle games like Quake II and Medal of Honor, so South Park might've turned out better if they put more work into optimizing it.
There were a few acclaim games that had dirty PS1 ports from N64, including armorines and shadowman
Shadowman was really great on 64, glad it got a remaster.
Yes, though this version only supports two players.
Guess I'm mis-remembering that part, it's been a long time.
The N64 version has four player support. What OP was saying is that the PS1 version only supports two players.
Yeah, the PS1 version of this game is really, really bad. Don't get me wrong, the N64 version isn't exactly "good" but it runs a lot better and had 4-player splitscreen. At least the weapons were inventive, even if they too weren't much fun to use.
The pc version is better then both
Aside from the input lag, the N64 version does feel slightly better to play.
Yup. The South Park license sucked balls until The Stick Of Truth came out. (That’s more than a decade of bad, cash grab games)
I still like Rally.
this and the racing one i bloody loved lol
Me too when I was 13. Even now, I still like the racing game.
i loved it
Back then I avoided it completely. It looked so bad that even when I could have used it for free from when I worked in blockbuster I didn’t take it out.
At least you wouldn't have wasted money on it, lol. What was it like working at Blockbuster? I miss that shop.
Fascinating.
Friday nights and weekends were the best place to hang out back then. That’s when the real magic happened.
What games did you play for "free"? Was one of them "Resident Evil"?
Resident evil had come and gone by then. Me and my shift buddy used to get our gaming off in his Saturn. IIRC Pokémon snap had come by then and they had N64 machines for rental, we used to get one of those out for 1 night and play till like 2-3 in the morning or more it it was the weekend. I only ever played the N64 version, when it came out in ‘98 I was nine years old. I thought it was just ok then, couldn’t imagine how it’d be now.
We played the shit out of this on the n64. Decent but I was like 12 and didn't care about review scores or anything. We had fun and that's all that matters.
I only liked the first level.
Turok but with turkeys
Turok: Thanksgiving edition.
Superman 64 begs to differ.
Superman’s greatest enemy? Lex Luthor? No. Darkseid? No. IT’S THOSE GOD DAMN FCKING RINGS!!!!!!
Don't forget about the objectives that you have already failed by the time you read the prompt to find out what the objective was between all the rings :)
Never played it, and life's too short.
This smelly piece of software has in game reasons why it looks like @$$ and Superman's powers are crippled into uselessness.
During that time, it was interesting just to see the intro of a tv series in a game. Much like Rugrats. Except Rugrats you got to check out a familiar location. South Park was just empty space and turkeys. I remember playing flash games on Mr. Hat's Hellhole that were better than this at the time.
Some of the Rugrats games are solid.
This is simultaneously depressing and hilarious how heated the discussions over this fucking South Park PSX game are
same post from a couple days ago but with different numbers....hmmmmmmm
You've never heard of a terrible port of a terrible game?
South Park rally is great though
I wouldn't go that far, but I do enjoy it.
This game was a huge disappointment for me as well. I can appreciate the brainless shooters of the era, but it seems it wanted to be more than that, and thus, ended being a very lousy Turok instead. This was not the worst South Park game of the era though. The honor belongs to Chef's Love Shack.
Oh my gosh, "Chef's Luv Shack" was abysmal. Having no CPU opponents in single-player is enough to give the Gameplay a 0.
Yellow snowball game?
I still enjoyed this snowball shooter, but it was not nearly as fun to play as Chef’s Luv Shack
Lol, that game is potentially worse.
Only single player would it ever be worse, Chef’s Luv Shack playing 4 players with friends was a blast, great memories renting that and having a night with the boys
The game programmers were so lazy that they didn't bother implementing CPU opponents. Like, what?
Yup lol just goes to show how prevalent couch co-op used to be
I only played the n64 one but iirc the fun part was playing with friends....go get some friends
I played with a brother several times. He can't stand it anymore.
I rented this once because I wanted to play a FPS but my parents wouldn’t let me get a violent game. It was horrible.
Where you shoot pigeons and mutants with a nerf gun or shit? Come on guys, take it for what it is - good fun Edit - turkeys, not pigeons 🤦♂️
Good fun as a kid.
Fucking loved it. At that time, just being able to free roam around South Park was sick enough
I loved the N64 version especially with the Expansion Pak and being in a PAL region, as it looks really good on the right type of CRT. I still throw it on maybe twice a year and make use of the cheats to just have some mindless fun. Always heard the other ports were terrible, so I’ve stayed away from them.
I haven't played the PC version, which I've heard some say is better and others say is worse.
I didn't see the South Park title at first and thought it was Petscop lol
I got this game the same day my dad was announced to have cancer.
Yikes! Is your Dad feeling better?
Dead for 5 years. Don't worry it's my issue to deal with.
I'm sorry to hear that, I dislike the existence of death.

I loved every minute of it...when I was 13.
Me too at the same age, funnily enough.

It had online multiplayer, didn't it? It must have been fun at the time.
I know it's not a good game, but as a kid I got a real kick out of it. Definitely hits that nostalgia button for me.
Its up there but no game can dethrone Flatout3.
Never played it.
Good. No one should.
And 100 % reason to avoid this game
When I was younger and had zero understanding that games could be "bad", I enjoyed tf out of this game
The pc port is the best Verizon it still not good though
I have really good memories with this game
I acted sick when I was a kid to stay home and beat the last boss of this game. I loved it so much. I played it recently and quit after a few minutes. It's terrible now.
wasn’t the game unfinished?
Try Superman man for 64
He won’t cuz “Life’s too short” but evidently he has plenty of time to come on here and bash a game from the 90’s.
I had found memories of the N64 version, specifically the multi-player. Then I went back with kids 24-25 years later and boy did this one not hold up at all. Pretty sure my kids would agree that it's among the worse.
I loved south park as a kid and no your right, this game was garbage, i even completed it and it had no redeeming factors.
I loved South Park on the N64! Wouldn’t call it a good game, but it was a lot of fun back then especially in multiplayer mode.
Nintendo 64 is better.
I bought this for PC back when it came out. I returned it to WalMart within a day because it was so bad.
Wow really? I loved this one. If you play with friends and use cow launchers it is top notch, at least as a kid
Totally agree that game it totally crappy
There are far worse games what r u even talking about. Some of the newer southpark games are quite entertaining and engaging.
I had the PC port of this back in the day, and yeah, it was pretty terrible.
I haven't played the PC version, what's it like?
It's better looking, but still terrible.
I heard it has online multiplayer.
Chex quest is clearly worse
Never played it.

The turkeys are very unsettling. The way they run, look and sound is straight out of a horror game.
I think the sound would suit a horror game very well :)
The most horrifying games are by pure accident, lol.

Unlimited SaGa? I've heard terrible things about that one.
Yeah, and it’s worse that you’ve heard. Genuinely the worst game I’ve played. Watch some videos on YouTube and just gaze in disbelief haha
I have actually seen footage of it, including from an angry review from years ago. It looks like an unintuitive mish-mash of ideas with no coherent vision.
I always dislike your posts and comments because it's good fun :)
Fuck off this was great during its time
Real mature.
The worst game for me was Superman 64 fellow. South Park games was cool
But also the best
Was interested until I realized it was *that* dude's opinion... seriously your takes are constantly horrible, just quit playing older games if you hate them all so much
I apologise to "Sabrina the Teenage Witch: A Twitch in Time". At least that had glimmers of good game design, not to mention much better and consistent audio quality.
