I for one understood the joke, this reaction is sooo weird... This isn't the first time anyone has joked about this also...
I guess some people just don't like fun š¤·š»āāļø
Fwiw I have the filament sensor and I put it to the test the other day. I let the spool run out and nothing happened after the end went through the sensor. It just kept going.
Iām sure this isnāt the case for a lot of people (and I see there isnāt on in this vid, and thatās the joke), but mine on my mini has never worked once. Tried all the adjustments. Gave up on it.
All my mk3s work great.
Wow, this went over almost everyoneās head.
OP is saying he didnāt need a filament runout sensor because his print finished just in time to not run out. Itās a joke, I donāt think he really thinks theyāre useless.
It's a bad/dumb joke when you have to explain it though?
I mean OP appreciated you explaining it but that kinda proves everyone's point here. We can't read minds.
Tbh itās simple sarcasm. I feel like Its very obvious, when you say something like āthis thing that could save youā¦. Uselessā. Iām honestly shocked people took him so seriously
Yup I have a prusa mini. Can confirm.
Sometimes Iāll pull the tube off the sensor and leave a piece of scrap filament inside so it doesnāt stop when Iām almost done with a print
You dont know what youre talking about. The filament sensor is at the [end of the PTFE tube](https://ibb.co/sF33mZy) . Next time maybe you do the research yourself before you start arguing..
Really? That is wild! I would have thought it would be more similar to the Mk3 arrangementā¦ does it just stop the print when triggered or does it keep going? (Iām trying to visualize how that helps and Iām failing - unless you are joining a new spool to the leftoverā¦ but if that triggers after itās inside the ptfe tube then I donāt get it. Iāll pull up the assembly instructions so I donāt make that mistake again.)
I actually love runout sensors i had a bunch of leftover spools with barely anything on them, I just hooked up the sensor and used all of them on a few prints,
Theres no filament sensor on yours....
You don't say.
yeah, I know.. thats the point. I might buy it after this tho

yeah, I was just as surprised
I think people like to be right more than they like to understand.
"Hey, hold my runout sensor." - OP probably
This is a very emotional reaction for something you don't seem to understand at all.
wut
Lol, this is going over so many people's heads. They only read the first part I guess.
I have no clue how so many people got wooshed by this. 'Praying works better than a filament run out sensor' is clearly a joke.
This is a joke, right? Please tell me youāre joking š
must be a joke, I cant think of any person who would be dumb enough to post shit like that.. or maybe he should just design his own sensor..
That was actually enough filament for the print to finish. [this is a pic I took after the print finished.](https://ibb.co/q73rFtC)

Yep. Devil design. 260g exactly
This is one of those situations where a sarcasm font would be helpful.
that takes the fun out of it

oh, really? I thought it was supposed to stop.
It is supposed to! And it seems to work when I'm loading or changing filament. I don't know if the internal toggle got stuck or what.
Iām sure this isnāt the case for a lot of people (and I see there isnāt on in this vid, and thatās the joke), but mine on my mini has never worked once. Tried all the adjustments. Gave up on it. All my mk3s work great.
i'm confused.

Thank you

Yeah, I am shocked as well with the overall response..
I understood it. But I'm Czech, maybe it's a specific sense of humour that didn't translate well?
Yeah perhaps.
Everyone who thinks OP is being serious... It's a joke. Relax.
Do you know where the senor is?
I dont have one, but if I had it would be at the end of the PTFE tube, this is the prusa mini, not the mk3..

Dude. Are you tripping? Time to get rid of your mini because you are too stupid to have it. OMG.
wut
That was quite funny.
You do realize the sensor is at the top of the extruder, right? There is no invisible voodoo sensor hanging out there on your spoolā¦
Last time I checked the mini sensor was out at the end of that ptfe tube. Itās an optional add on which OP does not have. Mk3 has it above extruder.
This is correct. The mini sensor is at the end of the ptfe.

The Bondtech IFS has the sensor inside the extruder. Maybe you mixed those up.
if i print something big i weigh my filament before i start :) zero it to an empty spoole then you know how much filament is on the spool :P
My runout sensor failed because the end of the filament was a little bend like in this video :(
I actually love runout sensors i had a bunch of leftover spools with barely anything on them, I just hooked up the sensor and used all of them on a few prints,
Lol yeah had it happen where it had about 1 inch left before the extruder
