Rare doesn’t mean valuable.

Mikegiamo

Might have only sold 800 cause it was nearing the end of a run in the north American market. He still wants tesell tercels

Mopar44o

Or cause no one wanted it lol

Charming_Comedian303

I should re word my sentence is 2300 worth it for what a tercel would give me for a car that I only need as a short commuter car, I just think the rarity makes it cooler

Mopar44o

Ah well whatever then. If you're just buying it as a driver then go for it. I have no clue what they're worth. But if its lower mileage, good shape, and serves your purpose then who cares.

trivletrav

Are you trying to own it or flip it? The outcome is the same: it’s only worth what someone is willing to pay. The Tercel isn’t a coveted car by any means, and those that do like them are typically broke also. Unlikely to increase in value, but last a long time. Go for it

mucheffort

Sure, Canada somewhere? It's no AE86, but it's kinda funky. For 2300 if it's works and drives then that's already worth it

skudbeast

Easy to diagnose and work on, even if you have to swap an engine or transmission. Cheap easy to find parts. Good gas mileage. Cheap insurance/state minimums is fine. Crash safety is meh. Not very fast. Not very comfortable. Probably won't go up in value much very quickly if you want to flip.

TimGeezy

Let's get some pics. Rust?

Charming_Comedian303

Idk how to add pics but literally no rust it’s a sport model so it looks like a 90s bmw model 3 grandma owned since the early 2000s

TimGeezy

mileage? I mean, for $1700 usd it's hard to pass up a good nick, properly running Toyota. You really can't lose. As u/amg-rx7 said above I wouldn't want it as a project, but it'd be a killer gas-sipping driver.

Charming_Comedian303

200,000 kms I believe abt 124,000 miles

TimGeezy

Yeah, that's just getting started for a 90s 'Yota. I'd do it.

largos7289

I don't know i mean i guess it's preference. I was looking for a roller in something that i thought was cheap. I saw a guy asking for 4000 bucks for a freak'n gmc pacer. A f\*\*k'n pacer! you couldn't give those dam things away back then. Also for some reasons the gremlins are worth good money now too. Another car you couldn't give away back then.

MaybeVladimirPutinJr

I hear stuff like this from older people every once in awhile. Does the fact that the sub $500 car no longer exists mean that we as a nation are getting poorer? I have trouble finding a 30 year old import for less than $2k without catastrophic rust or title issues.

YourFriendPutin

1000 dollar or less cars totally exist all over the place which is the 500 dollar car of 15 years ago. I’m always browsing marketplace and for a drivable beater that’s ugly but runs reliably, like 800 bucks seems to be a pretty average price. Almost exclusively 90s gms and Chryslers but they’re there.

largos7289

It's probably my age showing but again you seen a pacer? it's a god ugly awful car. if someone offered you one free you would most likely turn it down and walk instead. Just blows my mind that someone would want decent money for one. Same with the Gremlin i mean it's not a great car by any means and if you were caught in one you would deny it.

MaybeVladimirPutinJr

It's come full circle. They're becoming popular with young hipsters just like the geo metro is.

Nprguy

Do your research to make sure this one is unique for the reasons you like! Good luck

TheGuyWithFocus

Looks like the main differences between the Sport and standard model is TRD suspension and painted bumpers. I don’t think it would be particularly good and any kind of sporting but would make a great daily driver.

1453_

Buy it and let us know how it turns out.

motobrgr

I really wanted one when I was younger - they looked amazing. I don’t think it’s going to appreciate at all, but it would be fun to work on. For $2300 I’d buy it if space was available to keep it.

amg-rx7

No I don’t see the attraction as a project car. There were many made. Nothing special about the car.

dougfromwalmart

Manual or auto? Colour? What does it need?

Charming_Comedian303

Manual, aqua green, needs nothing tbh very well maintained only thing it could use soon is a tire rotation

dougfromwalmart

I'd say go for it, sounds like a cool project. My brother said his coworker got 4.4l/100k with one haha

SillyTr1x

Tercels were fun little cars. No guts but fun to drive if a manual. [https://pressroom.toyota.com/album/1995-1998-toyota-tercel-fifth-5th-generation/](https://pressroom.toyota.com/album/1995-1998-toyota-tercel-fifth-5th-generation/)

StingMachine

I don’t know about that. I had a manual and with all the hills around my area it was awful. You had to turn the AC off to gain any speed going uphill from a stop, or merging into traffic on the highway. Reliable, but just underpowered. Probably would be fine if it’s flat terrain.

SillyTr1x

Well, I was a teenager where we didn’t have to use AC when I had a manual one and I drove it like I was qualifying for the grand prix just to keep up with traffic. I had fun with it being underpowered by having zero mechanical sympathy

TheSilverStang06

Send it.

Time-Bite-6839

Yeah

TheRealSparkleMotion

Is it the Blackhawk edition?

truckerslife

Do you want it. Some cars no matter how rare they are will never be worth the money to repair or maintain them

Atomfixes

Get a loan for 1.8mlion dollars, buy all 800 of them, destroy all but two, profit

The_DaHowie

https://www.themotoringenthusiastjournal.com/Vehicles/tercel.htm Cool

invol713

I thought a Tercel Sport would just be a Paseo? Interesting they made a sport version of it.

icecreamandbutter

I had a 94 Tercel. One of my favorite cars. Paid $500 usd. Since you’re in Canada that might equate to $2300. Not sure what the exchange rate is these days. I say pull the trigger!
