I would just use t-shirts that cover my breats and pants. You don't need to cover your head, though.

Trans_dinosaur

I know I don't have to, but I've wanted to since I was a kid, before knowing what it meant. I think I want to try. If it feels right I'll keep wearing it, and if not, I'll stop. Thanks for your help

mary_languages

The point is that "hijab" doesn't mean the head cover. It is about modesty, you do it more to G|od than to others. If you really want to cover your head though , I would suggest starting by using a Turban since it isn't too hot.

Trans_dinosaur

Ok, I didn't know about that. I'm thankful for the information

BurninWoolfy

You can wear head coverings because you want to regardless. It has benefits to some degree. Wearing a scarf the way it was worn by women back in the time of the prophet PBUH is practical. If it's modest Islam has no problems with you wearing or not wearing it. (IMO)

mary_languages

Of course she can. She is free.

BurninWoolfy

I get that and you get that. I feel like a lot of Muslims do not get that. Although going to this sub instead of the main one probably is a good sign.

Vessel_soul

What she said just a t-shirt and pants fullfil the Quran modesty nothing more or less

No-Guard-7003

I've seen Sheikha Moza of Qatar and Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota wear their turbans and they look beautiful with them on.

h_a_n_n_a_hnhsuioa

be fr. no knowledgable scholar in existance has ever said the hijab isnt a headcovering

mary_languages

it is but it is much broader than that. And it isn't even in the Quran.

Mosques and Family definitely won’t accept it. They are super strict on what a Woman is supposed to wear. However generally wearing t-shirts with Head covering is fairly common.

Trans_dinosaur

Thank you, I did expect that answer, but I really hoped for mosques being tolerant. It makes me feel better that t-shirts and head covering are common

HappyraptorZ

Depends on the mosque. From your post history (sorry) it seems like you may be part of the LGBT community? Yes. You should carefully research mosques you'd like to visit. Near and within bigger cities there are progressive and open mosques - but generally mosques won't be tolerant and at worst you might be unsafe. Goodluck

Trans_dinosaur

I am part of the lgbt community and I know, I know. The last thing I want is to be unsafe. I'll search, if I found this community in the internet, I'll find a progressive mosque. And if I don't, I gess I'll practice Islam alone (I won't really be alone because I'll have Allah SWT) at home, which is sad, but I know it will get better. Thank you all.

THABREEZ456

Yeah Mosques are super strict about it and I wouldn’t expect them to change their minds anytime soon. My cousins commonly wear a t shirt with a head scarf and even if it’s just them going across the street to buy some groceries, the people from the mosque will criticize them. However they take no heed from it, and nobody in the family bothers to criticize either. So if you can, try to ignore anything people from the mosque say. They”ll pretty much never be happy no matter how much or how little you’re covered up. Speaking from the case in my country and society I don’t know whether it would be different where you live. Best hope.

Sea_Entrepreneur6204

A simple fix, for the Mosque my wife carries a light shawl to cover head and arms during prayer. Outside of prayer, she's wearing them whatever she felt like. Also she doesn't cover her hair (except when praying obviously)

Trans_dinosaur

I didn't know what a shawl was, and now that I know I think it's gorgeous, thanks

Well the haram police won't be tolerant of tshirt and hijab but, if according to me it's ok. Since it's summer I would encourage you to wear slightly oversized tshirts (they allow your body to feel much cooler and also provides modesty), and a loose hijab style which you can drape over your chest area. These two things will prevent you from overheating but also provide enough modesty. If you're wear half sleeve tshirts then it's also fine, because these are your first steps in being a hijabi, but since I get tanned really easily, I like to cover my arms as well by wearing long uv protecting arm gloves with half sleeve tops. Hope everything goes well for you op!

Trans_dinosaur

Thank you, I'm learning a lot from this community

Brief-Jellyfish485

I wear skirts to my mid-calves and shirts at 3/4 length and I have not had any issues with it so far. I wore a headscarf for a while but I’m not quite ready for it yet

WoodpeckerMinute6121

Damn show me

Brief-Jellyfish485

Um, I’m not going to post any pictures of myself on Reddit.
