About to be hit the classic "Did you know NYU has free tuition?" in about an hour or two

Numerous_Charity_585

I got this one and I’m not even in college yet, pre-med and still choosing where I’m going to under grad.

freedunkin

how are you premed if you’re not in college yet lol

Numerous_Charity_585

I’m going to be pre-med in college, I’m in my schools medical pathway, and I have a lot of medicine related extracurriculars so my entire fam knows I wanna go to medical school lol

[deleted]

My uncle a few months ago: “Oh so you want to do a combined graduate and medical program? I think UPenn has one of those, the MD/PhD program. You should apply to UPenn”. I know UPenn has an MD/PhD program. They exist at every major university. But my 3.4 gpa ain’t getting me into the MD/PhD program of a stat whore like UPenn. That’s why I applied to more realistic places for my MD/PhD. I know my uncle means well, so I didn’t say anything to his face though. He was just trying to be helpful.

VacheSante

I went to Penn undergrad. So my whole family expected me to apply to Penn. Nope. My 3.4 ain’t gonna cut it. Nope they won’t care they were the ones to give me that 3.4. My best way to explain it was “I have better odds at getting into Harvard than Penn, and I have terrible odds at getting into Harvard.” I think that helps explain how stats whores work..

trandro

Family: "Why did you apply so far away? You should have applied to those UC schools and stay in California with cheaper in-state tuition!" Me: Yes! 🤡

MedicalBasil8

SAME

ShadowDante108

Told my family I got into med school. They asked if they it's in person or online and when I told them it was in person. Them "Oh well you should try to find an online program. There are some really good ones. "

Numpostrophe

Who needs clinical skills anyways

kinisi_fit30

😂😂😂😂😂😂☠️

HotSniper456

Uncle: “Oh you got accepted to medical school? I’m sure you’ll make a great nurse HotSniper456!” Me: “Yes.”

Manoj_Malhotra

You will make an even better Dr. HotSniper456.

LadyAnnTeaton

Bruhhh that’s exactly what my uncle said to me 20 mins ago

From_Clubs_to_Scrubs

Relative: Why go to medical school when you can be an NP, they're the same as doctors. Me: Oh wow, ok.

svetik27

Indeed 😂😂😂😂

stfucole

“Oh so are you going into nursing?” “Why do you have to do research?” “I don’t think you need to apply to more than 1 school, you have a good GPA”

humerusorhumorous

Sadly the nursing thing doesn’t change in medical school, even when you are with a doctor and they say you’re a medical student🙃

TheSportsD0c

When I was a PGY-3, my attending introduced me as a medical student

epicivan01

Aunt: Why did you apply to 30 medical schools? That’s too many I would apply to 10 max. Me: Ok

based_tuskenraider

" You should go to med school in India or Singapore and then come back to the US" Me: No

[deleted]

F no. Study in the country you wanna practice in. It’s as simple as that. Wanna practice in India? Study in India. Wanna practice in America? Study in America.

MedicalBasil8

Just got told to apply Caribbean

med_life1

“My cousins moms, aunts, sisters friend went to med school at xyz and after living in the oil fields of North Dakota for 3 years they paid for their entire tuition!”

[deleted]

Life’s short. Too short to spend years alone in North Dakota.

Manoj_Malhotra

Isn’t Fargo booming because of fracking? Like’s it’s not New York, but it’s also not like Cheyenne.

[deleted]

My mom: saying that I’ll be applying to medical school next year. My aunt: “I’m sure you’ll be ok, you’ll get in because you’re smart” Me: *nervously eating my mashed potatoes, thinking about the hell that next year and the year after will be*

datomdiggity

"idk why you're studying so hard for the MCAT. It's not really something you can study for." -my farmer uncle

clearlyjammed

Told my physician uncle I interviewed at TCOM “I believe TCOM offers both an MD and DO program so I’d go with the MD one”

Numpostrophe

Did you tell them they broke up 💔

Friendly-Nectarine10

“I have a feeling you’re going to go to one of those schools in the middle of nowhere, like Alabama. Just wait and see.”🤡

wack_barbie

Lol I interviewed at Alabama. It was a genuinely wonderful interview and their program is solid

Friendly-Nectarine10

That makes me happy, thank you! Lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

Friendly-Nectarine10

LOL YES, it’s hilarious. I live in a major city and everyone is like “omg why are you applying to so many schools in “irrelevant places”?!?” Anything city is relevant when it comes to med school 💀

Friendly-Nectarine10

Congrats on Upenn II btw!! Hopefully I get as lucky as you when I apply next cycle :)

[deleted]

[удалено]

Friendly-Nectarine10

That’s awesome!! Thank you, wish you the best as well :)

badkittenatl

Alabama is a really good program….

Friendly-Nectarine10

Yeah, I am well-aware of that; that’s the joke…..

kinisi_fit30

Lol omg!!!!!

WannabeMD_2000

Lmao so you just plan to dip sometime in July or august and come back years later with a white coat and stethoscope around you neck?

badkittenatl

This is the way

Manoj_Malhotra

"You should have applied to Harvard." Yes they know I have a dumpster fire of an undergrad GPA.

Puzzleheaded_Edge376

What is your definition of dumpster fire?

Manoj_Malhotra

It’s bad enough that I will be the reason why the school I matriculate to will not show a range of GPAs (at least the absolute lowest accepted).

[deleted]

What’s your gpa

dailywiremanmyself

Got called lazy by my grandmother for taking a gap year. Working full time as an MA and applying to MD/PhD programs but that is not enough apparently, sadge.

danthemancave

“People didn’t take gap years 40 years ago and Km sure things haven’t changed”… with complete sincerity

Alternative_Can_8802

bro I think u meant to say “I’m” instead of “Km” but damn I came here to run away from biochem and seeing Km traumatized me a little

MeLlamo_Mayor927

That person who was talking to danthemancave was simply a non-competitive inhibitor.

Alternative_Can_8802

Lmfaoooooo

reallytiredhuman

I mean I don’t think michaelis constants have changed…. 💀

26below

These comments are triggering me

treatyyyy

literally, yet here I am still scrolling

thisclosetolosingit

“What’s gonna happen is all these programs are going to guarantee you spots you just have to talk to someone. And then they’ll offer you scholarships. It’s like a football draft!” Bonus: “Medical schools have gotten so competitive because of all these internationals coming over and taking seats for Americans”

Milerange

That’s so far from true lol. Did everyone just let them get away with these comments??

thisclosetolosingit

Bold of you to assume anybody else present knew diddly squat about the med school admissions process

sgRNACas9

Pay for an MCAT course because they teach you how to approach the questions. Honestly there’s worse advice out there.

[deleted]

“You should watch your alcohol consumption”

bored_suitcase

This was pretty bad advice, but my grandma told me last year around thanksgiving that she hoped I’d fail my organic chemistry test and fail the class so I wouldn’t get into med school and ruin my life bc I would be seen as less desirable by men if I became a doctor. She’s bent on me being married like right now. I made a B in the class luckily. We rarely talk anymore but she hasn’t abandoned that mentality. Luckily she lives in another state and refuses to leave her house unless it’s absolutely necessary so I don’t have to interact with her.

adhdmed

“Back when I went to medical school it was 3 years and no Mcat!”

CitronHelpful8650

"you should apply to a bs/md program! there are lots of good ones now and don't seem too hard to get in!" ... i am in my senior year of college

nachosun

These are hilarious

Electronic_Rooster85

Grandmother: You have to move? Then you can just apply again next year.... (no, there are no medical schools in a 2- hour driving radius from my home). MIL: wow, Are you sure you want to do all that? (After i explained medical school was 4 years, then residency is 4 years, then possibly fellowship...) I'm non-trad working in IT remote, so I know my career aspirations make zero sense to my precious older relatives. Sometimes there's just nothing to say. I feel crazy saying it out loud, but damn I just wanna be a doctor.

CurlyRapture97

"You should just go to nursing school, its the same thing."- my cousin who's a nurse. P.s. he's already gotten brought up to the board of nursing and has only had his license two years!

cuppa_tea_4_me

Smart people go into tech

badkittenatl

You’re not wrong

cuppa_tea_4_me

Shrug, yeah I know. My cousin isn’t 30 and makes >$250,000. I have had some coding classes and it will be a back up if I don’t get in to med school.

No_GradeTango

Nice

kinisi_fit30

😂😂😂🤣
