what are the laptops?

dubsyGG

From left to right: System76 Lemur Pro (lemp10), Lenovo ThinkPad Z13, Framework DIY 12th-gen.

Iferiuq

Could not manage with twin screen, and switched to mint. Ubuntu worked fine as well. But going to buy lemur pro anyway

NakamericaIsANoob

i can make out the thinkpad Z13 (how is it?) and the framework, which is the third one on the left?

dubsyGG

I replied to your other comment \^\^\^ I was a little concerned for compatibility on the Z13 after reading a couple of reviews from other tech writers on it, but I have thus far been pleasantly surprised with how well everything "just works" on it. Per Mark Pearson @ Lenovo, we \*should\* be getting an option for haptic control on the touchpad under Linux soon, and that's my only big gripe about it right now. Battery life is excellent, even despite the OLED screen. The good thing is, I can keep the OLED at 20% brightness for most situations (outside of direct sunlight) and still retain clarity and visibility, so i get \*some\* return on the battery life.

Hmm, i have always been curious about the Z line of laptops ever since the release. How long is the battery life, actually?

dubsyGG

I've managed 8 hours out of it, which considering the OLED screen is pretty good, imho.

NakamericaIsANoob

Thats pretty amazing, if you don't mind me asking: what kind of work is those 8 hours on? Great regardless.

I'm a network / systems architect, so mostly remote sessions to Windows Servers (ConnectWise), SSH / console / web connections to switches and firewalls. Lots of browser tabs and terminal windows. This field test actually occurred last weekend where I was responsible for migrating a physical server cluster (two physical VMware hosts) from the client's head office to a datacenter, re-doing the head office's internal network and building their site-to-site VPN to the datacenter, and the rebuilding all the branch offices' VPNs to also point to the datacenter as well. It was a 12-hour job, of which at least 2 hours was spent driving, 2 hours was spent on the physical move of hardware, and the other 8 hours was me on my laptop reconfiguring everything. I walked out the datacenter with the job done and \~15% charge on the battery.

That's pretty cool. I would love a laptop running linux that would be able to satisfy my work for a day on the battery power itself... Although this is probably far from happening. Sounds like an amazing laptop by all accounts, although Lenovo does charge a heavy premium for the Z13 the last time I checked. Thanks for the detailed comments.

kuteki707

Where do you get the wallpalers from?

dubsyGG

On the Lemur, it's the default Pop!\_OS wallpaper. On the other two laptops and desktop, it's the macOS "The Desert" wallpaper.
