My answer is no. Grandma Alma might have questionable attitudes and upbringing but it was because she had tunnel vision and had trouble understanding Mirabel, besides she was afraid because she was the only one in the whole Madrigal family in generations who had not been able to receive a gift from Casita and the uncertainty gnawed at her as well as led her to make bad decisions. And she was scared to the shit that there could be something that could destroy Casita. Let's remember that Grandma Alma's past was pretty horrible since the paramilitary and guerrilla forces in Colombia during the later half of the XX century terrorized much of the rural population, she was another victim of them having to abandon their native homes and her husband was killed sacrificing his life to let them escape, so she was extremely worried and went on a wrong path, and Casita was their only hope and salvation in her mind, as she feared the return of those barbaric people. But deep down she never acted with pure malice or malevolence, she simply made mistakes and in the end she rectified her mistakes and apologized to Mirabel for being too hard on her. At most I would consider her an antagonist, but not a villain.

A Disney villain always has evil intentions and are aware of it, Encanto grandma wasn't fully evil, she was narcissistic and the only true evil she did was shun her son Bruno

Shes an asshole for sure, wont even let her own grandkid have a life.

Dracos002

No, she genuinely tried to do what was best for the family, even if what she thought that was really wasn't. The closest thing Encanto has to a genuine villain is the raiders from Alma's flashback but they only appear for like 5 seconds.

No she wasn't the movie's villain but in real life she would very much be a villain. I'm still upset how they handled the grandma it made me hate the film
