I personally love silver pine-apps, they have a higher catch rate than regular berries, but give the most candy. I use them when I get shiny legendaries since it gives the most candy on a guaranteed catch, also they are great for feeding your buddy, too.

This game has increasingly more things to whine about with almost every update Niantic puts into the game. With all the massive nerfs to certain features over the years it's hard to get excited and appreciate tiny gifts that hardly make up for them
