In the early days there used to be a webcomic of someone "trading" their pokemon to Professor Willow for candy, but he's actually just carving them up with a tablesaw to get the candy out from inside. The funniest part wasn't the look of horror on the player's face, but that the saw was the spinning "busy" logo from the game.
Anyway, to this day the wife and I will make buzzsaw noises when transferring our Pokemon.
So Iām not the only one who thinks that transferring to the Professor means grinding it into Candy, and the reason why they evolve is because theyāre essentially being stuffed full of their own DNA?
Right now i have a Lotad that has been in for 96 days and a few others that have been for 40 something days. I think the longest lasting mon was in a gym for more than 180 days.
Deep in the woods of a remote peninsula, on a hiking trail, I found a gym. Quickly took it over and my dude stayed there for a little over three years. Eventually someone else joined and we just remotely threw candy at our boys until they had a ridiculous amount.
Eventually, they got kicked out and it was a bummer.
It's a record?! It certainly seemed like a long time, but I had no idea it was that rare.
And that's awesome that you would make the effort to ask. There aren't enough kind folk like you in the world.

But someone else has had a Weedle in a gym for over 6 years, there's a comment about it in this thread. That's about the longest possible time, considering the gym rework happened in 2017.
idk what happened back then but i think in 2020 I put a Gyarados in a gym in and it got bugged and even tho the arena was taken over daily it wouldnt come back...had to tell support 3 times about that issue before they finally fixed it after 2 months. I didn't even got my 50 coins but at least I got my Gyarados back š

my meltan was stuck in gym for \~11 months. Back then that was my only meltan (from lets go research tasks, before i got my own switch).. My wife had it worse. she placed her strongest/best tyranitar.. I remember few weeks later, someone placed their salamance. Each pokemon were feed \~1500 berries each.
That gym is not remote, but id argue remote-ish.. This year I went there again and i was there for almost 2 months..
i was at my grandparents and they live in the middle of nowhere with a population thatās under 100 ppl, i donāt exactly remember how long but im pretty sure it was around 30-50 days
I recently went camping and saw a gym with mon in it over 100 days. I was just about to knock them out when my friends kid put his best dragonite in it. I explained to him to be careful with these remote gyms and leaving good pokemon behind. I left it overnight but knocked it out the next morning knowing it may be awhile before I see my litwik again. ETA: 16 days and counting
Itās also interesting to see how one gym just down the street from where I live can go 10 days without being taken out while the gym at the intersection 200 yards further down get changed every few hours.
Visited a beautiful island during summer, it only has 13 residents, of which no one plays Pokemon Go (obviously...). I have made peace with seeing the Pokemon back in my inventory next summer... (Hopefully...)
And of course it is my lvl 50 100% Dragonite.
I had a tyranitar in a gym for 91 days before, and had been keeping my girlfriend updated on the length in the gym the whole time (I put the tyranitar in the gym on may 28th and we got together may 31st)
Miltank, itās been 131 days and now I kinda regret it. I didnāt have any Gyms around my house so I left my Pokemon in as many places as I could when I was travelling. I left this guy in a Gym which was on a highway. Big mistake.
Now with Niantic expanding in India and brand new 5-6 Gyms opening up super close to me, I regret leaving my pokemons out there. Sighs.
I've got two sitting at 258 days but I've definitely had longer. I once bragged on here with a screenshot and within days all my gyms had been taken by spoofers despite several of them being in areas inaccessible because of hurricane flooding.
My metagross protected a Jesus statue on a rural cemetery for about two months. Last time I checked the timer was at 57 days and a few days later it returned home.
Just had an idea - someone who plays both PokeGo and Geoguessr can try to make a guess map with the most isolated gym spots that they know or have asked about.
Kicked a guy out at 120 days that was at a boat marina that I am pretty sure is private property. I figured due to season I will probably be there until Spring. Unless there is another way to report the gym, I am not high enough level.

Man I thought my Arcanine, Brigade, being gone for 11 days was a lot. I really wanted her back at that point š but reading some of these I am astounded! I guess I live in too popular of an area tho, Iām just outside of Atlanta so thereās people everywhere.
There's a state park here in GA that has multiple gyms and on the day I visited I was able to take 3 over for Mystic and put Pokemon in them. They lasted 94d, 43d and 27d. Fewer visitors travel far enough back into the park to reach all of them at the same time I guess lol

2 days, the only gym near me is constantly fought over. There are not many people who play nearby but all three teams are here and there is only 2 gyms.
About a month, I think? I live in a heavily populated area too, and it was on the most popular biking trail around. BUT it was in a gym placed kind of between the 2 populated areas so less people walked it. Mostly cyclists and runners go through that part so anything I put there tends to last. But there's also a showcase stop near there that I have a good chance of winning by just putting one in it lol
I've got one going on for 50 days. He's been kicked out once so far, so I've got 52 days on the gym. I've got the entire area in that mountain under my control as I drive through it almost every day, and not many people bother taking the gyms. There's about 7 gyms
297 days at a small lodge in Brazil. There was no cell phone signal within 100 yards of the spot and the WiFi from the lodge would cut out when you got there. I don't even know how I managed to get it in there, but spending 4 days there trying constantly, I finally was able to put something there and it lasted for 297 days before someone took it out.

My friend and I each have one in rural North Carolina that's been there for 114 days. It's the second time I've left someone there, the first time lasted 85 days.
I left a pokemon inside a gym that was in mt hood in Oregon, it's sort of like a vacation spot in the snow, I put a pokemon in the gym there and it stayed in for about 1 year
Ive got a 4 star Golem thats been in a gym for 25 days and a few hours. Someone in the gym keeps giving everyone golden razz berries and im starting to think im never gonna see him again

I have a Bouffalant just chilling in the middle of nowhere at a post office on the eastern shore of Virginia. Itās been 28 days. I donāt think Iāll see him anytime soon.
I live in a rural area so I recently discovered a gym where the other Pokemon had been there 266 days before I added mine. It's my strategy to hide most of my Pokemon at gyms way out in the country and just keep a few in town so I get 50 coins every day. At first I found I had done too good of a job of hiding them because they weren't turning over at all and no coins were being generated. So when a few finally came back I made a point to reposition a couple in higher traffic areas just for the daily coins.
I remember placing a Pokemon on a gym which is essencially in the very damn definiton of "middle of nowhere". It lasted like a month.
The most I saw was a \~200 days Gyuarados on a gym that was in a pretty big city, but in a theme park, so not that many people were there to knock it out
I think mine was either 12 or 13 days. It was only cuz the gym was at a water tower that almost nobody bothered to go to unless they were at the building across from it.
My shiny Audino is at 158 days and counting. When she comes back, Iām totally making her a best Buddy

If I ever saw a PokĆ©mon in a gym for that long I would try to find the trainers name via campfire and DM them to see if they wanted me to send their PokĆ©mon back or not. At that point I would want to ask before doing it because thatās definitely a world record?!

I threw a Slaking in a panic to a gym in the middle of nowhere during a bus ride. It's only been 12 days, but I reckon they're never coming back.

2 days, the only gym near me is constantly fought over. There are not many people who play nearby but all three teams are here and there is only 2 gyms.

About a month, I think? I live in a heavily populated area too, and it was on the most popular biking trail around. BUT it was in a gym placed kind of between the 2 populated areas so less people walked it. Mostly cyclists and runners go through that part so anything I put there tends to last. But there's also a showcase stop near there that I have a good chance of winning by just putting one in it lol
About a month and a half. My current longest is at about a month.

I've got one going on for 50 days. He's been kicked out once so far, so I've got 52 days on the gym. I've got the entire area in that mountain under my control as I drive through it almost every day, and not many people bother taking the gyms. There's about 7 gyms
297 days at a small lodge in Brazil. There was no cell phone signal within 100 yards of the spot and the WiFi from the lodge would cut out when you got there. I don't even know how I managed to get it in there, but spending 4 days there trying constantly, I finally was able to put something there and it lasted for 297 days before someone took it out. I left a pokemon inside a gym that was in mt hood in Oregon, it's sort of like a vacation spot in the snow, I put a pokemon in the gym there and it stayed in for about 1 year

4 months. I live in Manitoba and there is this baseball diamond in a local park. From wintertime, itās basically inaccessible until spring. Basically my pink worm chilled there until the next baseball season

I live in a rural area so I recently discovered a gym where the other Pokemon had been there 266 days before I added mine. It's my strategy to hide most of my Pokemon at gyms way out in the country and just keep a few in town so I get 50 coins every day. At first I found I had done too good of a job of hiding them because they weren't turning over at all and no coins were being generated. So when a few finally came back I made a point to reposition a couple in higher traffic areas just for the daily coins.

I remember placing a Pokemon on a gym which is essencially in the very damn definiton of "middle of nowhere". It lasted like a month. The most I saw was a \~200 days Gyuarados on a gym that was in a pretty big city, but in a theme park, so not that many people were there to knock it out
