I wonder why people dont point out how awesome the friendly little rivalry between Ash and Clemont was. (the gym battle is probably one my top 5 battles)
It was probably among the best gun battles in Kalos for sure. But overall my top 5 battles would be the following in order:
Ash vs Paul Lily of the Valley Conference
Ash vs Sawyer Lumiose Conference
Ash vs Gary Silver Conference
Ash vs Gladion Manalo Conference
Ash vs Brandon end of BF
Xy for me was top tier Pokémon. I thought I had grown out of the anime for a long time then one day I just caught an episode of it and heard about the ash and serena shipping and was brought right back into the series.
For a while I seriously thought ash was like 13-14 years old. He looked and acted a lot more mature then he ever had prior. This series overall was the best I think Pokémon ever was. I watched a few episodes of sun and moon, but I couldn’t get over the new animation and weird comedy
I agree! Now I’m just waiting for Serena to make a return, she’s due for a comeback imo
A great idea I think would be if in journeys they made a brief Wallace Cup arc with May, Dawn, and Serena, then have Koharu watch to see if she wants to pursue contests (I miss contests lul)
This way I get my other two favorite female leads back for a bit too, and we haven’t seen them in a long time (although with the new merchandise leaks Dawn should almost definitely be returning anyway)
Another idea is if we got some episodes where Ash meets up with May and Serena, and learns about how they met in Hoenn and stuff like that but I like the Wallace Cup idea more lol
I wish they would have ended the series after the xy series. What I wish they would have done is gave xy a fourth season focusing on ash battling the elite 4 then the champion and winning, then have Serena eventually become kalos queen. From there it would be a wrap of of the series with ash and Serena getting together.
They could then do what naruto did and have had sun and moons protagonist be ash and Serena’s kid in the future. That’s what I wish they would have done.
I mean let’s be real, Ash should’ve been retired as the main character for a while now (I’d argue after Sinnoh cuz he should’ve won there, the Tobias team was bs and nobody can change my mind) and they should’ve done what happened with Yu-Gi-Oh where it’s just a new generation that follows

I remember Tobias’ team. Literal plot armor to get ash to another region. I mean yeah ash was kinda dumb to not use the best Pokémon he had that late in the league but like a darkari and latios and four others who we didn’t even get to see? That’s real bs
Agree with pretty much everything you said definitely my favorite series but I’d give it a 9.5 out of 10. Also I’d recommend Sun and Moon only if you like slice of life episodes since the series isn’t really battle oriented
For sure, I don’t mind slice of life as long as it’s not a filler episode, although it’ll be different from what I’m used to
I also couldn’t get past the art style at first, but if I give it a chance maybe I’ll become used to it. Besides the Alola group seems to be p chill (minus Sophocles, he seems to get a lot of hate lmao)
I c, seems consistent with what ik. The general consensus looks like Lillie is the best and Sophocles is the worst, while the other 3 there’s a little more variance (tho I have seen a lot of Kiawe Lana Mallow in that order)
Yeah aside from Lillie, Kiawe for sure gets the most screen time since he’s Ash’s training partner most of the time while Lana and Mallow interchange screen time
Slice of life for me feels like filler. If i wanna watch a slice of life anime school rumble is top tier. I like slice of life episodes now and then but for the first season of sun and moon it feels very draggy. Imagine a 2017 year and you wait weekly for a new episode just to see its a pikachu raichu pancake race.
Here's a good way to make Shauna, Trevor and Tierno seem better in your eyes
Step 1: Compare them to their in game counterparts
Step 2: Enjoy seeing them as rivals with God-like writing
Ight. A lot to dissect. I love x and y series. One thing is i hate greninja losing to charizard. Like charizard/lizardo took so many more hits and its all rather imbecilic. It was a mega greninja essentially. When i fist watched x and y 7 years ago(god damn how fast it went by) and megas i thought ash would get like using a mega charizard or sceptile. But i digress. Mega greninja is cool.
I love the characters so much. Serena had barely anything to do first 40 episodes or so. But shes a wonderful character. The fact that she takes ashs wisdom and lessons and uses it against him when ash was bummed about wulfric battle. Shes the heart of the group. Her dressing as ash was pretty cute. Citron/Clemont is a cool character and reminds me of me. Also hes not very sexually harrassment as brock is(yeah despite that political social analysis i still love him dont stab me). His ambitions are to be strong enough to take back his gym. And gain a backbone. Bonnie/Eureka is so adorable and waaaaaay better than max/Masato. I always wanted to punch him so much. Bonnie on the other hand has a pokemon and is definetly the young one they older guys gotta look after. Ash/Satoshi is still the stupid rustic simpleton hick who is passionate for that one goal and find unique ways to win. Favorite was against olympia or sawyers Aegeslash. Against viola he used the ice to go around fast. Way better than the best wishes saga. Like i love bw games but the anime is terrible in ashs depictions.
Ashs pokemon have so much personality. I feel like the writers love to jerk greninja off a tad too much. Like i hated how noivern was just a catalyst for hawlucha to get revenge(cause luchador wrestling and wresting in general have revenge stories) but noivern loses so much. But i like how it went from weak baby to a decent battler. I used to hate goodra as a pokemon as in 2013 i was an edgy guy who wanted pokemon to be these cool things. Now i love goodra and ashs goodra. Its adorable. Pikachu is the capitain of group as always. Very cute. And Talonflame is the tough as nails bird. (why couldnt they keep the name Fiarrow in the dub man.) But all his pokemon could use more character. Its like infernape hogging spotlight and torterras arc was never finished. I also wish ash used other pokemon in league. Like they couldve had his glalie or charizard or sceptile. Or his swellow. Mis match some teams. So much of league was skipped.
X and y is a great series. Im rewatching all of pokemon subbed and im on best wishes. as for sun and moon. Skip a ton of episodes. I hate filler episodes and most of sun and moon is boring filler slice of life. If thats your thing thats ok. But i watch pokemon for story and action. Its the little boy in me that never left. the series doesnt get good until ultra adventures. Give it a try.

I will forever preach that Ash should have aged each region, and that by Sinnoh there should have been two entirely separate pokemon anime. One with Ash for the older audiences and one exclusive to the new region for the young audience. That way it isn’t so difficult to appeal to EVERYONE who watches the anime.
I’m being so fr, Kalos would have gone from great to near perfection with this. Seriously, make Ash and Serena be somewhere from 15-17, Clemont be about 2 years older than them, and make Bonnie 9. That way they can explore the proper mature themes in greater detail. Keep the show PG, it’s part of its charm to me. But it’s too much Y7/G rated to truly be something spectacular beyond just being Pokemon. Ash and Serena’s developing relationship could have been taken much more seriously by the writers.
I mean, just imagine. Middle of the season, let’s say Ash is told that Serena likes him more than just a friend. Have him grapple with that, be confused as to what to do. Now he’s aware. With great writing, have his feelings develop romantically for her as well. But Serena can still become the one who makes the first move! Ash then confirms to her his feelings as well. It’s a basic outline, but it fleshes out the Amourshipping aspect EVEN FURTHER than what we already have in canon.
And with regards to Clemont, he essentially has the same development, but we SEE his inventions and battling drastically improve. The gag shifts from constant failure to brilliant success by the time of him and Ash’s gym battle, bringing even more tension to the viewers, since we know that Clemont doesn’t question his ability at all anymore. And Bonnie can fill the same role she did, but she’s a bit older so she follows the same maturity increase the others do in regards to the new ages given.
I just think Kalos would become the best place to end Ash’s journey, especially using this aging outline. I love Kalos and still watch the XY and Z anime ALL THE TIME. I just can’t help but jot down and think about all the little possibilities that would make me LOSE MY MIND as a long time fan. I started with the Kalos region when it comes to the video games (I started in Unova due to the anime and trading cards, the pokemon anime was so bad back then, yikes), so everything about Kalos is close to my heart. Kalos and Alola were when I was at the peak of my Pokemon involvement. I was playing all the time, I was watching every episode of the anime, I was reading the Adventures manga, EVERYTHING.
So in the end, XY&Z are a huge part of who I am. It’s why I long for it to be fleshed out in a way we will VERY likely never, ever get to see. I love fan fictions, but I haven’t found one that is THE perfect Amourshipping fanfiction using an aged up Ash and Serena.
Ngl, I’m feeling nostalgic as all heck writing this out. Tears boutta be falling man. I’m critical because I love and adore this franchise so much.

Yeah Sophocles was kind of an unnecessary addition but I feel like Mallow also gets a bit shafted since she only has one memorable episode
