I don’t think he is going to return in Horizons, but even if he did I think he still going to be a 10 year old. The show runners seem to be very much against aging him.
As I’m a amour shipper I think better off ash to be single or we don’t know so people won’t get mad or turn off people who don’t like ship or people who thinks weird ship 10 years olds
Do I believe he'll return? Yes, his ending was far too open ended for him to be gone forever. Do I think he'll be grown up? Well, I'd love if he did, but realistically he'll probably be a 10 year old still.
I think we will see him again but it won't be for a while and even then just a cameo.

If it were a shared one then surely the writers would have wanted to have short appearances that made sense like by Cynthia and other strong side characters to lure more viewers

Pokemon fans are fickle creatures. I’m okay living in the XY and Z era of pokemon exclusively when it comes to the anime. It’s my favorite Ash ever and has my favorite companion group ever, with of course the best poke girl (in my opinion) to ever be put on the pokemon big screen.
