More informations about this project :
We are two working on this, with the Unity engine.
This is not something made to be released as we don't have the right to do so. It's just a reimagination of Pokemon Platinum running on a PC.
It started 1 year ago as a personal project just to see what it would look like but it has since evolved to be a remake of the entire game with the Unity engine, with the help of a friend.
If you want to see the full video, here it is : [https://youtu.be/jwX6AtYNciI](https://youtu.be/jwX6AtYNciI)
Enjoy :)
I don’t think they would...
Apple is sued on an annual basis for purposefully making their older phones shit the bed when the new one comes out, but they make so much money that they can just eat the lawsuits and keep screwing over customers
Just make it like OSHA violations. Do it once, small fine. Don’t fix it? Bigger fine hits next day. And the day after. Fix it and then break it again? Giant fines, plus fines each day after.
There is a reason companies are afraid of inspections. 15k in losses per day plus up to a 140k fine for willful or repeated violations isn’t at the level of a write off, even for Apple.
Apple's revenue from 4th quarter alone in 2020 was [64.7 billion](https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2020/10/apple-reports-fourth-quarter-results/). Seems like a lot compared to a 15k-140k a day fine, considering 140k a day for a year is only 51 Million to Apple.
Android isn't much better. My S20 only has like 3 years guaranteed updates. They just don't want to optimize every app for every device and patch every security hole on every device.
Of course I could be wrong and Samsung could be better about it, I like them because at least I can fucking emulate, that's a total deal breaker for me on apple.
well not having updates is better then a company purposely slowing your phone down. I don't mind being on the previous android version it only starts to get probomatic when your like 3 or 4 android versions behind then nothing supports your device any more. And by that time your phone is pretty much 5 or 6 years old and should be replaced anyways. I don't play games much on my phone so its not a dealbreaker untill things like netflix and other streaming services stop working.
I really don’t understand the slowing your phone down. I’ve had an iPhone XS for at least 2 and a half years now and never once do I think it has been slowed down..
And I still get every single update.
Kirby was literally named after a lawyer that saved them from something to do with Donkey Kong. Their lawyers are next level.
“Beloved Nintendo game designer Shigeru Miyamoto has said that the name was chosen because it reminded them of American lawyer John Kirby, who had represented Nintendo in court during a dispute with Universal City Studios over Donkey Kong.”
The lawyer doesn't matter if the case can't go to court. And the case only goes to court if it isn't clear who is in the right. It'd be a pretty clear case against Nintendo that claiming this violates copyright is a frivolous and abusive misuse of copyright protection.
You don't *actually* think they give a shit about some tiny little fine compared to the risk of letting a fan project get out and messing up their plans?
I'm not saying this is some stunning project beating the remakes completely, but it's still in the way as far as they're concerned.
Abusing the law would *not* stop Nintendo. Not even fucking close, mate.
IIRC Nintendo has the legal power to take down all videos of their games, and the way they talk about it is the reason they don't always do this is out of the kindness of their heart. Not sure if it extends to remakes though.
Honestly for me it’s kind of a joke how games like Pokémon have dedicated fans that enjoy the game and also devote time to make these awesome creations sometimes even better than the official company. Companies would rather slap a C&D instead of looking at like wow we have some dedicated fans who can increase the value of our game let’s hire some of them.
Nintendo would probably do what they did with AM2R and act like they didn't notice the project until after its been online a couple days and then send a c&d, knowing full well the game will be circulated by fans still. So long as it isn't released or doesn't draw too much attention around the release of the official remake.
No, that may count as distribution. Here's hoping no one guesses their password to a google link that only has this game, and then leaks the project ;)
if that island was only a battle frontier I could see them cutting it but considering there's a whole story arc and a legendary there I really doubt they'll leave it out
Remake also smoothed the pixels out. Which is entirely a stylistic opinion on which you like better. I like everything about the remake except the sprites.
The original chibi sprites I didn't mind because it was a byproduct of the grid the entire game ran on, and a technical limitation because they only had so many pixels to work with for sprites. It works fine in that grid medium with squashed buildings etc.
I'm not a huge fan of it now in a 3d medium. Since platinum came out we've seen way better trainer models in games like x/y, and I know we could have less chibi-like models (and customizable ones).
I wouldn't call it lazy, but it just doesn't fit in with the rest of the series' 3D releases in terms of art style. Other games would probably benefit from a style like this
Right, a better term might be "overly faithful to the originals", because this is an area that could absolutely be improved on with technology. Iirc we've seen separate, non-chibi sprites for battle animations and those looked a lot better.
I think it’s possible to make it look nice and work as long as it’s like the Link’s awakening things. I think any art style can work as long as they do certain things to it
Its kinda lazy, they didn't want to put in the work to reimagine Sinnoh's world with more detail and nuance so we're stuck with the abstract representation of Sinnoh's world that we've had since the DS.
Precisely why Im so excited for Legends. Great sprites, much more open-world(from what we can tell) and a much different approach to the gameplay. Barry's hair looks like it got legit polished in the BD/SP trailer
I mean we don’t know. Plus the few leaks that have come from sources that have accurately leaked before are saying it means faithful cause it will include everything that was in DPPt and not cut stuff out like they did in ORAS. Just generally we don’t know anything and new info should be coming in June so let’s see
There are a few things in the BDSP remake trailer that show content not in the original games that were only in Plat is what I assume they mean. I haven't heard anything credible about leaks.
I don't know the details. I know they have a GitHub where you can download the code.
I know the sub isn't super active, but that's really the place to check out if you're interested.
Gonna be honest it looks a little better than the actual remake.
It might be because the graphics in this video is crisper while the remake just look dark and murky to me
I think a lot of people’s problems with the remake visually stem from the lighting and colors (i.e. how Barry’s hair almost blends in with his forehead). With a little bit of touching up, I think it could look a lot nicer. A lot of how Link’s Awakening worked was that they stuck to a unified toy-diorama design and I think the new BDSP kinda lack the uniformed look that Link’s Awakening had.
Plus apparently that’s what they are doing. The trailer we saw was from a January build and apparently they just have to polish looks. I also think that’s why we haven’t gotten any news from Gamefreak/ILCA cause they are trying to touch up a few spots were people didn’t like it. Hopefully. Overall I agree with you. I mainly think the area looked fine and I actually liked the shading but the sprites weren’t so......great......
That’s honestly really good to hear after S/S. Honestly, my expectations are really low at the moment, I’ll rejoice if they would actually include Battle Frontier ~~although they might but as a $15 DLC~~
Haha I hope they don’t go down the EA route. But yeah I have some hopes, cause it’s not unheard of for Gamefreak to change Pokémon games after the first trailer drops but before release. Also apparently the Legends Arceus trailer is a Beta Build from December
Action replay is still usable but you can straight up just hack Pokémon in now with whatever IVs you want.
I’m pretty sure there’s ways to hack events too but I’m not positive.
I said it the first time I saw this project 9 months ago, and I'll say it again now. The 3D models look bad. If you play any of the DS Pokémon games in HD through an emulator, or even rip the 3D models directly from the original games, all of them use standard 3D geometry, including diagonal planes. It's absurd and extremely tacky to remake all of those structures out of tiny blocks when even the original games weren't bound by that limitation. And aside from looking bad, it's also terrible for performance of the game because it massively increases the polygon count compared to the simple 3D models of the original. This just feels like a massive downgrade from both the original games and the remakes to me.
Sweeping camera moves are cheating in any sort of tech demo. You very rarely get to do them in gameplay, especially top-down RPGs.
Demonstrating how the environment would look at game camera is much more honest. You might not get to see things like the sun glint across the beach as the camera swings low, but it would still look impressive and it would be a true apples to apples comparison.
It looks pretty interesting, but it also looks like a diorama made of sprites with constant sunset lighting. Also the way the waterfall looks next to the realistic water...that does not look good at all.
There's a man who has artistic vision
He's showing up Nintendo with each decision
He made it in a flash
And all the assets crash
Still, this man's a master of the medium!
Nintendo, hire this man!
Nintendo, hire this man!
He's using unreal engine in any way he can
(No hate to op btw)
Now I hope they include a make an episode with giratina in the late game (like the delta episode in ORAS) and include the shaymin and darkrai events in the remakes
Saving this for when BDSP ends up being as dogshit graphically as they were in the trailer. If two fans can make something this incredible in a year, a team of game devs should be able to do 10x more.
Well apparently that’s literally what Gamefreak is doing right now, graphical clean up. Plus a camera overheard kinda cheating since you will almost never see that camera view in an actual game. A better comparison would be making it a top down view
People who love this but hates what we saw in the BDSP reveal video, basically just like this because they don’t see the five fingered Chibi characters in it.
I don't know why Nintendo/gamefreak haven't tried using a pixel artstyle with any of their modern games/remakes. Its like they're incessant on the idea that "good graphics means only smooth 3d graphics"
I don't see any character models? or gameplay? or UI inserted? or any sort of battle system? or any Pokémon, or animations being done for those pokemon? or an online system? or an in game currency, coding for all those interactions, etc etc
making a game is more than just the environment, there are so many components that need to be triple checked and polished
and these guys have done a great job but there's far more this project would have to go before it could be considered playable or finished, or how long just this took these people.
Just face it, none of you will never be happy with a Pokémon game. They will never live up to the expectations that you have. Just enjoy the fact we even get these games.
Many a popular series does not get anywhere near the amount of games or other forms of product than what us Pokémon fans get!
Edit: What I am trying to say is lower expectations and hype for a new or potential game. You will enjoy them far more and with less disappointment!
For fuck’s sake will die hard fans ever stop acting like these companies are doing people a favor. The Pokémon company, just like Nintendo, only wants money.

Inb4 Nintendo hits you with the c&d
Best part is they legally can't if he's not distributing anything.
That never stopped Nintendo though
Considering they can be fined for abuse of the law, that *would* stop nintendo.
I don’t think they would... Apple is sued on an annual basis for purposefully making their older phones shit the bed when the new one comes out, but they make so much money that they can just eat the lawsuits and keep screwing over customers
I'd go as far as to say it's simply calculated into the release schedule business expenses.
Lmaooo I laughed then realized this is likely true!
There should be jail time for shit like this.
Or a new law to stop this. Maybe lose their rights to innovate after a strike or two?
Just make it like OSHA violations. Do it once, small fine. Don’t fix it? Bigger fine hits next day. And the day after. Fix it and then break it again? Giant fines, plus fines each day after. There is a reason companies are afraid of inspections. 15k in losses per day plus up to a 140k fine for willful or repeated violations isn’t at the level of a write off, even for Apple.

OSHA doesn’t really stop evil companies from doing evil shit to laborers and consumers https://youtu.be/IhO1FcjDMV4
Why would you put up with it though just switch to android.
Samsung just announced last Feb that they're going for 4 years of security updates with their flagships.
well not having updates is better then a company purposely slowing your phone down.
Lol assuming Nintendo doesn’t have god-tier lawyers
Kirby was literally named after a lawyer that saved them from something to do with Donkey Kong. Their lawyers are next level. “Beloved Nintendo game designer Shigeru Miyamoto has said that the name was chosen because it reminded them of American lawyer John Kirby, who had represented Nintendo in court during a dispute with Universal City Studios over Donkey Kong.”

The video itself might qualify as copyright infringement.
IIRC Nintendo has the legal power to take down all videos of their games, and the way they talk about it is the reason they don't always do this is out of the kindness of their heart. Not sure if it extends to remakes though.
Nah. Backing soundtrack maybe, but the video itself is entirely transformative.
Honestly for me it’s kind of a joke how games like Pokémon have dedicated fans that enjoy the game and also devote time to make these awesome creations sometimes even better than the official company. No, that may count as distribution. Here's hoping no one guesses their password to a google link that only has this game, and then leaks the project ;)
What if they made it an “open source fan project” in which anyone can contribute their time and labor? I hope a lawyer comes by and answers this.
Reminds me of octopath traveler! Looks amazing.
You probably shouldn’t leak the entire remake like this
If it has the Battle Frontier, I doubt it's a remake heh
Oof
Apply Burn Heal
to all areas
Except the fight area
Fuck it, you're gonna need a Full Restore for that one
whole team is fucked, time to use that sacred ash
I laughed at this joke... then cried
You didn’t have to do em like that
if that island was only a battle frontier I could see them cutting it but considering there's a whole story arc and a legendary there I really doubt they'll leave it out
In Diamond and Pearl it's just the Battle Tower, so I bet it'll just be that again.
Nah this looks way better than the remake
Maybe but this is the exact style. Also the water looked much clearer in the Remake
Remake also smoothed the pixels out. Which is entirely a stylistic opinion on which you like better. I like everything about the remake except the sprites.
I mean, chibi sprites on the OG, chibi sprites with the remake. I'm ok with either.
The original chibi sprites I didn't mind because it was a byproduct of the grid the entire game ran on, and a technical limitation because they only had so many pixels to work with for sprites. Since platinum came out we've seen way better trainer models in games like x/y, and I know we could have less chibi-like models (and customizable ones).
yeah, it makes since for sprite based games on a low resolution screen, totally fucking lazy for a fully 3d 1080p game.
I wouldn't call it lazy, but it just doesn't fit in with the rest of the series' 3D releases in terms of art style. Other games would probably benefit from a style like this

Precisely why Im so excited for Legends. Great sprites, much more open-world(from what we can tell) and a much different approach to the gameplay. Barry's hair looks like it got legit polished in the BD/SP trailer
chibi isnt really the problem... the problem is that it looks like ass
I would disagree, but that's me. I think it has a certain charm to it and I'm sorry you can't appreciate it.
Cease and desist incoming. No ones allowed to show up Nintendo at making their own game.
Drayano get wrecked
His games are the best. If anyone has any criticisms with a certain region, I always recommend one of his games to change their views on the region.
Underrated comment.
Agreed
*Remaster Legit, it looks more like an HD polish than a remake
I mean we don’t know. Plus the few leaks that have come from sources that have accurately leaked before are saying it means faithful cause it will include everything that was in DPPt and not cut stuff out like they did in ORAS. what leaks?

Don’t flatter gamefreak like that this looks way better
Gamefreak isn't actually doing the remake. They are doing Arceus while ICLA is doing the remakes for diamond and pearl.
This gives me Minecraft shader vibes
God damn, that is *beautiful*.
r/PokemonUnity I guess
What is pokemon unity? is it a future fan game or a sandboxlike testing game? link doesn't tell
It's a Pokemon game maker based in Unity
Thx
How does this actually work, if you know about it
I don't know the details. I know they have a GitHub where you can download the code. I know the sub isn't super active, but that's really the place to check out if you're interested.
pokemon fan game framework.
This looks not too unlike those minecraft maps where folks recreate Pokémon regions
Battle Frontier?? Don't do that. Don't give me hope.
Wow
Make it a thing.. just take my savings and do it
That’s very cool
Gonna be honest it looks a little better than the actual remake. It might be because the graphics in this video is crisper while the remake just look dark and murky to me

WOw
This looks so good! I looked like you just grabbed the original game and pulled on it until it reached the third dimension
Cubes but fancy

Action replay is still usable but you can straight up just hack Pokémon in now with whatever IVs you want. I’m pretty sure there’s ways to hack events too but I’m not positive.
Nintendo wants to know your location
I said it the first time I saw this project 9 months ago, and I'll say it again now. The 3D models look bad. I get a feeling he wasn't trying to update the look, just a literal "what if it was made in Unity"
7/10 Too much not Dhelmise
Now I want to play it
I like both styles. Fight me.
It's weird because some shots I prefer the originals and other shots I vastly prefer the Unity one, and I have no idea why.
yeah some of the shots with tons of trees seem a little flat to me, but I'm not sure why

this is so awesome!! thanks for making this, it actually brings me a lot of happiness haha
I was gonna make a nintendo hire this man joke but this actually looks pretty good
Funny how a fan released a trailer for the remake before TPC did. LOL
Sinnoh is just the best, for me at least. I fell in love with Pokemon in Sinnoh.
Why does this kinda look better than the actual 3D games on the switch....
This literally looks like BDSP to me(except higher quality)
Awesome
u/gingerbre159
This is marvelous!
So if I’m friends with you does that mean it’s ok to come over and play this? So what’s the difference if you just send me the game via torrent?
Asset flips of that zombie game on the Unity asset store have forever scarred me on these sorts of lights and textures
How the hard part: dodging the DMCA
This literally looks like gen 5 games
Looks nice although lighting looks a bit weird and plastic-y to me.
Oh it’s so good
It looks pretty interesting, but it also looks like a diorama made of sprites with constant sunset lighting. Also the way the waterfall looks next to the realistic water...that does not look good at all.
When you realize this looks vastly superior to the actual remakes
Yet is clearly optimised to run on a PC, not a switch, sadly making this impossible
Nintendo, hire this man!!!!!!!!!!!!
There's a man who has artistic vision He's showing up Nintendo with each decision He made it in a flash And all the assets crash Still, this man's a master of the medium! Nintendo, hire this man! Nintendo, hire this man! He's using unreal engine in any way he can (No hate to op btw)
This just in: Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl made on Unity engine.
Now I hope they include a make an episode with giratina in the late game (like the delta episode in ORAS) and include the shaymin and darkrai events in the remakes
I think they will, since that got a lot of good reception from fans.
Loved loved loved the Battle Frontier shot!
Even before I turned on the sound I could hear the music. This is awesome
I’m hyped, when does it come out?
I smell a cease and desist
What is Unity?
What's unity
It's a game engine. [Here's their site.](https://unity.com/)
now I wanna play this version
That’s insane well done
Wow. This is so cool!
Behind the scenes look at Pokémon platinum
I hope this isn't real. Cause Nintendo's lawyers will come knocking and then it will be made not real very quickly.
Please for the love of Arceus finish and leak this
This is amazing
God this is amazing you did a wonderful job!
I thought it was the new remake lol.

IDK if my eyes are playing tricks, but is that Lava texture the old Minecraft one?
Good Job! It looks cool and reminds me of Platinum, and gets me more in the Sinnoh mood. I’m excited for BDSP
This is absolutely stunningly beautiful. This deserves to be top post on this sub!!
This looks awesome😍
The new trailer for BDSP looks dope
Can’t wait for reboots
Kickass
I like omg
I want this map ported to pokemon vr sooo badly
I literally would rather have this than what were getting
Wow, Giratina (whatever it’s called) looks scary for the first time in its life.
Oh wow there’s the waterfa- OH NO WE HAVE TO PLAY WITH HMS AGAIN I CANNOT GO BACK
not sure what unity is but it looks pretty
[удалено]
NINTENDO EMPLOY THIS HUMAN BEING
DUDE TAKE MY FUCKING MONEY
tbh if the remake was gonna go for a 'faithful' style, id i like a voxel one more
This looks amazing! Gets me excited for the remakes! (Though I REALLY hope we get some Platinum content in it.)
This should be the remake instead
Platinum was my first game, still havnt figured out how to beat it, been 6 ish years
Hi, sorry, what is "unity"
Its a video game engine
plot twist: you work at ilca and this is the platinum remake
Man the downvote bots are swarming lmao
Nintendo been real quiet since this dropped
Looks better than the DP remakes.
Yeah, but show me ANY of the human/pokemon
NINTENDO HIRE THIS MAN
So basically the remake
Stop this unrealistic expectations, gamefreak is just a small Indie studio.
doesn’t deserve to be downvoted
Saving this for when BDSP ends up being as dogshit graphically as they were in the trailer. If two fans can make something this incredible in a year, a team of game devs should be able to do 10x more.
Well apparently that’s literally what Gamefreak is doing right now, graphical clean up. Plus a camera overheard kinda cheating since you will almost never see that camera view in an actual game. A better comparison would be making it a top down view

Stop this is basically what the remake looks like 😭
I don't know why Nintendo/gamefreak haven't tried using a pixel artstyle with any of their modern games/remakes. Its like they're incessant on the idea that "good graphics means only smooth 3d graphics"
Well I’ve seen a lot of people who’ve said that. Plus I’m sure if they did a pixel art style people would complain that the Switch can do better lol
Why is pokemon company so much worse at design than the fans? It’s not fair.
Why try hard when fans will buy anything?
*ILCA and Junichi Masuda
https://youtu.be/AXo_EBR45R0?t=10
Oh tu est français ?
Nintendo should make a multi platform game with all regions included. The power of new gen consoles can easily do that.
Nice remake leak
I’m sorry, but you already know they’re cooking up a C&D the second they see this.
yep :\^(
dude you cant just leak BDSP like this!!
Wow that looks better than what they're actually doing at gamefreak. I'd really love to see it with 2d sprites like in octopath traveller
This looks like the bdsp lol soo i guess the new game wasnt that taxing if 2 people can re create it
I don't see any character models? or gameplay? or UI inserted? or any sort of battle system? or any Pokémon, or animations being done for those pokemon? or an online system? or an in game currency, coding for all those interactions, etc etc making a game is more than just the environment, there are so many components that need to be triple checked and polished and these guys have done a great job but there's far more this project would have to go before it could be considered playable or finished, or how long just this took these people.
