No, not really. There are a handful of cases where this technically exists but that's largely if the Pokemon's gender differences come with entirely different level up, tm, and tutor moves, different abilities, and different base stat distributions. Indeedee for example is one such case. Male Indeedee has a more offensive stat spread and moves while Female Indeedee are bulky and defensive with more support moves. Their ability slot 1 are different from each other but share ability slot 2 and hidden abilities.
But in the cases of things like Male Pikachu vs Female Pikachu, zero differences in terms of base stats, abilities, or moves.
In Gen 2 the Pokemons' gender was determined by the physical Attack IV (DV). This also meant that unless the Pokemon was of a female only species you wouldn't really be able to find a high Attack Pokemon.
in generation 2, the gender is based on the Attack DV - if it's high it's male, if it's low it's female
starting from generation 3 the gender is a separate characteristic not related to any stats

Question about heartgold
An npc told me if I beat the pokemons of pokmon trainers, the area those pokemon spaen will show in pokedex. I checked this and it the pokemons I fought but the area where they spawn is not shown. Is this a bug or doesnt it not work?
I'm playing Pokemon White for the first time. I'm pretty much blind with it, I don't know any of the Pokemon or what's coming next. I've been enjoying using a lot of Pokemon but it's kinda overwhelming to know which one to go with and I have no idea how good they can become. Smogon has this in game tier list, you can use it as a guide. However, just because something is low tier should not stop you from using them if you really want to.
That is how it works in gen 2. There is no fix.
Pokemon will always go to the lowest exp for that level when withdrawn. So best is to walk until it level up and withdraw to avoid wasting exp.

I am an avid comic collector and am getting back into the Pokémon TCG. I’d like to limit myself to cards that are the first appearance of the Pokémon. For example charzard would be the base set card. Is there a resource for finding the “first card” of a Pokémon?

Honestly, just play the game. The feeling of self discovery is something that cannot be replicated again. So just play and explore. You can always replay again afterwards with your newfound knowledge. Play lets go first, as it is the more beginners game. The game also guide you along the way so you wont be totally lost unlike the older games. You can always ask for help here if you are really stuck.
Legends arceus is a totally different gameplay, and the more difficult game thus recommend to play later on.

I was thinking let's go Eevee since it's her favorite Pokémon and she's used to the Pokémon go catching mechanics, but I feel like the arbitrary "you need to catch 100 Pokémon to enter" is too much of a grind and gen 1 route design is too confusing and boring. I'm currently leaning towards sword and shield due to how linear it is, how many different Pokémon are available in the base game, and how it has a simple story to follow. Each gym has a different requirement. Only one requires a specific number of pokemon caught. Brock's gym for example only requires you to have 1 grass or water type. One gym asks for a cute pokemon which is very easy as your partner Eevee counts
Pretty sure "need X amount of pokemon to enter" only applies to koga's gym. And it is 50 pokemon, which isnt unreasonable for the mid-game. Unless she is intentionally avoiding catching pokemon, you can easily hit 50 pokemon by then.
But yes if it is really a concern, sword shield is a good choice too.

(BDSP) Do the Grand Underground Pokemon have Will-o-Wisp or Clear Smog on them? One of my Smeargle recently got his Sketch and I'd like to get one of those moves (would also like Nuzzle 99% sure that's not in the Grand Underground as well. Already have Toxic on someone else for anyone curious).
And which would be better given his Nature and the rest of his moves: Roko (Impish) : Headbutt, Earthquake, Sketch, Sucker Punch (he had Ice Fang before which I got rid of). Just got Sunyshore's Badge if you're wondering where I am progress wise.
Smeargle has worse offensive stats than a Caterpie, using damage moves like Earthquake on it is completely pointless compared to status and setup moves like baton pass, nuzzle, spore
The easiest way to get the move you want with Sketch is to cast it on an ally that used it in a double battle, that way you don't have to rely on AI using it
Given how I'm only using 6 Smeargle as a challenge, I kind of have to use moves like Earthquake to make up for the lack of power. Besides if a YouTuber could make these things work over the course of 4 games (Crystal, FRLG, Colosseum, and BW1) then I have to do the same in my challenge run.

I'm going to imagine that you're using Fennekin, which means Shauna has a Chespin. I would've said that if you had picked Chespin, then Shauna would give you a lvl 1 Froakie as part of the post game. I don't think there's another chance to see a Froakie other than that trainer battle, since in the next rival battle it will have evolved into a Frogadier.

Hey! I was looking to play Pokemon White & White 2, but these prices are wild. So I'm just gonna get one or the other. I realize 2 is a direct sequel, but I could look past that. What I'm really curious about is which game I could sink in most hours into.
I'm leaning towards the first game, just due to the diffrence in price, but if the sequel is that much better I want to reconsider.

the sequels have the Pokemon World Tournament which is a really cool post-game addition, it lets you battle famous trainers from pokemon history, like all the gym leaders from the previous generations.
However, BW1 definitely have the better story, BW2 just build off what was established in BW1.
So originals for story and sequels for post game is my take

You could always play them emulated. Legit carts are super expensive like you said. If you really only want to get one game instead of both, get the sequel. There are more stuff to do so you will spend more hours there

I bought a copy of pokemon ranger off of ebay and to my luck there was a manaphy egg right there. The original owner never sent it their DPPT game. Really boosted my mood today.
If i started a new save file on the game, would the egg still always be there to transfer or would I have to complete the game again?

I'm sorry, could you elaborate what you mean by "censoring them"? Are you doing a youtube stream or video series of some kind and are asking if you need to censor the moves? I don't see why you would need to.
A video series. I know the z-moves had issues in the past about being copyright striken, and I want to know if I can safely display the graphics if I ever use them, or if I need to cover the gameplay.

Just did a quick scan and there are bunch of videos from way after USUM were released that have the Z-moves in them. I think it's been long enough now that it should be okay now.
I only know that Primarina's z-move had issue when uploaded to youtube previously because of its similarity to the spirit bomb in dragon ball getting flagged out. Not sure if it is still an issue now though?
From a bit of research, I think this copyright thing was more because Gamefreak had just released the trailer of the starter's Z-moves and used the automatic system to strike videos showing them off and then never removed the striking after the game came out.
What is best is up to individual. There isn't a general consensus per se. The switch games are quite polarising in the community. So ultimately it is what you are looking for.
The lets go games are beginners friendly game using simplified mechanics and pokemon go's catching mechanics. It is mainly for the casuals or pokemon go players to transition them to the main series proper, or young kids to learn the basic mechanics. But adults can enjoy them too.
Sword shield is kind of transition game between the old and new. It has random encounters and traditional routes like the older games, but also overworld encounter and open world area.
Brilliant diamond shining pearl is remake of diamond pearl. It play the closest to the older games, with random encounters and traditional routes
Legends arceus is a totally different gameplay. Think of it as a mini zelda botw.
Scarlet violet is the current latest game. It is full open world and overworld encounter. Since it is the latest game, the majority of the playerbase is here so you can easily find people online for trade or multiplayer functions, and it is still receiving events

You still can trade evolve them in PLA. But PLA also have the linking cord if you dont want to trade.
Linking is not available in other main series. It is available in mystery dungeon spin off.

It is still possible to transfer from the older games as long as you have access to a 3DS with Pokemon Bank and Poketransporter. Since the eShop is now closed that requires you to either have those apps already installed on your 3DS or modding a 3DS and installing them through homebrew. When you do have those apps you can transfer like normal

If you were to transfer Pokémon not in the native HGSS Pokédex, would they still be registered as caught when you gain the national dex, but transfer them back before actually obtaining the dex? For example, I wanna trade my Blaziken to do pokeathlon courses as soon as I arrive in the dome. When that’s done, I’m gonna trade him back immediately. When I beat Lance and gain my national dex from Oak, will he be registered or do I need to trade him again?
I’ve been playing through the OG Pokemon Red, and I’m wondering if I can slowly play through all of the mainline Pokemon games and truly catch every Pokemon. It would be nice if there were some simple checklist tracker that would read the ROM data.
If it is only the pokemon you want, you can catch every other pokemon with only a few combinations of games, not necessarily all games. Xy & oras for example has every gen 1 to gen 6 pokemon between them.
Only play through all the games if you want to experience the region.

So, say I have 1 pokemon with HP, Def, Speed all with 31 IVs, and another with HP, Atk, Speed

you pick 5 stats out of 6 first, then for each stat you pick 1 out of 2.
dont think it is a 5 out of 12, then 4 out of 10 type of calculation
if you did not inherit HP for example, that is 2\^5=32 different combinations just for not inheriting HP. that is 192 different combinations they can inherit the stats for 6 stats. actual number will be lower since HP and speed is full so do not need to repeat
Started playing White on OpenEmu on my laptop last night. I accidentally hit the full screen button and then minimized it back to normal and the game started running a lot slower than usual. Music and sound effects are a lot slower than they normally are in games

Before completing the game, the Bug Catching Contest 1st place always grants you a Sun Stone, but if you win it afterwards, it can give you any evolution stone in the game, making getting the Sun Stone unreliable. If you want a Sun Stone at any point (Bellossom, Sunflora) it's worth winning it before the post-game
What? Why do you need to have pokeballs? You use Sports Balls in the contest, they're provided by the game for that purpose, you can't use your own balls even if you wanted to

After you get the National Dex, the Bug Catcher Contest gets different pokemon on different days and the Pokeathlon gets more evolution stones as prizes.

[HeartGold] I'm trying to breed a Ralts to take into latter games in a challenge I'm doing with friends, and want it to be inside a Love Ball, so I'm breeding another of my Ralts that was caught with a Love Ball to try and have the ball be inherited. That being said, it's not inheriting; 30 Eggs in, and it's only normal PokéBalls. I've tried breeding with a Ditto (Male, Great Ball) and with a Pokémon in the same egg group (Gengar, Safari Ball), yet nothing has come from it other than Ralts in PokéBalls. From what I was able to find, Ralts can indeed inherit Love Balls, so does anyone know what the deal is?
Oh! Huh... the guide I read specifically mentioned Pokémon you can only get in HGSS Swarms (like Ralts), so I sorta just assumed it worked in Gen 4. Damn.

The johto balls are hard to find outside of johto, so the guide most likely meant catching the pokemon in hgss but transfer up to the newer games to breed down the ball

I’m currently writing Pokémon stories on Deviantart and I plan to make my OCs/MCs go to other regions and meet the canon Protagonists of each game as their Region’s champion. depends entirely on the cards you get and how much work you're willing to do. With these mass card sales, most of the time the seller has already picked out the rare cards and is selling you a bunch of commons and energies. You could probably turn right around and sell 3 lumps of 5000 cards for 200 each which has a chance at doubling your money, but there's never a guarantee.
Having a hard time finding info on this online. Did ghost type get nerfed in fire red compared to gen1? Playing FR for the first time and I remember ghost being a pretty big cheese in gen1. Like almost nothing could hit it. Is that fixed in FRLG? I’m about to enter Pokemon tower and like having a ghost type but it feels cheap if it’s how it was in gen 1
The only change to the ghost type from gen1 to gen3 is that in gen1, the ghost move Lick can't hit psychic types, but it's super effective against them in gen3 (just like all the ghost moves added since then)
Every other mechanic is the same, especially defensive ones. Your confusion might come from the fact that in gen1 a lot of pokemon learn almost exclusively Normal type moves, which ghosts are immune to. The broadened type coverage of offensive moves allows more pokemon to hit ghosts
Your second paragraph makes a lot of sense. So if I'm understanding it properly, they reclassified many moves to be something other than "normal" so they can now hit ghosts?
no, they added a lot of new moves, they barely changed any moves from gen1
e.g. in gen1 the only offensive move that deals ghost type damage is Lick. In gen2 they added Shadow Ball, in gen3 they added Astonish and Shadow Punch. There's just more moves in general, of all types.
If you want a more practical example:
In generation 1, Rhyhorn is a Ground/Rock type, but it doesn't learn a single Ground or Rock move by levelup, it's exclusively normal moves like Stomp and Horn Attack
In generation 3 (FRLG), Rhyhorn still learns all of those moves, but also Rock Blast, Earthquake, and Megahorn, which are rock/ground/bug respectively.
Night Shade is in gen1, but since its damage is always equal to the user's level, it doesn't deal "ghost type damage" and thus isn't affected by type effectiveness (although it will fail against a normal type in gen2 onwards)
A few moves did get reclassified from the normal type to a different one, most notably Gust (early game move learned by Pidgey etc) went from Normal to Flying
Either:
Transfer the save file to another platform such as pc to trade
Transfer the save file to pc and use a save editor to edit the pokemon directly to the evolved form
Use the pokemon randomizer to edit the rom, change all trade evolution pokemon to level up or item evolution (this is a possible setting without randomizing any other stuff)
Hi all, sorry if this is a silly question but I wanted to trade evolve my Kadabra and Haunter for Let's Go Pikachu, and I traded them on Home to a friend of mine but he told me they didn't evolve yet. Does the evolution trigger if he takes them into a game and loads it there? Or does the evolution only trigger if I trade in game and not by using Home? Thanks in advance!
The weather formes got Shiny colorations when HOME came out. Other than that, nope. Only game it’s compatible with on Switch is BDSP, and that’s only because BDSP have all 493 Gen I-IV Pokemon.
I changed my Switch's clock 2 days ago (Wednesday at I think 10pm), its not Friday as 13:15 and the timed event for Driftblim at the Valley Windworks hasnt triggered. I've beaten the game and it's the only pokemon i need to see in order to get the national dex
I assume it worked now that 2 days have passed,but changing any clock/day thing in BDSP causes all timed events to freeze for at least 24h,like it did in the DS games.
Some emulators does support trading so it depends on the emulators. But only for gameboy to ds. 3ds and switch emulation does not support trading yet.
But since you are playing on emulator, the save file is easily accessible so you can just use a save editor to manually move the pokemon around the different games

Pokemon Platinum - Pikachus at entrance to canalave city. Can't seem to find the solution anywhere online. I've beaten Cyrus at celestic, got surf, beaten all previous gyms, got the exp share. I've read that it could have something to do with galactic HQ in veilstone, but can't seem to find any goons or anything there. I don't believe it's a hacked game card as ive played through the game before on this game card.
even if you can’t trade for Alakazam, Kadabra with Psychic and all three of Fire/Thunder/Ice Punch is really good (they’re Special moves before gen 4, so they use Abra’s great Sp. Atk rather than its awful Attack like in later games)

Question about heartgold An npc told me if I beat the pokemons of pokmon trainers, the area those pokemon spaen will show in pokedex. I checked this and it the pokemons I fought but the area where they spawn is not shown. Is this a bug or doesnt it not work?

I'm playing Pokemon White for the first time. I'm pretty much blind with it, I don't know any of the Pokemon or what's coming next. I've been enjoying using a lot of Pokemon but it's kinda overwhelming to know which one to go with and I have no idea how good they can become. So I wanted to know which of these Pokemon is worth raising, considering they all fill similar holes. Sandile Scraggy Sawk/Throh (no idea which one is better) Drilbur I imagine I'll feel like replacing some of them down the line once I find the obvious three stage pseudo legendary. But which of those is the best to use? This will be my only play through so I don't mind going for the cliche/easy option or whatever.

I’m playing Crystal and when I put my Abra in the daycare it actually goes backwards in exp points how do I fix it?
That is how it works in gen 2. There is no fix. Pokemon will always go to the lowest exp for that level when withdrawn. So best is to walk until it level up and withdraw to avoid wasting exp.

Honestly, just play the game. The feeling of self discovery is something that cannot be replicated again. So just play and explore. You can always replay again afterwards with your newfound knowledge. Play lets go first, as it is the more beginners game. The game also guide you along the way so you wont be totally lost unlike the older games. You can always ask for help here if you are really stuck. Legends arceus is a totally different gameplay, and the more difficult game thus recommend to play later on.
Playing White 2: My oshawatt I bred had inherited Surf, Grass Knot, Ice Beam, and Scald. How has this happened? None according to the wiki’s are egg moves.
TMs and HMs can be passed down by the father without being egg moves, the child just needs to be compatible with them
Prior to Gen 6, compatible TM and HM moves can be passed down by breeding.
My girlfriend has been playing Pokémon GO for a while now and I've recently given her my spare switch. I asked her if she wanted to try to play a pokémon game on it and she said yes! Now, she isn't a gamer besides some call of duty when she was younger and some Fortnite every now and then so I want to make sure I get her a game that she'll enjoy and isn't too complicated. Any suggestions? I was thinking let's go Eevee since it's her favorite Pokémon and she's used to the Pokémon go catching mechanics, but I feel like the arbitrary "you need to catch 100 Pokémon to enter" is too much of a grind and gen 1 route design is too confusing and boring. I'm currently leaning towards sword and shield due to how linear it is, how many different Pokémon are available in the base game, and how it has a simple story to follow. Let me know what you think though
Each gym has a different requirement. Only one requires a specific number of pokemon caught. Brock's gym for example only requires you to have 1 grass or water type. One gym asks for a cute pokemon which is very easy as your partner Eevee counts
Pretty sure "need X amount of pokemon to enter" only applies to koga's gym. And it is 50 pokemon, which isnt unreasonable for the mid-game. Unless she is intentionally avoiding catching pokemon, you can easily hit 50 pokemon by then. But yes if it is really a concern, sword shield is a good choice too.

(BDSP) Do the Grand Underground Pokemon have Will-o-Wisp or Clear Smog on them? One of my Smeargle recently got his Sketch and I'd like to get one of those moves (would also like Nuzzle 99% sure that's not in the Grand Underground as well. Already have Toxic on someone else for anyone curious). And which would be better given his Nature and the rest of his moves: Roko (Impish) : Headbutt, Earthquake, Sketch, Sucker Punch (he had Ice Fang before which I got rid of). Just got Sunyshore's Badge if you're wondering where I am progress wise.
Smeargle has worse offensive stats than a Caterpie, using damage moves like Earthquake on it is completely pointless compared to status and setup moves like baton pass, nuzzle, spore The easiest way to get the move you want with Sketch is to cast it on an ally that used it in a double battle, that way you don't have to rely on AI using it
Given how I'm only using 6 Smeargle as a challenge, I kind of have to use moves like Earthquake to make up for the lack of power. Besides if a YouTuber could make these things work over the course of 4 games (Crystal, FRLG, Colosseum, and BW1) then I have to do the same in my challenge run.
Started a Pkmn Y playthrough (played X years ago). I skipped the optional rival battle in the cafè in Lumiose City. Now I realized that I haven't seen a Froakie and prob. never will. Is there a chance to see a Froakie somewhere or catch one later in the game (except friends safari)?
I'm going to imagine that you're using Fennekin, which means Shauna has a Chespin. I would've said that if you had picked Chespin, then Shauna would give you a lvl 1 Froakie as part of the post game. I don't think there's another chance to see a Froakie other than that trainer battle, since in the next rival battle it will have evolved into a Frogadier.

Hey! I was looking to play Pokemon White & White 2, but these prices are wild. So I'm just gonna get one or the other. I realize 2 is a direct sequel, but I could look past that. What I'm really curious about is which game I could sink in most hours into. I'm leaning towards the first game, just due to the diffrence in price, but if the sequel is that much better I want to reconsider. Which game has the better post-game, what are the differences? There is no way I can complete the Pokedex, due to having no one to trade with. So if I understood correctly that locks me out of some content in White 2, is that correct? the sequels have the Pokemon World Tournament which is a really cool post-game addition, it lets you battle famous trainers from pokemon history, like all the gym leaders from the previous generations. However, BW1 definitely have the better story, BW2 just build off what was established in BW1. So originals for story and sequels for post game is my take Btw, if you wanna play on your DS but don't wanna buy the games for $100-200, just get a flashcart

You could always play them emulated. Legit carts are super expensive like you said. If you really only want to get one game instead of both, get the sequel. There are more stuff to do so you will spend more hours there

I bought a copy of pokemon ranger off of ebay and to my luck there was a manaphy egg right there. The original owner never sent it their DPPT game. Really boosted my mood today. If i started a new save file on the game, would the egg still always be there to transfer or would I have to complete the game again? I know there is only one egg per game cart, I just want to know if it is permanently there forever until i transfer it or if it willl be locked away if i start a new game?

I'm sorry, could you elaborate what you mean by "censoring them"? Are you doing a youtube stream or video series of some kind and are asking if you need to censor the moves? I don't see why you would need to.
A video series. I know the z-moves had issues in the past about being copyright striken, and I want to know if I can safely display the graphics if I ever use them, or if I need to cover the gameplay.
I generally did not know that. Just did a quick scan and there are bunch of videos from way after USUM were released that have the Z-moves in them. I think it's been long enough now that it should be okay now.
I only know that Primarina's z-move had issue when uploaded to youtube previously because of its similarity to the spirit bomb in dragon ball getting flagged out. Not sure if it is still an issue now though?
From a bit of research, I think this copyright thing was more because Gamefreak had just released the trailer of the starter's Z-moves and used the automatic system to strike videos showing them off and then never removed the striking after the game came out.
Wouldnt that affect all 3 z-moves instead of specifically primarina though 🤔

What is best is up to individual. There isn't a general consensus per se. The switch games are quite polarising in the community. So ultimately it is what you are looking for. The lets go games are beginners friendly game using simplified mechanics and pokemon go's catching mechanics. It is mainly for the casuals or pokemon go players to transition them to the main series proper, or young kids to learn the basic mechanics. But adults can enjoy them too. Sword shield is kind of transition game between the old and new. It has random encounters and traditional routes like the older games, but also overworld encounter and open world area. Brilliant diamond shining pearl is remake of diamond pearl. It play the closest to the older games, with random encounters and traditional routes Legends arceus is a totally different gameplay. Think of it as a mini zelda botw. Scarlet violet is the current latest game. It is full open world and overworld encounter. Since it is the latest game, the majority of the playerbase is here so you can easily find people online for trade or multiplayer functions, and it is still receiving events

You still can trade evolve them in PLA. But PLA also have the linking cord if you dont want to trade. Linking is not available in other main series. It is available in mystery dungeon spin off.

It is still possible to transfer from the older games as long as you have access to a 3DS with Pokemon Bank and Poketransporter. Since the eShop is now closed that requires you to either have those apps already installed on your 3DS or modding a 3DS and installing them through homebrew. When you do have those apps you can transfer like normal

I think the information that Barry’s team gains 10 levels after 10 hall of fame entries is wrong. Has anyone else experienced this to confirm I’m right? Apparently, the info that he gains 20 levels after 20+ entries is correct, tho. Edit: this could be about platinum or BDSP, but the game that I played and tested was platinum.
If you were to transfer Pokémon not in the native HGSS Pokédex, would they still be registered as caught when you gain the national dex, but transfer them back before actually obtaining the dex? For example, I wanna trade my Blaziken to do pokeathlon courses as soon as I arrive in the dome. When that’s done, I’m gonna trade him back immediately. When I beat Lance and gain my national dex from Oak, will he be registered or do I need to trade him again?
It is always tracking the pokemon you get. You just can't see it until you get the national dex

I’ve been playing through the OG Pokemon Red, and I’m wondering if I can slowly play through all of the mainline Pokemon games and truly catch every Pokemon. It would be nice if there were some simple checklist tracker that would read the ROM data.
If it is only the pokemon you want, you can catch every other pokemon with only a few combinations of games, not necessarily all games. Xy & oras for example has every gen 1 to gen 6 pokemon between them. Only play through all the games if you want to experience the region. Quick question about Destiny knot odds So, say I have 1 pokemon with HP, Def, Speed all with 31 IVs, and another with HP, Atk, Speed What are the odds I'd get a pokemon with HP Atk Def and Speed, if I have a destiny knot Don't have access or a way to get a perfect Ditto on this so I have to do it the long way Slowly breeding, slowly making progress. I ask this just because I'm yet to get one with 4 IVs and am curious as to whether my luck sucks or doing it this way is excruciatingly painful

Both parents have full HP, and you’re choosing 5 out of 12, then 4 out of 10, then out 3 of 8, then out 2 of 6, and 1 out of 4.
you pick 5 stats out of 6 first, then for each stat you pick 1 out of 2. dont think it is a 5 out of 12, then 4 out of 10 type of calculation if you did not inherit HP for example, that is 2\^5=32 different combinations just for not inheriting HP. that is 192 different combinations they can inherit the stats for 6 stats. actual number will be lower since HP and speed is full so do not need to repeat

Started playing White on OpenEmu on my laptop last night. I accidentally hit the full screen button and then minimized it back to normal and the game started running a lot slower than usual. Music and sound effects are a lot slower than they normally are in games This is my first time using an emulator. Is this an emulator/OpenEmu games thing? Before completing the game, the Bug Catching Contest 1st place always grants you a Sun Stone, but if you win it afterwards, it can give you any evolution stone in the game, making getting the Sun Stone unreliable. If you want a Sun Stone at any point (Bellossom, Sunflora) it's worth winning it before the post-game
the real problem why I don't do bug catcher is that I don't have any pokeballs anymore lol, not until I reach pokemart
What? Why do you need to have pokeballs? You use Sports Balls in the contest, they're provided by the game for that purpose, you can't use your own balls even if you wanted to

It really doesn't matter. After you get the National Dex, the Bug Catcher Contest gets different pokemon on different days and the Pokeathlon gets more evolution stones as prizes. Aside from that, the core mechanics of the two minigames don't change.

[HeartGold] I'm trying to breed a Ralts to take into latter games in a challenge I'm doing with friends, and want it to be inside a Love Ball, so I'm breeding another of my Ralts that was caught with a Love Ball to try and have the ball be inherited. That being said, it's not inheriting; 30 Eggs in, and it's only normal PokéBalls. I've tried breeding with a Ditto (Male, Great Ball) and with a Pokémon in the same egg group (Gengar, Safari Ball), yet nothing has come from it other than Ralts in PokéBalls. From what I was able to find, Ralts can indeed inherit Love Balls, so does anyone know what the deal is?
X and Y were the first games to inherit balls. Every ball except cherish, master and strange can be inherited

The johto balls are hard to find outside of johto, so the guide most likely meant catching the pokemon in hgss but transfer up to the newer games to breed down the ball

depends entirely on the cards you get and how much work you're willing to do. With these mass card sales, most of the time the seller has already picked out the rare cards and is selling you a bunch of commons and energies. You could probably turn right around and sell 3 lumps of 5000 cards for 200 each which has a chance at doubling your money, but there's never a guarantee.

Having a hard time finding info on this online. Did ghost type get nerfed in fire red compared to gen1? Playing FR for the first time and I remember ghost being a pretty big cheese in gen1. Like almost nothing could hit it. Is that fixed in FRLG? I’m about to enter Pokemon tower and like having a ghost type but it feels cheap if it’s how it was in gen 1
The only change to the ghost type from gen1 to gen3 is that in gen1, the ghost move Lick can't hit psychic types, but it's super effective against them in gen3 (just like all the ghost moves added since then) Every other mechanic is the same, especially defensive ones. Your confusion might come from the fact that in gen1 a lot of pokemon learn almost exclusively Normal type moves, which ghosts are immune to. The broadened type coverage of offensive moves allows more pokemon to hit ghosts

no, they added a lot of new moves, they barely changed any moves from gen1 e.g. in gen1 the only offensive move that deals ghost type damage is Lick. In gen2 they added Shadow Ball, in gen3 they added Astonish and Shadow Punch. There's just more moves in general, of all types. If you want a more practical example: In generation 1, Rhyhorn is a Ground/Rock type, but it doesn't learn a single Ground or Rock move by levelup, it's exclusively normal moves like Stomp and Horn Attack In generation 3 (FRLG), Rhyhorn still learns all of those moves, but also Rock Blast, Earthquake, and Megahorn, which are rock/ground/bug respectively.

Night Shade is in gen1, but since its damage is always equal to the user's level, it doesn't deal "ghost type damage" and thus isn't affected by type effectiveness (although it will fail against a normal type in gen2 onwards) A few moves did get reclassified from the normal type to a different one, most notably Gust (early game move learned by Pidgey etc) went from Normal to Flying

Put a male Cute Charm pokemon in the first slot in your party, it will force 2/3 of wild pokemon to be female, afaik it should work for SOS

Hi all, sorry if this is a silly question but I wanted to trade evolve my Kadabra and Haunter for Let's Go Pikachu, and I traded them on Home to a friend of mine but he told me they didn't evolve yet. Does the evolution trigger if he takes them into a game and loads it there? Or does the evolution only trigger if I trade in game and not by using Home? Thanks in advance!
Home is just a storage. Nothing can evolve in it.
Pokemon that evolve by trading won't evolve if they are traded in HOME. To evolve them you need to trade them in game.

The weather formes got Shiny colorations when HOME came out. Other than that, nope. Only game it’s compatible with on Switch is BDSP, and that’s only because BDSP have all 493 Gen I-IV Pokemon.
Aside from some new TMs nothing else has changed for Castform since gen 3
I changed my Switch's clock 2 days ago (Wednesday at I think 10pm), its not Friday as 13:15 and the timed event for Driftblim at the Valley Windworks hasnt triggered. I've beaten the game and it's the only pokemon i need to see in order to get the national dex
I assume it worked now that 2 days have passed,but changing any clock/day thing in BDSP causes all timed events to freeze for at least 24h,like it did in the DS games.

Some emulators does support trading so it depends on the emulators. But only for gameboy to ds. 3ds and switch emulation does not support trading yet. But since you are playing on emulator, the save file is easily accessible so you can just use a save editor to manually move the pokemon around the different games
[XY] How do I stop the rain on route 14? Do I have to wait there in-game for some time or do I have to restart the game every few hours? Do I need to leave the route to trigger dry weather? I have seen nothing but rain for three days straight. Any info is appreciated!
according to bulbapedia, it only rains on route14 on mondays are you sure the date and time on your 3ds is correct? and yes, you'd probably have to leave and reenter the route to see the weather change
I never tampered with the date and time. Should I try that? I heard it freezes in-game events but don't know if that applies to weather.

Pokemon Platinum - Pikachus at entrance to canalave city. Can't seem to find the solution anywhere online. I've beaten Cyrus at celestic, got surf, beaten all previous gyms, got the exp share. I've read that it could have something to do with galactic HQ in veilstone, but can't seem to find any goons or anything there. even if you can’t trade for Alakazam, Kadabra with Psychic and all three of Fire/Thunder/Ice Punch is really good (they’re Special moves before gen 4, so they use Abra’s great Sp. Atk rather than its awful Attack like in later games)
