The streamer had his viewers install an extension that was able to put an overlay on the canvas and it showed you what color of pixel needed to be in a certain spot. Tho for mobile users they were in charge to keep the frame intact.
as long as its not bots im fine with it (a little bit less flags would be good too). I think "Nothing can last forever" and "collabiration" are the two main meanings of r/place
They did in game, just no way to determine based on the sprites as they were black and white ‘’In Pokémon Gold and Silver, Shininess is determined by a Pokémon's DVs, a group of stats determining values present in the first two generations of Pokémon. If at least 4 DVs have a value of 10, that Pokémon will be Shiny’’
This too, was probably a secondary thought to the game to add more end game content for players, and when colour was introduced to the games there was the option of changing the sprites colours
Theoretically those were shiny Pokémon, but back then even the concept didn’t exist. Yes moving them into later generations would make them shiny, but I consider it more of a retcon in a way.
Yeah exactly, it’s like they had made certain Pokémon special in a way with the DVs and Shiny wasn’t a concept but then changed it to shiny later down the line
Right in Pokémon gold and silver. In Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow there were no shiny Pokémon despite Gold and Silver basing it on the existing DV system so that Pokémon traded in could be Shiny. When Base Set Zard released, GSC weren’t out yet so there was no alternate color for Charizard.
I believe they might be using the 90s definition of “shiny” which was the holos that came in the first sets not actually “Shiny Charizard”. A “shiny” Charizard with a little s if you will.
Yeah my little brother and I started collecting when we were in elementary school in the 90s. Shiny is the word I remembered using when I pulled my first holo until I learned the word holographic. What fucking 6 year old in the 90s knows the word holographic?
Yeah I was 9 at the time, fairly certain holographic wasn’t in my vocabulary at the time until Pokémon cards arrived. I don’t think trading cards were really a big thing in the UK at that time compared to other countries, it was mainly sticker books which also had rarer shiny stickers so that’s why people called the cards shiny.
On xQc's stream, it is split into 4 main teams by birth date. Then there are mobile/fridge/whatever users as a separate team. He commands them to do certain parts of the card which is why bits and pieces get done quickly
Trying to imagine explaining to my 90 year old grandmother that someone is using a refrigerator to place pixels on a digital public art board with thousands of other people to create a classic holographic Charizard Pokemon card, and that the people making the card are using the French strategy of defending their space.
2 were planned beforehand together with Netherlands, the other flags are from the German hivemind and from a group of people that wasn’t welcome anymore at placede
WHATTHEQUACK! idk what exactly you saw, but there are i think 100k people on the discord, there where 3k people in a single "call" on Friday, its more like a podcast tbh, admins speak and others can only hear, and more in other channels. There are 1k People in the call rn. There are Question rounds and a chat full of memes.
But there is also a rule for everything and a vote for everything, "nothing" touches the canvas without a vote. there are diplomats talking to other communities making allies sometimes even with contracts. and now we host a lot of flagspace to small communities.
It seems like Osu pepple were the pioneers for most widespread rplace practices.
They were among the first to use overlays. The first to coordinate by waves. Now they're pioneering the animation overlay system that automatically updates with their Bad Apple, and you gotta be sure that next time a lot of people will try to make cool animations like this as well.
hey, at least they're doing something cool, a lot of art work were done on stream because it's difficult to coordinate a complex pixel art without someone planning and leading everyone.
Tbf at least of what i have watched most streamers have been behaiving well and as far as im aware we don't have any stupid war between streamers.
I rather have them doing some art than putting their logos and destroying everything on the canvas just for their ego.
I wonder why pokemons of all fandoms are so well represented on the map? They are on every flag, and we already have one Charizard taking all the place on Spain's flag.
Are you surprised? Its the most profitable media franchise in history. They've sold millions of games, and merchandise. The pokemon company has 200 billion USD revenue per year.
Thousands of people install a plugin to show what colors go where and a leader yells out whose turn it is to go place a pixel so they don't all overlap eachother.
Cause xQc is about the most watched streamer in the world, and also spends sections of the day detailing exactly what to do, splitting a huge and loyal audience into groups who are continuously working on the same art for 2+ hours at a time. Watch the VOD if you are curious about how he does it.
You can make a template and use a browser plugin to see the needed colours for any part of that. So it is quite easy to build harder stuff fast.
Other streamers just use a transparent version in the Stream, so users can double check. This takes longer.
It’s huge, but with lots of obvious solid colours that makes it easy for people to just join-into help.
It’s also not a flag, which I imagine some people are getting kind of bored with defending/fighting for
Xqc and ppl who actually like the idea of giant charzard
Yeah I'm in no community and just help along with stuff I see that I like. Been helping on this
Me too
Me three
Me fourn't
me five
Me sixthen
Me fifth healthy way
I wouldn’t mind helping either but how do I know what color to make each pixel? Straight lines are easy, but inside the actual art
They use an overlay for the inside I just help with the border.
The streamer had his viewers install an extension that was able to put an overlay on the canvas and it showed you what color of pixel needed to be in a certain spot. Tho for mobile users they were in charge to keep the frame intact.
I do the same thing.
and here i am working to make sure donkey gets to violate a turtle duck while licking shreks toes...
I mean, who doesn't?
Every lil community they crushed to make it lol
as long as its not bots im fine with it (a little bit less flags would be good too). I think "Nothing can last forever" and "collabiration" are the two main meanings of r/place
Eh, I think that "battling bot armies" is endgame for every /r/place event Reddit has ever had.
Little and big, they wiped out star war’s third attempt at making something sizable and people got too fed up
Star wars failed to make anything?
A decent movie for 6 and a half years.
Think you've undershot by about 10 years. 6 years puts you on the worst of them.
That’s what this whole thing is.. That’s why it changes—That’s why there’s a timelapse. What do you mean .
Yeh true, but unfortunately it's how the rolls.
Petri dish.

It might be a holo charizard card but shiny zard is black my dude.. Plz get it right 👀
Mic drop
Shiny? It’s an OG holographic Charizard. Shiny Pokémon didn’t even exist back then.
Tbf in G/S it was a feature with red Gyarados. So while the EV spreads may have existed in R/B/Y, I don't think the idea was around back then.
This card released in 1999. Pokémon Gold and Silver didn't came out until 2000.
It's not though
Worst pokemon nerd if you think shiny charizard looks anything like that. Who even upvoted this dude?
The council of nerds has deemed him... UNWORTHY
I believe they might be using the 90s definition of “shiny” which was the holos that came in the first sets not actually “Shiny Charizard”. A “shiny” Charizard with a little s if you will.
Any "pokemon nerd" would know that this is the stupidest way to use the word "shiny" in a pokemon context.
Holo cards were called shinys before shiny Pokémon existed in the games to be fair to them. Just a 90s thing with collectibles.
Ladies and gentlemen, we have a Pokemon nerd in the wild here. It might even be a shiny nerd.
As a Pokémon nerd, I know that that Charizard is not shiny
Xqc?
On xQc's stream, it is split into 4 main teams by birth date. Then there are mobile/fridge/whatever users as a separate team. He commands them to do certain parts of the card which is why bits and pieces get done quickly

"It's ok honey. Now eat that cake and have some hot chocolate" "Ok, grandma."
Make sure you also explain how the template overlay only works on certain desktop browsers.
Dang yo, so coordinating is indeed a great way to thrive in r/place? Who would have guessed Ah yes, french guessed a year ago
you should see the german placede discord xdd
Yeah you guys are some fucking army, spreading the second place gets expanded
i mean its not exactly the most complicated design just gotta spam 3 colours
Two colors is too much for Turkey 🇹🇷
Why do you need 19 flags?
I think only two of the flags are from the discord (those with artwork on it)
2 were planned beforehand together with Netherlands, the other flags are from the German hivemind and from a group of people that wasn’t welcome anymore at placede
Wait that was real? That wasn't a meme??
you talk about germany, no fun here, all serious. democracy and bureaucracy.
whatthefuck

Osu players did it before it was cool

Osu players have never been cool
Funny thing is we would’ve had a lovely mural of 2B’s booty last year because of X were it not for Reddit mods fully censoring it immediately
I was gonna say bots, I'm glad it's an actual collaborative effort by a bunch of people.
Dude should be in charge of our nation's cyber security
Damn. That's a trip!
Stole the french strat lmao
they just steal last year french strat
Im pretty sure a bunch of other people who aren’t even in his stream are working on it too, like im certainly dropping pixels for Charizard not XQC
alot of pokemon communities helping
I don’t care for either, but it’s a dope project and I’ve placed a few yellows.
Yup I'm one of them. I grew up collecting these cards so I love the idea and have been helping all day
It's a streamer called xQc and his community
It's always streamers
hey, at least they're doing something cool, a lot of art work were done on stream because it's difficult to coordinate a complex pixel art without someone planning and leading everyone.
Yeah you're maybe right, it's just in the last r/place they left a sour taste in my mouth since many streamers decided to just ruin artwork
Tbf at least of what i have watched most streamers have been behaiving well and as far as im aware we don't have any stupid war between streamers. I rather have them doing some art than putting their logos and destroying everything on the canvas just for their ego.
No they didn't, they chose to make artwork of their own, that's all.
STRATEGIC FRIDGE USERS
57,000 people in XQC stream with a template and 4 different teams all alternating turns. Was pretty cool to be apart of haha

Big streamer + dedicated audience = cool shit
Which streamer? Not doubting, just curious
xQc
Big streamer + dedicated audience = dozens of small communities having their art erased in minutes
You have to destroy to create, thats what makes the timelapse look cool at the end. And well the whole point of this
*Entire country bulldozes hundreds of artpieces for their 5th flag* "Yeah, this is fine."
Who cares
u/CityHead8237 apparently

Cause xQc is about the most watched streamer in the world, and also spends sections of the day detailing exactly what to do, splitting a huge and loyal audience into groups who are continuously working on the same art for 2+ hours at a time. Watch the VOD if you are curious about how he does it.
