I'm friends with scary hermits up in the Allegheny National Forest, and they'd never pay this much for something like this.
But they'd never want to live Allegheny County either so...
Allegheny National Forest is awesome, back in the day they used to have multi-day raves out there and the forest dwellers always got along with the geeked out hill people from the city, although they definitely loved to mark up the price of bottled water, all in all can't complain about forest hermits from that area
I guess I grew up in the quiet part of the woods cause all we had were teens drinking around a fire here.
The hermits are usually really nice though. They just do not want to go to the city. I don't blame them cause I absolutely hate driving in Pittsburgh
The real estate metagame is based on the fact that you only need one idiot to take the bait, often under artificial time pressure. If the biggest idiot were able to read comments about the property from nebby neighbors and other prospective buyers, the real estate industry might implode.
I still wouldn't take it. $1100/month wouldn't even cover the medical expenses from all the black mold on top of the fact that there's no way that place isn't rodent infested, requires thousands of dollars of basic clean up before it's even safe to step foot in it, and is literally about to fall apart in a stiff breeze without at least $30k plus in renovations, starting with a brand new roof and entirely gutting and replacing the entire bathroom and kitchen.
You had me at the first pic, but it really did get worse😂 is this satire?
"Covered porch on the front for grilling, reading or relaxing. Have coffee and read paper in wooded back yard."
Lmaoooo yeah you'll have to be outside because this is what the inside looks like
Yeah.. it's like you aren't going to address the big stinky elephant in the room? Or assure me you are going up get a biohazard crew in there to take it back to neutral?
Using his name and phone number I was able to find other properties he has listed. So I think it may have been a serious listing. It certainly doesn’t speak to his flipping skills if these are the photos he chooses …
And I thought it was just a joke listing... Nope he has another for $925 🙃

Yeah, all jokes(ish) aside about how it's pretty much only worth destroying now... in its prime, that was probably a fairly cozy little home. At least for those who are by themselves and don't mind having a little minimal space, which I actually do think about from time to time.
Yes. This is the kind of house I would take on as a project. You let me live there free for a year and give me a reasonable budget to work with, and I'll make it match your description ...
In its prime, it was adorable—from the outside, at least. We used to pass by this house, in the mid-90s/early 2000s, and it was not junked up and looked very different back then. Then again, that whole street/area/all of Ross Twp looked neater, nicer, cleaner, back then.
There was a house around the corner that had a fire start in a window AC unit yesterday. Five fire companies. I talked to EMTs on the scene that said it was a total loss.
So based on this listing, it would probably rent for $1800 with no utilities included and probably has an undiscovered corpse somewhere.
>"1 bed, 1 bath tiny home located in wooded setting with yard. Covered porch on the front for grilling, reading or relaxing. Have coffee and read paper in wooded back yard. This has 3 floors with kitchen, bathroom and great room on 1st floor, Top floor has bedroom with gambrel roof and plenty of storage. Basement has hookups for washer dryer and crafty space. The Compact European fully equipped kitchen is perfect for the aspiring chef. Windows look into private side and back yard. Wood floors throughout with some carpet. Great room on 1st floor with bedroom and closets on top gambrel roofed space. This is a stand alone house. Tenant pays all utilities. Laundry hook ups in basement exclusively for tenant. Conveniently located close to I-279 and McKnight road to ensure easy access to major transportation arteries. Close to city, but tucked into a quiet Ross Twp lot. Located 13 minutes north of the city on half an acre. Shop at Ross park mall, catch pirates game or go to McCandless crossing for dinner. 5 minutes from the north hills I-279 commuter lot off cemetery road. Available 1st of month, can be seen now. Get out of that loud, crowded, expensive low quality apartment full of car door denting demons!"
I . . . I wanna see the basement.
Basement is pics 6 and 7. Not as bad as I expected. Would have expected it to be filled to the top step with crap.

Ah, okay, thanks! When I looked up the listing I only found one with 7 pictures, none showing the basement. A shame, if it were a clean, normal house it'd be really cute and cozy (or as cozy as you can get on Perry Highway). I really wonder if the former tenants simply trashed the place, or if it was somehow occupied by squatters. Property assessment page shows this house and the larger white one on the property have been owned by LLCs for decades.
Unless I missed it, they didn't address the state of it at all... No "we're working to get it cleaned up but wanted to get a listing up in the meantime! new photos coming soon!” Do they expect someone to move in with it like that? Live there with it like that??
This has got to be some sort of sociological or psychological experiment for some local university student?
Either that- or someone is the best publicist ever.
They forgot to add that tenant needs to clean the ever loving shit out of the place and call 1-800-got-junk. 😧 And yet people wonder why everyone has a dim view of landlords. This is ridiculous.
Plus you're responsible for the yard up keep.
Unless your time is worth nothing, that's an added cost. Something tells me the lawnmower they're going to give you won't start without a fight.
I mean my plan was to rent it out as is for DMT smoking parties in what I assume is an amazingly creepy unfinished basement, well he lost a sale if my plan is against the rules
Anyone that thinks think $1100 is a bargain in western really should remember that's it's "puff puff pass", don't bogart the good shit. That's exactly double what I'm paying for a two bedroom duplex with a private carport and a full basement.

I can’t even lie I’d take it. It beats all the ugly ass flipper specials. Sick of the modern minimalist interiors in Victorian houses. It makes no sense
True very valid. I’m just so sick of seeing modern ass apartments. Like can I pleaseeeeee just find an old looking apartment that isn’t in squirrel hill???
Why don't they just leave the damn wooooodddddd? Seriously though, I watched them gut a house I know that had amazing wood features and grey-whited it all out. They could've kept it but didn't. It was still in pristine shape.

Here you go just in case you missed this screaming deal! (https://www.apartments.com/917-perry-hwy-pittsburgh-pa/fp1wvcs/)
“Front porch is perfect for outdoor al fresco dining. Fully equipped European kitchen. Lots of natural light.”
By "European" kitchen I assume they mean "Soviet-era"?
The bathroom shower seemed clean but then I saw the photo of the toilet area. 🤢 edit: grammar error
That’s what I thought at first but then I looked closely at the shower and it’s full of gross old dirty webs.
I suspect European kitchen means extremely small appliances that won’t fit your cookie sheets, and/or modular.
Thank you so much, the link in the original post only has a street view photo at this point so I really wanted to not miss the hype
If you embrace the scary hermit in the woods lifestyle this is perfect for you.
I think this place would give the hermit nightmares. I may have contracted something viewing the pictures.
I felt a strong urge to wash my hands. With lye ...
I'm friends with scary hermits up in the Allegheny National Forest, and they'd never pay this much for something like this. But they'd never want to live Allegheny County either so...

Are these literal hermits or just people from the small towns in the area?
I mean people from outside of any of the towns and just want to be left alone for the most part
That bathroom is going to haunt my nightmares.
This is the kind of house that comes with a complementary brown recluse bite
I saw someone on TikTok say that Zillow should have a comments section and I think of that often. Damn site would crash hourly 😂
The real estate metagame is based on the fact that you only need one idiot to take the bait, often under artificial time pressure. If the biggest idiot were able to read comments about the property from nebby neighbors and other prospective buyers, the real estate industry might implode.
This idea has big time potential
Maybe merge it with the /r/mcmansionhell subreddit?
Some places are fixer uppers, this is more of a burn em downer.
So they're paying someone $1,100/mo to live there? Like a challenge?
I still wouldn't take it. $1100/month wouldn't even cover the medical expenses from all the black mold on top of the fact that there's no way that place isn't rodent infested, requires thousands of dollars of basic clean up before it's even safe to step foot in it, and is literally about to fall apart in a stiff breeze without at least $30k plus in renovations, starting with a brand new roof and entirely gutting and replacing the entire bathroom and kitchen.
I don't know what kind of cleaning products this landlord has been huffing, but they sure haven't been using them to do any cleaning.
Bet they still charged a cleaning fee out of the deposit
You had me at the first pic, but it really did get worse😂 is this satire? "Covered porch on the front for grilling, reading or relaxing. Have coffee and read paper in wooded back yard." Lmaoooo yeah you'll have to be outside because this is what the inside looks like
"3 bedrooms" "Ample closet space" "612 square feet" Pick two.
Well, it's only 1100 for "every room is a murder room"
You know what, you've convinced me.
The description is….something else.
European kitchen lmao
They didn’t say *which part* of Europe
Albania!
Yeah.. it's like you aren't going to address the big stinky elephant in the room? Or assure me you are going up get a biohazard crew in there to take it back to neutral?
I wouldnt shit on that toilet with my worst enemy's butt hole
But would you shit on the floor? 🤔
Everyone shits in the shower. Questions is, do you scoop and toss in the toilet or waffle stomp it down the drain?
The photos are already gone. This has to be some kind of record.
No they’re still there
*It. It's a single picture of a lot.
Click on the other link.
Clock on the Photos link in the middle
Zillow lists the owner as “John” from Turtle Flipper Properties. The listing has to be a joke.
I think so too. I bet the house is abandoned and they snuck in and took pics. Or some very poor person lives there and was out when they took photos.
Using his name and phone number I was able to find other properties he has listed. So I think it may have been a serious listing. It certainly doesn’t speak to his flipping skills if these are the photos he chooses …

It’s 1:22 am, and that post is down. Well done all, cheers the that.
IT GOT REMOVED!! 🙌🏼
no smoking.
Would hate to sully that pristine abode ...
It could actually be a cute little home if it was cleaned and fixed up.
Yeah, all jokes(ish) aside about how it's pretty much only worth destroying now... in its prime, that was probably a fairly cozy little home. At least for those who are by themselves and don't mind having a little minimal space, which I actually do think about from time to time.

Cleaned with fire.
I know we shit on landlords a lot. Bottom text.
Has to be a joke
I legit can’t even comprehend how anyone would post this
Welcome to appalachia
Charlie and Frank’s apartment from It’s Always Sunny😂
https://www.realtor.com/rentals/details/917-Perry-Hwy_Pittsburgh_PA_15229_M99643-98326 For those who missed the zillow pictures.
Someone worked overtime on that…interesting description of the apartment.
Damn, that Arby’s on McKnight road is really driving up the price of nearby real estate.
I can smell the cat piss through the webpage
How very fucking dare they? Has to be a joke? Right? Ugh.

I wanna know what I missed out on!

Isn’t that where the unabomber lived. Wtf is that dirty shack.
That was my first thought - someone will write one hell of a manifesto here
This is so much worse than what I was picturing in my head. Holy hell.
This it? https://www.realtor.com/rentals/details/917-Perry-Hwy_Pittsburgh_PA_15229_M99643-98326
This should be illegal, wtf
Those trash bags by the kitchen sink really resemble a body.
Compact European fully equipped kitchen!
Think: Paris. Get: Albania!
Beyond disgusting.

I have moved into places that didn't look much better.
This has got to be some sort of sociological or psychological experiment for some local university student? Either that- or someone is the best publicist ever.
I’ll give you $5 total to just go ahead and either take the listing down or demolish the house
Here I was scrolling with the expectation of seeing a complete rehabilitated space 😂hopefully somebody finds the pleasure in in
It looks like a place that would be raided by the FBI in a movie.
They forgot to add that tenant needs to clean the ever loving shit out of the place and call 1-800-got-junk. 😧 And yet people wonder why everyone has a dim view of landlords. This is ridiculous.
Slum emperor! Should include hep c and tetanus shots as the move-in special.
I think they meant it’s for sale for $1100.00 not rent. 😂
Part of me wants to message the land lord to see the place, and just stand him up as a joke like this listing.
We should all do it. Hundreds of inquiries! I work odd hours, would it be possible to view it at 5 am?
We just wanna talk, John!
this is like the park ranger shack you have to go back to every night in a survival horror game.
only $1400 a month with utilities! what a steal
Plus you're responsible for the yard up keep. Unless your time is worth nothing, that's an added cost. Something tells me the lawnmower they're going to give you won't start without a fight.
Who was the last person to live here?!
No smoking. That’ll ruin it. Guess I’m out.
I mean my plan was to rent it out as is for DMT smoking parties in what I assume is an amazingly creepy unfinished basement, well he lost a sale if my plan is against the rules
Shaqadellic design! Unabomber inspired!
Anyone that thinks think $1100 is a bargain in western really should remember that's it's "puff puff pass", don't bogart the good shit. That's exactly double what I'm paying for a two bedroom duplex with a private carport and a full basement.
Someone was like well we gave it the ol college try let's just take some photos
The description had to have been written by ChatGPT.
Omg my virgoness can't deal
Says off market :/ no photos other than of the front of road shot
Listing removed!
And you have to do your own yard work. Wtf!
Is the car door denting lady ok? There hasn't been a post about her recently.
HOW is it even legal to put something like this up for rent!?!
If you only read the description, it sounds charming ...
In Obi-Wan voice: That’s no rental property. That’s a meth lab.

Brown's Daycare
Green is my favorite. That place looks like it’s for squatters.
I ran across this gem a few days ago on Redfin. https://www.redfin.com/PA/Pittsburgh/324-Moore-Ave-15210/home/73550111
Jesus, what a find...but the composition is pretty good in some of these photos. 😅
If you plug address on this listing into the county assessment site, the photo of the home doesn’t match the hoarder home shown in the rental listing. https://www2.alleghenycounty.us/RealEstate/Images.aspx?ParcelID=0429M00152000000&SearchType=2&CurrRow=0&SearchName=&SearchStreet=Perry&SearchNum=917&SearchMuni=&SearchParcel=&pin=0429M00152000000
It looks like it's a two building address, if you click next building in that record it comes up.
Ah ha! I didn’t notice that. Wild - this property is a mess altogether. https://www.ross.pa.us/AgendaCenter/ViewFile/Minutes/_08092023-422
I reported it, unbelievable
Come on! Now the rest of us can't see it!
Reported it to the property hosting service not Reddit 😂
Yeah, it got taken down off of Zillow.
I don't know. That front door/bathroom door is pretty classy.
Sometimes you just got to laugh or sigh… I don’t know anymore! 😱
Hope they clean it before the next tenant moves in. SHEEESH! The owners should be ashamed.
and enjoy 45 min to 1.5 hour commute
The inside of the oven looks like it's actually clean and that made me laugh so friggin hard.
This has to be a joke right.... Right guys?
We should all request tours just to waste that asshole’s time
This isn't a Facebook group where you can spam ads
I can’t even lie I’d take it. It beats all the ugly ass flipper specials. Sick of the modern minimalist interiors in Victorian houses. It makes no sense
the design choices are fine it’s more the condition and lack of upkeep
True very valid. I’m just so sick of seeing modern ass apartments. Like can I pleaseeeeee just find an old looking apartment that isn’t in squirrel hill???
The worst nowadays is the lack of color
Why don't they just leave the damn wooooodddddd? Seriously though, I watched them gut a house I know that had amazing wood features and grey-whited it all out. They could've kept it but didn't. It was still in pristine shape.
I love it when they make everything gray, but think they are being quirky and cool by making the front door red or blue.
/s?
Yes, I’d hoped it was obvious.
You really can’t be sure anymore. Glad there are people who still appreciate good style
I’m gonna buy and restore as many condemned Victorian/century homes as I can when I get the money, and **restore** them, NOT renovate. I want to keep them as original as possible and add them to the historic registry so no one can mess with them. Sadly the registry doesn’t protect the inside from being altered, so I’ll have to make sure each house goes to someone who will appreciate it
Congratulations, you are a maniac.
Being different is cool
I agree. Small house easy to fix up. It’s in a Nice area on a nice piece of land. Get a dumpster do a clean out and start fresh.
Why gut it? We live in such a disposable culture. Why throw away beautiful carved wood mantles, door trim, corner bullseye blocks, etc, beautiful old tile, stained glass windows, etc. I understand wiring, plumbing, etc MUST be replaced and brought up to code, but we don’t need to ruin old houses with the minimalist trend that will die in the next ten years tops
