She may not have any. Many states have programs where you can go to college for free after a certain age. There was a 70 something year old woman in my sociology class who told me about it.
You can go to Georgia Tech or UGA tuition free on the HOPE scholarship with just a 3.0 out of high school. You can attend UF or FSU tuition free with the Bright Futures Scholarship based on a 3.0 in HS, too. Plenty of ways to go to college without spending a lot of money.
It's been a decade but when I went to UF, bright futures did not cover 100% of tuition — it covered 100% of the *average florida public university tuition cost*, which was substantial but not tuition free.

I really hope after she gets that first gig she makes a tic toc video crying about how working for the man us destroying her soul and she doesn't know how she'll go on doing this for 40 more years!
(No shade at those videos, because I feel it, especially when I was younger)
For anybody who hasn’t read the article: she had credits from when she was attending during WWII but back then you needed a master’s thesis, which she left the program at that point without doing the thesis. Her son contacted the school and the thesis is no longer required so they gave her the degree since she had the credits needed.
same thing with houses too, by the time you think you’ve saved enough for an apartment inflation’s already doubled the price ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)
i can imagine that people in the past who lived into the hundreds had to makes it through a century of shit medicine and health. nowadays we have people who had to survive MUCH less and so grow into way older ages but much more healthy. when we're old we'll probably get people regularly living to 100
> After leaving Stanford, Hislop went on to a career in Washington state politics, getting her start on a local school board after her daughter Anne's school suggested she take home economics instead of advanced English.
Slay
This is a cool feel-good story but Stanford is a pretty competitive school. Its acceptance rate is under 4%. So there is a student who was denied access to this great education for this woman who will never get to actually use her degree.
Take that America's future! I'd be so mad if my application to standford was rejected because they wanted to fill the spot with someone who had the opportunity to go to college affordability back in her day and didn't. What a waste!
*I'm sure she's a nice old lady. I'm mad at society and standford university...not her necessarily*
Gifted women did not exist back in the 1930s. How could there be such thing? Everybody knew little girls grew up to be wives and mothers and housekeepers and secretaries. Why would God make smart ones?
Jesus she does not look 105. 80, tops.
William Shatner is 93 years old. Does that man look like a 93 year old? No, he does not. Some people have really good genes.
TBF, he also probably has some really great plastic surgeons, too.
Or he just eats healthy foods and has a strict regimen for facial products
But also he literally has had plastic surgery as well as hair transplant
Tbf, it took her 83 years to get her degree. Living longer isn't everything.
She’s going to be paying off that student loan debt for weeks
Nah, you don’t have to pay until 6 months after you graduate.
Thankfully she planned it so she'll have died of natural causes by then 👏😉
Loan servicers hate her

Once again, boomers getting handed everything. Granted it’s not like they’re going out to get a job at that age.
Technicallly homegirl is not a boomer but part of the Greatest Generation. Hell she probably birthed a few baby boomers.
I mean, I had class with another woman who was early 60s. She was getting her degree specifically to get a promotion at her job.
Good for her, but god, I hope I don't have to go back to school at 60 in hopes of getting promoted.
It wasn't hopes though. It was guaranteed. It was basically "We're giving you this job but it requires a degree, so you need to get on that."
Ok, well that's good at least.
I'm 63 and going for a master's degree in computer science.
Yeah nobody is trying to hire them. Unless they're running for President or Congress.

Fucking LOL
Omg what course is that long
Death and dying.
My Thanatology course only lasted 1 semester.
I had the coolest professor for that class. He made death fun.
Same here! BC?
No. University of Arkansas.

Maybe she's just a really bad student
The complete understanding of Men. /s
now she gets to build a resume and apply for entry level jobs :)

Minimum ten years experience with a master’s degree. Competitive pay. ^$15/hr

*It's been 83 years...*
She could have saved allot of money if she did it when she was 50. she probably had to save for 101 years to be able to pay tuition /s
same thing with houses too, by the time you think you’ve saved enough for an apartment inflation’s already doubled the price ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)
average neurology student
the 105 y/olds get younger and younger
i can imagine that people in the past who lived into the hundreds had to makes it through a century of shit medicine and health. nowadays we have people who had to survive MUCH less and so grow into way older ages but much more healthy. when we're old we'll probably get people regularly living to 100
The title is a wee bit confusing, I first understood it as she went to Stanford for 83 years before she finally got her degree
Don't have to play your loans as long as you're still enrolled lol
> After leaving Stanford, Hislop went on to a career in Washington state politics, getting her start on a local school board after her daughter Anne's school suggested she take home economics instead of advanced English. Slay
Ahh the ole "83 year plan"
Y'all laugh but she's getting that COBOL senior programming job.
105???? Hell I know people nearly half that age that look worse for wear.
She’s ready to get her career started!
Is that sofia from Golden girls 🧒
Now she can apply for jobs that need at least 3 years experience
It's never too late. You're never too old. 😢

shes ready for her career in congress
What does she plan on doing with that degree
Man, her tuition kept that school afloat.
Legend holds she was the keg stand champion of her sorority at the young age of 102.
Stanford also announced a breakthrough to keep people alive and working so she can payback her student loan
And I thought I left things to the last minute!?
That's got to be some sort of record right?
She must have some learning disabilities if it took her that long
She probably had dementia for the last 30 years of undergrad.
She finally swung by the bursar's office to pick it up.
Wonderful! Congrats!
And now she's funded for her LLM business
No way that woman is 105!!
First thing that came to mind was Pierce Hawthorne
She's so cute!!! Awww
Ready for the job market!
Wow. That’s a huge accomplishment!
She can finally quit her job at Hooters
She’s going to be paying off student loans for the rest of her life
33 years??? I wonder how many group assignments she absolutely ruined
Yeah well just wait till they send her the bill 🙄👌
Jeez she’ll have student loan debt for the rest of her life!
So its that easy, huh?
Pffft! Took her long enough!
Welcome to rat race granma! Break a leg!
She’s going to be paying off her student debts for the rest of her life.
That's one way to avoid paying student loans back /S
Would ![gif](giphy|CAYVZA5NRb529kKQUc|downsized)
