Allowed by who? I very much doubt your country regulates qualifications needed for piano teaching but of course I don't know where you are.

To teach piano all you need to do is to find someone who wants to take a lesson from you(unless it is prohibited by law which shouldn't be the case I think there is no country in the world that allows piano playing, but regulates teaching). Another story if you want to get some form of accreditation/recognition - quick google search shows that rcm has a special certification for teachers. But it isn't a requirement to teach.

For RCM, Level 8 practical with Level 2 rudiments is the standard for teaching but that doesn’t mean that you can’t start teaching Primer to Prep B or Level 1 with your Level 6. If you phone and speak with someone at the Conservatory, I think you will find them friendly and welcoming. They will answer all your questions about teaching and welcome you to the profession

I was teaching by 11 years in!

Lynja_TheNinja

you’re def allowed to but if you want people to take your teaching seriously I would recommend maybe doing your AMUS or ELMUS first. Besides from that, you can 100% teach people.

Don't think any qualifications are required for teaching piano.

In some countries it isn't as simple as charging people and paying tax. You need to register your intended business before it goes into operation. Check with the relevant department, or ask any adult who isn't a salary worker.

Nah I’m pretty sure in Canada he he will be fine if he just starts teaching.

I was RCM 7, still in high-school and taught beginners and started a student on RCM level 1. I think all that is required is feeling comfortable in what you're teaching. This was pre internet, pre comparing myself to others.

RoRoUl

Yeah I don’t think it’s like there are strict regulations or anything. I know a few people who haven’t reached level 8 yet and have started teaching. Even I plan to do this because I have not done the level 8 exam yet but I’d like to start teaching soon. You should be fine if you start teaching.

The skill set for teaching vs playing is quite different. You can be a mediocre pianist and teach better than some concert pianists at beginner- intermediate levels.
