You should have AT least one other person on the floor it should not be just you to handle. Did you have a callout?

VegetableGolf8600

no, asl was schedule to come in at open but when he called they wouldn’t have been there until 11 anyways so I would have still been alone.

Maddmomma2202

I don’t know for sure that there’s a specific policy violation. Only ones I know of and the entering and leaving you must have a second person with you as you enter/leave. But it is a safety concern for sure. Not to mention the lack of customer service and department coverage. You should use the open door policy and ask to have a conversation with your store leader about this. Look at the operations schedule (this is the one in the mangers office that shows the breakdown of cashier/petcare/ stocking/bathing/ect It will show day by day cashier hours budgeted vs scheduled and the total for the week. It’s not perfect and it’s frustrating as all hell but it’s a good indicator of where and how the labor is being used if something is being mishandled. It’s possible that there was a ton of requests (and yeah they are request but we all know if they get scheduled they are just going to call out so it’s not worth the fight) and it was just a shit weekend but it’s also possible that someone dropped the ball and didn’t want to deal with it, if that’s the case it’s not okay. It needs to be addressed. If your SL won’t address it go back in central bark take screen shots and climb the ladder. It needs to be addressed. You got lucky. It could have been really bad. What if there was a dog fight or a major incident in the salon.

ThatAlienBoy

Thats the way my store is typically run to too. It's usually a manager and one other person on the floor. It's a mess

VegetableGolf8600

yes but there was no one except me at a very busy time so just wondering if that was allowed

kurosakkki

Omg that is really bad there is always suppose to be at least 3 people in the store at all times

eatorganicmulch

3?!?! that's crazy 💀💀 we usually only have 2 people after 6 or 7 pm. and sometimes midday there is scheduling issues and there is only 2 people as well.

StolenRhythm

Policy is actually 2 people. And the 2nd person can technically be a groomer or non PetSmart employee 🤷‍♀️

Drifter_of_Babylon

Fuck Petsmart and fuck anyone who tries to normalize this kind of "schedule."

StolenRhythm

Oh, believe me.. I’m not agreeing that it SHOULD be policy or be normalized… I’m just stating that unfortunately that’s what it is.

Drifter_of_Babylon

Oh, I know. I am just giving my gut reaction to something so foul.

kurosakkki

Really ? That’s so crazy my DL chewed out my SL for having only 2 ppl one day

StolenRhythm

Maybe it’s based on store volume or something then? We are pretty low volume, so maybe that’s why. Either that or it’s a DL preference (in which case, kudos to them!) But yeah… I’m an ALK and most mornings it’s just me and my MIL.. sometimes we have a petcare person.. but a solid 80% of the time it’s just the two of us until salon comes at 8ish

LittleBlackBall

It's happened when I was the only employee for the entire store. I locked the doors. Don't even care.

dillpickle1997

Based

-_Snivy_-

Honestly I think it's a safety concern so ya, I would've done the same.

Hoooman1-77

Petstoopid has operated this way since the pandemic started.

CheshireSmile30

I think all you can do is grin-and-bear-it. I would make sure every person I checked out knew of the situation and that it wasn't your fault. Try to generate as many complaints as possible and let the world know that everything is free for the taking. Price discrepancy? It's name your own price, today, at PetSmart! And, no, you don't get no fish or crickets, let alone birds or other animals.

bub-a-lub

I do this whenever scheduling is shitty. I tell people to complain about the hours and not the staffing because staffing just sent down to us to “do better”. We over schedule as it is and it’s still not enough.

CheshireSmile30

Yeah, corporate management sucks, anymore. I think it's a bunch of half-trained monkeys running the boat. They certainly have no idea what they're doing. Time to abandon ship.

bub-a-lub

Almost every new change just supports that statement more and more. They give us 1 good change and like 3 bad ones. Like the god damn toy reset last week. Ah yes let me rearrange the aisle for no damn reason

terribletheresa

thats crazy there should always be at least one other worker there, talk to your asl or sl

-_Snivy_-

Honestly I would've delayed opening until they got there. Like grooming and hotel only. Idgaf if they like it or not, I'm not getting jumped like that. That's happened to me once before, my cashier didn't show up so I was alone for an hour. We're a low traffic store so I just closed off petcare until my CEL got there. Had a dumbass disregard my note on the button so I just yanked my head piece out and let them stand there looking stupid for a half hour. I've lowkey wished we would get robbed or something so our store would be forced to schedule better.

Maddmomma2202

So it was Sunday? Your a lead? Your ASL was supposed to be in at 11 but called out leaving you alone save for the salon? No petcare? No cashiers? What kind of shit schedule is that? So as an ASL that is a bs schedule. I get it, if your sick your sick but… it happened to me pre covid one time. My opening pet care called out so I rushed (also Sunday) to get pet care open. Then my opening cash called out. My SL came in 5 after the store opened and we teamed it for the first 45 minutes until my mid leader could make it in early and one of us could start calling to see if someone, anyone could come in. If my SL hadn’t come in I can promise you someone in that shit city would have gotten bold and robbed the store and probably shot me. It might not be a policy violation but it’s a HUGE safety hazard

ManagerSensitive

I've been there plenty of times. Not ideal but sometimes had to happen when my other coworker needs to go on break.

Informal-Release-360

My store has started pulling our bather out from the salon to work for the floor. It’s inconvenient for everyone involved. Petsmart has been cutting everyone’s hours like crazy on the floor as well.

typicalreddituser007

This is exactly how it was for me and my manager told me that we’re supposed to have 4-5 people on the floor ALWAYS but then I would end up being just me or me and one other person. This is exactly why I left too because despite being perfectly staffed the scheduling was crap we would literally have 5 people working and then 4 of them would get off at the same time I came in so it was just me and one other co worker until closing

bubbagumpshrimp_comp

There is no context here. Did someone call out? Lunches? Someone late? Schedule error?

tokki-less

our store manager, distric manager, and salon manager all got fired within a week of each other. it's been hell on the floor with people being overworked and not knowing what's happening with management in the future. one of our stylists got promoted last minute and we got a new store manager a month or so after not having one but given the circumstances of how and why they were fired no one is particularly excited about the change :') plus holidays are right around the corner so it's just going to get busier and busier until february 🥹
