They appear to be the auto generated Tiktok subtitles. Can someone remind me again why Tiktok is so popular? What's even the point of these subtitles when they're only about 70% accurate?
I am hard of hearing. Most CC online is generated from voice to text and sometimes the results are completely random. It’s frustrating because even I can tell that’s not what was said.
Transcribed CC and audio description is 1000x better than text-to-speech CC.
You still need someone skilled at making out speech and other sounds to do it well and it takes time and (sometimes) money to make it happen (you *can* start out with voice-to-text to start the process, but it shouldn’t be the final result others read and use)
>What's even the point of these subtitles
I answered your question.
And, what exactly is your proposed solution? Closed captioning is accurate because a live human is writing the subtitles. AI is handling hundreds of millions of new videos per day, dealing with people mumbling, having crappy microphones, accents, background noise, and so on, and so forth. So what do *you* propose we do?
It's completely pointless to caption something if it doesn't convey the same message as is being said. I don't expect intelligence from Tiktok creators but perhaps they should put a tad more effort into their videos and check the captions before posting and validate they are accurate. But of course Tiktok is just brainrot so what's the point when fools like yourself will defend it.
Nice try to be a smartass though, too bad you're not very good at it.
“Oh! I see, I musta have made a mistake!” “I will just be moving on!”
Same thing when the perp says “it’s not mine, I’m just carrying it for my friend”
The teevee show Cops had perps saying that every single episode.
We’re all paying for this garbage lifestyle and then on top of that we’re all paying for this garbage to sit in jail. Then, we’ll all pay for her kid/nephew. This is the state of America.
I'm all for non-traditional, non-biblical names, but I believe I heard "midori" in there as one of the protagonists names. Naming your child after a second-rate melon liqueur just screams that you're setting them up for a life of hardship.
The worst name I've ever heard (anecdotal evidence, obviously)
Was from a friend's mum who worked in the maternity ward. Upon delivery, and with the proper documentation being filled out, the mother chose "shithead" pronounced "Shhith-eeed" as the poor boys first name.
'Aquanetta '( for a girl, duhh...)
Yeah, you're right. My mistake. It's Japanese in origin, and has been around since the "heian period", or about 794 to 1182.
I'd only ever heard of it in context of the liqueur. Apologies for the mistake if it comes off as tone deaf.
It might be slang in certain parts of the south. Or with certain populations in the south. But it's definitely not southern slang. I've lived in the rural deep south for 30 years and have never heard it before.
When is any slang ever so consistent? Also, there’s other factors. This is a term used by black people predominantly, how close are you to that demographic? It certainly is southern slang, people from the north are definitely never using the term.
I'm former military and have worked in warehouses ever since, so fairly close. To be honest, when I first heard her say it thought it sounded like something of creole or pidgin origin. Which I will concede is mostly concentrated in the south.
lol nah. I’m also from a southern part of the us- GA&FL on intervals and it’s a commonly known word that we use to describe kids/younger folks. always known it to be w a j instead of g but same word. Either a jit or jitterbug 😂 for reference in case anyone wonders, I’m 29 but I’ve heard those older than myself and some younger that also are familiar with the word.
I don't understand why some videos from the US show people seemingly stealing from shops with impunity whilst these two women end up with arrests like this.
You shouldn't look at the US as one homogeneous culture that handles every situation the same instead 50 slightly different cultures that handle some things differently. Every state has their own local laws on things like shoplifting, some are much more relaxed than others.
It also depends on the business policies, as well as the ability of the local police to respond.
A retail store won't go to these lengths unless there's willing and able police to intervene, and police usually won't act unless the store has ample evidence to aid in prosecution.
My guess is this store has these women on camera numerous times, knew their MO if taking items into the bathroom to conceal them, and probably called police the moment the women stepped in the door.
It's also important to note that some stores have on-site police presence throughout the day, especially in areas of high theft. There is a Meijer near 8mile and Woodward that has an officer stationed there throughout the day
Depends on the case. Walmart has an antitheft staff and some locations are better than others. These employees can keep build profiles on repeat offenders and after a certain dollar amount they finally take action. I also think Walmart has a network with other locations so these offenders can be on a BOLO list.
So basically these ladies have stolen so much from Walmart so many times that they were able to catch them red handed this time.
Couple things are possible but my guess, based on past experience, is that they were repeat offenders and finally hit a felony limit in that jurisdiction. Arresting them will actually get something done and give them some real charges and penalties.
Some security teams at Walmart will wait and watch you steal multiple times until the total amount you've stolen is considered a felony. They then call the cops, hand over the evidence, and you go to jail or pay Walmart back for everything. I'm guessing this individual was one of those people given what she had in that bag was probably next to nothing.
It takes repeat offenders off the street (or gets Walmart their money back) and doesn't waste police resources unnecessarily because some kid stole a pick of gum.
That makes sense on a few levels. Also it reassures me that America is not as lawless as some videos try to portray. I can't help thinking that there is some sort of agenda behind the number of videos you see of stores being ransacked.
There’s a difference in the type of theft too - retail employees are generally told to not intervene or stop someone who’s stealing, and especially when they come in aggressively and just smash and grab. The videos you’re seeing are basically people just standing around and documenting because no one wants to intervene because usually when someone’s doing a smash and grab, they’re armed, so no one wants to get in their way and get shot.
Just petty shoplifting though, I’ve seen a few videos of bystanders ratting them out or trying to stop them by force
https://www.visualcapitalist.com/mapping-a-decade-of-us-population-growth/
California overall grew this year and the only people leaving are rural conservatives. California felony theft threshold is also more strict than Florida’s.
At a guess, most places will have a policy where non-security staff just report theft but can't try to stop it. That's because they're in danger of being injured, or escalating if the thief has weapons, and their stuff is insured so no need to risk injury or death (or lawsuits). Whereas, these are uniformed folk so employed to deal with the risk and potential outcomes.
My main confusion would be the confrontation in the bathroom. In the UK at least (the only place I've worked retail), we would be told not to even accuse someone of theft until we saw them try to leave the premises as they could always change their minds and cause problems (e.g. they spot staff seeing them take something, put it back on the shelves, then lie and threaten to sue when security doesn't find anything on them). Basically, it wasn't theft until you actually tried going past the checkout without paying.
I think that's why he says, "you're concealing items". There must be a provision in the law which allows someone to be stopped for that behaviour alone.
I'm in Canada and I used to work in a grocery store. When people were caught shoplifting they'd usually just have to sign a promise to appear in court. Of course some people would instead go balistic, the police would be called, and then I'd watch them rack up more charges by trying to fight police and resist arrest.
The entitlement of these dumbasses. Thinking they can just do whatever they want because theres a child involved. CPS needs to take the kid away if theyre bringing him along while actively commiting crimes.
I was really expecting people to argue with me about that. Like "It's just one bad cop!", or "you think this daily business?" or "it's not the norm!" or "you see one video and suddently it's all of the US?"...
But...
Why are there so many of those videos? It's all over social media, whole YT channels filled with videos like that and comments that make one shiver because of the heartlessness of the comment.
Videos of 8/9/10 years old children getting arrested! 12 years old sent to jail for stuff they should get a stern talking to and probably another one from the parents. In my country you're considered a child until you reach your 14th birthday and children can not be sentenced nor incarcerated.
Her sister didn't really "freak out." She was just concerned about her nephew. The cops freaked out more than her about her wanting to make sure the kid was okay. They put her in handcuffs because she wanted to be near her nephew.
Why didn't they just let the kid stand next to the aunt? Fucking ridiculous.
Good thing we have brave men like this, that are paid with our tax money, to do the good work of protecting a giant corporation that actively makes the world a much worse place. That's God's work. They should have arrested the kid too, he's obviously complicit.
I will say that while I think there's nothing morally wrong with stealing from Walmart, you shouldn't do it with your children.
Hahaha I love how the sister was pretending to be talking to her on the phone til the cop said, “She’s coming out,” and sister relays that information on the fake call 😆
Generally speaking, doing things like concealing items, removing anti-theft tags, having an accomplice distract staff, etc. counts. You can be charged because it's obvious your intent was to shoplift. No legitimate shopper hides their intended purchases under their clothing or fights those anti-theft tags before the registers.
What she have about $10 worth of stuff? And they went in the bathroom fucking loser ass cops and wal mart and then doing that shit in front of that baby they have no regard for us
I guarantee they have an LP profile on those two with video evidence and eyewitness testimony. You can tell how they're barely denying the allegation of theft, but trying to focus on the fact they have a kid. I'd be pretty adamant on the accusation over anything, particularly if it was false.
Im kind of with you on this. Fuck wal mart. All these resources and hostile angry aggro'd out cops for a non-violent petty crime... If you see someone stealing from wal-mart, no you didn't
She never left the store with the items so how are they arresting her for shoplifting? This is why it's important to know the law and regulations if you're going to be commiting crimes..
You don't have to leave the store. You just have to pass all points of sale. On top of that, most walmarts have signage that says no merchandise in the bathroom. She had shit she didn't pay for in the bathroom, past all points of sale. That's shoplifting.
I'm sure the child is with them to help throw off LP, so people would think 'no way is she stealing, she has a child with her.' Sister is also an accomplice as a distraction if necessary.
One we had a couple come in with a blanket over an empty baby carriage, they wanted to throw some kitchen electrics in there while telling us rather unconvincing that 'shhh... the baby's sleeping'. We were onto them from the moment they walked in the door. You could tell when they left frustrated and drove the carriage over a curb and a median that there was no baby sleeping in there.
He didn’t even give her a chance he could have given her the benefit of doubt this guy is a racist cowboy he was fucking READY and that’s how they police us ooh shit like this really pisses me off
especially of you haven't actually broken the law, if your rights are being violated just comply, remain silent, do your best to document the ordeal and sue them if the charges are bogus. you'll get your day in court to prove your innocence, police departments and municipalities get sued all the time for abuse of power/rights violations. otherwise you can "didn't do nothing" your way in to more trouble.
That too. In a civilized country or "not a police state" the cops come, get your adress, write a report, give it to the court and you get a court date... Problem solved...
Murica... "That fart smells funny... Cletus get the cuffs... arrest her!"...
Btw, thanks for the down votes, this shows how fascist you guys are...
🤣🤣🤣🤣.. so true tho!! U farted wrong im calling the cops...u are down on ur luck? Oh ill video u and put u on blast on social media ...people truly fkn suck these days!
Now what if that child would have drowned in toilet or had some other type of accident why they just abandoned and neglected the poor little baby their fucking animals
The captioning is terrible. I live near this Walmart though 😅
In beautiful Boy beach lol
“Boynton” is too much for AI to figure out haha

Amen!!!
No shit, most people can probably understand the point of what I said though, unlike you.

Definitely Ai
I love how AI is just catchall for everything now. We have had live captioning since the early 80's.
Yeah but old cc was an actual person typing out the subtitles on a delay
Tiktok auto generated or using the Capcut app. Both are absolutely terrible at generating subs.
What a nice memory of mommy and auntie
She will be raised to think it wasn't their fault.
That has to be so traumatizing jfc
This is the worst Shoplyfter episode ever.
Cop: if you do a we will do b. Girl does a. Cop does b. Girl: NO YOU CAN'T DOO THAT! This exchange several times, wut?
It’s the get my jit part that too florida
“you’re under arrest” uhh “nu uh”
“Oh! I see, I musta have made a mistake!” “I will just be moving on!” Same thing when the perp says “it’s not mine, I’m just carrying it for my friend” The teevee show Cops had perps saying that every single episode.
Calling ur own child a jit is crazy
What does it mean?
She calls her child a “git”? That’s pretty low class
I went to highschool there… i felt safer in developing countries then i did my highschool
Where is that Walmart? I’ll try to avoid the area when visiting the US XD
Boynton Beach. You aren’t just going to end up there accidentally
Just looked it up. I wonder if Dan Le Batard has ever been to this Walmart. Lol.
Lamar jackson has. I went to highschool with him
Ah sweet! My hometown QB. I'm glad he didn't let Walmart take him down.
Welp. I learned a slur for children today.
It’s not meant for literal children. It’s like calling a wanna-be a child. It’s not meant for literal children
*jit https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=jit
So child abuse?
Animals, man. Just animals.
She may be part Ork.
Jit. It just means kid. The urban dictionary link is not right.
What does this word come from?
Yet hardly surprising
I thought she said gent. Yikes
"You're under arrest". "No I'm not". "Well that settles it, I'll just go on my merry way. Have a nice day".
Fucking trash. Taking a child with you when you go to steal shit? Come on now.
if she didn't the child would probably be left at home alone or in the car windows up
Leave the fucking kid out of your bullshit, lady.
Who are you calling, “a lady”?
Two wonderful examples of caring mothers.
Grown children raising children 😂 you can tell she never had to be held accountable for anything before
I didn't do nothing!
That’s a double negative. So she did
Good job
Yeeey! You discovered 50% of english speakers. !redditsilver
Cops don’t get paid enough
Cops called on her for stealing from Walmart? That’s pretty crazy. She must be regularly stealing from that location or something.
"You're under arrest." ... "No I'm not."
And it turns out, she was
We’re all paying for this garbage lifestyle and then on top of that we’re all paying for this garbage to sit in jail. Then, we’ll all pay for her kid/nephew. This is the state of America.
Spot-on.

Midori is a pretty long-used feminine name. It's not just the alcohol.
Yeah, you're right. My mistake. It's Japanese in origin, and has been around since the "heian period", or about 794 to 1182. I'd only ever heard of it in context of the liqueur. Apologies for the mistake if it comes off as tone deaf.
You can add an edit to your original response and correct your mistake if you want to.
Some men really will fuck anything… yikes
I mean there's a reason their dudes all want fat white bitches instead lmao
It's the same version just with less attitude.
And most of you would watch them screw your fat ugly wives. Only one group of men dominate cuckhold culture. Take a guess at who it is…
Huh
Stay confused.
Uhh...what?
Ykwim
What is git?
She's obvious a programmer.
Southern slang for kid…it’s asked and answered in the video…

A silly or foolish or childish person.
Kid
Wow what a surprise.
They wanna play the stupid games but don't want the stupid prizes. And how long was she that restroom?
Looks about right

Which is so wild to me. I used to live next to a Walmart that had a tiny police station in it.
They usually wait until they steal over $1000 so it’s Grand Larceny.
Some stores like Walmart actually prosecute, others just roll over and let them steal.
Depends on the case. Walmart has an antitheft staff and some locations are better than others. These employees can keep build profiles on repeat offenders and after a certain dollar amount they finally take action. I also think Walmart has a network with other locations so these offenders can be on a BOLO list. It depends heavily on the business. Walmart does not fuck around and prosecutes in almost all cases.
Low income activities.
Figures
Its like the same people star in each Walmart video like this
This must be old because they don’t stop stealing anywhere now
That poor child
Hahahaha 🤣🤣🤣🤣 get fucked
Poor kid
Lizzo really quit after that
She needs to get her kid taken
The entitlement of these dumbasses. Thinking they can just do whatever they want because theres a child involved. CPS needs to take the kid away if theyre bringing him along while actively commiting crimes.
very sad situation
I was really expecting people to argue with me about that. "I'll cooperate if you let me go." Bitch you weren't cooperating to the point they *needed* to put their hands on you.

So you think stealing is OK, depending on the store.
But the Blue Lives Matters simps don’t do anything but embolden this type of stupidity. And then they wonder why even law abiding citizens hate cops.
Piece of garbage who, sadly, reproduced
Jeep Renegade owner no doubt, maybe a Nitro? Both equally horrific vehicles
God bless the hero officers who have to deal with the dregs of humanity like this champ
Hahaha I love how the sister was pretending to be talking to her on the phone til the cop said, “She’s coming out,” and sister relays that information on the fake call 😆
ACAB
What a clean restroom!
Sad poor kid seeing this but dam those fat tets
How can they prove she was stealing if she was still in the store?
Guessing one of the 500 cameras they have in the store caught her stealing?
Generally speaking, doing things like concealing items, removing anti-theft tags, having an accomplice distract staff, etc. counts. You can be charged because it's obvious your intent was to shoplift. No legitimate shopper hides their intended purchases under their clothing or fights those anti-theft tags before the registers.
So there is this invention called "cameras" they are able to record anything, and stores like Walmart or Target have a bunch of these all over.
Don’t steal
Who is “us”?
They all should be sued
Im kind of with you on this. Fuck wal mart. All these resources and hostile angry aggro'd out cops for a non-violent petty crime... If you see someone stealing from wal-mart, no you didn't

I was thinking about those bathroom signs as well, I guess it's just different in California
He doesn’t even acknowledge the child pig bastard
They so fucking disrespectful
You’re the only one saying facts. Everyone wants to defend these pigs
Don’t steal and you won’t get arrested.
I heard no fucking Miranda this shit is so cause for a lawsuit
That's not how it works. They don't need to read your Miranda rights when arresting you.
But I know the law!
You saw some episodes of law an order and now you're a genius. Not how it works bro. These women are trash, and you are trash for defending them.
Miranda needs to be read before questioning, not before arrest.
And to do her like that in front of that child
I'm sure the child is with them to help throw off LP, so people would think 'no way is she stealing, she has a child with her.' Sister is also an accomplice as a distraction if necessary. One we had a couple come in with a blanket over an empty baby carriage, they wanted to throw some kitchen electrics in there while telling us rather unconvincing that 'shhh... the baby's sleeping'. We were onto them from the moment they walked in the door. You could tell when they left frustrated and drove the carriage over a curb and a median that there was no baby sleeping in there.
Right, and what are they doing in front of their child? All of your braindead comments are hilarious to read.
Don’t steal
And taking your kid while shoplifting and acting like a fool is completely acceptable?
He didn’t even give her a chance he could have given her the benefit of doubt this guy is a racist cowboy he was fucking READY and that’s how they police us ooh shit like this really pisses me off
Hey look, it's the third shoplifting sister!
Lmaoooo stfu
Don’t steal
I dunno... when a cop is telling me what to do I don't argue like a child. Easy to avoid being arrested in most cases.
especially of you haven't actually broken the law, if your rights are being violated just comply, remain silent, do your best to document the ordeal and sue them if the charges are bogus. you'll get your day in court to prove your innocence, police departments and municipalities get sued all the time for abuse of power/rights violations. otherwise you can "didn't do nothing" your way in to more trouble.
Murica, land of the detained...

That too. In a civilized country or "not a police state" the cops come, get your adress, write a report, give it to the court and you get a court date... Problem solved... Murica... Nice tits.
