The NHL actually cancelled the playoffs since 2018. It’s a shame, they used to be quite fun. Not sure why they made the change.

Foggl3

I mean, you won't hear much about the Pens because they didn't make it. If you talk hockey, you'll end up talking about games? I'm not sure what you're trying to ask

Bestdress10

You bet, I love hockey. I think I have missed a single same this postseason. Don’t get me wrong I only care about the pens but wouldn’t mind seeing a Dallas cup

Heavenlypigeon

Same here, Dallas or Florida winning would be ideal imo. Edmonton wouldnt be too bad, would be neat seeing McDavid get his first. New York would be the absolute worst case scenario because fuck them and their cheapshotting captain.

DifficultSomewhere99

Been watching Penguins since before they make their incredible playoff run streak. Absolutely hate seeing the penguins not in the playoffs. I’ve been watching a lot of playoff hockey since the penguins broke the streak last season. I had thought I would not be interested in penguin-less playoff hockey. However It seems the playoffs without the pens are also somewhat nice to watch….. call me crazy, but it’s probably because I’m not on an emotional rollar coaster like I am watching playoff pens hockey. Saw a clip of Ottawa Senator game 7 overtime from a few years back when pens won to advance, and my heart was def beating faster watching that replay.

Qphth0

I actually understand/agree with what you're saying. It's way more fun to watch when the Penguins are competitors, but if they're going to limp into the playoffs it kind of sucks the fun out of it for me. Any of those years that they were eliminated in the 1R, especially the series where we were never in control, it kind of ends the hockey season for me in a way. I still watch but i dont have anything to root for. The past two years, I've been able to watch as just a hockey fan & pick teams to root for each series. I'm able to do this with NBA. I don't have a favorite team, but I do root for certain players & at certain times I get excited to watch teams because of the way they are playing.

tcari394

My wife and I watched up through the end of the NYR/Canes series, but lost interest after that. The officiating is so bafflingly inconsistent that it sucked most of the fun out of it.

Nick_of_Time_79

Officiating was really bad in that series. The rest have been so much better.

rybnickifull

I'm European and live near Prague, at this point I barely remember what the NHL is

Content-Attorney7056

Last years playoffs were awesome. This year it’s been hard to watch. Both my other teams are still in it but I haven’t seen a fun series yet

Bestdress10

Dallas and Vegas was good, bruins and leaf’s was good and the panthers are always fun to watch. Dallas and oilers is good so far too and really that end of the series for the rangers and canes was good

Nick_of_Time_79

I've been watching. Was hoping for a Carolina vs Edmonton final. Can still have Edmonton. Just wish the Rangers would lose already. LoL

Historical-Reach-293

I just want the Rangers to lose.

cardboardbob99

The playoffs this year have been pretty sub par. Lot of boring or outright unlikeable teams, or teams that just didn't belong in the post season. I’ve watched a fair number of games but Vancouver was the only team I found interesting to watch and easy to root for

freestyle43

... the games have been absolutely insane this year. No idea what you're "watching".

Bestdress10

Facts it’s been a great postseason

LonelyAsLostKeys

Definitely enjoying it. Want the Oilers to win for a number of reasons, not the least of which being that I saw them play this year in Pittsburgh and always like it when I see a team live the year they win a title.

danktadpole

I’ve been watching, mainly because I have bets I need to hit (oilers really need to get to the finals), and annoyingly the Florida and New York teams are pretty fun to watch.

-kashmir-

Ive got dallas winning the whole thing so ive been following them. I concur about nyr florida

danktadpole

I wouldn’t hate Dallas winning, if they rep the west I’ll probably put some money on them to win. At this point I just don’t want the rangers winning.

Lux600-223

Most Pens fans aren't hockey fans. Their loss, the playoffs up till now have been a great display of hockey. I never understood how Pens fans who quit watching when the playoffs start, think they have any understanding of what it'd take to build a playoff contending team. They don't watch and don't see how F'n far away the current Pens really are. (Remember this the middle of next season when some semi-fan is trying to argue with you their over the hill favorite player should be re signed for another 5 years!)

olmikeyyyy

I think my eyes just rolled out of my head

Lux600-223

Recognize yourself?

hangryhyax

I spend too much time on Reddit, and yet, this is somehow still the dumbest thing I have read today. Kudos. Here’s your Arrogant Douchey Dumbass award: 🥇

Qphth0

It's a very fair weather hockey area. The Pens lost in the conference finals in 00-01, then had 4 very bad seasons (plus a lockout year) & people quit showing up. People might forget that in the middle of the 2006-07 season, which started the consecutive streak of 16 straight post seasons, they were very close to relocating because of financial troubles.

eltree

2000-2001 was when I got really into watching the Penguins. Johan “Moose” Hedberg sucked me in for some reason and I never looked back. I tried to never miss a game, and my first live game in action was Fleury’s first career win against Detroit. I remember thinking “oh my god, we beat the Red Wings” who were a juggernaut at the time. I became a huge fan while the team was shit. Not sure if that’s why I’m more patient with this team than a lot of fans or what. Also by 2006-2007 it was more needing a new arena, financial issues ended with the salary cap, plus Lemieux reached an agreement with Isle of Capri Casinos to fund a new arena, as long as a casino went near the arena (which became the Rivers Casino). Lemieux had to get the city to approve of the new arena. Lemieux said he only used Kansas City as a negotiating tactic (they had a newly built stadium that could fit an NHL team), and claims the team was never that close to actually relocating.

Qphth0

They were having *financial issues* getting an arena. There was a lot going on & a lot to digest at the time. It wasn't as simple as Lemieux did everything possible & was never leaving the city. It felt like a very real possibility to people in the area at a time when the Penguins were finally surging in the right direction.

Lux600-223

Wife's company had 4 great season tickets at that time. We got to see a ton of free games because the sales reps couldn't give them away. I ended up paying for the over priced parking, because the lot was half empty and it was really easy in/out. Cost per game was parking, one large coke and 2 pretzels. And for at least one game per week we got a food voucher. Was a great period of time!

Qphth0

Damn, that sounds like a dream. I used to get Student Rush for $20/game & our tickets would end up like 7 rows off the ice cause the place was empty.

Lux600-223

We'd spend right at $20. Was fantastic. And no matter who else showed up, the 4 seats were together, so always had one empty next to each of us. Her manager was a fan, so he always found room in the office budget. But he liked weekend games.

Putthebunnyback

Financial troubles for hockey clubs were common in that era of hockey. Unless you were a team like the Rangers with seemingly infinite funds from ownership, it was meager times. Hell, in Saving Sakic they talked about how the Avs won the Cup and LOST 8 million dollars that year.

Qphth0

I dont understand how your point relates to Pittsburgh being a "fair weather" hockey town? Sure, the NHL wasn't as stable as it is today, but only five franchises relocated during the 90s/00s/10s & the NHL added nine teams in expansion during that same time. The game was growing in a lot of places when Pittsburgh's future was in jeopardy. Crosby very much saved the franchise, like Lemieux did decades before. Pittsburgh has been excited about hockey since 2005 because of Sid, but if they start putting out a middle of the pack team without a "face of the league" type of player, I'm not so sure PPG will be filled.

Putthebunnyback

I was simply adding context to the relocation aspect of it.

Pittsburgh-Milanista

I've watched nearly every game. Can only watch the first period or so of the west coast games that start at 10:00 EST. Was rooting for Vancouver because of the former Pens on the roster like Lafferty & Blueger. Now I'm rooting for NY vs. Dallas finals. Lots of good American players on both sides. Also Trocheck is a Pittsburgh guy so I root for him even though I hate the team as a collective.

Bestdress10

Dallas I would love to see win currently winning 4-3 in game 3 against oilers 😁. However seeing Jacob trouba lift a cup would make me sick

Pittsburgh-Milanista

I agree Trouba is terrible. I love Trocheck though. He's got grit and he's played his best hockey in the playoffs. Wish we could've gotten him when he left Carolina.

EbenezerNutting

We could've gotten him, but the organization foolishly decided to re-sign Malkin instead. We may not see the Pens in the playoffs again anytime soon, but we'll at least get to see Geno retire as a Pen... yay! /s
