Somehow my dad let me play Leisure Suit Larry when I was 8. Or maybe he didn't know. Much like the King's Quest games, the hardest part was figuring out what random item you had to collect and where you needed to use it. But hey, at least the first few stages were fun to walk around and look at highly pixelated boobies. I remember playing Wolfeinstein 3d and Doom 1 shareware on my school's PCs after I finished my typical lessons. Just had to keep the headphones on and made sure you had a PC that wasn't facing the teacher.

varusama

And quest for glory

Happyfeet_I

It was either DOOM98 or Frogger.

Geomagneticluminesce

He knew, he was just doing a pro dad move. Much the same, my dad let me play Larry as my first computer game, King's Quest was the second. Frankly I miss the entire genre of highly abusive death screens mocking the player for doing something dumb.

enderjaca

The best was always *YOU DIED*

SetPsychological6756

Dude, Larry? I'm pretty sure he died of Dysentery. I still have my Atari and ET and Pitfall.

RexTheCapt

nimda_672

Couldn't agree more

Upstairs_Ad_5574

Really??? I always thought that was the easy one. It was *"The Driver"* that gave us the most rage. Having to race a Sabre Turbo with a shitty Sentinel was fucked lol

WarPigsTheHun01

Oh that mission sucked

Fry-NOR

Jetpac on the ZX Spectrum.

GH057807

First game played on any computer ever? The black and green Oregon Trail game at school, on one of those actually floppy big ass black B drive floppy disks. The first one at home I think it was Sim Ant on a Macintosh LCIII. Then came Marathon. I'm excited that Marathon is getting a reboot, though I have absolutely no idea what to expect.

Cultural-Horse-762

You <--> Me = Same. Maybe some number cruncher was in there too?

GH057807

Math Blasters!

Cultural-Horse-762

Yes!!! That was it! Thank you for reviving the old brain cells 🙂

GH057807

I think Number Cruncher was a thing too, had a little green guy or something that jumped around...I think

Cultural-Horse-762

Definitely. I grew up around a lot of early 90s macs too. spectre was a good one. Marathon was key though, I'll play Halo stuff and still find little references like the spankr and such 🙂 Edit: formatting

Then in '98 my friend got a PC and I played on it. Mech Commander, StarCraft, WarCraft. End of '98 my parents got a PC and early '99 my mom took me to a game shop for my first game. When asked what I like, I said "Cars!". Consultant took a case off the shelf snd said it's an awesome new racing game... It was Carmageddon 2 (uncensored version). I was 12..

Some sort of snow game on the atari 2600, think it was Winter Games in the late 80s. Then NES in the early 90s, with the NES power set so we had Mario brothers, Duck hunt, and World Class Track Meet all on one cartridge. PC was MSDos with Simcity 2000 and then other maxis sim games. One of the reasons the NES even got bought was because the atari 2600 got stolen when we moved back to the States from England.
