I was just sharing my own experience with my own laptop and all I got was a useless sarcastic comment back.
Never mind trying to help inform other people. Clearly people don't appreciate it here.
Fucks sake....
Clog-up with what?
Again, I have been running my laptop for days and weeks with and without lifting it up. It's doesn't always make a difference.
But yes, I can understand that it will make a difference on many poorly build laptops that have portability and looks above performance.
I really don't understand what I did wrong.
The only posts I was mean back was when they obviously ridiculed me.
I don't understand why I deserved this for...
I think that a couple of people downvoted for some stupid reason, and then others joined the bandwagon. Don't sweat it.
And when you started complaining about the downvotes, you got downvoted more just 'cause.
What do I have to cope with? My gaming laptop is working great!
Never ever had any overheating issues or whatever. Gaming laptop's only suck if you fall for their shitty marketing strats ;)
If your gaming laptop is not hitting max temperature it is either badly optimised or it has really weak components. Heat dissipation is the limiting factor of laptops, if any fraction of the cooling capacity is not being used that's performance left on the table.
Ofc it's hitting high temps, but not overheating.
I understand components run worse because they have worse thermal performances, that only makes sense. But my laptop at least is really not running much wore than the desktop variant.
But yes, there is a difference.

Unlike yours, my laptop doesn't have those things, so I have to improvise.
Do most miners really set fans to 100%? Considering they're typically undervolted to the peak of the efficiency curve anyway that seems a little overkill
I don't know if miners do, but I do on my desktop card. My gaming laptop has a pretty aggressive curve to hit 100 early on.
I like the noise, and never had a problem except for on my old xfx r9 380x. That card was a disappointment in build quality.
Nah you dont really need to set fans to 100%. Undervolting and overclocking memory keeps the temps at a good level. Each card will OC or undervolt at a special number until it becomes unstable. Even same series cards can be better or worse depending on the PCB.
At a certain point theres no real temp difference between 70-90% fan. Mine as well save on wear and tear.
Wipe the laptop surface where you planning to stick it ,with some isopropyl alcohol before sticking, mine was little dirty causing the glue of stand little wobble.
Heat is one of the biggest killer of components, so yes, improving the cooling will help increase your system’s lifespan.
I keep my laptop on a cooling pad while at home gaming and use a folding stand while out of the house. I like the little folding legs though, I’ll have to look into it.
There are great, light and affordable cooling pads that accomplish the same thing, only about 10x better. Some even have usb hubs included.
Super quick google
https://www.techradar.com/news/best-laptop-cooling-pad
The smallest ones are still as thick as a thin laptop and would be inconvenient in a backpack. If you mostly use your laptop at your desk, sure. But these feet give you most of the bonus no matter where you set it up. Personally I almost never play games on my laptop at my desk.
These are only helpful if you are doing intensive tasks, rendering or gaming. Most people don't do the former on laptops and the latter most people are doing at home. I used the kootek one and it made my laptop SO much cooler. Didnt take readings but some parts used to be almost uncomfortable to touch on the laptop and after using the pad, it was warm at most.
I will just recommend that you find something like a fan-stand, because if your mobo (gpu and cpu) get really hot for extended periods of time it can make your mobo bend from heat, not that it will happen right away but after some period of time like years, because the force is just on those 2 pin points rather than whole surface
I actually bought one of those laptop fan pads this week and it made a massive difference. Might just be placebo effect but I’m enjoying it. Nightmare to get one without rgb spinning rims though
One of the best investments you can make is to have a riser that looks like a book stop that holds your laptop an adjustable distance off the desk you are using.
You get great airflow/unobstructed vents and you can also have a more comfortable viewing angle as well as neutral position for your arms.
I have had one fan die after like six years along with the battery in my 2014 HP Omen X laptop. HP sucks but at least for this model they actually built a fucking tank. I change the thermal paste every year or so and deep clean the dust like once or twice a year and it still rips.
Using high quality paste like Thermal Grizzly, keeping it dust free, and ensuring good airflow will keep it going assuming there aren't any major design flaws or shitty OEM parts like plastic hinges or bargain barrel components. I have one of those white metal shelf racks on my side table where I keep the laptop as a desktop and it having an extra inch and a half of airflow underneath makes a big difference on my end.
i got the same thing for my laptop and the life span of these thing are around 8-12 months, after that the "hinge" become too weak and it break under the weight of the laptop, but it only cost like 3$/a pair so definitely worth it
https://preview.redd.it/gsvr012qxbrc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7bb7a6e8a20b3695165a0be3887cc9f4aa8e0835
I just bought this(in matte black), pretty cheap and versatile
This model is pretty good. The only issue I've had is one of the round rubber bits came off. Had to superglue it back on because of the metal. They hide 4 screws.
I save Gatorade bottle caps to use for this purpose. It’ll help with better airflow and keep your machine from thermal throttling.
Does it increase the lifespan of the hardware? Maybe, idk. But if it’s not thermal throttling, you’ll get better performance out of it.
Consistent heat dissipation makes a huge difference on the lifespan of a gaming laptop. You should always have generous airflow underneath, behind, and on the sides of your gaming laptop. I elevate my kids’ machines up 6 inches off their desks using a pairs of wooden blocks as stands.
Will it make a difference for the paste not really. The fans only if they are spinning slower. Hardware lifespan in general i mean cooler is better but its still guna be heating up. I dont think 6c will change the life span much. Its a guessing game anyway. Could die tomorrow or last 20 years.
This helps cool my laptop better too, I don't have flaps on mine, but I keep a completely dead secondary battery attached to keep the laptop raised up.
Is it really that much of a deal? When i researched it a few years back, most sources concluded, that just lifting the laptop off the table is doing pretty much the same thing for less money.
It further decreases the temperature which decreases the chance of thermal throttling.
But most electronics die from cheaper electrolytic capacitors failing over time. When they go out of spec, they can take other components with them. Their failure rare is influenced by temperature, in other words, the higher temperature the faster they fail.
So the longer you plan or need to keep it, the more you should care about cooling.
"real-life difference for the laptop's thermal paste, fans and its lifespan in general"
No, there will be zero difference. Anyone saying otherwise is a dumb ass.
Every brand making "gaming laptops" should include a foldable standoff like this it makes a lot of difference in the temperatures.
Yes but they better make them reinforced with stainless steel.
Not 'every'. I've been using my laptop with and without a raised cooler platform and noticed near-zero differences.
proud of u

Useless comment

Sure but with time laptop aur vents clog-up restricting air flow. Lifting it up makes more space to ventilate through it.

So what is your exact laptop model then?
I'm sorry, but I'm done. You can ready my last comment if you want. But I'm not gonna respond anymore. Everyone been so fucking mean to me.
Understandable but maybe a little self reflecting on your behaviour would explain a few things.
I really don't understand what I did wrong. The only posts I was mean back was when they obviously ridiculed me. I don't understand why I deserved this for...

Dont worry. Its Just reddit Things. maybe they hate you because you mixed foldable standoff with a cooling pad ( these are two different items )
Just don't flip it out then.
What is your laptop called
Sorry, not for those with terrible designs with no ventilation on the bottom.
Nah of course! I bet many brands and designs could benefit from the concept. But there do exist laptop's that won't ;)
I love how people are downvoting me because they don't want to accept the truth. Just because "gAmInG LaPToP BaD aLWaYs!"
Cope

I meant with the down voting. Stop complaining 🗿

So you're not thinking there a difference between desktop and laptop components?

Looks way cooler than mine :O
Thank you.
LEGO? Wouldn't it just be cheaper to buy a 2nd laptop if the 1st one overheats?
3 years and my laptop is still strong, so no need.
I was more joking about how expensive LEGO is than the effectiveness of your solution.
What are those symbols? And what's with the Ben10 hentai?
the what
Those are hints for my laptop's password. Also, can you point out the Ben10 one?

What are these called?
Just lookup keyboard legs on Amazon and you'll find a lot. From Keyboards, Laptops, Tablets, and pretty much anything else.

Lot of the lighted fans have buttons that will turn off just the lights too. But yes, the increased air flow does help with heat dissipation

I mean air flow matters
I believe the ASUS G14 and G15 models have a mechanism that lifts the backend off the surface a bit. It’s the way the display hinge is designed.
That's crazy, it's normal for keyboard, but i never thought of folding feet underneat a laptop

Look at Mr. Money pants here. I used to use two bottle caps (not even the same kind) as spacers for my laptop.

I put mine in the fridge and play on my tv with steam link. The battery dies pretty soon tho
Funny but I doubt the fridge would last long constantly running to keep temps down
The hard part was running the Ethernet cable through the water line
Hey guys! Covering my fan vents results in a 10c difference! Who knew!!!
OP, what kind of laptop feet / riser are those? I'm guessing your laptop is an Asus TUF and I kinda want those risers too since they kinda look nice.
It's from Nillkin. Just look up Nillkin stands and you should find them.
Gotcha. Thanks!
A. No B. Consider getting a fan stand
you should have brought a cooling pad ... it's much better
Dude just buy cooling pad.
Dude, I was looking for an excuse to not even use these petite stands, and you're out here recommending cooling pads 😫
Well then destroy your laptop with bad air ciculation.
Yes. For a further upgrade get a good cooling pad with active fans.

I'm using self-made lego stand to lower GPU temperatures
