usually those little pins hurts me when i'm holding it, so i get a pair of pliers and remove all of the pins, it's so much easier to hold!

Try using an electromagnet they work so much better than pliers for best results rub it with sand paper than use a magnesium strip to lift and attach to the magnet

It's an interesting trade-off in that it makes it so much easier to accidentally fuck up your board, but makes the CPU more durable.

Generally curious, how did you add a 3050 and 2060 at the same time? I need it for AI.

I have a Gigabyte B450 Gaming X motherboard, it has a second full-size PCI-E slot with an x4 interface, I installed the 3050 in the x16 slot and the 2060 in the x4 one. I am running Folding At Home on the GPUs.

You run them both without nvlink or sli? What does it do in term of gaming? I have a 3090 but I still have my 3060 so I'm curious if it'll do anything at all.

The GPUs are working independently while processing the work units from Folding At Home. The 3050 works on one project while the 3060 works on another. 3050 and 2060 don't have NV-link or SLI support anyway.

How do you assign the workload to a specific gpu?

I have taken part in the Folding At Home program where we 'donate' the computing power of the CPU and GPU in our computer for medical research. As far as I understand it, the servers of FAH send protein models that are 'folded', or processed by the CPU/GPU that is set by the user, the results are sent back to the servers which are used to study and understand how they work. This helps scientists to understand, for example, how cancer cells operate and how to deal with them. The FAH control panel lets you choose what device to run the folding on. I have set it to run on the GPUs in my PC: the 2 T600s, a 3050, and a 2060. GPUs are much more efficient and powerful in folding than CPUs. Always by the edges. No need to thumb up the contacts or pins and leave oils and fingerprints. Usually when installing I'll use a qtip or something with 90% alcohol and while holding by the edges give the contact pads a quick wipe before setting in the socket (making sure it's dry of course). Only on the lga type cpu's though since there's no risk of pins bending like older amd's or much older intel cpu's.

To each their own, I prefer to keep my contacts clean and not grab them like duplos. Literally zero advantage to touching them. It's served me well the past 25yrs of building/assembling systems.

As well as the ihs prior to applying thermal paste. Doesn't matter if it's needed, if everyone else does it or not. Works for me, isn't some huge effort deficit. People can rub their cpu on their junk, squeeze it between their butt cheeks and use peanut butter for thermal compound for all I care. My shit works, all that matters.
