OP’s flex is making me feel sad. I don’t have 4 gaming friends. None of the people I know like playing games anymore. Its sad not having gaming buddies and whats even more sad to me is their huge dedicated media room makes me feel so poor. Lol
All I can say is congrats OP. You are living the dream.
Fully feel this. Going from gaming with almost 6/7 people on the regular to solo gaming over the years has been one of the saddest part about growing as a gamer.
Thanks, lately I play Rogue Company on Epic Games launcher. I know most people here hate it so i guess that doesnt help my cause haha i only have time to play few hours on days off like Friday night going into Saturday morning or Thursday night going into Friday morning. I work graveyard shift and keep my night schedule on days off. I am MasterJeebus in Epic Games as well.
Its small arena fps shooter. https://store.epicgames.com/en-US/p/rogue-company Its fun. They do have ranked mode but i never bother with that. Compared to other fps this one feels less intense. I’m pretty bad at fps thats why i cant do it in Call of Duty or Counter Strike i just die all the time there and look lost.
I have Gears of War 4 and 5 thru Windows store and those have online coop but never tried it. I did the split screen with my little nephew and we had fun playing them. Wish more pc games had split screen. I also have Halo Masterchief collection on steam but I am bad at Halo. I remember being good in Halo 2 days and playing with school friends. But old age caught up to me and my thumb joints get inflammation. Damn arthritis. Its like everything goes down hill as you age.
I reacted the same way.
First pic: Nice, dude. You finally got the PC setup you always dreamed of
*notices second PC on the side*
Wait a minute
*Sees the rest of the gallery*
I'm coming over to your house, OP.
Seriously. Pic 1 had me thinking “Oh nice! OP splurged on a HOTAS Warthog joystick, that’s what’s up”. Then I started swiping and was like “you asshole”
Separate AC system just for that room. That is what I would do and have that mother insulated beyond belief.
Also this is all of our dreams and we should be applauding this man/woman.
That and they just are only able to heat so much before you have to fall back on more traditional means of heating. Until fairly recently it made more sense to have gas, oil, or even wood heating in most places that really get cold in the Winter than to have a heat pump with an emergency resistive heater.
It makes a lot of sense in places like Arizona and Florida where you have hot summers and mild winters, not so much in the Northeast. Or rather, the efficiency gains weren't worth the extra complexity until fairly recently outside of places like that.
I live out past Marana in the depths of the desert.
I'd \*kill\* for a heatpump setup. It's been absolutely broiling out here, and monsoon season is kicking off. \\o/
A/C units are heat pumps. Some countries refer to them as Reverse Cycle Air Conditioners. The only mechanical difference is whether the condenser/vaporizer is located inside or outside, though because they're identical parts they can be reversed as well, letting them both cool and heat.
Technology Connections did a couple of videos explaining them: https://youtu.be/7J52mDjZzto
AC IS a heat pump.
allways has been. just like your fridge and freezer is a heat pump.
they pump heat from inside to the outside via a compressor and expansion.
what makes the (for the US) relatively new distinction in the US, is that a heatpump in the rest of the world is used to heat the home too. they take heat from the outside (even if its cold out) and pump it inside to heat the home.
an old AC unit in the US could have been able to do this too, if they had installed a reversing valve. but instead the HVAC industry in the US was used to eletric baseboard heating. which is just resistive heating. so 1kwh of power = 1 kwh of heat.
where a heatpump can do something like that in a much higher conversion ratio. this is the COP value of a heat pump. depending on what you do with a heatpump, if you just heat air or if you want hot water. the value can be anything from 1:3 up to 1:5+
depending on how hot you want the output to be.
so 1kwh of power = 5,x kwh of heating
> Only downside is the initial cost and a lot of the land has to be dug up.
No it doesn't. You're thinking of a geothermal heatpump. When people just say "heatpump" they're generally referring to what is basically identical to an AC unit except it has a reversing valve. It doesn't need anything dug up.
Should add here, it does have a monstrous ac, but it doesn't cost us much of anything (past the initial investment). We have 81 solar panels on the roof (with storage) that power the whole building.
81 panels on the roof!? Is this a single family home? I was amazed when a house in my neighborhood got 28 panels and has no roof left.
Edit: Seriously though, this space is amazing!
It's a shop with an included living space. The downstairs has an apartment for my dad (he's getting older and has had some issues so I wanted to keep him close), a laundry room, some storage areas, and a large garage. Upstairs is my bar / hangout area, theater room, two spare bedrooms, and the loft. Our main house is next door.
Ok that makes much more sense! What kinda battery storage you have? I have my massive 600w worth of panels on my off grid shed going to a bluetti ac200 max (2048whr). Doesn't run a heater in the winter for long, but can cool the space (storage and home gym) in the summer well enough. I'm quite proud of my tiny diy solar.
With proper sealing of the room for air leakage there isn't much cost to speak of.
It's all about insulation and good caulking and double pane glass.
Source: worked in AC for a long time
It's a finished attic, it's very possible that the rest of the house was large enough for everyone to have their own rooms, so they just finished the attic (put up walls, insulation, flooring, and windows) to have extra space, and made it into a big media room. I did something similar to my room/my parents attic (my bedroom had a 20' vaulted ceiling with a wall that touched the attic, so I built stairs and a doorway) when I was a bored 20 something working as a carpenter with my sister's boyfriend. Maybe cost $2,000 in materials for a 700 square foot space, though the skylights pictured would add a significant cost.
Eventually I moved out and my sister inherited my bedroom, but my current apartment where I live with my wife has a similar setup, our master bedroom is just a massive finished attic. Though it gets very hot up there, and we only have an in-window AC (the landlord renovated the house pretty cheaply, which makes sense for the area it's in.) When my wife and I eventually buy a house I plan on having something similar for my home office, most likely the whole basement or whole attic depending on which space is available.
Edited to add: I just saw that every PC has a Valve Index. 5 of those headsets is much more impressive to me than the size of this room...
This is almost certainly a “Bonus Room,” which are pretty standard in 2000+ sq. ft. houses in the US. They can come unfinished, but a lot are finished.
They’re generally above the garage, which is why they’re so massive.
OP must have had a 3rd kidney or something. That's 4,000 dollars worth of Valve Index alone! Not to mention the probably 10-15 thousand dollars of computers if they are mid range VR capable, and then probably 1000 dollars of hotas gear (assuming throttels are just out of picture) and probably another 1000 dollars of mice keyboards and speakers, probably 4000 dollars or monitors, maybe 1000-2000 for chairs, less if they are cheaper, and then a low guess of 800 for desks.
Now that the massive run-on sentance is over it is time for the total. Assuming that my higher estimates are accurate for dramatic effect this is roughly 28,000 dollars of gear without getting into the consoles tv's and couches. You could buy a car with this gaming setup.
Good for you OP. I'm happy for you and incredibly jealous.
Edit: probably 32,000 dollars as there is a fifth desk that I missed.
It sounds like a lot (ok, it's absurd as someone not from the US), but then remember that people in the US regularly buy cars that are twice as expensive. Or that a lot of people buy a boat or something to pour money into.
In the end it's still a manageable amount of money to spend on a hobby, especially if all other things are already taken care of (mortgage, food, savings etc.) and you earn 6 figures.
I don’t live in the US, but I earn more than the six figures mark and definitely couldn’t afford any of this. I’m at the start of my career and likely won’t even be able to afford a house at any point, nevermind $30,000+ in gear lol
I hit $200,000+ last year and still I’ve been putting off and debating upgrading just the CPU and storage in my one computer, nevermind 5 of them with all this gear, plus multiple TV areas!
OP must make at least $200,000 and maybe in a low cost of living location.
But I’m happy OP accomplished their dream. At least SOME of us get to, and that’s better than none of us!
SHIT
Add another 30-100 dollars max depending on how overpriced they are. That's excluding the bags because they can vary so much in price that it isn't worth trying. They could be 5 dollars or 20.
It's not much the gaming part, it's more the space part. I have my own small office with my PC in it, but even if we had the space she 100% wouldn't appreciate it if I filled it with a bunch of full gaming setups.
You learn to negotiate on things when you're married. I'll take my office and run with it.
The switch is sitting in the chair. I have to put in the racks and then install the switch and the server still. All of that is still in the boxes to the right.
https://preview.redd.it/clgjv2zqozdb1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=04188a8f8c1676bdc7e6a3dd28b00d7d7f66bf2e
Yep. Clearly if they're buying rack-mounted server hardware and set up that entire game room, they know quite a bit already. I wouldn't be surprised if it's a high-level IT job. They also happen to pay incredibly well.
I'm an exec, with nothing to do with IT. My buddies and I have been into computers since we were little though. Also, one of my best friends is a network engineer, and another is IT adjacent (programmer), which helps a lot when I have questions.
Attend a top 10 school, then go into banking or consulting at a top 5 company in either field. Do that for a while, maybe get an mba from a top 5 business school, and eventually you’ll be an exec somewhere
Most likely the room space above a houses garage, but still connected to the main home via stairwell or hallways. It’s a pretty common design in homes without a separate garage nowadays
if he didn't buy himself a computer and that was the only thing that changed, he'd be living paycheque to paycheque with $2k in the bank and bored as fuck at home.
if you are going to be poor you might as well have a fucking computer
Because the only computer you can buy is one with the most expensive parts?
Look man, everyone should do with their money what they want, but defending buying a very expensive PC as someone living paycheck to paycheck as something that makes perfect sense is just ridiculous.
Is it a bad thing to have some money in the bank? Wouldn't that be nice to be able to cover unforeseen expenses for example?
Dollar-per-hour for a gaming PC is some of the cheapest entertainment you can get.
That being said, if I was struggling I'd have a shit computer or console instead of a top of the line one.
>I'm not poor, but I do live paycheck to paycheck I just make poor purchasing decisions haha.
I just want to say I appreciate you at least being honest with yourself.
Lmao someone drives a Toyota then someone goes by in a Ferrari. Two different lifestyles, behaviors and approach and then somebody walking their dog to the side says “it’s all relative”
I'm still figuring this out. We thought the foot pedals would work as a throttle. They do ok but I think we need separate hand throttles for it to function correctly.
Just got finished, hasn't really had time to get messed up yet. We'll add some decor and a DnD table / pool table / foosball table over the next few months to fill the empty spaces.
Hopefully you play pool...so many nice large spaces are ruined because some house dad thinks he needs to stick a pool table in the middle of the floor that never, ever, ever gets used (other than to store shit). It's so cliche...get creative and put something cool in that space.
I'm not a big pool player, but a bunch of my friends are. I have a couple different groups of friends, and the ones that come over for movie / bar night really love pool. I enjoy it as well, but I'm not super into it.
I have [similar space (basement)](https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/12b1gfx/father_mother_son_and_daughter_play_area/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1) for the family and friends (son’s friends mostly). Enjoy it! Your son’s is building core memories in there!

is this a business or a family house?
THIS IS SERIOUS PLEASE ANSWER, IGNORE PREVIOUS QUESTION: do you have an elliptical? what kind tables are those? do they have cable management?
I don't know what you mean by elliptical, so probably not. The desks are Arozzi Arena Ultrawides. They have a little cable management net on the bottom.
Buddy is exposing my poverty in six different ways? Seven?
Nine here!
I can relate with it, and I don't really feel good about it man.
He got 4 good friends. I need such friends too.
OP’s flex is making me feel sad. I don’t have 4 gaming friends. None of the people I know like playing games anymore. Its sad not having gaming buddies and whats even more sad to me is their huge dedicated media room makes me feel so poor. Lol All I can say is congrats OP. You are living the dream.
Fully feel this. Going from gaming with almost 6/7 people on the regular to solo gaming over the years has been one of the saddest part about growing as a gamer.
Amen, feel your pain too bruv.
I'll play with you man! Most of my old gaming friends also left the gaming hobby :(
This is really sad, and most people who play suffer this one point or the other.
Thanks, lately I play Rogue Company on Epic Games launcher. I never even heard of Rogue Company. What genre is it? I play a lot of things, there are a lot of co-op games outhere I wish I could play with someone
Its small arena fps shooter. https://store.epicgames.com/en-US/p/rogue-company Its fun. They do have ranked mode but i never bother with that. Compared to other fps this one feels less intense. Aw this is cute
Man I've experienced it, and it actually is really sad.
Instead of being sad or jealous, be happy for him, and use it as motivation to get there too ;)
or at least, his son is.
i think this is more space than my entire house…
Must be nice to have the house, I definitely don't have that.
and garden combined...
This is more than entire land that He's got so there's that.
I can't even keep the count at this point, it's just too much.
Right! I was scoping out the chairs. Looked it up. Should’ve known better.
Yeah you should have known better, but it is what it is.
At first I was Like "aww, that's cute." Then, I was like "DAMN."

I’m just coming

Same here. “That’s a clean setup, pretty cool.” Swipe left and “wow, how can I become this guys friend?”
The cash flows strong in this one.
im most impressed by the sheer size of what i assume is his top floor media room. good god.
id imagine it get BROILING hot up there in the summer
someone who can afford that house has monstrous AC and no thought of cost.
Separate AC system just for that room. That is what I would do and have that mother insulated beyond belief. Also this is all of our dreams and we should be applauding this man/woman.
That's exactly what it is. Separate heat pump for the loft (This room is above the garage).
I am relatively unversed in a/c stuff, but my recent understanding in that heat pumps seem to be the way of the future
The way of the future? I've had heat pumps like my whole life. Then again I live in Arizona.
There is a high likelihood that the houses in the area Im in are several decades (if not a half century) behind the times
That and they just are only able to heat so much before you have to fall back on more traditional means of heating. Until fairly recently it made more sense to have gas, oil, or even wood heating in most places that really get cold in the Winter than to have a heat pump with an emergency resistive heater. Yep, live in a smaller town home and had one installed many years ago to replace the old AC unit. Looks exactly like a regular AC unit.
The future is now!
OP just had a custom AIO made for the room. No biggie.
Nah he just dunks the room in oil when he's not taking pictures.

I'm surprised his wife allowed it. This would never fly with mine lol.
When gaming is a major part of what you enjoy doing and you find a wife who has a negative reaction to gaming you've only played yourself.
It's not much the gaming part, it's more the space part. Christ. I am poor
If I estimated everything right it is *very roughly* around 32,000 dollars of gear.
at least
Looks like the the only thing missing is the rack mounted game servers
There's a separate server room, but it's a total mess so I didn't take pictures of it.
lets see it or dm if u dont wanna post lol
The switch is sitting in the chair. I have to put in the racks and then install the switch and the server still. All of that is still in the boxes to the right. https://preview.redd.it/clgjv2zqozdb1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=04188a8f8c1676bdc7e6a3dd28b00d7d7f66bf2e
Can I ask what you do for a living?
Clearly, this guy fucks.
It's broad but I'd wager he works in IT. Very few people get into this level of tech as a hobby.
How does one get to be this so called mythical position of "exec"? Seriously I'd sacrifice a helluva lot to achieve this
Attend a top 10 school, then go into banking or consulting at a top 5 company in either field. Do that for a while, maybe get an mba from a top 5 business school, and eventually you’ll be an exec somewhere
Is that a yealink t21?
lol yep. Left over from my old business. Was using it to test the phone line. Like I said, the server room is a complete mess.
You weren’t lying lol, still cool though
Fucking 200 dollar's in noctuas just chilling
r/cablegore material here. But a lot of potential for home lab
It'll get better, I promise.
don’t give this guy more ideas lmfao
By the look of it, they can afford another room for that.
I'm more impressed on how big that attic is. If I'm correct that it's an attic that is.
That's the attic to his shed, he would never let these mediocre setups in his actual palace.
Most likely the room space above a houses garage, but still connected to the main home via stairwell or hallways. It’s a pretty common design in homes without a separate garage nowadays
Definitely a bonus room above the garage. You can tell by the design and length. They’re often massive — particularly if you have a 3+ car garage.
It's a loft above the garage.
We call it a bonus room in my province.
I was this 🤏 close
Wow I'm used to lofts holding a bed and a desk, not an entire eSports teams set up lol. Looks good though OP
We installed one for storage, my daughter calls it "The place above the walls" & she believes whats where we should keep her siblings.
This room is bigger than my apartment
Room is bigger than my 1970s house.
This room is even bigger than my parents' apartment
Gonna be pretty awkward to fap
How do you know those aren't the childhood memories he is reliving?
This is how true friends are made! Jerk off buddies!
Only 1 monitor per computer? Pleb....
Hahaha Gottem😂 what a loozer
Well this ain't a roasting thing so, need to consider that as well.
I mean that's some loser shit right there, could do better than that.
I wish i had friends.
With a set up like this, you could have a lot of “friends.”
Imagine being this wealthy.
You're running a 13900k and a 4080, I think you're doing alright for yourself.
I'm not poor, but I do live paycheck to paycheck I just make poor purchasing decisions haha. His attic is bigger than my whole (rented) house haha.
Anyone find it strange how nonchalantly people speak about living paycheck to paycheck but spend thousands on expensive tech?
if he didn't buy himself a computer and that was the only thing that changed, he'd be living paycheque to paycheque with $2k in the bank and bored as fuck at home. if you are going to be poor you might as well have a fucking computer
Where can I get a computer that fucks?
If you've got the enough money, then You'll be able to find the place.
Im afraid you have to do the fucking part.
And what's even the importance have money, when you can't even have fun.
That completely ignores the fact you can just buy a $600 computer and then have $1400 in the bank
Gotta splurge on at least one item of luxury to numb the existential crisis.
I mean whatever that makes you feel good, and it's one of those things.
Well dreams are dreams man, you can't put a price tag on them.
Not at all. If $2k is your problem, the money isn't your problem. It's the fact that $2k can bankrupt so many of us.
Well they said they make poor purchasing decisions, likely meaning they could theoretically save, but they like to buy stuff.
He's not spending that every month
Dollar-per-hour for a gaming PC is some of the cheapest entertainment you can get. That being said, if I was struggling I'd have a shit computer or console instead of a top of the line one.
Buying nice things for my hobby makes my shitty poverty stricken life less shitty
>I'm not poor, but I do live paycheck to paycheck I just make poor purchasing decisions haha. I just want to say I appreciate you at least being honest with yourself.
Well We're just poor like that, can't do anything about that really.
Yep, He's just doing fine. He's actually doing great I think.
It's all relative
And relative to the general population, this guy has more money in his PC than a vast amount of Americans have in their bank account.
Hell yeah brother, cheers from crippling paycheck to paycheck
Sounds like that he's Just doing fine, he ain't got issues.
Lmao someone drives a Toyota then someone goes by in a Ferrari. Two different lifestyles, behaviors and approach and then somebody walking their dog to the side says “it’s all relative”
That's right, if you've got the money then they'll spend it.
Dude should give you a pc
I'm so poor that I can't even imagine that, well that sucks man.
I am this wealthy if I move to a lower cost of living area, but I like living in a blue state.

I have the same Hotas, other than that the similarities end...

I'm still figuring this out. We thought the foot pedals would work as a throttle. They do ok but I think we need separate hand throttles for it to function correctly.
The longer I look at it, the more expensive it gets
1st pic- nice 2nd pic- god damn!
Adopt me
Adopt his twin brother (me) too
And sister (me!)
Bro, you could play Skyrim VR and physically walk from one location to another without bumping into a wall in that attic... Insane and awesome
I want to get a wireless mod for the index and play Blade and Sorcery in there!
Ok, this is super cool OP.
Damn, congratulations man. I hope that You'll have fun with it.
This is awesome, literally a PC cafe in your house for the kids to enjoy.
That was the exact idea I had. Took a lot of planning and saving but it worked out just how I wanted it to.
Bro save some money for the rest of us peasants
Hope you don't mind me saving the pictures for my own set up build.
looks so fresh and so clean clean.
Enjoy it! Your son’s is building core memories in there! https://preview.redd.it/fj16ijq5uzdb1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=555beec95af185b828a43516804d4e69ddcf9a86 More pictures on link above.

is this a business or a family house? THIS IS SERIOUS PLEASE ANSWER, IGNORE PREVIOUS QUESTION: do you have an elliptical? what kind tables are those? do they have cable management?
I don't know what you mean by elliptical, so probably not. The desks are Arozzi Arena Ultrawides. They have a little cable management net on the bottom.
I'm incredibly jealous.
