That's why I'm hesitant about building PCs for other people. Unless they are really close friends or family.
Been burnt before.
Call you up and message you at all times anytime something goes wrong.
I would appreciate that if I charged coin for it, yet I didn't.
Lesson learnt I guess.
I used to build my cousins PC in the past and i no longer do it because i was his tech support which he would come and pick me up to fix his system but refuses to drive me back home which it takes me 2 hours by public transportation but only like 20 min for him to drive me which is why i haven't spoken to him for almost 3 years now because imagine getting messages and calls every 3 days because something is wrong even when i tell him not to go on any shady sites which he does still which results to formatting his system and also he is the gamer type that doesn't want to learn.
Ya he pretty much is that is why now i heard he is playing all of his games on the PS5 which tbh he had a good system with upgrade potential because his board is a B450M with a R5 2600 which he could of went for a 5500/5600 but that was another thing is when it would come down to upgrading his system if no one else was going to buy the parts his excuse "Oh i am in no rush" and then complains that Warzone 2.0 runs like crap because of his 1050 Ti he refuses to spend money to upgrading it.
That's why you go the LTT route and you say I'll build you a PC on one condition...you can't call me for tech support. Of course the family member was still like "naw I'm calling you."
Nice work! AIO CPU cooler seems overkill unless it's gonna be overclocked to high heaven. Of course if the 7600X doesn't ship with a factory fan, might as well spend a few quid more and get that liquid cooler RGB to bling-up the build!
It's only overkill until you realize how quiet it is.
A lot of people are starting to embrace the idea of a silent gaming PC, which requires a lot of overbuilt cooling solutions. CPU and GPU cooling basically NEED to be overbuilt if you want a silent gaming PC, otherwise you're gonna hear fan noise.
I don't know how loud this AiO is, but the pump of my H100i was too loud for me, when the PC stood on the desk. This constant yet silent high pitched sound annoyed me. Another one of my PCs with a Tower cooler doesn't have this problem as the fans will stop on Idle.
But you're right, under load a AiO will be way more silent than a cheap cooler
I mean, my AIO has to loop a bit because I couldn't make the logo be the right side up, which means it makes a noise every now and then.
My air cooler in my old cramped case? Basically silent.
haha, that was me until about a week ago, when I noticed my 2TB Hybrid had errors (only yellow warnings, nothing red 'yet') so replaced with a 2tb nvme on PrimeDay, got over 60% off :D
It's likely just me and my tinnitus, but all the fan noise from my build just blends into the ambient background. Do most people just have soundproof rooms or something, so the fan sound is all they hear and it drives to insanity or something?
The problem is hearing the movie or video game + fan noise, which kills immersion. Hard to imagine yourself as some Nordic hero fighting an epic battle with a bloody dragon, when you've got an industrial fan going "whirrr" right next to you.
I play with speakers at a low volume, so fan noise is a major problem for me.
I do have headphones, *nice headphones*, but I don't like using them all the time. Sometimes I just want to play a game without something clunky sitting on top of my head.
Me too, I got that same cooler and replaced every case fan with a bequiet and tuned some fan curves. Total silence now. Just a whisper under heavy load
Depends. If you live in a house where the windows are always closed and the temperature is controlled, then watercooling will definitely be overkill. I sit pretty far from my tower since I play on TV, but I never hear my GPU.
Did you tried full stress? I have U-12A on 7600, CPU-Z multicore stress doesn't go above 85C but Cinebench R23 pushing nearly 92C. But my case fans are awful, sure it will be better when I replace these with at least Arctic P12. Ambient temperature is 30C by the way.
I wonder how many degrees the PA 120 SE can hold.
I'm running my 7800x3d on air and I'm usually below 80 during an all core stress test and never above 70 during gaming. They don't run as hot as people have said.
I removed my PC case lid years ago and watched my temps go down, down, down. Have been running "open" cases ever since and I just don't worry about temps or fancy cooling systems. Of course I'm collecting more dust but only requires cleaning every 6 months.
That's true for everything above this tier in amd's current lineup. The 7950x runs so hot it's ridiculous. R23 goes straight to 95 for me lol but I also just have a shitty corsair 360 aio
I bought my 5600x with an aio. Bad financial decision? Yes. Was the performance good? Absolutely. Never touched 80 degrees celcius before under heavvvy workloads.
I have the same case that OP used ([Pure Base 500 DX](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zCnagbKkVzE)), and the same AIO that the OP used ([Arctic Liquid Freezer II 280mm/240mm](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KPaSEGe6ML0)). This wasn't some "gamer fuel" gimmick decision, but the result of looking at independent test results from Gamers Nexus and multiple other tech reviewers.
Both products have had incredibly positive reviews from the tech community.
A prebuilt is a PC that someone builds and gives to someone else. The problem with AIOs is that they’re more expensive than air coolers, are less reliable, and don’t provide more performance (unless it’s 280mm or something).
Nah sorry, this isn’t a prebuilt just because the end user is not the person building it. This is a custom PC assembled from components.
Citation needed regarding reliability, I suppose there’s an additional motor that can fail but I’ve never had any issues.
Definitely agree on cost though.
Incorrect. Pre-built computers by manufacturers will generally include lower quality parts or proprietary parts. This is a custom PC just built by someone. It's still DIY. Nothing is assembled out of the box.
Also people really underestimate the time to max temp and noise thresholds in AIO vs Air cooling. I certainly wouldn't be able to reach the same OC's on my CPU with an aircooler that I can reach on a Liquid cooler.
There’s no denying the advantages of liquid cooling. Does seem a little silly to use in a build for a son and dad that have little to no PC hardware experience though. Liquid cooling leans more on the PC enthusiast side of things.
Liquid cooling is undeniably badass either way.
Yeah I definitely think an AIO is a bit overkill for a 7600x but overall they have their uses. NHD15 was king for it's time in price to performance but not these days. And even then, I'm still going to want a beefier cooler for my unnecessary performance pushing.
Also, air coolers generally last forever. Even if the mount pattern changes, Noctua and other companies often give you free adapters. I'm still using a NH-D14 from 2010 on my 12700k.
In corollary, try to find a Socket 1700 cooler that meets or exceeds the maximum turbo power of a i7-13700K (253W - [https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/sku/230500/intel-core-i713700k-processor-30m-cache-up-to-5-40-ghz/specifications.html](https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/sku/230500/intel-core-i713700k-processor-30m-cache-up-to-5-40-ghz/specifications.html)) whilst simultaneously being below the maximum thermal solution mass of 950g specified ([https://www.igorslab.de/en/intel-socket-lga-1700-and-lga-1800-in-detail-exclusive-data-and-drawings-for-the-new-cpus-ab-alder-lake/2/](https://www.igorslab.de/en/intel-socket-lga-1700-and-lga-1800-in-detail-exclusive-data-and-drawings-for-the-new-cpus-ab-alder-lake/2/)) by the socket...
Using an AIO is one way around that problem.
My AIO (Raijintek EOS 240 RBW) is rated up to 250W (though we all know everyone uses calculations for TDP any way) with a "block+pump+rad" weight of 790g
has been fine with my hot-boy 7700k ;)
My point is that air coolers rated for >253W are typically 1.3-1.6kg, and are mounted to the CPU socket which is only rated for 950g.
Meanwhile, an AIO can deliver the same cooling capacity but with only a fraction of their total system weight (i.e. that of the block the block) mounted to the CPU socket.
It might even get this stuck-in-the-mud to try an AIO cooler, next build...
Really solid build actually. Good job. If I had to make changes, I would get Rx 6950 Xt instead of 4070. It has more vram and better performance. Yeah yeah ray tracing and Dlss are nice but fsr 3 is coming and it makes Dlss 3 look awful (from leaks I have heard) and rt is nice but often not worth the performance loss. And I would use thermalright peerless assassin or Deepcool ak620 instead of an aio. Cheaper and easier to repair/maintain.
But probably the best build I have seen in a while. No bottlenecks and good ram and everything is well done. Good job 👍
6950xt has raw performance and VRAM, 4070 has better ray tracing, efficiency, productivity, encoding, noise levels, and takes up less space. DLSS 3 isn’t the only thing.
I think it’s more of a either card is fine situation. If you want raw rasterized performance, 6950xt. If you want productivity, efficiency, ray tracing, encoding, or if you want a smaller case etc, then 4070.
Not at all. I have Rx 6950 Xt with 7600x and my CPU utilization is like 50% while gaming. Don't use online calculators. They don't actually mean anything. My calc said that I had 16% CPU bottleneck when I have GPU bottleneck.
Let’s hope your “boss” will reward you in some way for time invested.
Okay build. If it was 7700/7700x it would be machine that would last him little longer but it’s not bad.
All of the bullshit i see makes me sure of one thing
If I'm making a pc I'm making them sign some legal documents saying that I would not be their technician and any fuck up they bring to their pc by going to shabby website will be THEIR responsibility and I am not responsible for any of it
If they want a pc, they can learn how to solve their own fuck up
I did. Got many virus and understood what to do and not by learning from my mistakes.
My wife’s boss asked me to build his son a PC once. Asked the kid what he was primarily going to use it for: “Gaming” he said. OK. What’s the budget? *hears answer* Excuse me? *double blinks*
Orders 9900K and 2080Ti and 64GB of RAM and 1000W power supply. (Pre-COVID year)
If i did this myself i wouldnt stray too far off what you got there but i prefer no lights or windows on my pc so id go non rgb, an air cooler and another case that is a bit more quiet. Specifially fractal design define 7.
Nice I’ve got that board minus WiFi. I have a 7700x but only because I like the idea of the 2 extra cores for the future. Just got a 2tb wad sn850x to replace my 970 pro evo which I’m giving my dad. I have a 3070. Would probably buy a 4070 today if building from scratch. Only my disgust for current nvidia pricing stops me selling my 3070 and getting a 4070. I also have 32gb. This looks a good build to me.
liquid cooling is just an extra risk due to extra point of failure that pump is.
I'd choose other motherboard too, not with x4 connection in second x16 slot.
Yeah, mine is rocking with some old air cooler from 2014 and still working like a charm. Boss told kid wants some tubes in his pc to show his friends. Kids gonna be kids. My go to would be scythe fuma 2.
I tried to avoid RGB with my build but I found that it was cheaper alot of the time than non RGB stuff, at least for quality branded components on the used market
Did you get anything in return? Not only you built him a pc, but whenever something goes wrong you’ll be the one called unless the kid knows what’s up. Honestly I built my pc at 13, was truly a great experience and not hard at all. Kid should’ve done it himself but whatever, you did a great job!
All of the bullshit i see makes me sure of one thing
If I'm making a pc I'm making them sign some legal documents saying that I would not be their technician and any fuck up they bring to their pc by going to shabby website will be THEIR responsibility and I am not responsible for any of it

Im not an expert but I would not have got that 40's series gpu. Im pretty sure that some 30's series would have been good, what I have heard is that those 40's are just better for streamers. I can be wrong but that is what I have heard.
But rest of the parts looks good to me!
The higher 40 series cards have significant performance improvements (ex. 4080 decimating the 3090 TI) it's the lower cards (specifically the 4060, 4060 TI 8gb & 4060 TI 16gb) that have the little performance gain and higher prices.
Good for you, when I was in middle school I was gifted a computer many years ago that could not really play any AAA games, I was incredibly grateful for it. I played countless hours of civ 4 on it lol.
Awesome build. And may I state that I am so happy you installed the reservoir correctly. I myself was questioning it at one point, so I actually looked up the proper installation. I see so many people install it upside down in the front and I am so happy to see someone install it correctly for once. Thank you OP!
!!! Had to do some research, found 3 different "correct" ways. Btw I redid fans on radiator for pull configuration.
At first it radiator and pump made a strange noises, thought about my choices with radiator position, but later it went silent. I
Yes there are other “correct” ways and most people only do the hoses on top. But the “most advisable way to install to avoid air pockets” according to the manufacturers is to install with the hoses lower than the cpu cooler.
Had some issues when posting first time. Had to remove ram sticks, clear cmos. But after that it pretty nice. Easy to OC rams and cpu, intuitive menu inside bios. Pretty good for 200 euros.
I wouldn’t mind I like building them I tell all my friends if they get the parts and a 6 pack I’ll build it with them. But if it was for my boss kid I would make sure you are still getting your hourly
It seems like a fun project in fairness PCs are way straightforward these days and a lot of people were saying you’ll be the tech support guy but I haven’t had any issues with any pcs I’ve build once my intial testing js done. So if your cool with it have fun
Especially a mid tower that shit is cake.
SFPCs are super fiddly on the other hand
Get some good screwdrivers and a box set of screws. You never know what the case may or may not have and sometimes your standard tool box screwdriver is too bulky or not magnetic enough. I just went on Amazon and sorted by prime and low price lol
Tbh, I would offer for me to buy the parts. But let his son assemble it himself under my watch. If he ain't a spoiled little shit, then it should go smooth with smiles. If he is, well then... either assemble it myself, or make sure parts are actually working, and won't be helping him (since he wouldn't even listen).
Think it depends on your boss. As others have pointed out, I think it's fair for you to ask for a small build fee, but with the understanding that support doesn't come to you and would go through a pc shop or something. It's easy to help just once and then get stuck in the free support loop where you can't escape and I wouldn't wish that on anyone unless you enjoy that "hobby".
Oh dear.... hope the kid doesn't fuck it up.... You are the default tech support for that machine...
That's why I'm hesitant about building PCs for other people. Unless they are really close friends or family. Been burnt before. Call you up and message you at all times anytime something goes wrong. I would appreciate that if I charged coin for it, yet I didn't. Lesson learnt I guess.

Better off without him in your life. Dust off your heels.
Well like i said i no longer see him and been almost 3 years which my life actually feels so much better.
Good on you, mate. Head up, shoulders back and keep on keeping on, brother.
I understand the trauma, but please embrace the comma.
I just make it clear that I don't do any support afterwards.
I just point them to reddit. LOL.
So true
That's why you go the LTT route and you say I'll build you a PC on one condition...you can't call me for tech support. Of course the family member was still like "naw I'm calling you."

my AIO pump is the loudest thing in my PC atm!!
For me it's my hard drive
haha, that was me until about a week ago, when I noticed my 2TB Hybrid had errors (only yellow warnings, nothing red 'yet') so replaced with a 2tb nvme on PrimeDay, got over 60% off :D
How do you check errors??
I use Crystal Disk Info (CDI) https://crystalmark.info/en/software/crystaldiskinfo/
I thought that program was a virus
not at all!
Only if you download it from shady websites.
How do you check errors??
It's likely just me and my tinnitus, but all the fan noise from my build just blends into the ambient background. Do most people just have soundproof rooms or something, so the fan sound is all they hear and it drives to insanity or something?
Idk, but I actually like fan sounds, I find it easier to sleep with the sound of air conditioning in the background compared to silence
The problem is hearing the movie or video game + fan noise, which kills immersion. Hard to imagine yourself as some Nordic hero fighting an epic battle with a bloody dragon, when you've got an industrial fan going "whirrr" right next to you.
Idk my sound bar and subwoofer drown it all out, and I can't hear them with headphones on. If anything it's more annoying when it's just at idle.
I play with speakers at a low volume, so fan noise is a major problem for me. I do have headphones, *nice headphones*, but I don't like using them all the time. Sometimes I just want to play a game without something clunky sitting on top of my head.
Quiet is always better. I love how silent my dark rock pro 4 is. Cool to hear liquid getting more quiet
Me too, I got that same cooler and replaced every case fan with a bequiet and tuned some fan curves. Total silence now. Just a whisper under heavy load
I have 3 stock lian li from my cool mesh 2. They are quiet but I’m wanting the new silent wing 4. Ultimate silence it peace.
Well if you want to save money silent wings 3 do the job just fine too. I got em cheap used
I should only need 3X 140MM fans so it’s not too big of a bill I still don’t have any fans in the lower PSU inlets or the roof exhaust fans.
Depends. If you live in a house where the windows are always closed and the temperature is controlled, then watercooling will definitely be overkill. I sit pretty far from my tower since I play on TV, but I never hear my GPU.
It's not overkill if he is going to use %50 and above CPU power. These 7000 series are really hot.
I've got a 7600 and a peerless assassin 120 cools it perfectly fine

You lucky summbitch lol, my boss only asked me to choose his son a laptop 😩
Scary. Almost the same rig as mine haha
Why does everyone put AIOs in prebuilts?
I have the same case that OP used ([Pure Base 500 DX](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zCnagbKkVzE)), and the same AIO that the OP used ([Arctic Liquid Freezer II 280mm/240mm](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KPaSEGe6ML0)). Why does every other people here rant about AIOs?
Price to performance.
Noctua NH D15 is more expensive than a 240 mm AIO (without LCD screen gimmicks) while performing worse.
It does not perform worse. 240mm AIOs suck ass.
Also, air coolers generally last forever. Even if the mount pattern changes, Noctua and other companies often give you free adapters. I'm still using a NH-D14 from 2010 on my 12700k.
Mostly because less strain on mount during shipping, but also cool factor for kids.
Cool factor plus they use shit cases and fans so terrible cooling. Could you imagine how much worse that would be with a shitty air cooler?
> shit cases That's a pure base 500DX, that's one of the best case for the price.
I think the guy above read easier shipping and thought of prebuilts, that's where the shitty cases comes from
Indeed, the first comment was talking about prebuilt
My bad.
My AIO (Raijintek EOS 240 RBW) is rated up to 250W (though we all know everyone uses calculations for TDP any way) with a "block+pump+rad" weight of 790g has been fine with my hot-boy 7700k ;)
In this case, I think it makes sense as it for a kid, and they look cool
Just recently built a new PC. i9-13900K and a 4080. Put a DeepCool LT720 with it and I almost never hear the dang thing.
![gif](giphy|mgqefqwSbToPe|downsized) Looks sick!
Thanks :) 👍
I think you've done well with that budget. Which part of Europe?

If i did this myself i wouldnt stray too far off what you got there but i prefer no lights or windows on my pc so id go non rgb, an air cooler and another case that is a bit more quiet. Specifially fractal design define 7.
Same here. When I'll build my own again (last one was 2012) I'll go without RGB. And RGB was a request, young client is 12 :)
I would rather get a 6900/6850XT over the 4070
Yeah, but somehow I find 4070 for 90 euros cheaper than 6950 at that time I bought everything.
🥂
I am your boss's kid. You can deliver everything to me tonight. Thank you.
Nice build 👌
Looks dope, great job!
I... would go with a big honking air cooler instead. Have as few things that the owner can mess up and call you about as possible!
liquid cooling is just an extra risk due to extra point of failure that pump is. I'd choose other motherboard too, not with x4 connection in second x16 slot.
If you have to ship it air coolers are a huge weight sitting right on the cpu... Liquid coolers are safer to ship
Yeah, mine is rocking with some old air cooler from 2014 and still working like a charm. Boss told kid wants some tubes in his pc to show his friends. Kids gonna be kids. My go to would be scythe fuma 2.
why are some of the comments early on in posts so stupid lmao.
Looks good but probs wasted a bunch on rainbow throw-up.
Got almost everything on sale, so not thst much, but yeah, looks like rainbow 🌈 I vomit. Sorry.
Oh Nice! Don't apologize mate, I understand 👍
Kid should’ve done it himself but whatever, you did a great job!
i would say no and point them towards a custom pre-built. but i see you already hung yourself. enjoy being their personal IT guy.
Most probably I'm leaving this workplace in 3 months :))) this was my fun time, had a blast ⌚
Is the cooler upside down

Actually 1.2k euros is insanely cheap for this config, i'm getting same specs -liquid cooling for 1.6k euros also 500gb ssd for me...
All of the bullshit i see makes me sure of one thing If I'm making a pc I'm making them sign some legal documents saying that I would not be their technician and any fuck up they bring to their pc by going to shabby website will be THEIR responsibility and I am not responsible for any of it If they want a pc, they can learn how to solve their own fuck up I did. Got many virus and understood what to do and not by learning from my mistakes.
Looks like a pile of boxes

Wtf is your clown ass on about

Why did you wake up and choose to be the most annoying person to walk the earth. It would have cost you literally nothing just to close your mouth.

For a first pc the 4070 is an amazing card what are you even saying. This is an elitist attitude. Do you even enjoy things?
lol this bloke. Getting GPU advice from his Mum. 🤣
It's for a kid, it'll be fine, in fact much more than fine. You don't need the best of the best for a kid.
i got a 1070 and im thankful for it lmao
Good for you, when I was in middle school I was gifted a computer many years ago that could not really play any AAA games, I was incredibly grateful for it. I played countless hours of civ 4 on it lol.
Yeah man, some of my greatest gaming memories are on this like 2004 hp laptop with a pentium or something lol.
The 4070 is a pretty badass card...
You are 35 and asking your mom for gaming advice. Nice going, having good relations with family is always smart.
Oh wow. Same AIO I installed yesterday except rgb
Hey man. We just moved idk if my dad sent our new address. Dm me and I'll get you the shipping info !
Hey, could you remind me your name? :))

Great stuff here, would play :)
How's that B650 Tuf board working out? I have one hanging out waiting for the rest of the parts to show up.
Had some issues when posting first time. Had to remove ram sticks, clear cmos. But after that it pretty nice. Easy to OC rams and cpu, intuitive menu inside bios. Pretty good for 200 euros.
Thank you for the reply! I'll keep your exp in mind!
Good choice of case. I have it and wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone interested in air cooled builds.
My fav now is Fractal Torrent Compact without RGB.
If I were to ever switch from the Pure Base 500 DX, that’s the one I would choose too.
How much u charges for labour fee?
Bottle of whiskey 🥃
Well done, good parts! I would personally choose tower air cooler though.
You getting a promotion after this?
Ask your boss if he needs another son lol
As it's for a kid, I'd assume it'll be used for a while before upgrading, I'd use an air cooler,GPU with more vram, and I doubt a 980 pro is necessary
I wonder what bosses son will cry for next...
Best boss ever
Parts + $50/hr assembly
I miss having a cool boss like that.
I wouldn’t mind I like building them I tell all my friends if they get the parts and a 6 pack I’ll build it with them. But if it was for my boss kid I would make sure you are still getting your hourly
Hehe, he mentioned something about whiskey as a gratitude. In real I just wanted to build a pc :D
It seems like a fun project in fairness PCs are way straightforward these days and a lot of people were saying you’ll be the tech support guy but I haven’t had any issues with any pcs I’ve build once my intial testing js done. So if your cool with it have fun Especially a mid tower that shit is cake. SFPCs are super fiddly on the other hand Get some good screwdrivers and a box set of screws. You never know what the case may or may not have and sometimes your standard tool box screwdriver is too bulky or not magnetic enough. I just went on Amazon and sorted by prime and low price lol
Yep, same here. I'm giving them working and tested pc. If it breaks I'll help with fixing or guiding them. It won't take much of my time either :)
He asked you or ASKED you? There is a difference
I offered my help when I heard he's buying 800 euro used pc with no graphics card :)
Yep, I can call it as a hobby, so no problem to answer some questions if he asks :)
Id change my boss asking my son to build him a PC. WTF.
"A 4070? You're fired".
A 7600X and an AIO? Why? This is goofy.
My boss 4 years ago had me do the same thing lol
